Hi
I am having a problem maybe someone can help. I had a custom rom and everything was working fine until it went into a bootloop for some reason and now I cannot seem to be able to do anything. Here is what I can and cannot do. I have TWRP 2.6.3.9 installed but I got an error message when I try to install a rom (several different ones including stock). I can put it into apx and adb mode but cant get easyrecoveryV0.42 to work only error messages athough the device is listed. I tried odin but it doesnt seem to recognize the device. I have reinstalled the drivers and tried on other computers but no luck. Could there be a problem with the partition not mounting? At this point I am willing to try anything.

I tried all three of the recoveries there and nothing. They act as though they are installing but nothing changes. I have tried some different roms from but I get an error message and they won't install.

Try this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1995157
Just go to the "Flash" tab and select "ANDROID ONLY".
This will flash the android prime together with the recovery. After flashing, you can proceed to flash any rom using the recovery.

After installing TWRP 2.5.0.0 I've tried to install the latest TWRP 2.6.3.1 for my Asus TF300T in order to try CM11. I tried a number of methods: trough apps like Recovery tools and with my Windows machine using Fastboot. During the flashing process all seems to be fine and after flashing I always get the message that the flashing is successful. In the case of Fastboot the reboot order has no effect on the tablet. When using the Recovery tools App the tablet reboots to TWRP. But in all cases the TWRP version is still 2.5.0.0, so the is nothing that changed. What is going on? Any ideas? What can I try next?

If you cannot issue a fastboot reboot command successfully, it means there's no communication between the tablet and the PC, "flashing is successful" notwithstanding. You have to make sure your PC sees the tab by typing "fastboot devices." If it returns with a serial number, then you're good to go. If not, check your cable and your PC drivers.

Whow. After working for nearly one day of reading the forum and trying things Philz message helped immediately. Flashing form the recovery itself did the trick. Problem solved.
Thanks for that!
I have a rooted (Superuser 3.1.3) TF101 with TWRP 2.7.0.1. I HAD Katkiss 4.3 installed. One day the tablet locked up and then starting bootlooping. I went into recovery, wiped everything, did factory reset, format /system.
Then I tried to reflash Katkiss 4.3_020, it failed with "set_perm: some changes failed". I then tried katkiss 4.4.2_023c - it failed with a similar error message. Tried flashing stock (US_epad-user-9.2.1.27) - same thing. The first part of the error message for all three ROMs is the same set_perm failure. The next couple of lines gives different error messages depending on the ROM. Generally something like: "E: error executing updater binary in zip".
Now I have a tablet with no ROM on it (when I tried to boot it hangs at the ASUS screen). I can get into the TWRP recovery menu just fine - I can flash other things like superuser or gapps without error. But any ROM I try to flash gives the set_perm error.
Any thoughts?
Chris
Try using Easyflasher to flash a different version of TWRP in case recovery is the problem, TWRP builds newer than 2.3.2.3 are not official builds, they have been continued by another member here once the project was abandoned by the original team
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688012
Use Easyflasher to flash TWRP again - then try flashing KatKiss #23
Thanks but...
Easyflasher doesn't seem to work for me anymore (odd because it is what I first used to root/update my TF101). It runs and declares success - but nothing gets pushed to my device. Tried both SBK1 and SBK2. Using universal naked 0.72 and 0.73 on win7 64 bit.
I tried to find an older version of TWRP like you suggested - but I couldn't. Seems they want you to use "goo manager" from the play store... which doesn't work for me since I can't boot... And the goo website doesn't list an older TWRP for my device.
In any case, the latest TWRP seems to work in every other respect. I read somewhere that superuser can set an "immutable" bit that can survive a wipe? If true - could that be my permissions problem?

I'm new as one can get at this and likely deserve any hammering I may get....TF1010 B70, CWM 5.8.3.4, I know I missed a step somewhere. I can't recover to 4.3 as the back up was bad, not recognized by any computer, loops to recovery and holding power and vol dn the booting to the linuz get me a long (14 hrs) flashing KatKiss boot screen.
I've tried Easyflasher aswell with no results, Please, any hope for this thing, Thanks in advance!
Sounds like your problem is a bit different - can you get into your bootloader? After voldown+power you should see some small text in the upper left of the screen then immediately hit vol up.... From there you should be able to reflash any ROM...

Thanks for your reply, when I do use that button combo, it goes into the ClockworkMod Recovery v5.8.3.4, the native one seems to be gone.
Is that a bad thing? Once in ClockworkMod - you can install a new ROM (such as KatKiss or even go back to stock). Just find the right zip file on the web, copy to your sdcard and then in clockwork select that zip file to install.... Or am I missing something?

