[GUIDE][SCRIPT] Install/Restore 4.1/4.2 ROMs without Odin - Galaxy S Advance I9070 General

If you want to install or restore a CM10.1-based or stock-based ROM while you are on CM10.2/11 based ROM without using Odin you are into right place.
Automatic process with Recovery-flashable zip:
Download Format-Preload-RecoveryModeV2.zip and put it into sdcard
Reboot device in recovery and install the zip, no need to reboot after flashing
Now you can install or restore any CM10.1-based ROM!!
Semi-automatic process with Linux/Windows script - needs ADB
To use only if Automatic process doesn't work for you
Reboot device in recovery and connect to USB
Download Format zip depending on your OS. Then:
On Windows: Extract zip, copy extracted file to the same directory where is ADB executable and double click .bat
On Linux: Extract zip where you want, for example your home directory, and run it in Terminal with . PreloadFormat.sh
Click to collapse
Manual process with ADB
To use only if either Automatic and Semi-automatic don't work for you
Boot device into recovery mode, connect it to USB
Open ADB and type in order:
Code:
[B]adb devices[/B] (to be sure that device is recognized, you see some numbers followed by "recovery" word)
[B]adb shell
su
parted /dev/block/mmcblk0
mkfs
(now wait 2 sec and confirm with Y)
9
ext2[/B]
Little explanation: Preload partition is used as swap partition from CM10.2 and up in our device, without formatting it (format /preload when is a swap partition doesn't work in CWM, at least for me. Parted can't format in ext4, so we need to format in ext2) you get bootloop when you install/restore a 10.1 ROM.

There is one more way too without using pc and adb..
Boot into recovery and format /system.(optional)
Now install any CM10.1 ROM on top of CM10.2.
Then go to advance option in CWM recovery and choose "reboot recovery".
Now when phone reboots into recovery, go to mount and storage and format /preload and /data.
Now reboot.
The rom will boot up normally.
I was on carbon ROM and successfully booted the MIUI using the following method..
Thanks to @Toni5830 for letting me know this method..

Format /preload won't work if formatting it with the recovery in cm10.2.
That's why i said to reboot recovery so as to enter into cm10.1 recovery..

Yes, it doesn't work on CM10.1 too! Maybe because my device is repartitioned and /preload space is around 128 KB.

I don't think that it works on cm11..
This method only works for installing cm10.1 from cm10.2.
You can't flash a 4.3 or 4.2 ROM from the cm11 recovery as it gives an error in the flashing process..

CM10.2 and CM11 uses preload partition as swap, so you can install CM11/10.2 based ROM over CM11/10.2 based ROM without using this. You can't downgrade to previous versions without this or flashing stock firmware.

Sorry for noob question but as OP says; Make sure that /system partition is mounted under mounts and storage
What do I need to do in CWM
unmount /system ?

Where`s the download link
Update info about recovery loop
-I don't know what reason make CWM ruin boot flags so Device will boot to recovery instead of normal boot.
to minimal the chance you should manually mount /system
-Will test on new update script. The old script marks as error in cwm error log...
Tried using custom graphics source for recovery ?
Nice waiting for it for so long....btw shudnt this be in original development section
So,I can start to install roms and other things with this recovery but just mount /system before do it?

[Q] Please let me know some needfullness of some scripts for rooting ace plus.

I want to know some information regarding root of ace plus. currently I have not rooted my phone.
I think http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2284737, this one is the latest version of rooting of ace plus. So regarding the softwares for rooting I want to ask some questions
1. Currently I can open Recovery mode (volume up+volume down+home key+power button), as well ass download mode (volume down+home key+power button). So what is CWM?? What it will change?? CWM=clock work mod recovery I think. So will it change my current default Recovery mode (volume up+volume down+home key+power button) ?? Or it will change my current default Recovery & Download mode both??
2. What is SuperSU Package & BusyBox.zip? What they will do?? Why they should be installed?
I will be highly grateful if you please answer me according to the question numbers. Actually I don't want to root like a novice. After knowing everything every scripts what I'm supposed to install then only I want to root. I don't think this is crime . So will you help me guys to know everything?? :silly: :silly:

What is CWM?
ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM) is a replacement recovery option for Android devices, made by Koushik "Koush" Dutta. It is based on the Android 2.1 (Eclair) recovery image. Features include Nandroid backup, adb shell, advanced update.zip options (ignore asserts and signature checks), and file browser for choosing update.zips
What will it change? Will it change my current default Recovery mode or it will change my current default Recovery & Download mode both?
It will replace your stock samsung 3e recovery giving you more functions like mounting your system partition as a writeable partition.
What is SuperSU Package & BusyBox.zip and why should they be installed?
-SuperSU allows for advanced management of Superuser access rights for all the apps on your device that need root. SuperSU has been built from the ground up to counter a number of problems with other Superuser access management tools.
-BusyBox combines tiny versions of many common UNIX utilities into a single small executable. It provides replacements for most of the utilities you usually find in GNU fileutils, shellutils, etc. The utilities in BusyBox generally have fewer options than their full-featured GNU cousins; however, the options that are included provide the expected functionality and behave very much like their GNU counterparts. BusyBox provides a fairly complete environment for any small or embedded system.
BusyBox has been written with size-optimization and limited resources in mind. It is also extremely modular so you can easily include or exclude commands (or features) at compile time. This makes it easy to customize your embedded systems. To create a working system, just add some device nodes in /dev, a few configuration files in /etc, and a Linux kernel.
What will they do?
The two ZIP files will install SuperSU and BusyBox.
Great explanations

