[Q] App Ops not Retained - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I'm setting App Ops for applications such as Facebook, etc. and after a reboot or an extended period of time, the settings revert to default "all on". Maybe someone else has seen this problem or has an idea of how I can troubleshoot to see what is modifying the settings? In all my searches, I cannot find anything related to this problem, but I find a lot about App Ops not being in Kit Kat.
ROM is Liquid Smooth 2.37.
I tried posting to the LiquidSmooth thread, but I'm new... so... fail. Hoping this is more generalized than just this ROM.

Same problem here

I'm pretty sure it IS an issue with Liquid Smooth. I'm having the same issue. I've used it on other ROMs without issue. Even unchecking "show notifications" in App info doesn't survive a reboot. I'm on version 2.37 as well. Let me know if you figured anything out.

Unfortunately, I never found any fix. I am no longer on Liquid Smooth, but rather grudgingly went to a stock variant (CleanRom 8) to match my wife's stock ROM. At least it's CleanRom.
At least I know I wasn't going crazy. Thanks for the reply.

Facebook App Notifications

Am I the only one who doesn't get FB notifications?
The only way I know of anything is by email.
I have the notifications turned on in the app, and my wife's Hero gets hers all the time....
EDIT:
It seems this is an issue for some people across all the Android phones. Sure wish they would fix it. Wonder why my wifes works so well....
I become prone to flashing different Rom's alot lately. One thing I've noticed, is that, I NEVER got FB notifications on the stock Rom. Hell, I didn't even know it was possible. Only thing I got was the updates on the updates tab in contacts/sync. Once I started flashing Rom's, it's been hit or miss, depending on the Rom in question. And i have noticed, a few Rom's come with the notification disabled, by default. Meaning, all you have to do, is find the options page where it is located, and enable it. Hell, that might have been the case for the stock Rom.

Ditto on hit or miss. Can't remember on stock, but right now I don't get them, I have gotten them. It beats me. Facebook sync is a little iffy but usually I get that one, and I have that synced now. I would rather get FB notifications than an email, but I guess I would be whining too much.
bump
Anyone have any more insight on this yet? I wasn't getting them, then removed all accounts, and the apps from the authorized section on my facebook account settings. Then readded the account on my phone. I got them for about a week, and they've stopped again. I'm running rooted stock 2.1.
Try opening the Facebook app, then exit it by hitting the Home button on the phone (not the back button). Seems like as long as the app is running in the background, you'll get the notifications, but if you've got a task killer or something and you kill the app, you're not gonna get them. That's what has worked for me, but your mileage may vary.

Pls Healp - Froyo Notification Bar - i896

Hello,
I am using a Non rooted Rogers canada samsung captivate.
I recently upgraded through KIES to Froyo.
The two issues I am having are:
1) Wifi, i use juice defendor, so when i enter my house wifi is enabled automatically, many times, there is an error, and i cant click wifi on until a reboot, then it works fine for a while until it will happen again.
2) The notification bar doesn't slide down at times, and the only way to fix this is by rebooting. These two things are very annoying as they happen on a daily basis, or every other day.
I have seen these issues happen to others, so I know im not the only one, but I cant find a solution anywhere.
Any help would be appreciated.
anything i can do? would a factory reset help and a full reinstall?

