[Q] difrrence between android 4.4.2 rom and cyanogenmod 4.4.2? - General Questions and Answers

HI whats the diffrence between cyanogen mod android 4.4.2 and the android 4.4.2 rom? i am new btw to the root side.
Is it the same of diffrent?

Android 4.4.2 is the version released from AOSP, a Google supported open source group. Other organizations start with the source code from AOSP and deliver their own way. Cyanogenmod is just one of those organizations. Search XDA and learn about the differences.

And usually CyanogenMod has more stability, tweaks and best performance. It's also more customizable and I think it's better than stock ROM.
EDIT: And it's also pre-rooted.

Cyanogenmod is also android, there are lots of things that you have to learn
First Android is a open source and is owned by Google and the sources are released in source.android.com
It is called AOSP and all oems use this AOSP source to build roms and provide for their devices and they also add their own interface for example : Samsung - touch wiz, Sony - xperia ui, HTC - senseui
Cyanogenmod is a company (recently incorporated) which heavily mods the AOSP source and release it as cm source. difference between AOSP and cm is more stable than AOSP and is more customisable Google a bit to know about features of cm
There are official cm which are built by cm itself also unofficial cm which are built by developers from the open source of cm
When you ask about speed cm is more stable and has no lags, so it is good than AOSP

CM11 (android 4.4.2) is custom-made rom unauthorized individuals or organizations, but still a nice feature and easily modified than the stock rom. however there may be some bugs. (I use the CM11 Android 4.4.2). stock rom is the official rom. more features but not easy to modify.

you wont find one. AOSP and VZW software are independent of each other.
do some research for yourself. visit the original development section for AOSP options, and developement for TWouchwiz options.
check out Jellybeans, its got AOPS theming with TW functionality.

The AOSP developers are no longer developing 4.1.1 based ROMs they are making ROMs based on the 4.2.1 source code. If you want AOSP ROMs go to the original android development section. If you want ROMs based on the official ota then go to the android development section. Just so you know AOSP ROMs are never based on official ota updates but on source codes released prior to any ota by any carrier which is why they are the first to develop the latest version of Android. I can't give an opinion on the AOSP ROMs as they are all in beta and will have problems. In the meantime check out the ROMs in the android development section while the AOSP developers work out the kinks to their ROMs.

This is true. I'm looking for AOSP or AOKP based on the 4.2.1 source code. Not a fan at all of TW... I like having that Vanilla Android feel.

check out Pure google in the original development section.
here you go

If you like that vanilla feel then why are you asking for AOSP ROMs? With the exception of the Pure Google ROM, AOSP ROMs are not vanilla looking.

Rbarnett, I know what you mean by vanilla. I tried all the asop roms and I gotta say I liked liquid smooth the best. Rc9, built on 4.1 and still available, has a lot of nice features that the newer and less developed beta3 (4.2) does not. All the 4.2 ROMs have busted Bluetooth right now but besides for that they seem to run pretty good. If you don't mind some minor bugs, they are all pretty good to play around with.

Basically a ROM that looks as if Nova launcher or Apex launcher is running... but has samsungs touchwiz removed. Also all the menus are basic ICS and not touchwiz menus. I'm glad you get what I'm saying.
I'll check out Liquid smooth RC9 then since I need working Bluetooth.
Thanks for the recommendation.

What is*AOKP?
AOKP stands for Android Open Kang Project. It is a custom ROM distribution for several high-end Android devices. The name is a play on the word kang and AOSP (Android Open Source Project). The name was sort of a joke, but it just stuck, just like our infatuation with unicorns.
We fork the source code of Android that Google puts out in the open with every major version release, and we then add the magical unicorn bytes (read: we add some of the coolest features that are both useful and make your ROM awesome).
With AOKP, you can generally do a lot more with your device than what you could do with the original firmware that came installed on it.
Why AOKP?
We were waiting for when you’d ask this.
There are a variety of reasons why a hilly billy Android user, on a bright sunny day, would suddenly start using AOKP and loving it.
For one, AOKP is lightweight. Most OEMs provide a heavy UI layer over Android and have loads of bloatware (i.e. apps that not everyone use every day, but you cannot remove because they’re “baked in” by default). Since AOKP is built upon vanilla Android source, it has neither of the above.
Also AOKP has features that you will not find on your stock firmware. You can have a multitude of toggles to quickly flip a lot of your phone’s settings right at your fingertips, or you can launch apps quickly from any screen using our Ribbons.
You can change almost each and every aspect of the OS, from its looks to the way it functions, with total freedom. And did we tell you, AOKP helps you make tacos?
AOKP Release*Versioning
We have two different kinds of builds/releases - Nightlies, and Milestones.
Nightlies: Automatic builds, every 3 days, of the latest code committed (may contain nuts bugs).
Milestones: Most stable builds, usually released once a month.

Slim for Galaxy Y GT-S5360

Hello, is there any chance we can have a Slim custom ROM for Galaxy Y GT-S5360? Recently, Broadcom released drivers for stable ICS. Since then, bieltv.3 has been working with SpaceCaker and the rest of the BroadcomCM team on making CyanogenMod 9 stable for this device.
I hope Slim developers can do something. Is there any possibility of getting SlimBean?
You can learn more at: bieltv3.blogspot.com
Thank you Slim Team.

wow!! Slim members are Egyptians I saw that on their website
It doesn't matter where they are from. What matters is that they do an amazing work and they are very succesful developers. I was hoping they could build a SlimKat ROM for totoro. It's been a few days since androidarmv6 team released an unofficial CyanogenMod 11 build, wouldn't it be great if we could also have a SlimKat ROM?
This is not a demand. This is a request.
Greetings to Egypt.

ya ya.....we already have cm11 mostly stable.slimkat can rock it.even we mikgth get our bugs solved
That would be great.
Hey everyone ... the Y(oung) is a really old device, with very poor performance. You wouldn't get any slimRom (Android 2.+) cause the single core cpu <1 GHz. There must be a dev with VERY much free time, to develop any port for this device. Long sentense short, that device is not popular enougth (and it never was) to get any other Custom ROM than CM or any otjer single dev MOD/Port.
Sorry an greets

Miui to s6 with touchwiz

Hello guys is it possible to devs porting miui rom with touchwiz i think you guys understand.

What? Miui is based on cyanogen mod. So there is no cm with touchwiz. First let the devs create a functional cm build. This might take a while.

What?! AFAIK Official MIUIs are based on stock firmwares, CM based MIUIs come only when the stock firmware is an outdated version of Android.

No always been based on cm. Please
Correct me someone if I'm wrong but you can't base on the stock firmware since there is no source. And cm has.

The kernel. The HALs which are needed for a build of Vanilla remain a closed mystery.

The kernel source has to be released because of the GPL but everything else is closed source. That's why it is so hard to built cm for exynos chips.

Just curious as to why it was easier to build for the snapdragon of that source should ve closed as well.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920AZ
I'm not sure what of the source is published but the fact that the exynos is proprietary of samsung and the snapdragon open source makes it way easier to built for a device with a snapdragon than for a device with a exynos.
