What is a good brand of screen protector? - Nexus 4 Accessories

I've gone through many screen protectors it's annoying. I had Xtremeguard, which ended up peeling off. I bought it again, in hopes of a different batch, but it kept peeling off! Then I tried Tech armor, which also peeled off! I have a crappy $2 white TPU case from eBay, but I'm thinking of buying the Ionic Guardian. (Please give me your opinion on this case, does it add any bulk? That's my main objective with cases) But the brands I'm considering to buy as a screen protector are SEIDIO, Spiget, iSmooth, Skinomi, Sir Lancelot (as a tampered glass, are these effective at all?) and Armorsuit. Oh, and I'm trying to stay under $30, Thanks for all the help!

ismooth is one of the best, their lifetime warranty and they stand behind it. Ive gotten replacements even if i dont really need them. Have had ismooth since when i had the gs3 that was about 2yrs ago now have it on n4 and coulnt be happier.

Ghost armor work well for me. I beat the hell out of my phone but my screen always stays nice.. There lifetime warranty as well.

The setup I use comes in at around £10 pounds (u.k) I like to do things on the cheap.
It includes a cheap tempted glass screen protector and a good quality case for the price.
You need a case that covers the phones edge to stop your fingers catching the sharp edge of the glass screen protector it also helps to keep it flush and stops dust/dirt getting under the glass.

I ended up buying this one since it's only $8! Does it ever peel back and have you had it for a bit?

I bought http://www.ultimateshield.co.uk i havent installed yet because i'm going home in a few days il report back.

I had a Skinomi until recently. Sadly, it wasn't compatible with the Seidio case I just got, and had to ditch it. I will be trying he Siedio skin that came with my case this weekend and report how it compares.
Will be hard to beat the Skinomi tho, I really liked that one.

I'm using the Spigen SGP Steinheil SP. It fits well and is easy to apply, and has protected my screen for 1 year with no scratches

Sorry its took a while just seen the post.
The screen savour doesn't lift because its a smaller diameter then the screen by a good 3 mm . That's why a case that comes to the edge of the screen is really needed but when on with the case it looks o.k. . If I can find a decent camera I will post a few shots if you haven't already got yours.

I'm using 3m Vikuity protection for a couple of months and NO problems with these kind of screen/back protectors. I was having also cheap versions and finaly the quality Vs money definetly goes to known brands !!

Spigen Ultra Crystal, compatible with any bumpers/case protectors since the design of the edges doesnt interfere with em.

Steinheil Ultra Series Screen Protectors

Steinheil has their Ultra-Clear screen protectors available for the DROID Charge. I just ordered one and I'm hoping it works out better than the ZAGG Invisibleshield did on my Fascinate. See here
I put their incredible shield plus the ultracrystal screen protector on my Fascinate, and absolutely love it. The tacky feeling around the phone is nice for grip (especially with games) but still can slide in my pocket. And of course, the screen protector itself is smooth as glass.
Nice to see it coming out so soon for the Charge, it was weeks before the Fascinate's was available.
I swear by Steinheil. I love the way they glide onto the surface, no hassle and no bubbles.
Which version have people tested? I see they have 3 types.

I got the ultra-crystal as I didn't want any distortion to the screen and don't really care about fingerprints as they can always be wiped off.
I know I'm double posting, but I wanted to bump this to share. I got my screen protector in the mail yesterday afternoon and was able to put it on my phone last night. The ultra-crystal protectors are THICK, much thicker than I was expecting. Installation was fairly simple, didn't have to turn my phone off or anything, which is nice coming from ZAGG. There is no distortion to the screen at all, and you can barely tell that I even have a screen protector on it. I unfortunately got a small piece of dust that I can't get off at the bottom edge and that is the only place you can really see that something is covering the screen. Will see how it holds up over the next week or two, now that I'll be a little less careful since the screen won't get scratched.

I love it too, and the areas that weren't fully pressed down due to what I thought was dust disappeared, so I guess it just took a little time to fully fasten itself. The fit is almost 100% matched to the glass, so you really have to look to see that it's even there.
Looks like they are temporarily out of the Ultra Crystal. I was going to pull the trigger and that option is gone...
Edit:Well, it looks like the full-body shields ship with the UC screen protector, if you wanted full coverage.
Quick question: do these shields cover or interfere with the front-facing camera? From the illustrations, it looks like the shield covers the front camera.

