Hi all!
I set up a Cyanogenmod Account and tried to locate my device.
However I don't get past the message:
Code:
Please wait while we attempt to locate your device.
After a while a second message pops up:
Code:
We are still attempting to establish a secure connection to your device. Your device may not have an active Internet connection, or may be powered off. You can continue to wait, or refresh the page to retry.
My device is switched on and registered with the network. Data, Wi-Fi and GPS are enabled.
I run CM-11-20140104-SNAPSHOT-M2-xt897 without GApps and Open Recovery 2.09. I tried various previous versions of CM, but with the same problem.
Any advice how to get device location running?
Why are you running without gapps?
Not sure if that is required or not for this to work. I've honestly never tried, I usually use Lookout / Plan B

I prefer a Google-free system and don't want to bloat my phone with apps that I don't need... well at least I thought I wouldn't need them.
Does anybody know if they are required for this to work?
Probably it wants to use the Google location service, which is (because of gapps) not installed.
I installed gapps and deleted all not used gapps... well, youtube doesn't work anymore, I have to look into it later

Nope, I flashed GApps and nothing changed
Just a guess, do you have a firewall installed? (AFWall+ or anything like that on the phone.)

No, I haven't.
Would be nice to know if it's working for anybody at all?!
I would've tested but I don't use it and I don't want to create an account.
I have exactly the same issue with the latest nightly on honami.
I also have no gapps installed.
But I remember, as I had gapps, I had the same behaviour.

How do I get Google Maps back on my phone? It's my main issue.
After flashing the ROM I immediately flashed the GAPP package. Did something go wrong that prevents me from having Google Maps as well the the Navigator program?
I am ready to try to flash the GAPP package again from Clockwork Mod Recovery.
Can I just use the "Install ROM from SD Card" option in ROM manager to install the GAPP.zip file?
If not I assume I should just boot into recovery and run the GAPP.zip file?
When I installed the ROM I was only able to do so after disabling the signature check as I kept on getting an "e-signature failed" and abortion of the install. Was I correct in moving the check?
Thank you in advance.
..
I have wiped totally clean before the installs and it just seems like Google Maps isn't in the GAPP.zip pack. Everything else is there. Are you suggesting that signature verification would prevent one program like Google Maps from being installed?
I used CWM to install the pack again and same results. Everything there except what I assume are more proprietary apps...Google Maps and the Navigation. I don't know what others Google considers proprietary.
..
Just install it from the market

I downloaded the .zip file you used and still can't seem to find google maps in the .apk files...very strange. As I could have sworn I saw it there earlier.
Does anyone know what is happening or how I can get google maps in working order?! It almost prevented me from scoring a phone number from a good looking spanish woman tonight.
Install it from the market. All the gapps that you can download from the market are not in the zips. Earth, voice, videos, music etc.
If for reason its not in the market on your device use the web version or market enabler.

Which alpha build are you using? Maps should definitely be available in the Market.
..
If someone could direct me to a working APK that would be great.
You have to understand that I am in China, so market-wise google maps isn't available, neither is skype, neither are alot of the VPN programs etc. Or at least I assume its because I'm in China....also browser wise its pretty damn hard to track things down that aren't blocked. Haven't got around to installing a VPN but it would kick ass to get help to get a free vpn up and running too.
Nonetheless I have definitely installed the GAPP.zip file correctly after a good wipe of everything. I am pretty certain it should work since maps.google.com through the browser seems to locate me and load the map ok.

I've been seeing quite a few posts on reddit about problems encountered when updating to CM13, and although I haven't used XDA in a while, thought maybe you guys could use some help
When updating, make sure you have Marshmallow Gapps. If you accidentally update and you don't have the gapps downloaded, you can always ADB it through the recovery (which is what I did).
You will almost inevitably have Google Play Services crash on you. A lot. So go to settings, apps, find GPS (make sure to have show system apps enabled) and make sure all permissions are checked for GPS. This fix works on other constantly crashing apps too.
If this doesn't work, or if all the permissions are already enabled, the next step is just to clear data within the app.
These two steps fix alomst all problems to do with apps constantly (or not constantly crashing after updating to CM13.
Find CM13 downloads/changelogs here for all the different devices.
Use the appropriate Gapps file from here. Make sure you select the correct platform.
Any further questions/stuff you want to add to this please post below!

No Gapps means no contacts imported from Gmail.. No Gmail.. No Play store.. No Play Services.. Apps would be redundant as well.

Yeah, like geekynoob said, you don't theoretically NEED to flash gapps, but you will lose all Google functionality within your device. You won't be able to access playstore, gmail, use chrome, anything. If that's what you want, then sure, go for it, but there's very little point unless you're doing something quite custom.
What if i install gmail, chrome and other apk's directly will it work ?

