Yes, I need to opt to install it, but the download is done without me asking or approving it. We turned a brand new phone last night and before we knew it was already downloading software update. When I went to the Software Update under settings today it showed a "last check" of about an hour earlier, so apparently it does randomly check for updates. My question is - can this be stopped.
Thanks.

There is a critical update that all nexus 5 must do when taken out of the box. The phone cannot be used before this update happens. This is the only update that is forced.
The rest are optional

I'm not sure this works anymore and you must have root to do this.
Download FOTAKill.apk I've attached to this post.
Put the .apk in /system/app
Reboot.

Out of curiosity, if you're not rooted and don't have immediate plans to root, why don't you want OTA updates?

I do want updates, but I want to determine when to download them (AKA when I'm on wifi), I don't want the phone to force them on me when I'm on cell data.

You can't disable it without root. And with root, it requires breaking the functionality in order to stop it. I don't know about that APK, but you can delete the otacerts.zip file.
You may be able to hide the notification, though, by long pressing the update notification and unticking the Show notifications box.

When the OTA hits your phone the OTA will only be downloaded with WiFi for a week or so. If you still haven't downloaded the file by then, it will download via mobile network. So you don't have to worry about it using your data.

Have we received the LG knock code update yet?
At the time of writing this sadly no. I check the LGST everyday..
What's lgst by the way? This update should be any day now I would figure. There's nothing on Google to be found in terms of a timeline.
What is the best place to check for new firmware update news for our phones when we no longer get update push notifications due to changing kernel/roms?

(LGST) = Lg support tool. I plug it in everyday to see if Lg has pushed the update. More than likely they would release it before T-Mobile would. To check on the website go here https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...juYUYCh9oQyBD36sw&sig2=_UtTeFphjkZtf122VQTREA and just go to to support and select more then software update.

Yeah. Im starting to think though that it's not going to happen til after the G3 releases. I think they want to see how many people jump ship to the new product. It would behoove them to wait so they can increase G3 sales.. my opinion though.
in euro ver of d802 ther is knock code.
Just checking in, any updates? I'm not even concerned about the touch code, looking more forward to any kernel/ROM performance tweaks and hotfixes that may be included!

i downloaded and installed the 300MB OTA update yesterday without issue. check to confirmed that knockcode feature is present and currently testing to see how battery life is as there's supposedly improvements made there.
Yeah I had an issue too where all the lg tools was telling me that 20a was the latest for me. So I had to go and download the kdz myself and use the 2014 flasher found on the forum.

Some background info:
Nexus 5
Unlocked Bootloader
TWRP
Running Purity Rom
I have been running this Rom for about 2 months with no major issues. Now I am being prompted to do an OTA to 4.4.3. If I was stock that would be normal and expected but I am not sure what to do in my situation. I can not stop the prompt, I clear it from my notification window and it just appears back in 10 seconds or so.
I have tried to figure it out but cant find anything on the Purity thread, and I cant post my question there because I don't have 10 posts...
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I apologize if this answer is in a million places and I didn't see it.

With that being said, Is it even possible to update the ROM I'm currently using without doing a wipe. They have released a few new versions since I flashed.

I am in a pretty similar situation. At this point I'm happy with the stability and performance of the build I'm on. Upgrading to 4.3.3 isn't a huge concern at this moment. I just don't have the time to reconfigure all applications and settings if I have to do a wipe.
Figured out I out if you disable viewing notifications from the Google play services app the notification will go away.

Reading Puritys thread, you can dirty flash it, but do it at your own risk. I read quite a bit of success doing it.
I run Purity 4.4.3 and it's really nice.
But like I said, either disable it if you don't care for the update, or try a dirty flash.
Or back everything up, and wipe, then flash and then restore.
But I take no responsibility for what may happen if you dirty flash, or anything.

I forgot to come back and update this thread. The issue for me was resolved by doing a dirty update, with no wipes at all. Obviously do a nandroid back up in your respective recovery first.

Hey guys,
Anyone been able to get the H950 V11Z update? Any tips?
I called att 5 times, they either say it doesn't exist or fail to push it. LG sync says my software is up to date. i have forwarded my clock an entire year.
It does exist, that's how I provided Sj with the system.img so he could to root 11z for everyone. According to a rep I spoke with the updates are linked to IMEI blocks, but I'm weary of that statement's validity. I can only suggest that you keep trying and clear cache for Software Update + Update center.

Thanks. Also did you have to unroot h95011x to receive the z update, or can you just receive the update as normal & just loose root after it's done? I was wondering if unchecking "enable superuser" to temp disable root before the update & re-enabling it after the update would save root? Thanks

I didn't root until after using 11z. I think Sj would suggest installing the stock image of 11x before updating to 11z. Also there might be some sort of integrity check that SuperSU may interfere with.

you are right because if you try to update with root, it will fail!!!
You do not need to wait for the OTA from OnePlus to be available in your region. OnePlus rolls out updates gradually so as to not overload their servers, but this may mean that you have to wait 2 or 3 more days to get the OTA available on your device for download. But there's GOOD NEWS!
You can install immediately an OTA is available for download regardless of where you are in the world by using a VPN app!
It's easy, I will introduce you all to this Beautiful, Lite yet effective VPN app which has UNLIMITED Bandwidth and is 100% FREE!
The name of the App is Savage VPN. In a few simple steps you can start installing an OTA that isn't yet available on your phone yet.
1. Download the Savage VPN App from the Google Play Store. Or Click -> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.savagevpn.android
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2. Click the location icon at the top right part of the screen to change location. Select CANADA or GERMANY (Canada works first mostly).
3. Click CONNECT.
4. Go to Settings > System Updates. It will check Automatically. If it doesn't click 'Check For Updates' at the bottom right corner of the screen and et Viola! You can now download and install the latest OTA immediately!
P.S
- OTA are not targeted to regions. You will be installing EXACTLY the same thing you wait 2-3 days more for. So why not install it now?!
- You do not have to stay connected to the VPN to download. You can disconnect IMMEDIATELY the update is found.
- If you have Root. Only download FULL OTA updates and look at other Root threads on how to handle Root with TWRP or Magisk and what not.
- If you need a VPN Solution, you can always use it. If you need more time, Simply Click. 'GET MORE TIME'.
I hope this thread helps someone. Cheers!
Or download Oxygen Updater from the Play Store.
No need to start a VPN everytime you want to check for a new update. This app notifies you when there is a new version available. The only downside is you have to update as a local update, it will not do it automatically.

That's another method, yes. This will be more familiar to some as they are already used to installing OTAs normally.
Some people brick their phones using that app too because they played with the settings or it didn't get detection of device right.
