[Q] Apps for S4 - General Questions and Answers

Hello All,
I am new to forum. Also new to smart phone world. Earlier I used Iphone 4S. I have two questions as for now:-
1.) Weather application in Iphone was wonderfull but in S4 is useless. Can I uninstall this one which come along with S4 and if that application (Iphone ) is available for android/S4
2.) Is there any good camera application in which date and time get prints on pictures shot ( as in point and shoot camera or SLRs)
3.) Can I install application directly to SD Card so that phone memory remains free.
4.) And Lastly do I really need a antivirus to install on my phone, if yes than which do you suggest.
Thanks All

Answer
1) Yes- if your phone is rooted: you can use any app manager application from the GMarket to do so. If your phone is
is not rooted, you can only turn it off: settings->More->Application Manager->All->find the accuwether app, demon and widget->turn off
(i personally use "eye in the sky"- no complaints
2) Perhaps UCam ot APD TimeStam... i think that 4.3 camera app already has this as feature, but dont count on it
3) I dont know if you can install it directly, but u can move some of then (or all with rooted phone) after install in
'Application Manager' (showed in part 1) -> move to SD card
4) Android is pretty secured OS, so I would not recommend it (studies show that most antivirus apps are not very effective either)
but if you are planning to install external apps (not from Google Play store) and want to be 100% sure, i would recommend
AVG antivirus (lighter) or Avast (heavier, but considered more secured)

wow. android isn't built to run like windows mobile. if you want another wm device, i recommend returning it and getting a one.
it is an android feature to close background processes when a foreground process requires more memory. that way the phone can't get sluggish like wm. it will save the program state and re-launch it into that state when needed.
Download astro file manager or root file manager (c'mon, just use the search function in the market) Astro could also help with bluetooth file transfers, but i've never used it for that.
there are a lot of topics on saving battery life in android, use the search function.
apps install to the phone, but will be movable to the sdcard in 2.2. Or you can use a rom with a2sd and that will allow for sd card app installs. if your device has a decent amount of memory, this shouldnt be an issue anyway.

Installing stuff NOT on Android Market

Hello
I am planning on installing some software which is NOT yet on the Android Market.
Its a map viewing software from Memory Maps co uk. Sadly I can't place a link yet as I'm new to the site.
I've been using this software for years on my PC and now that I have a Samsung Ace, I want to run it on my Smart Phone.
Befre I get stuck in, could somebody please tell me the potential pitfalls of installing apps that are not on the Android Market?
Could somebody also please tell me how I cam back-up my entire phone, operating system included just in case I end up with an expensive paper weight?
I'm hoping to create a clone/mirror image on the entire phone in much the same way that I have for my PC when I use Acronis.
I would very much appreciate any help or advice.
Cheers

Pitfalls of installing 3rd party apps:
-potential virus infection
-data loss
-your data/privacy could be compromised
But, that said, if you're careful about what you install...you won't have problems. Basically, the market checks and scans (or is supposed to, but it sometimes fails) for viruses and malware.
If you have root access, you can use ClockWorkMod, Titanium Backup or myBackupPro to back up your phone. But you must have root access to do this. I'm not going to go into HOW you get root or install these, because I don't have your device. There should be loads of tutorials on this, just hit up google. With CWM you can create an image which will capture everything from settings to apps to data. TiBu will let you back up all of your apps and data, as will myBackupPro. CWM > TiBu > mBP, in my opinion, this is their rank in functionality.
Good luck.

1. Up to you. I've never installed an anti virus program on my phone because they run in the background eating battery and processing power.
2. I don't think it's really an equivalent but google drive alows you to sync folders on your pc with your android phone.
3. By rooting your phone it gives you full control allowing you to get rid of bloatware(pre installed software like soundhound, amazon mp3 etc.)
install custom roms that fit your preference and much more really. So many advantages you should youtube the benefits of rooting.
4.If you root your phone titanium backup is a must. It backs up your apps so when you install new roms you can just press a button and everything gets restored instead of you spending hours downloading and installing apps.

you can also use my backup root from the market to backup and restore apps after install new roms
No to antivirus
Many options, drop box, Google drive , etc with Android tot are not limited to Google only products add you are with Apple
You can use titanium backup for applications backup and restore, custom recovery for full device backups, a must if you plan to try the many custom ROM options
Would suggest that you follow the index link in my signature and read the many guides in the initial guide section first
Sywepd form my DsereiS
AVG or Sophos are good but to be quite honest i don't use either anymore. If you feel safer using one then i'd say one of those two would do.
avast is also good. it also adds firewall and stolen phone finder.
I installed avast just for the anti theft, then removed the anti virus
Sent from my HTC Desire S using Xparent ICS Blue Tapatalk 2
I've been using Lookout as AV ever since I got my phone. It has negligible impact on battery life.
I have a friend at work, who is a security expert and he got a virus on his Android phone. NOW he uses an AV product.
The apps I can't live without are Titanium Backup, 4EXT Recovery, and ES File Explorer.

[Q] Root Apps on play have bogus install icons- Malwear?!

Hello all at XDA!
This is a wonderful site so top marks to those who make the magick happen!
Ok, in short; Got my first computer Sanei N10 CPU - sideloaded a bad Flashplayer (after rooting successfully) and it got root access and/or I gave other malware access using fake icons at Playstore.
Since opening the box I have spent seventy hours this week already trying to learn about everything I can.
Now I am left with the tablet as so -
After factory reset device is still rooted and 'seems' to be working fine
shows 29.44gb of space on a 32gb micro sd card after wipe,
shows 92MB uesd in downloaded apps but shows no icons,
cant access safe mode, display is the same as normal plus fake safe mode icon,
and when i visit Google play root apps like Superuser display a fake overlay 'Install' button icon so I cant download the real Superuser and install more malware instead.
Flashplayer installs itself as soon as browser is opened.
The system runs very smoothly over the top of this hack since a shutdown of all apps forcing me to factory reset and would have run unnoticed if it were not for apps never asking root permissions when i downloaded root apps since.
Its an obscure model and cant seem to find it here on XDA ---------- SANEI N10 CPU 1gig 16gig and (Duel Core I think)
Has anyone heard of this shenanigans with Playstore Icons?
Can anyone point me to the right thread please as I am willing to learn much more form XDA and need a secure computer I can control and understand.
A great learning curve that has opened up a whole new world.

How to uninstalling system app?Uninstalling an app that you have installed on your Android device from Google Play is simple — but what if you didn’t install it? What if the app you’re trying to remove is one of thosethat came pre-installed on your device, provided by the manufacturer, your mobile network, or as a part of Android itself?Removing unwanted system apps fromAndroid can be tricky, but it is not impossible. Why You Might Want To Remove These AppsBefore you start deleting apps, however, you should spend a few moments considering just why you want to get them off your phone.
For instance, it might be that they are cluttering up your home screen. If this is the case, then long tapping and dragging to theRemovebox at the top of the screen should get them out of the way.On the other hand, these apps might be considered “bloatware” and take up valuable resources. Pre-installed games might take up space on your phone’s storage, while Internet-connected apps could be eating into your monthly allowance. Such apps might even berecording and/or uploading informationthat you would prefer they didn’t.And then there’s the impact on your battery life.Unfortunately, removing these apps isn’t as easy as it could be. It really depends upon whether your Android device is rooted or not.