It might but to be honest I have never seen a stock rom that is not buggier then any custom rom i have run. What you could try is start from scratch and see if the prob happens on an out of the box set up. If it does then it is an issue with the rom, if not then install your apps one by one to see if one of them is covering it. My advice? Grab one of the custom roms build from the Rogers 2.2 update like Cog or Firefly.
Try uninstalling juice defender.
I had the same problem with notification panel not sliding down after installing juice defender. I uninstalled it and the problem went away.
Did you solve the problem with the notification dropdown? Was it Juice Defender? I am experiencing the same issue.
I have problem number 2 too. No juice defender or any power saving tool or what not running in the background. Happens only once in a while although so its not killing me
Same problem here. I can't pin it to a specific program. But I think it has something to do with a certain notification because it always does it when I download a program or install a new program.
I've experienced both but after OCLF (which requires root) the notification bar issue doesn't happen. I've recently moved on to a stock kernel injected with voodoo lagfix (courtesy of supercurio) after having tried speedmod which gave me horrible battery life.
My battery life is good enough that I just leave wifi on all the time to avoid issue #1. When the wifi issue happened, going to airplane mode and back would fix it too without a full reboot.
k the best thing to do in your situation as people new to xda is if you are unrooted and want to stay that way go into the rogers store and say your touchscreen is buggy which to me seems like the issue you are having. also if your on the stock rogers 2.2 as i was for a coupple months all i can tell you is that its super buggy (as you could probobly tell from that terror they called an install). if your confident and want to get your feet wet with a great custom rom i would go with firefly that should fix any issues you have its a fuly stable final release and best part its based on rogers software not at&t so it will work flawlessly with the network and most likley fix any problems you are having
Don't use 100% pure stock
Use tweaked - with EXT4 LagFix, OC/UV, Sideloading enabled, rooted, VoodooSound, with GPS fixes.
Older Cognition 3.4 was Rogers based - I can recommend that.

[Q] Package installer won't work... can't press button

I just upgraded to cm7 and now sometimes when I try to install an app from an apk file it wont let me hit the install button.
If I am using Amazon appstore it works, the same type of screen comes up and I can install stuff. But when installing from a downloaded apk (like from here) the button just doesn't work... it isn't greyed out or anything but is simply unresponsive.

Hey I have this same problem, did you ever figure out this issue? Thanks!
Please let me know if anyone knows how to fix this issue, I'm having the same problem
Bump this
Problem persists on my phone as well. Brand new Droid X2 stock ROM rooted with zergrush kit including busybox, superuser, and recently installed: nobloat free, droidwall, SD Booster, blade buddy, spare parts+, and setcpu (which is pretty much useless without a custom ROM that has the kernel to support it)
Edit: make sure unknown sources is checked under app settings =]
Edit again: NOPE still a problem =[
Edit again: FIGURED IT OUT!!!! Simply turn off your screen filter! =D (I don't know why, but that WAS my problem 100%)
Hi all, I'm facing the same problem, but I don't have screen filter installed. What else have you tried?
Here's my main post about this.
I've also heard that Juice Defender can cause this problem. Sadly, like you, I still can't fix it on my phone!
Anyone?
AHA! I found mine! TEAM Battery Bar. It's a spectacular app; if you've not gotten it yet, I highly recommend it. I just turned it off within the app itself, (I checked running apps to give me a clue,) and the installer button worked.
After hearing about several display-related apps causing the problem, I looked for those on my phone. TEAM Battery Bar does indeed run a constant display item, so I think that's the key. I'll notify the dev. He's pretty responsive.
I can confirm: disabling TEAM Battery Bar solve the problem! thanks

Thanks, that fixed my problem on my Galaxy S2 with LPQ ICS rom. Probably should report it to the dev for fixing...
in my case Juice Defender was a problem, since I don't have any screen filters installed
uninstalling Juice Defender fixed my phone
EDIT Friend of mine has the same phone (SGS2) with the same ROM installed, JD never caused any problems with his phone
The only difference between my JD settings and his - I got brightness control enabled, so maybe that was a problem, not JD itself

I'm currently on SGS2 rooted stock LPQ and just figured it out myself that Screen Filter is actually doing something so that the install button cant be pressed. Has anyone informed the dev?
Edit: just mailed the dev of Screen Filter hoping for confirmation and fix
'Lux Auto Brightness' is causing the same issue, so seems that all the applications trying to adjust screen brightness will cause the issue.
By the moment I disable it, I am able again to install apks... really weird
Also, not clear why only the install button is effectively disabled, as cancel bitton works and the 'show all perms' drop down , also works

