mSATA Replacement on Surface RT 1 - Microsoft Surface

HI Guys,
I have just had a search and can't find anything on replacing the mSATA SSD in the Surface RT 1st Gen.
Has anyone thought about doing this? or have any knowledge on how to do it? or if it would work?
I don't want to change the OS just add additional storage like a 256 SSD, I have the 64gb version with a 64gb Micro SD and 64gb thumb drive in the side yet copying from one to the other takes time. if I was able to have 256gb of inbuilt storage that would be great.
Thoughts?

The Surface RT doesn't have an mSATA drive. It uses eMMC instead, and the chip is soldered onto the motherboard. It's the Surface Pro that uses mSATA. Sorry!

Thats why i cant find anything.. thanks mate

[Q] General Android Tablet re: max drive size

Is there a limitation in android that max's the accessible cardspace to 32G? What if one was to use a 64G micro SD card would it work?
The SDHC v. 2 card spec tops out @ 32G. You won't see anything larger until v. 3 hits the market (and even then I think v.3 is incompatible with v.2). See Wikipedia for more about SDHC.
unless you use a micro usb thumb drive.. i get a feeling people are forgetting about these. they are quite a bit cheaper than micro-sd.
I plan on getting a 64gb mini one myself

64gb FAT32 thumbdrives work fine and 500gb Western Digital USB hard drive FAT32 works well too.

Aha. So theoretically you could put a 32g SDcard, and have the 16G internal. Or as another poster mentioned a larger usb drive, Trying to incorporate my 30g gen4 ipod into the device.

I would have to agree with ikoolkid but if u really want to know then:
1. Make sure your motherboard supports the processor you're trying to install (socket type, bus frequency and size),
2. Since you're trying to implement ddr3 ram, make sure the motherboard supports it, otherwise, don't waste your money buying ddr3 ram modules.
3. For graphics card, make sure your motherboard supports it.
4. make sure your power supply has the capacity of giving power to all components, add the power requirements of all devices and that should be a guide of how big u want that power supply.
5. read the specs for the motherboard and you'll find out if all those parts are compatible.

Just at a glance, I'd examine the case and PSU.
You want a case with good ventilation, and for that price, I doubt that's a great case - but pictures would help. You want one with cable management space too.
And your PSU will likely not support a decent GPU.
Not to be a jerk - but I built my first computer recently and unless this post is weird spam, I recommend you do research until you understand what you're doing.

I've done some research on the compability of CPU, MB and RAM and they seems to be compatible, it has (by the asrock site specs)
- 1 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot (PCIE1 @ x16 mode)
- 1 x PCI Express 2.0 x1 slot
- 1 x PCI slot
for a new graphic card, but in my opinion, looking at the card, put a nice 2 slot graphic card would be a problem because of the space.
For the HD its ok, the MB has 6 SATA ports so fully compatible. As Pennycake said, the PSU should be more powerfull if u need a decent graphic card, otherwise for the combination u wrote it would be perfect.
Like others have pointed out this is not the place for this post we are a mobile device developers forum not a computer help website, please use the off topic area
It is compatible
Although of the off topic area might be better suited to this, I'll answer it anyway. So the main components that you need to worry about, the CPU and the motherboard, are both compatible. Be careful though, I have AMD processors can be quite easy to burn out if the processor isn't inserted correctly. Everything else should be fine. Don't be too concerned about heat with that case, you are powering a dedicated graphics card and by the time you do I don't think you will be aiming for a demanding high end one anyway. Cheap power supplies can be issue, so you be wary of any sudden shut downs, as it could be that in the future. Other than that good luck with your first PC build. Every one after this will be a breeze.
Oh before I forget, make sure that you have Sata cables for the hard drive, they usually come with the motherboard, but that isn't always the case.
i recommnd u 2buy cheaper ones,..

Cheaper what? I am not sure they could go much cheaper.
Yea make sure the motherboard socket size matches the cup, everything else is pretty cross compatible. You don't want to order the wrong cpu and be like aw grits I ordered the wrong part and wait another week.
The cpu and the motherboards socket definitely marry up, so that isn't an issue. Like I said though, be very careful with installing AMD cpus.

[Q] Surface 2 RT - best microSD card?

Hello Together,
I just bought the Surface 2 (RT) and wanted to extend my storage with an 64gb microSD Card.
Since I checked the Internet & Stores I could not get any answer on which is the most sufficient one.
- whats the maximum read/write speed of the Surface 2 ?
- should i buy an microSD card with 30MBit/s read or is it woth to buy a much more expensive with 70/80MBit/s ??
looking forward to your advise,
thanks & cheers
Only the Surface Pro2 has a microSDXC Card reader, so i think 30 MB/s is the max for Surface 2...

hi mgoth, i don't know why fredpopanto said that because even my Surface RT has microsdxc support, i use a kingston class 10 card and works fine

I would buy the fastest so it will work best in any new device you may own
SDXC and SDHC require the same hardware. Only change is drivers, windows has full SDXC driver support.

Lenovo n308 android all in one

Just purchased this device. It is a 19.5 inch hybrid tablet/desktop android computer running 4.2.2. It uses a Tegra 4 chip and has 2gb ram, 8gb emmc and a 320gb hard drive. I really like this device but one drawback is its 8gb emmc. I would like to move apps to the hdd. As far as I know the only way to do that is by rooting it. If anyone could assist me with this process I would greatly appreciate it.

Does anyone know where to buy an ASUS FonePad 8 16GB ROM & 2GB RAM?

I'm a contract IT worker and I carry a lot of things around, so combining my tablet and phone into one would be great. I currently use another 8" Tab and an LG G2 (along with my laptop, and other cables and external adapters for hard drives, etc) but I'd obviously like to consolidate both to the FonePad 8. However, I'm having a very hard time trying to locate the variation that has 2GB of RAM and was wondering if someone knew of a store that sold them either in the U.S. or directly out of Taiwan. I see a lot of 8GB ROM 1GB RAM versions on ebay, but that's it. My wife has the Lenovo S8-50 2GB RAM with similar specs to the Fonepad 8 and it runs fantastically with the BayTrail Atom. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
