I've been struggling to get the AOSP Browser to work properly on the new TW update. It installs and launches okay, but force closes upon pressing menu. I've tried side loading it in system/app (with a couple other dependencies) and installing Android Browser from the play store. Has anyone succeeded in doing this?
On the same note, I'm having a similar experience with installing Google Talk. It's a superior piece of software when compared to hangouts so I'd prefer to use the better option, but it too encounters issues upon being side loaded... Mainly, it cannot connect to my account upon opening.
Any information would be great. Thanks in advance!

isn't chrome the new aosp browser? Plus 4.3 has the old aosp browser pre installed (the one that has the globe as the icon).

Nope and not exactly.
Yes, it is known that Google has replaced the AOSP browser with Chrome, but the two are very different in their rendering engines and plugin support. Chrome likes to do a lot of weird things, like size up text randomly. It also doesn't support flash.
The browser that comes with 4.3 TW is closer to the AOSP browser, but has been massively reworked by Samsung. It can only hold open 16 tabs at a time and has caching issues which forces me to close it via task manager before it will start loading pages again.

Thank you for informing me on that! I use to love chrome but now that the aosp/TW edited asop browser syncs my chrome bookmarks I stay away from it.
Since no one seems to have a answer for you if you give me a market link or whatever link I'll see if I have the same problem.
Seems Google is abandoning support for what used to be the ASOP browser and Android 4.4 support for the old browser has lost some functionality because of built-in engine change from Webkit to Chromium.
Here is the market link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.android.browser
Google's been making a number of questionable "improvements" to its app catalog that have resulted in a less user-friendly experience. New maps, Hangouts and Chrome are not as good as their predecessors. Hangouts and Maps specifically are quite laggy and buggy.
If they keep butchering their core apps then I'll probably start looking outside Android... I dunno... Despite these steps backward, Android is probably still the best option.

Chrome Beta for Android is ALWAYS laggy for me and when I stream from Google Play Music it always stutters. Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me? PS if your Chrome to Mobile keeps adding duplicates of your Xoom or phone and you can't find out how to remove the duplicates, they're removable through your Cloud Print Beta devices page. I just found that out. Anyway, does anyone know how to stop all of this Chrome lag and stutters?!?

I think you can remove them in Chrome Beta by long-pressing on the name of the device and then click 'remove'. I notice the option is there, but have'nt actually tried it myself.
Oh you mean where you can see all tabs open on the other devices. I meant Chrome To Mobile, like Chrome To Phone but easier to use and built in to Chrome (well, built into Chromium and Chrome Canary anyway).

sorry i misunderstood. thanks for the tip though.
So as much as I find the latest version of TouchWiz to look great, I still feel like there are two OSes installed together on my phone, like it's always been the case with Samsung devices. So I'm pondering installing LineageOS. From what I gather, it's still in its infancy. So I'm a bit scared of tripping Knox permanently and regretting it.
Also, except if I read the 100+ pages of the thread about it, I can't find an exhaustive list of known issues and problems. But I have read some things that worry me:
Mediocre call quality
Mediocre camera quality
Volume problems on the speaker
Bluetooth issues
No OTA updates
Are those real? I'd like to have feedback from a relative long-time user.
Thanks
With 7.0 Nougat, I find combining Nova Launcher with the new Nougat UI works well and together they feel much more like one OS
It's their TouchWiz Launcher that is out of place, big, clunky, awkward, slapped on the front of a nice tight-knit settings panel and other good looking parts of the UI just doesn't match, but replace TW launcher with Nova and you have a nice fluid OS IMO

That but also the apps and data that come with them. The Samsung calendar that they impose even though you can't use neither the calendar or the tasks on another device (like a computer). But it's there and you have to deal with it (and even in the Google Calendar app, the Samsung calendar is there). Their bloody useless browser. But most of all I miss the slide to left for Google Now. With that I had the impression of using an Google device. Now I feel like it's there somewhere but behind a wall of crap. Yet the device itself is amazing. Honestly if I could afford it I would have gotten a Pixel. I'm not one for skins. But TouchWiz is very good now and light now. I just wish I could get rid of everything Samsung and/or that the Google Now Launcher wasn't going away (or that the Pixel Launcher was available).

You can always use package disabler pro to get rid of calendars and other apps you don't want to use, and install preferred apps from the play store or wherever you can find the APK
Pixel Launcher is available as an APK from apkmirror.com
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/pixel-launcher/
But yea, if you're looking for a stock Android experience, you don't buy Samsung, everyone knows about TouchWiz and Sammy's bloat lol

You lost me at "Their bloody useless browser." It is a very smooth browser with ad block and Samsung pass features.

No doubt about that. My problem with that broswer is the same as the calendar: it can only be used on Samsung mobile devices. If I could have my calendar and tasks on a PC (without having to sync it with SmartSwitch) then I'd use it. I can access my bookmarks on Chrome on mobile whereas that wouldn't be possible with the Samsung browser.
In other words I wouldn't mind using Samsung's apps at all as they are not bad in themselves but they're not as useful Google's apps.

You're right. Google is miles ahead in terms of synchronization.

