Hi all,
I installed Network Monitor last night and let it run for a few hours. The phone sat in the same spot, plugged in and as you can see on the attached spreadsheet, lost network connectivity for 1-2 minutes periodically. I'm on T-Mobile and will try again tonight, but with LTE disabled to see if the results are any different.
Does anyone know what could be causing this, and how to prevent it?

Yes. I've tried .15 and .17.
Umm from the looks of it T-Mobile has crappy signal in your area:
Most of the night you were on -110dBms which is as low as low gets (-117 being dead ) You did start off at -91 which makes me think they must have been working on a tower and turned one off so you were on a further one.
Actually you can see it right there:
You were on 15537153 at first then you got switched to 15787267 which is where your signal started sucking. You can see that when you scroll all the way over to the right under the GSM Full ID column.

So then there's probably nothing I can do?
If it was just maintainance work then no, since they were doing all this at 1am i assume it is as such.
See how it goes tonight then post back but it might have just been a 1 time thing if it's all fine today.

Hey guys, I'm new to the Inspire sub-forum.
I was handed down this phone by a friend of mine, (phone only. no box) and it is a bit banged up. Enough so the wifi hardware is failing. (I'm assuming so because it doesn't work.) My question is, how do I go about repairing it? Should I take it to an AT&T store? Also, I have not yet rooted it.
Thanks in advance!
Try to reflash the stock ROM. Look for RUU in the inspire 4g forums.
Or, you can call HTC and see what they say. They might be able to do a warranty swap. Not sure if it'll work since you are not the original owner. Worth a shot though.

Thanks Kirk! Although flashing the stock ROM didn't fix it I appreciate your help. I will try calling HTC and hope for the best.
Is the battery cover damaged or broken in anyway? WiFi connector is bridged or built in to the battery cover as an external antenna I think ..
Whenever I removed the cover I get no WiFi..and you can see some gold colored contacts

There is some damage there actually. My volume rocker won't toggle down only up, but I can't really see any physical damage. Any ideas for a fix or am I SOL? D:
I'll post pics in a sec, camera is charging.

It will not let me. A box pops up and says "Unable to scan for networks"
By the way I really appreciate you guys helping me out!
Edit: I should mention WiFi automatically turns itself off after it says "Unable to scan for networks"
Try bridging those connectors with a piece of coppee or a paper clip. See if it changes.

Then that might be serious internal problem that might require taking the phone apart to see whats broken.
Also, HTC will not honor the warranty cause of the fact that theres physical damage.

Considering the phone will not have warranty, I probably will take it apart later and find out what's going on.
Also, it's time to root and flash a ROM.

Thank you, now I just need the tools!
Also, I managed to connect to my router some how.. perhaps that smack I gave the phone did the trick
There is still an issue though. I just ran speed test and am getting low speeds so I'm not 100% sure it's using my WiFi connection. I'm not familiar with sense at all so can you tell me if data connection in the notification bar disappears when WiFi is connected?

The wifi indicator on the Inspire looks very similar to the iphone wifi indicator.

Easy enough, turn on airplane mode then turn wifi on. Let it connect and then try to browse the internet. That will 100% tell you if the phone is using wifi and not the cell signal.

Ah ha! I see now. And surprisingly my WiFi is now working 100% right now and I am very happy! Thank you guys again for the help! Now I'm just paranoid about every little bump that might disable my WiFi somehow
This could just be extra precaution/I'm not sure if HTC would help you out, but you could ask for another battery cover. I hear on these forums that you can get replacements pretty easily...
hey guys, i suffered a lot from disconnects with my wifi when holding the phone in landscape mode
well i tried a app which helped my desire hd a lot, and now .. well i can hold my desire s in landscape without loosing connection
*removed cause its not working*
would be nice if people from u suffering from the same problem can try it and confirm if it is working or not
greetings
Looks good for those without root/S-OFF.... So do you know how does it actually work? Can it change the signal strength threshold somehow?
Tried it. I don't think it does anything to mine. Signal still drops. But not sure if does anything to the threshold.
What does it really do actually?
Doesn't work.
I think it just resets the wifi. ._.
well i don't know what exactly it does, thats why i putted unconfirmed in the thread title, it helped me with my desire s and 2 friends with a desire hd