It covers the camera, but the protector is completely clear, and although I haven't taken any pictures with the FFC, the image displayed on the screen when using it doesn't show any distortion.

They're sold out of their stock on sgpstore.com but I grabbed one off Amazon (sold by SGP Store, stocked by Amazon) yesterday with free shipping (got a compatible HDMI cable and TPU case with it to make $25) and it shipped today. They're only showing a couple left in stock then good luck finding one until they make more of them.

Where was that?! I just spent a good twenty minutes looking on Amazon for it and didn't see it anywhere...are these really worth the price? I assume yes, given the reaction you all have to Steinheil's products, but thought I'd ask.
I got the ultra crystal. I can barely tell it's there. Lots of finger prints... but I don't mind too much.
How does Steinheil compare to Bodyguardz, Zaggs, BSE, or clean protector?
I ask cuz I'm looking for full body protector? Plus does anyone have discount codes?
If you can wait a week or so just get some decent cheap ones off ebay like these
http://cgi.ebay.com/5-CLEAR-Screen-...238019?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3a66966f03
I ended up ordering some of the ultra crystal from amazon and am very impressed.
I am less impressed with my skills, I managed to get a little piece of dust on my second attempt to apply... but other than that the thing is perfect, and my dust ended up being in a corner so i didn't want to waste another protector.
Definitely worth the money, all other protectors "ruin" the screen for me, its such a nice screen, but it still needs protection.
I had a good experience with Zagg, but hated the rubbery feel. So, I was looking into getting a Steinheil protector.
Any stores carry these like Best Buy does Zagg? Or is it online only?
I bought the cheap 3 pack from Verizon to hold me over and ugh. Super clear, but bubbles on the edges are almost impossible to prevent. I love the texture better than zagg, but there is some glare outdoors.
Is it possible to get these cheap ones on with the edges coming up? I ask because I don't think I ever seen a phone without the bubbles on the edges.

Ghost Armor?

I've never used it before, but I've heard good things, which is making me consider buying a full body protector. My question is this: who's used one, who's going to be getting one, or if you're opposed to the thought of it, what would you recommend?

I've used just the screen protector on my Sensation... I liked it immensely better than the Invisible Shield. However, they still don't have them in stock. I have a Skinomi coming from Amazon; that has full body protection as well

Skinomi is probably my next choice, I'm just not too certain. Also, I have a ghost armor in cart from their website, just to make sure they were available.

I would go with best skins ever. Cheaper than skinomi but has less orange Peel effect and arguably just as good

Don't you guys like XtremeGuard? Which one would you recommend, XtremeGuard or BSE or Skinomi?
I recommend Armorsuit or XOskins. Armorsuit is available on Amazon and XOskin here. XOskin original price is more expensive but they are good but use 55% off coupon code cybermondayftw on XOskin when you checkout and today is last day for the coupon code. Hope that helps. I have heard people complaining that other screen protectors was missing the cutout for the proximity sensor but XOskin has the cutout so I ordered XOskin. I don't know if Armorsuit has the proximity sensor cutout or not but I know their quality is good because I have used them before too. Hope that helps.
I guess I'll be the odd man out and say I'm really impressed with ghost armor. I used it on my gs2 and my gnex and plan to get it for my n4 also.

I feel the same. Ghost armor feels just like glass and I've never had anything close to the orange peel feel on my nexus one/S/Gnex. I just received my shipment from ghost armor for my nexus 4 and can confirm that the glass feel applies to this phone as well. Going to get it installed at the mall kiosk because I'm so bad at it. I can report back if anyone is interested

Nexus 4 (temporary one since I haven't been to the mall to get the actual one installed)
Defeats the purpose a bit, I know but it's got the TPU case on it and the edges (volume and power button side) cannot be felt, nor is the screen protector affected by the case (unlike my GNex - the POP! case is really tight)

i also have a tpu case on top of my full body ghost armor, but one side is a bit stretched out and wont fit 100%... nothing really noticeable !!
I put ghost armor full coverage on me and my girlfriends phones and she would just toss the phone in her purse and there would be no scratches when we went and got FREE replacements at the ga kiosk there was no scratches on the phone. I'm probably going to order one today... Possible two sets of full body protection