Indeed! Samsung's still in the first iPod model: plug it in a PC and sync. That's bad in 2017. It's a half-assed ecosystem. I do hope the S8 and Bixby do a better job but I don't think so given even Bixby is just a layer over Google Assitant.

Lol I was literally just about to post that I figured it out when I used package disabler
No 3rd party app needed for me, I just went into app mgr, found the Sammy internet and cleared the default. Then was going to click a link hoping it would prompt me to choose Chrome, but when I went in app mgr to check Chrome settings, it was already default...
Why would you get rid of Samsung Internet?
You can use your fingerprint reader or the Iris Scanner (i think) to log in on websites and so on with it, which is a really nice feature. You can't do that with Google Chrome (correct me if i'm wrong on that).
Big Chrome user here but I honestly prefer the UI and the look of the samsung browser. Would definitely switch over to it if I had all my bookmarks and settings synced as easily as Chrome does.

Few Key differences between chrome and Samsung Browser.
Chrome : can easily sync your bookmarks, history across devices and is very convinient.
Samsung Broswer: History and bookmarks are synced under samsung email ( I really hate this and want to sync eith google) but fingerprint login to websites, ad blockers which works like a charm and video assistant which works grest on many anime sites is a big plus for me.
I use chrome on my work and personal laptops but samsung broswer on mobile.

Thanks for the post Sammy Internet is crazy and glad it's gone, use package disabled. Look at this insanity using sammys 'smooth' brower, never had a ad in years, all rooted up and then this thing pops up using sammysnet!
App I used was called
'Service disabler' and it was free, disabled 48 foul things associated in Sammy net
Has anyone noticed that when actually using the Google app, it is horrendously slow and laggy? Scrolling is especially bad if you look up an actor or musician...It's really the only app I have noticed this with, and unfortunately its one of the most important.
I've tried this with stock, BitOBSessiOn's kernels, ect, and haven't seen a difference. I'm ready to ask Nvidia what the deal is...
Is this just me, or is anyone else running into this? I might try a screen capture later
Google app/search bar? Hell no!!
This is the first thing I deactivate on all my devices.
Google app is essentially a spy app. Everything you do is monitored.. thus it slows down the performance of your device.
If you need to search use Chrome, another browser or a file explorer like normal people.

Thanks for the input. Putting the whole spyware / free services / ect argument aside, I like using Google's services, they can spy on me if they want, they'll be bored - I just want it to work correctly.
"work correctly". How? when the app is monitoring and slowing down everything else?
So i just got my 10+ 2 days ago and immediately rooted it with magisk. For the past 2 days i have been working on customizing, debloating, and degooglefying it. So far i have removed almost all google apps as well as some samsung bloatware. I have also removed bixby and remapped the bixby button for other tasks...
However i have run into a peculiar issue; if i remove chrome none of my firefox browsers will work, with the exception of orfox... this includes firefox focus, firefox klar and icecat. Those browsers will open no problem but if i type anything into the URL bar and hit go/enter the browsers immediately close/crash. If i reinstall chrome, firefox browsers work without issues. If i force stop and disable chrome, firefox browsers work with no issues. I just cant uninstall chrome.
Im using debloat in magisk modules and im sure the browsers share some dependencies, however i have tried reinstalling firefox browsers after removing chrome and same problem.
Anyone else have this issue or does everyone else use chrome?
I am unrooted with chrome disabled, Firefox beta runs fine. Have you removed android webview too? Try the fenix preview it uses the new rendering engine?
Unrelated question, I used to use note 1 back in the day it had no knox so rooting was simple. Went the nexus/pixel way after that, and rooting on it was basically just pressing a button. Just moved from a pixel 1 to this s10+.
My usage of the root on the pixel had dropped to titanium backup and kernel for boosting it's low performance, could you please explain your use for root on s10? Also, if you want to use your warranty will you be able to?
Yea i currently have chrome disabled and firefox works fine, i just cant uninstall chrome without issues.
To answer your unrelated question, i am a long time linux user and am used to being free to change anything I want with nothing off limits. For the s10 i want to be able to tweak all the settings to my desires and only run the software that i use. I dont want bloatware that i dont use either running in the background or just taking up space.
And as far as i know, the method of root for the s10 line using magisk can be unrooted and bootloader can be relocked but that requires wiping everything and flashing stock firmware which should allow you to use your warranty. I dont actually have a warranty as i bought the international unlocked version and samsung factory warranty doesnt cover accidental physical damage which is the only thing i would ever use a warranty for.

It's because there is no alternative webview provider, or Android System Webview is broken. Check developer settings. I have to keep chrome installed for its webview provider and for some reason the built in Android System Webview is broken, even if I update it.

Thank you!!!
This solved my problem
So after I disabled chrome I verified webview provider switched to the android version and that firefox was working properly. I then uninstalled chrome, rebooted and same problem. After a little more research i found out that as long as the chrome webview providor was present and used, the android version will not update by itself. I manually went to the play store and updated it which is all it needed. Chrome is uninstalled completely, android webview is in use, and firefox is working properly.
I will report back if i discover any adverse side effects of running the android version rather than chrome.