Ok - back to my problem - I installed a new recovery and get the same error. The two recoveries I have tried are TWRP (2.3 and 2.7.0.1) and cwm-6.0.2.1-notouch-hybrid. Both seem to work fine (and I had no trouble previously with my device running TWRP and Katkiss 4.3).
After a crash I needed to reinstall a ROM. I've copied four ROMs to my sdcard (Katkiss 4.3, Katkiss 4.4.2, Omni 4.4.2, and stock asus). I've tried all 4 ROMs with both recoveries. I get the same error when I try to install the zips. Usually it is "set_perm: some changes failed". Though stock asus zip fails with a different message "Assert failed: package_extract_file(“blob”, “/tmp/blob”)".
Any ideas on what is keeping a recovery from installing the zip? Note they can install other zips fine (i.e. other recoveries, superuser, gapps, etc.). But not the ROM.

Hello, guys, how are you all?
I'm having some trouble with my Galaxy Tab 2 (P3100), and I was hoping you could help.
Here's the thing, the Tab shuts down minutes after I boot it. So I tried to factory reset the tab, using its stock recovery.
The thing is, although it says the wipe was successful, nothing happens, nothing changes.
Alright, next I tried flashing a custom recovery - CWM - with Odin on Windows. Again, it says the flash was successful, but when I try to boot in recovery mode, it's the stock recovery that loads! Absolutely no sign of CWM whatsoever. Using Heimdall on linux got me the exactly same result, and I'm out of norse gods...
Finally, flashing the stock rom for the P3100 using Odin always fails. I'm not sure why.
So sorry for the long post. Can anyone help me?

Unmark 'Autoreboot' option in Odin. Then reboot it manually into recovery...

Hello everybody,
I am having trouble installing a custom rom on my SGH-T779 10.1 Tab 2 that I just got. I have a few questions. One can I use a wifi only rom on this T-mobile Tab 2? I see that there is several different designators talking about the Tab 2. Should I be using the P5100, p5110, or the P5113? How can I tell? Why not just use T779?
I was able to find a few good looking roms. Downloaded them and a recovery boot image. Was able to get it into download mode and flash the img using Heimdall on my linux machine. Heimdall always shows that the flash was complete with no errors. I booted into recovery mode.
Before flashing the rom I did the usual wipe before hand. After the wipe I can not boot into the stock rom. It is just stuck on the Samsung.
Went to install a rom and I got an error about the rom being for a different recovery. So searched and found some posts about getting a recovery to work and flash the roms just fine. So I tried that one. After flashing it trying to boot into recovery I got the booting recovery message then the screen just goes black. Then it takes a lot of messing around with the buttons to try to boot into recovery or download.
Finally got a recovery to let me boot into recovery. Then trying to install a rom I get the status 7 error. I searched that and found a few solutions. Tried the editing of the updater script. Didn’t work. Tried the signature verification trick. No luck.
I have tried espresso-twrp, twrp, philz touch, openrecovery-twrp. I have tried them for the P5100 and the P5110.
So now I can boot into Odin Download mode only. What am I missing? What can I do to get a custom rom on this thing? It has never been this hard before. Driving me crazy!
Thank you very much!

SGH-T779 is completely different from any of these tabs P5100, p5110, or the P5113. not the same chipset, not the same GSM band.
please don't confuse and use these ROMs, they aren't meant for the CDMA version.
check this out

you will find the difference here. it can't work
I just flashed many different versions of TWRP downloaded from their site(I got only the ones compatible with my P5100). After successfully flashing them all through Odin, I can't boot into recovery. The TWRP logo screen is shown and after 2 seconds the device reboots. I followed many guides, and they were all similar in this particular process. Am I missing something, or could there be anything wrong with my unit?

did you also installed a rom??
No. I'm running the stock rom, no root. I just wanted to get the twrp installed because I need to copy my personal files to an sd card. My stock rom is rebooting itself after completing the normal system startup. I can barely open any app. So I need to backup my files and do a factory reset. Any ideas? Thanks!
I think you need to get rid of TWRP and root the stock ROM, then flash TWRP using an app running on your tablet. Do not use a PC to flash the recovery. Also, if you are installing a zip, you must do it on the device, not through your PC.

That doesn't make sense. Odin exists for the exact purpose of flashing through a PC, in case your recovery or anything gets damaged.