Now I have another question. CWM replaces samsung's default recovey. right??
Then if I want to unroot then will it be possible to replace this CWM with the stock recovery?? And If it is possible then will be noticeable by samsung if I go to samsung care??

After rooting:
First of all use Triangle away app for resetting binary counter and then flash stock rom and do a factory reset.
Flashing Stock Rom using odin will also revert back recovery to Stock Recovery and you will also be unrooted.
Thats it you will remove all the traces of rooting and Kies will also detect your phone it means you have not rooted.

Yep, that's right

It's possible to replace even without root access, but that's not enough, you need to remove /system/xbin/su as well.
If you want to unroot your phone I suggest the following (you can also flash your official stock rom using Odin):
Flash your stock recovery.
Either by using:
Odin
Terminal Emulator (copy your stock recovery.img file to your, let's say, USB storage /sdcard and type the following codes and press enter after each line)
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p12
Note:!!! be careful when you deal with your partition table:
mount point fstype device format option mount option device2
/boot emmc /dev/block/mmcblk0p8 default default
/cache ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p17 default default
/data ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p18 default default
/misc emmc /dev/block/mmcblk0p21 default default
/preload ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p22 default default
/sdcard vfat /dev/block/mmcblk0p23 default default /dev/block/mmcblk0
/system ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p16 default default
/efs ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p19 default default
/recovery emmc /dev/block/mmcblk0p12 default default
/sys_boot vfat /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 default default
Open Triangle Away > RESET FLASH COUNTER (only if you used Odin)
Open SuperSU > Settings > choose "FULL UNROOT"
If it is possible then will be noticeable by samsung if I go to samsung care?
As long as you your flash counter is ZERO (no yellow triangle), no custom recovery or kernel and everything is stock specially boot animation they will notice nothing. :victory:
By the way I suggest using TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) over CWM.
It's way more better, not just because it has touch UI, file manager, terminal emulator or nandroid backups compression. It can ROOT your phone (just flash it and reboot into recovery mode then choose REBOOT > SYSTEM)
It will tell that you don't have root access and it will ask you if you want to root before booting or not, swipe to root or choose DON'T INSTALL if you don't want root access.

GApps & Root for AOSP KK ROMS Noob-Friendly (Guide)

To root AOSP Based Roms :& Flash GApps.
1. Get any Kernel with a recovery which is from JB 4.2(kernel for example ThunderZap by @varun.chitre15 )
2. Flash it via fastboot. To flash download Flashtool from here.
• Important Note : After flashing kernel don't reboot directly to system and disconnect the phone from PC, then boot and press the required keys to boot to recovery.
3. Boot into Recovery, by pressing vol +or- key when led glows while booting.
4. Download Flashable package of Super SU from here {Official Site)(Also Attached as a Zip flash it by using recovery via install zip option. and then Power Off.
5. Now fastboot again and flash the original supplied kernel and boot the device.
6. Enjoy now you have Super Su check with any root app to confirm root.
•>> Thank me if it helped you And this method is checked thrice by me.
TIP: You can also use this method to flash GApps

"Root of your sd card" ? There isn't any such folder when i connect it to the pc.
Try to pull the zip with adb to external sdcard(sdcard1).Then flash from external in recovery).

For people who get error mounting data
Simply flash this cwm
Flash the rom zip (this will install the kernel)
Reboot to recovery
Format system data cache
Mount system data cache
Flash the rom zip again
Restart
For me it shows..
Can't mount sdcard when i try install zip from sdcard really... actually i flashed for galaxy pocket it worked dont say now how it worked i will send ss also wait ..

2. data & sd-ext can't be mounted.recovery.log attached.
3. when clicking to backup, recovery background image turns into huge big & some portion is blacked.screenshot attached.

