If you already on 4.3 you CAN NOT down grade, will brick your phone. You stuck with 4.3...

That is what I was thinking just making sure before I tried it

You still can root your 4.3 with saferoot.
We also have safestrap to work around the 4.3 locked bootloader, but I'm not recommend it yet, cause it's not yet stable.

Without the updated recoveries you'll just boot into an Asus logo.

It does but will show you as custom on reboots and starts of the phone.

I too can confirm it works.
I can confirm it works. Just did it this morning. I believe it kept my unlocked bootlader too, kinda hard to tell though. The custom sign doesn't show up on startup

Your two options are to use Odin and flash a recovery or use casual. If you have not used Odin before then casual it's more fool proof. If you want to stay true to Samsung root then do the Odin.

OK cool I can do that my boot loader needs to be unlocked to flash CWM through Odin otherwise it will brick my device I used official phone rebels rooting method last time I rooted not sure it would work this time since I'm not on the other boot loader anymore

[Q] need help with updating the bootloader

ive been looking around for information about updating the bootloader in my S3....its unlocked but it doesn't seem to want to flash the latest roms and from what ive been reading it seems the bootloader is the issue
any help would be appreciated
Um you can't update the bootloader on the S3. Maybe you meant recovery? Certain recoveries in the past had issues flashing stuff. Go grab GooManager and update TWRP using that app. Maybe that will fix your issue.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
You can update the bootloader, can you link the thread that suggests that? Usually it isn't needed to run custom roms.

If you want to downgrade you need to unlock your bootloader which isn't possible on the 4.3 update.
Just curious, anyone that was successful on the NC1 update see the counter get tripped?

Please forgive my ignorance, but if you're running 4.4 can one unlock the bootloader after running towelroot?
I'm currently on 4.3 and rooted. I've been holding off on upgrading to 4.4 because I didn't want to lose root. I would ultimately like to try a custom firmware.

KitKat is not available for the Verizon S3. As of this moment, one can not unlock the bootloader on the Verizon S3 once you're on 4.3.

I have been prompted with an OTA update recently. I have used Titanium Backup to prevent the install so I could maintain root. I'm currently on 4.3, so I assumed it was 4.4. My mistake.

It's all good. If you are already on VRUCML1 OTA, then the prompt is an update to VRUCNC1 4.3 OTA. Now, if you are already on VRUCNC1 4.3, then we are onto something.

Been putting off NC1 until I could either set up rootkeeper or a new root method emerged. I just installed NC1 and was able to root with towelroot.
