My sister has some problems with her Xperia L. Always if she wants to open Google Now it fc. Same with Google chrome. There was a softwareupdate on the 16th january and she wanted to update with PC companion but it failed. Now she tried it again but problem persists. We tried clear cache and data, of course restarting but nothing worked. Firefox is working fine but chrome and Google now she likes better. Any idea?
Bootloader is locked and phone is not rooted.
Try flashing via Flashtool. Your data will be lost.

When flashing the newest .ftf I won't lose the data. I know one could repair with FlashTool. Then one would lose all data. But is there maybe a possibility without loss or data, that was the reason for asking here.
u can try flashing with flashtool........just uncheck wipe data options during flashing with flashtool....hope this helps...
Ok thank you I will tell her.

Is this safe?
With your post do you mean flashing the newest firmware or repair with FlashTool? (Actually I meant repair with PC Companion, because her phone's bootloader is locked.) flashing the .ftf file of a firmware (if the specific device) itself is safe. I always did that if I had problems with my Xperia SP. And repairing deletes everything so both methods are if your phone doesn't function right and they can help for example if a phone is soft bricked

Hello,
I own a Tipo, which has 11.0.A.0.16 ROM in it. Recently, it started to offer 11.0.A.4.22, which has to be installed via PC Companion.
My questions are:
Do I lose data, applications, settings if I upgrade the ROM via PC Companion?
If Yes, is it possible to backup the data, aplications, settings, upgrade the ROM, then restore everything?
If Yes, how?
I do not want to root my phone, I am happy with it unrooted.
Thank you in advance.

1. it has been answered already that the guy in question did not lose his data.
2. you're wrong here, if you UPGRADE via pc companion, you do not lose anything
if you use the 'repair my phone' service, you WILL lose stuff.

sorryyyyyy
I have an Xperia L phone which I rooted a few months back. I haven't unlocked the bootloader AFAIR. Just rooted it.
Now I have been getting weird memory space issues. I already tried the album galleries fix, the SD-Maid, rooted and deleted junk files but it still doesn't let me install apps. So I'm planning to do a factory reset.
1) Does anyone know what exactly happens in a factory reset in XPeria L? Does it have a built-in image that gets restored? Or does it only wipe the data and cache completely?
2) Any idea whether root will still be maintained or not?
3) Is there anything that I should watch out for?

As far as I know, it wipes your data completely. And doesn't restore any factory image. And therefore you shouldn't lose root.
However, I can't guarantee it. There's nothing you should watch for and you can always root your device.
Hit thanks ยก*

after factory reset everything will be reset to factory image..
you will loose root access for sure.
SU binary and the Superuser apk are installed on the system partition and thus not touchable by the factory reset.

Which means that...the root access should still be there?
So my Z3...
I had it since start of the year it was AWESOME, but not enough.
I rooted it. First got Cyanogen, after battery drain went to eXistenz Y Rom, awesome. SOmehow model changed from D6653 to D6603 ( I'm aware of differences), data still working, Lte, all fine.
Then I flashed a GOogle Play Rom for Z3, it worked beautifully with the normal GPE stuff. But data didnt work. Then suddenly after a day it did!
Okay I was envious of M launcher, installed APK, force close... OK. I'll just flash again (Didnt make backup of that particular rom)
Data didnt work again... Then try change rom to eXistenZ Y, still not working, it isn't even detecting the sim card now, and is overheating even when idle...
Flashtool had some problems (Device needs drivers, blablabla when my PC Companion works perfectly with drivers all installed)
I think I'll go to Sony and act dumb? (I still hv warranty)
For flashtool you need to install drivers seperately. Just read a tutorial.

maybe it's good if you use the 0.9.18.6 version of flashtool (if you did an an upgrade to a newer one already) (the new flashtool caused problems at me)
and flash a KK stock, tick wipe: appslog, cache, data.
boot it up, then switch to lp stock, tick wipe: appslog, cache, data, boot it up, then go back to anything.
i would be curious if this works.
good luck *fingers crossed*

Yea says the same thing... device drivers not installed, can be found in drivers folder (There was no 'drivers' folder)
Just wiping internal storage... Not working as well
EDIT: I used stock cable and is working BUT flashtool just says connected in flashmode... ready to flash ... and doesnt flash. Then my device boots somehow
EDIT: I realized I didnt wait for it to ask me to connect device and had no patience. Oopsie! Thanks for the help. XDA FOR THE WIN (wat does xda stand for?)
Hey,
Before update everything works smoothly. Now after update menu is freezing, applications freezing, Pokemon Go now is unplayable.
In game am getting "GPS Signal not found" all the time. GPS jumping all around. Hate this update...
I did factory reset, format and wipe data, wipe cache... Everything.
Always few hours after wipe everything starts freezing again. On Lolipop GPS worked perfectly...
Have you got some idea how to fix it ? Should i send for warranty?
If you are *not *using your sdcard as internal (adopted) storage, try removing it and check. Is your internal memory close to full? That can be the cause to lag too. Else, check if your RAM or CPU is being full using CPU-Z like app.
If all these don't work, maybe factory reset again with internal storage wipe and then installing apps one by one to see which one could be causing this.

I dont have SD card. Im Using only internal memory.
Try clearing the cache partition (warning, it can take WAY longer than you expect, be patient and let it finish), but if that doesn't work a factory reset is probably in order.
@acejavelin I really appreciate your help, but i did everything you said. It didnt help.
Then you can try a firmware flash but there is a risk in the procedure.

Since your bootloader is locked, you must use the same or newer firmware version, as long as you don't unlock your bootloader you will not lose warranty.
TBH, if you did a full factory reset (erased all your data, had to setup like new device) and you still have issues, you may want to just contact Moto and send it in for repair.

Follow Lost101's fastboot factory firmware flashing guide. It's in the general section.

Hi. I have a Oneplus one bought few years ago, never updated. Since few days I can't run "system settings" app : when I click on the wheel or on "system settings" nothing happens!!!!!!! So I can't pair a new bluetooth or wifi device .......:crying:
Any "easy" solution?
Thank you.
unlock your bootloader maybe, flash twrp and flash new rom, it might be rom issue, maybe
Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
Thank you, but is there not a easy way like downloading an system settings app?
Can't you just factory reset? It will reinstall system apps hence fix the issue.
Thank you.
When I read things about OPO factory reset, I can't understand what it erases exactly. I'd like to keep my apps and personnal datas.
Do you somethings about that?

Well, you could "dirty flash" from fastboot by flashing everything but userdata.img it will keep all your data and fresh install the OS. But only if you are running stock COS.
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/mirrors-for-official-cyanogen-roms-ota-updates.141825/
Ok. But how can I know if I'm running stock COS (I can't access system settings)?
What I know is that I've bought the phone 3 years ago and done nothing on it (no flash ......) so I think I run an official three years old OPO OS.
So is it a stock COS? (stock OS?)
Thank you for your help.

Ah, so you have the bootloader still locked, which means that to unlock it you would have to factory reset.
You should really backup your stuff and factory reset your phone. I do it once a month or even less.
One more thing I can suggest you is to delete cache, either system app cache or the whole system from the recovery.
Boot to recovery and wipe cache.
Hope it works, if it doesn't I really advise you to factory reset.
COS = CyanogenOS