I can vouch for the quality of Ghost Armor. Used these screen protectors for all of my devices. It adds good protection and just the right amount of "resistance" to touch, all while maintaining excellent clarity considering the durability of the material. Good scratch protection and self-heals most of your typical little scratches. I currently have one on my N4, and I am not disappointed at all. The guys and gals at the booth do an outstanding job applying it, and you have a lifetime warranty on it. Can't beat that.
I can also vouch for the quality of ghost armor as well. The camera and proximity sensors are perfectly cut out, and it feels just like glass. It has a wonderful texture and clarity unlike any other screen shield I have used before. I have a tight case on and it doesn't peel at all. Their warranty system is excellent as well, a free replacement if your current one peels/dents (I have yet to experience this). If you do go for the replacement, you may want to bring in your old screen protector if you peeled it off, as the mall stand near me requires that you bring it in order to receive a replacement.
One thing I dislike is that it doesn't cover the curved edges on the right and left sides. I hope they will fix this in an updated version of the skin, but otherwise, to me it is the perfect screen protector.
I also recommend these guys. Outstanding product with a lifetime warranty. I had the screen protector put on my Nexus 7 about a month ago and I am just as happy with it as from day one. Since then I've had my wife take her iPad Mini in for a screen protector as well. Certainly worth the money spent, although I can't vouch for the skins.

My $0.02 comparison of Skinomi and XtremeGuard

So, I've had my N4 since the beginning of December and since then I've gone back and forth between the two skins. I've been using the XtremeGuard skin for about a month now. Before that I was using the Skinomi full body protector, even the sides. Both were wet applications, but the Skinomi came with its own spray bottle and applicator tools. The XtremeGuard came came in an envelope and instructions only: Basically, put drop of dishwashing soap in a small bowl of water, then dunk the skin and apply on the phone. The end result was a great fit, but.... the skin ended up being too sticky for my own taste. The price was unbelievable cheap. I just couldn't get away from the stickyness and of course the extreme orange-peel effect. But, I had already purchased a second set as a "backup" just in case I needed a set. Like I said, it was very cheap, like almost $9, shipped.
Now, the Skinomi was much more pricier, but I'm sure it was worth it. Like I said, a spray bottle, squeege, and large black felt wipe with the Skinomi logo. The front and back application was a breeze, like most front and back screen protector applications. The little trick to get the skin to stay down over the edges, or curved corners for that matter is the same: to get the curved sides and corners to stick down you have to wait a few minutes for the skin that is going to touch the screen/phone to dry up a bit. It needs to become sticky in order to stay down. I wait another minute or two and keep trying to keep the edges down. Eventually the skin stays down on the curved edges. For the front skin, I lined up the top perfectly, and the bottom is a little over 1 mm from completely covering the front. The back is even a better fit, less than 1 mm missing from all four edges. Really great coverage. Now the sides, eh, it's a ***** to get the curved corners. The pieces are long to apply and keep slipping. Eventually I got the corners to stay down, but over time from using the phone the corners would start to come up and then collect lint. I think I've given up on protecting the sides and corners that I just ordered the stock bumper and will use that to protect the edges before they get more dinged. Now that it's been 24 hours, WOW! I am very impressed. I can barely feel that there is a skin on top. Yes, it feels a little stick, but I have to put emphasis on "little". It's nowhere near sticky as the Xtreme. And the finish! WOW! The only problem is my oily fingers. I guess that's what the skinomi wipe is for?
That just my 2 cents. oh, btw, the Skinomi was very very little orange-peel look, and it's almost like a mirror. The best skin I've ever used so far (Xtreme, Skinomi, and Zagg).
Had an extreme guard on my s3, didn't like it just like you mentioned, it felt "sticky".... But it is very durable. Also don't like the wet application.