Good call! That was the exact app that was causing me problems as well. Here's hoping to a quick fix!

i encountered the same issue and after reading your post and searching hard on my n7000, i finally found what causes it...on my n7000 it was glove box. After uninstalling my phone is back to normal again

Thanks for all the infos, guys. For me, it was both Lux Auto Brightness and Twilight. I disabled them using task manager and everything went smoothly from that. Explains why no matter how much I reboot, it doesn't fix things. I also have avast Mobile Antivirus installed and it has a constant display notification but it doesn't cause any issues. I am guessing it has something to do with code wired to the phone's hardware? As all the apps causing problems had to do with overlapping device setting control over screen brightness or hue.

[Q] CleanROM - ASUS Customized settings force close

I don't see a response to a similar post and can't seem to dig up much through searching, so hoping someone might know. I just installed CleanROM (latest version). I actually wiped everything and tried re-installing with the stock kernel and still see force closes when trying to access the customized settings. It wouldn't be such a big deal, except I hate the ASUS notification bar and I can't turn off the auto brightness. Has anyone dealt with this? Does anyone know a solution?

install the 2.6.1 patch. it fixes this issue. if that doesn't work then reinstall and make sure to select asus sync in aroma. turns out it is required for the customized settings.
Thanks! In my excitement I overlooked the patch. It's working now!

[Q] Popping after any sound (P5100, CM10.1)

Hello,
my tablet is producing a very loud "pop" noise when speaker turns off (ie. after any sound). Galaxy Nexus seemed to have the same (hardware) issue, but I believe that mine is caused by software, as it started after I flashed CyanogenMod 10.1 (latest nightly). I'm running following setup right now:
DhollmenCM (but I flashed cyanogenmod over it, not sure if it's still here)
CyanogenMod 10.1 latest nightly
GApps for CM 10.1
Before installing CM everything worked well (but the original ROM is **** and I need profiles). How am I supposed to fix this?
I've had that before as well. Do you by chance have any audio enhancing software installed besides DSP Manager? Programs like Volume+ are notorious for this.
DSP Manager has everything disabled, nothing else is installed.
First I would try to remove DSP just to see if that's the problem.
Here is a simple app that I use to remove apps that the ROM's have in them that I don't want. I usually do it after I flash because I don't feel like opening the ROM on the computer and removing them ahead of time.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/u4wijb1zwzdd3pn/4TyYtOpd1x
If removing DSP doesn't solve your issue and you didn't have this problem previously, I would reflash wiping "everything" before flash, including data. Since at that point there would be no way to be certain what is causing it. I don't believe the kernel could be the problem as I am running CM10.1 and the Dhollmen kernel as well and don't have any issues.
I have reflashed everything many times - with no effect. After removal of DSP there's no difference too.

But did you wipe the system before flashing?
This is critical to make sure you have a clean installation, without it there are pieces that get left behind and cause all sorts of issues. If you have wiped, then it sounds like you have developed a hardware issue. Did it get dropped any time recently?
pzduniak,
I don't know if you're still having this problem, but I ran into this problem too. It was driving me nuts. It started happening when I was playing Pixel Dungeons.. then crept to my alarm and popped every time sounds played. I tried the DSPManager thing to no avail, but I tried this and so far have not heard any popping. I'm still testing, but I went into system>build.prop (I'm on a Sprint Galaxy S3, so just find build.prop on your device). In build.prop (make sure you're rooted so you can make changes), change the line that says lpa.decode=true to false. reboot and try that out. I researched very little about lpa.decode, but I remember having a problem in stock with battery drain and lpa.decode.. I dont know if it's true at all but give that a shot and let me know if the pops go away!
Good luck!

I had been having this popping problem for a while now, and Google brought me here. I went ahead and changed the lpa.decode to false like you suggested and it worked like a charm! Thanks mtran2988!