Those individual apps will work, yes, but remember Gapps is more than just that. The setup wizard, Android Pay, most of the Sync options, Google Play Games, e.t.c. It's definitely worth installing Gapps if you're going to be using Google services. Why are you thinking of not flashing gapps?

Fair enough. Reason Gapps lag out the phone sometimes (they shouldn't with a OnePlus One) is because of all the extra functionality they add. Also, remember stuff like PlayStore doesn't work, so you'll have to either use a third party store or download all your apps from online. You can get very light Gappshere which shouldn't lag out your phone nearly as much.
"Device location for apps is turned off" message when I turn off location services
"No location access, device location for all apps is turned off, and you may not be able to locate your device if its lost"
Every time I turn off location services I get this in a pop up, and its annoying and I'm wondering if there is a way to prevent this?
Thanks

Hello,
The same for me... Is it a new problem, since it doesn't seem to have a lot of result when I google it ?
I just saw that, but I don't understand, they're talking about a beta program for google play store ?!
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS6/comments/60loyq/no_location_access/
I never subscribed a beta program on the play store...
And what did you do to have this message ? It appeared without doing anything, or not ?
For me, I flashed my Galaxy S4 with a new ROM (AOSP 6), with open gapps pico from 1st april. I was on stock ROM before (Android 5).

When you tried with old gapps, you just flashed the gapps, or it was with a clean install of the rom ?
I noticed open gapps from 25 march until 02 aprilwere the same, but the 24/03 were differents in size.
I tried just flashing 24 but no difference...
And do you understand this story of beta ?

This is upsetting. People who want privacy are being nagged. I'm in the same boat as well. I like to keep location off except when I need it. Is there a xposed or magisk module that could be crafted to make this go away?

I asked for such a solution already as well: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/help/location-access-t3584764/page2
I google already for a couple of days. The issue is already reported in a couple android forums. But no solution so far....
Getting it as well on a older V10 running clean debloated 5.1.1 and my other V10 running 6.0.1 debloated fresh install.
My only guess is the new updated Google Play store is doing it (or other automagically updated google app)
1) Settings -> General -> Location -> Google Location History
2) You can turn this totally off, or you can selectively turn it off by device.
3) Reboot
4) Profit
If you lose your phone, Google won't be able to find it for you. But if you typically turn off GPS, this is probably assumed anyway.

Hi, I am trying to enjoy AOSP rom, but there is a problem with it.
I first logged out the Google account from sense rom, I installed AOSP rom, the latest Magisk zip and MindTheGapps package at the same time from TWRP, then I reboot.
As you might have known, setup wizard should show me the login screen, right?
First steps are ok, but when it comes to logging in to Google, it just skips the dialog after 10 or 20 minutes later and just shows me the last steps of settings.
When I push 'finish' button in the last step, it sometimes shows me FC of setupwizard or says 'You should login with your Google account because your phone has been logged in with it.'
I presume I may need to do some kind of IMEI registration, would this problem related to such thing?

What rom are you trying to install? Did you format your internal storage? This is a must if coming from a sense based rom. Also, opengapps now supports 8.1 so you may give that a shot. I am on Lineage 15.1 and used the opengapps stock package on a clean install and everything worked fine.

SlimRom with MindTheGapps. Of course, in order to bypass the encryption, I formatted the whole /data/ partition.
Also, OpenGapps does the same. I do not know why...
Hello Guys,
I come in need of a help,
I'm writing from my computer now,
Yesterday my phone was working fine,
Today morning, I updated the apps on my phone; amongst the updates was android system webview.
After a reboot, my phone is unresponsive, it won't open any of the apps from that point.
I reboot again, since keyboard doesn't work, I used the OTG cable to use the physical keyboard to enter the password and get in. Tried entering setting to uninstall that crap app, settings is unresponsive.
No SIM services, no keyboard, no fingerprint, no settings etc.. basically nothing works and everything says "unresponsive and asks to either wait or close".
The only thing I have now is TWRP Recovery, and I'm inside it now.
I've wiped Cache + Dalvik / ART Cache : Result still same, nothing works.
I mailed [email protected] (which is provided in the app's "Developer" section) about this and got a reply that the mail is no longer being monitored.
Can someone please let me know how I can remove android system webview by using TWRP ? So that I can enter the phone back again as normal..

I think you can find WebView module in Magisk respiratory so I suggest you give that a try. Flash it and I think it will be fine as long as you have Magisk installed, of course.

Thanks, I couldn't quite understand that..
I've never read/seen a need for Magisk so far.. so may I know what is the procedure to be done here...?
I do read Magisk is a systemless Root, (I already have SuperSu, is that the same functionality? (though I can't open anything that is))
Find the Magisk zip on Google and flash it over TWRP.
Head over to the Magisk module site and you will be able to find an alternate WebView module you can flash. It will be in zip format so I guess you will need USB to transfer those files to your phone since you cannot use it to download modules.