I didn't know. Please forgive me. I didn't know. I was lured in by the cheap price, but I've seen the light!
Just ordered the skinomi one.. I also debated to order XtremeGuard but saw the reviews weren't so good.
I'm going to try and take a different approach and try to let the sides heal and for all the bubbling and haze to subside, then I will put my bumper on, hopefully that should eliminate the issue of the edges raising up?
I bought a Skintomi way back for my Galaxy Nexus just randomly because I was having so much trouble sorting out which brand was worth anything from all the conflicting reviews, and boy am I glad I did. It is still awesome. I liked it so much I ordered the full body model for my Nexus 4. I got a great deal from a guy on ebay, I think the front cover model was like 8 bucks and the full body Nexus 4 model was less than 17.
I have to agree with the stickiness of wet applied screen protectors.
I've only used xtremeguard for for my N4 cuz I didn't really see a need to buy another/ different screen protector afterwards, so can't say anything about the others. For the first couple of days after application (like a week or so), it was almost impossible to push your thumb across the screen (dragging thumb across the screen fared a little better). After a while however it became significantly easier to use the touchscreen because the oil on my finger started to make the screen more slippery, but no where near the slipperiness of a dry install. I can easily swipe on the default keyboard but it could be better.
Right now I'm contemplating whether to spray some dust repellent on the screen protector; playing air hockey on the kitchen table is a breeze after spraying some.
Just my $0.02
N4 skinomi are hit and miss. The sides do not stick very well and lift up easy. The solutions tends to leave large bubble markings between the screen and the skin. After a month, the skin has lots of scar indentations, like worms or ants traveling in sand leaving trails. Much like those you create when pressing down too hard when applying the skin with the squeegee. Any cover or case that touches the top will lift push or cause the skin to bubble.
I've use skinomi on several devices, first one that's not "good". Same results on 3 replacements. Gonna try another brand.
I've used xtremeguard on other devices and they've worked well too. Loved it on my s3 . After some cure time it's not as sticky as when applied. But black specs in envelope and lately the material of the skin has changed. So it's quality has been randomly lacking.

No, brand should not matter, but quality does. There is a list of personal requirements that I have and Skinomi (so far) meets those requirements, whereas others do not. That's not to say a cheaper cost product is better or as good. I have yet to try Zagg for my N4, but I have used the Zagg HD in the past. I want to try out BSE see how well that works.

Yeah of course we do. Different brands make a huge difference. Spend the 8 bucks on a Skintomi from ebay and try it for a few weeks and you'll see what we mean.
I ordered some skins from xtreme guard, the lower prices got me too, shipping to canada was around $3 which is awesome . Still waiting to get them so I have no reviews yet. Used BSE before, I think they are great, but getting so expensive. now buying for a 3rd phone (waiting for 2nd rma).

[POLL] What's the best kind of screen protector and case?

I've bee reading some of the other forums on here, and I am having a hard time choosing what screen protector and case to use (which is a good thing, I guess). I am trying to decide between Zagg, Ghost Armor, and the Spigen Glas.t (do I get the SLIM or tR). Which one of these is best? Do they all protect the phone from scratches and drops about the same?
As far as cases go, whats the best case? I've been looking at the Otterbox Commuter and was dead set on getting it until I saw the Spigen Neo Hybrid case. Will they both protect the phone from slight drops? If you have the Spigen, are the sides raised over the edges of the screen and the camera, as to protect it?
I tried Ghost Armor. was not happy with it. Sure it protected nicely and it is nearly indestructible but I found it tended to embed bits of dust that would not come out no matter what I did to clean it.
Today I have a cheap matte protector that cost me about $5 IS on Amazon. Also picked up a TPU case and a hard case.
I always preferred a generic TPU case for my devices... adds very little bulk, makes them easier to grip (less slippage), and better protection than naked...
I am not a fan of those huge, multi-layered monster cases.
Zagg + Otterbox (Commuter) for me. I picked the Zagg because that's the only screen protector Best Buy had and I had to get one right when I got my phone so I can always claim it's had one on for 100% of it's life. Maybe an OCD thing, I don't know.
And right now, Otterbox is the only brand I trust. My Galaxy Nexus was in a Diztronic and cracked from a ~2 foot drop onto concrete. That's probably reasonable, and definitely falls under the category of user error, but it would not have broken with an Otterbox. That's a fact.

I've got a neo hybrid case and ghost armor screen protector. I had GA on my S3. I like the feel of the GA protector, the professional install, and the fact that it has the lifetime warranty. If it even LOOKS like its peeling, I run to the mall and get it replaced.

I bought a spigen for my Xperia z and it didn't let the proximity sensor work right. You'd get off a call and the screen wouldn't turn back on. Tried to take it off and it cracked. It was pretty thick, not sure if that was the reason but I'll steer clear of one till I know for sure. Especially with the hover features of this phone.

The dualtek or Neohybrid? Have you gotten the case yet? I'm probably gonna buy one of those cases.
Edit: I just saw that the case was shipping from Hong Kong. I'm worried it may be some knock off fake item. That's just me though.
For me sgp neo hybrid and screen protector I picked up at the ATT for 10 bucks. I always buy sgp screen protectors but I figured I would just use these till I need a change then I'll pickup dome sgp screen protectors down the road

Has anyone heard of the BodyGuradz Pure Screen Protector?
http://www.bodyguardz.com/screenguardz-pure-glass-screen-protector-for-samsung-galaxy-s-4-iv.html
It looks like this may top my list! I read a CNET review where the reviewers daughter dropped her iPhone from like 6 feet and only the screen protector had a tiny crack in the corner! But you get cheap replacements!

whitestone worth the premium?