simply thought maybe its helping some others here too
seems to work on my desire s =) but can't test it 100% now beacuse i can't play any online games, im in school and they have blocked all port
also kaspersky say that my phone was block. liked i changed to a new sim card. don't know why. made the program change something on my simcard? hmm
like i said i don't know what exactly the phone is doing, it's talking something about reseting wlan and deleting all data and such
i only wrote her that it worked for me
maybe someone don't have such a extreme death spot and got a faulty wireless duo bad flash so this is helping only for some

try covering the entire top plastic part (the part with the camera with your hand & see if the wifi drops using some app like wifi analyzer)
Well like a fool as my Wifi wasn't that bad.
The result being that I now have no Wifi connection at all.

u must add your wifi + passwords again after using this app, it's mentioned in the app so read first
yes it asked me to configure my wifi again & i did it
but the signal still dropped like before
dont see the bars they are quite misleading ( i am usually able to browse with no bars)
use some app like wifi analyzer
well for wifi analyzer it's already too late cause i can't make a before/after compare now
I tested it with WiFi analyzer before and after, there was still the -20db drop and nothing changed
well then maybe i had some software bugged wlan too and the programm was able to, so it will stay a myth that it's a help for the desire s signal dropping
well thank you guys for confirming it

That is what I did and it made no difference, I had to do a factory reset to get Wifi back. Perhaps I was just unlucky.

worked really good on my desire s. never get drop wifi. =)
Well I've just installed Purity Rom on my Nexus 5.
I notice that my signal is on about 2 stripes, which is really wierd! on my old SGS 2 it used
to be 5 all the time.
Also, my wifi signal is pretty low from the same room where the router is! something is really wierd.
My wifi downloads at about 25kb/s from the play store, which is wierd because it should get to about 2mb/s.
Should I switch Kernel/Modem? if so to which one/s?
thanks alot!
Try restarting the modem/router, and make sure it has the latest firmware.

Tried a couple of times and it has nothing to do with it. Downloading from my laptop reaches 2mb/s easily.
And its also the 3G signal that has problems, really not sure why.

I know it's counterintuitive, but the router apparently interacts differently depending on the device.
I only mentioned the router firmware upgrade because that's what fixed it for me.

That's what the upgrade fixed. Of course, yours could be weak for any number of reasons. Is it the same for other phones?

I mean the cellular signal, for calling and 3G network... And as I said, on my previous SGS2 the signal is always full and also wifi.
Something is wrong with my Modem/Kernel or something like that.

Try using the .17 radio instead of the .23. You have to be rooted to downgrade or flash the 4.4 factory image to test it.
Otherwise bars means nothing as long as you aren't dropping calls. Different phones display them differently. Look at About Phone - Status and see the actual dBms and see if they are similar. Some phones do -89 as 4 bars while some require -79 and higher to be 4 bars.

I'm not sure, but I really don't want to use 4.4...
Why is my WiFi signal weak aswell? it just works bad/not working at all at a medium range from the router...

I said 4.4 to test it. Testing is the only way you'll narrow down the variables. We can't always do all the work for you
Once you are on 4.4 then you can see how it works then and if not then jump back to 4.4.2 and then you test something else.
And I said about "bars" being meaningless for the most part as long as you aren't dropping connections. You said it works bad at medium range or not working at all? Meaning you can't connect and what's medium range? Medium might be 50ft or 200ft. I dunno how big your place is or what's your walls are made of.
My WiFi seems to cut off for a few seconds and then turns back on. It does this throughout the day, every day. My router and internet are fine, I just checked.
So does anyone have a suggestion? I'm not sure what to do here. My settings all appear correct..

Yep that will do it.
Been enjoying the pixel 7 pro so far. Sadly one repeated issue I'm having is the phone just completely dropping service randomly from time to time? I'll go from full 4G to no network at all in the space of a few seconds. Apparently this is a known issue on some devices. Does anyone know of some type or fix or am I looking at returning the phone?
I've seen it happen a few times but it's been so rare that honestly it is not affected my usage of the phone

I guess the only way to resolve this is for you to get a physical sim and test it out.
Not having this issue on pSIM or eSIM. Signal is rock solid on mine (and actually got a bit more solid on the beta but was already great out of the box after the first OTA).