Give it a try and come to tell if you have sorted it out.
If not, you will probably need to flash your ROM again hoping the application won't stay updated but to back to stock version.

You won't lose TWRP but I am not sure about SuperSu since it's very old and people don't use it from the time Magisk appeared. I don't think you will be able to have both TWRP and SuperSu.
It would be good for you to just uninstall the updates of WebView if you can use your phone at all. That would solve the problem.
TWRP basically is a menu what allows you to select and apply ADB and/or Fastboot commands.
SuperSU is a Superuser access management tool: it requires SU binary got installed on Android.
Both mentioned sofwares are completely different things, don't depend on each other.

Just because of one application?
I just want that android webview gone/replaced with a stable one, is that not possible without destroying everything?

we have a solution,
In my case, uninstalling the Xposed framework fixed it for me..
So, while working on this issue I had made a flow map and a log of what is done and its results, may be someone else can benefit from it in the future..
Spoiler: Tries and results
Even starting the entering phone itself is a big issue, because the keyboard applications don't come up; fingerprint doesn't work on first boot as a security measure as well; connected physical keyboard to OTG to phone to enter password... then greeted with lots of errors of all the applications.

Unpacking the system web view.apk on computer gives crap details as it is almost completely encrypted.
Going rabbit hunting through the rabbit hole, checking each folders on "/"
found something similar /system/app/WebViewGoogle/WebViewGoogle.apk
Quick google search confirms that I’m on the right path to finding it...
May be data or XML is somewhere too?
Deleted(copied and deleted) /system/app/WebViewGoogle/WebViewGoogle.apk
Result, Same
Then Reverted
PS: Original Copy at ext_sdcard
Replaced the existing one (92.0.4515.115 with 90.0.4430.210)
Result, no changes.
Then reverted with the crappy original
May be adb will install properly?
Tried adb commands on phone on TWRP, doesn't work
Tried adb from computer to phone, unable to connect to phone.
Was doing it wrong, while in TWRP, I need to initiate "ADB Sideload" and then connect from PC (with Firewall allowed)
then "adb devices", shows connected device with serial number
after the above, the adb push keeps saying "error: connect failed: closed"
turning phone ON and connecting for additional settings (USB debugging) pops "mtp host failed" as soon as I wire..
Started the phone, switched over to Guest account, (oddly seems stuff there are kind of better with lesser error messages), tried launching playstore and wifi, both need password which I don't have, entering settings, hangs for a while, quickly go to apps and uninstall updates for android system web view.. web view becomes 0.0.1
results, fail
Created a temporary user account on phone whilst booting, (because of the observable lesser apps running if I switch over from main..)
added my gaccount on it,
launched playstore to update the android system web view..
the update is stuck at 60%~70 %each time and is unable to complete..
took the v90 application that is on pendrive, connected otg.. and started to install application manually from there..
it said, no space.. even though there is around 4 GB free... continued to disable other applications, such as chrome, youtube, drive etc..
still unable to install the v90 application
even installing other apps (sudoku example) have the same issue,
and then I see a popup that package manager has stopped working (aha! so that itself doesn't work, then can't install),
Went to see if I can change something on developer options, developer option wont come up even after 7+ taps.. hmm strange, may be only main account can have dev options.
While at it, swapped out the Gboard with older AOSP keyboard (retaining Fleksy though).
Rebooted and tried again.. no fix yet..
Atleast I don't have to switch to physical keyboard now for every reboot, since the inner older keyboard comes for first boot.
By TWRP, removed existing app and replaced with v87; doesn't seem to be any different, same errors...
Was about to install the Magisk but it seems to have lots and lots of catches to it, and things to-do before I can go to that...
Continuing investigation on how to downgrade and get back to older state
Through TWRP, deleted the app folder from /system/app/WebViewGoogle/WebViewGoogle.apk
researched to see if there is something else to delete, couldn't find much... proceeding from what we know...
Removed ATSystem.apk (3C's helper) from /system/priv-app just in cast (copy placed at ext_sdcard)
result no change..
Started at around 31-Jul-21 13:00 and went on till 01-Aug-21 01-26 pausing to for the day to rest...
Restored App Folder back to /system/app/WebViewGoogle/WebViewGoogle.apk
WebViewGoogle.apk is v90 again.. (the original seems to be missing, meh, not like it's going to fix)
reboot, result, no changes.
Starting step to install magisk
Removing xposed now..
wiped dalvik cache
rebooting
Kind of stable!!!
Everything seems to work?!?!
Firewalled all app except playstore and mail,
mail seems to work, but can't open the mails (just the headers are received), clicking on the mail says "unable to inflate webview"
aha, I forgot that I have v87 still, if I update that again, will it work (if it doesn't we know how to revert now)
proceeds to update v87 to latest
reboots,
I guess issue resolved by uninstalling xposed, next step to enter phone and move data to safe zone and think about next step.