I'm looking around for a tempered glass with decent touch responsiveness. do we know much about how well WSD will protect the screen vs other protectors? it costs quite a pretty penny. i was wondering if any of you had experience with cheaper ones that'll offer the same level of protection? this one (https://www.amazon.com/LK-Protector...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=YX5Y8Z1JQ3BMGQX5XTF8) is quite highly rated at amazon and has a fakespot rating of A. anyone tried it out?

The link you provided is a product that only has adhesive on the sides, don't waste your time there will be an air gap and the screen responsiveness will be garbage. Like you said those reviews are fake and you would be wasting your time and money if purchased. Yes the WhiteStone dome is expensive, but you get what you pay for. I have had mine installed since Launch and not a single issue, it looks and feels like there isn't even a screen protector installed. For a product that could potentially save your phone from breaking, why skimp out? Would you buy cheaper tires on your car that are much more likely to fail? No.
I do believe that the Whitestone is worth the price.
I have been using tempered glass screen protectors for a few years now and the Whitestone is much easier to install, bacause of the jig that comes with it.
I have installed the Whitestone on two Note 9s. One for the wife and mine.
The only issue I have is a minor one. It seems a bit of excess glue is around the edges and atractslint from my pocket.
The coverage and feel is awesome.
Once you buy the full kit that includes the UV light, only the replacement kit is needed for any other install or phone. The replacement kit comes with the jig, but not the UV light.
I refrained from purchasing a phon ewith a curved screen until this type of screen protector was available. I refused to deal with the ege only attached protectors.
It is a bit pricey, but I highly recommend it. After all, you are protecting a thousand dollar phone. Twice what I've ever paid for a phone.
My experience with the whitestone: It is ok if you dont mind the sharp edges when you swipe from the sides. In my case, air bubbles started to appear at the right edge. Whitestone sent me one replacement which I am trying to sell, because I don't see it working in my case.
Pros:
Clear;
Sensitive;
Warranty (although you have to pay for shipping);
Cons:
Sharp edges;
Air bubbles appear at the edges after some time, 2 months in my case;
The adhesive left exposed at the sides attracts dust/lint;
how do you get the glue off when removing? I bought a twin pack but the first is quite scratched

The glue is attached to the glass, not your phone. Once you begin peeling the screen protector off you will notice the glue is only on the screen protector and your phone is left clean.
does the whitestone dome work with the Note 9 included case? as im fairly happy with the included case for now, but i wanna get the dome screen protector if its compatible.
What is the included case? In my country there is no included case, but it is compatible with the samsung silicone case.

Oh what?! I didn't realise that. Well in Australia it comes with a clear rubber/silicone type case inside the box. I believe it's the same one samsung sell on their accessories page. So I guess it'll be compatible then, sounds like the same one you're talking about. Thanks

I think it's worth the premium. Been using it since S7 days and installed, I think 7, on friends/family phones. Killed itself for 3 displays from drops so far.

A benefit of the vast research, conducted for the purchase of A Note 9 for the wife. Thru that and setting it up for her, I was so impressed that I got a Note 9 for myself. The 8/512 version, of course.
My first non rootable phone in about 6 years.
I am digging it!

I was really hesitant on spending $40 on a 2 pack of tempered glass. But after biting the bullet i couldn't be happier with the glass. It fits and feels great. Doesnt disrupt the touch sensitivity and keeps the premium feel of the phone. I hated that the cheap ones that only have adhesive on the sides and dot matrix on screen made the phone feel super cheap because it felt like you were touching a plastic screen.

be careful, however, if the phone falls and hits the glass film, it does not protect the display and breaks, it happened to me on note 8.
In other words, it protects only from the graff.

No tempered glass is going to protect your screen from cracking. It helps but doesn't prevent it if the hit/drop is right.

If you want a tempered glass screen protector then the only option that works well (IMO) is the Whitestone Dome. The issue is (and I've tried many times) with Whitestone Dome is that the sides of your screen protector may get tiny bubbles even after you think the install was perfect. Mine showed up after a day and spread to the enter left and right side of the protector.