This CWM is only compatible with EXT4 filedystem. I should add that info to the firdt post
Works.......
Works perfectly fine on galaxy pocket with some modifications.....Needs to be resized though....But, my question is, can it flash CM11? (not on pocket but on totoro)....

yes it can flash cm11
of course you need to be on ext first or flash the cm11 rom (this will install the kernel) reboot to recovery format system data cache mount system data cache and flash the rom zip again
would be easier just flashing the kernel with cwm built in if you are using totoro
if you get status 7 errors it means your phone doesnt currently have the correct build prop - you can either
remove the lines that check for the prop in the updater script of the rom
flash cm7 first
try flashing my buildprop first that I posted in the cm11 general section
So sir ..

you cant have done all the steps
if you have flashed and got a working cm7 it would be impossible to get status 7 errors
also if you mounted system and flashed my build prop (note if you use this recovery you must already be on ext - if not use cmw 5 to flash my build prop file) and rebooted to recovery you would also have the correct build prop (your current rom will no longer boot) then you can flash cwm 6 and not have status 7 errors
@marcuss smith sorry but u are wrong
Flashing cm11 needs kernel modification
Just but boot.img from cm11 to a Kernel zip (Kernel cm7 totoro for example) then flash it
And now flash cm11

in what part am I wrong -
The cm 11 rom zip contains the kernel therefore you can flash this temp cwm and them flash the rom zip - in the process you are flashing the kernel - you can then reboot to recovery format system data cache to convert to ext mount everything again and then flash the rom zip -
Of course it would be much easier to just flash the kernel with the cwm6 built in and reboot to recovery and format system data cache and then mount everything and flash the rom zip - but if you are on ext anyway then you can just use this and flash the rom zip - will still work
Job done except if you have status 7 error
the reason I said its easier if you on cm7 is because of the following
stock rom build.prop is - GT-S5360
cm7 build.prop is - totoro
in order to flash the cm11 rom zip without status 7 error you need your build prop to say your device is totoro
Thats why I said you can either remove this requirement from the updater script - be on cm7 first - or flash my build.prop in order for it to say your device id is totoro

Just to clarify, does this allow mounting and editting of /system partition, manually via TWRP terminal?

The properdata fix will flash a empty image to the phone which you'll have to resize after flash or I'll get 2.Gb of internal storage only.you might need repair data first or reboot recovery for it to be repairable.

I whant to flash newest N emui 5.0 wihout roolback
I don't know why but my phone fails to boot after flashing the properdatafix.zip and resizing.
It resizes correctly but after it won't boot. I have to flash old firmware and upgrade to to 7.0 again.

Exactly what did you flash? AFAIK if it is a zip that mounts a image it will either bill the flash process with a reboot or make your device stuck on splash screen. What zip did u use?
If.u flashed N pack from M twrp u can install it again with this twrp. If it doesn't boot then it's probably due to a Img (ext4) that is being mounted and that's most likely is due to modified boot.img which will kill the boot procedure supersu package can make a modified boot but it won't boot due to su.img being mounted so it'll reboot to recovery

I flashed the properdatafix.zip from the 1st post. Then rebooted in to twrp went to wipe - advanced wipe - data - resize partion - reboot - stuck on black screen.
fastboot flash, recovery, boot, system, from stock to get device booting again.
I must be doing something wrong. I know this is really cheeky to ask but could you make a video or something of the correct flashing procedure? The way I have tried is like this:
1 Fastboot flash your recovery.img
2. Boot into TWRP recovery.
3. Install properdatafix.zip
4. Reboot recovery.
5. Resize data partition.
6. Reboot and phone wont boot anymore.

You can install the firmware again after you resized the data partition if something goes wrong and report back if it helps. Maybe it is a block issue in fstab but it shouldn't be

What file system (data) should be displayed in TWRP, ext4?

The data should be ext4 format. Could u mount system and check if there's any file in system folder also u might need to resize system as well since u only have 19mb as well.

Thanks. It seems to reflash ok in TWRP but after the flash completes. I need to factory reset but I am back to to stock recovery. It seems that flashing the update.zip overwrites the recovery. (I assume this is expected?)
Thanks again for your help. Is there is anything else I can try to get this to work?

Yes the recovery is replaced after flash back stock. Did it boot after reflashed?
Strange are you having Vendor And product option available in Mount restore and backup? To see if they are properly flashed?

Did you get the data to work in TWRP? I think the boot.img is the issue here tbh. Since I neither can't boot unless I use a supersu fixed image.
Sent from my FRD-L09 using Tapatalk
Ok w8 I'll fix a twrp that will make the installation of su system less mode possible but u will be forced to remove su.img from /data/ else it won't boot
fastboot flash this: http://www21.zippyshare.com/v/7YNPp3AI/file.html
Before You Flash SuperSU-Systemmode you need to mount system & /vendor first since the Sepolicy is located in the "Vendor" Partition for reasons i won't bother to explain.
Once Flashed Mount Data again (if it gets unmounted, mount system) and navigate to /data and remove su.img
This will make N booting

Did u use the new recovery? If so that is for now common since it uses a different mount file rather than busbox version) that's why this message comes
In fact I copied over the "original" mount file from stock recovery but it isn't copying the compete file as it's only 6b so it'll stay until I try fix it.
