[Q] Battery percentage remains unchanged - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
After updating my French Moto G to Kitkat my battery percentage remains unchanged at 99%.
Anyone has experienced a similar bug? What can I do to fix this?
Thanks

Had the exat same problem with my two Moto G's I ordered from Amazon.de. It seems to happen to some people after the update.
Calm down, no panic. Both of my phones still work flawlessly and battery life is same as before if not better.
So how did I fix it? I factory reseted the Moto G (probably not necessary) and then I let the battery drain to dead (from whatever % it had until it shut down). Most comfortable way to do this is probably playing, streaming videos as I did.
Somehow the update messed around with the battery calibration.
I hope I've helped you

[Q] Strange battery life issue - screen using 130%?

I took my Shield Tablet (stock 5.0/rooted) off the charger at around 8 am today starting at 100% (charged while completely off), and at 11am I noticed it was at 49%. I'd only done some mild gaming (Terra Battle), and Comixology reading, so it struck me as a little low, but what confused me more was the battery stats page. Screen shows at 130%, System at 10% and everything else in single digits.
Anyone know what's going on here and how to fix it? I've rebooted and will be watching out for whether it happens again, but would be happy about feedback from anyone who's experienced a similar issue. Thanks in Advance!
Since you are rooted you should use an app like Better Battery Stats to log what is going on.
This way you can identify which app is causing the drain and take measures to prevent it.
Known cause in quite some cases is Facebook after applying the ota to 5.0.
Solution is to remove the facebook app, do a factory reset and install the app fresh from playstore.
Thanks for the reply. I don't and never had the Facebook app installed (shocking, I know ) so that can't be the issue.
I've installed Better Battery Stats so I'll see if I can figure anything out through it...
My guess is that the screen has used 130% of the batteries capacity. If you look at the bottom of the graph it says stats since last full charge. I gave my niece my old first gen nexus 7 with lollipop and a few days later looked at the battery stats. Her screen was listed as 160%. It hadn't been fully charged since I gave it to her. The screen brightness was maxed out and she tends to leave it on the ground with a video playing. The screen obviously uses a lot of power so its not hard to imagine it was over 1.5 times the batteries capacity.

Full charge at 96 percent?

Hello community,
So, I've got myself a Nexus 5.
Problem (?):
When I'm charging my N5 and the battery indicator reaches 96%, the charging led goes green, indicating that it's fully charged. It doesn't STOP to charge at 96% like to prevent overcharging, it just shows green led at 96% and continues to charge to 100%. It thought the problem may be the stock kernel that comes with Cataclysm ROM, so I've flashed ElementalX kernel (Without wiping anything, do I have to wipe?) and the problem's still there.
Is that behavior normal?
Here are details about my phone:
Cataclysm ROM, 5.1.1 (Jun 20, 2015, stable build)
ElementalX Kernel, latest version for 5.1.1 (4.04)
I got my N5 one or two months ago, I rooted immediately but I believe it had this issue right out of the box. And I'm using the stock wall charger & usb cable which I received with my N5.
Thanks to anyone trying to help me.
Regards
I remember a Marques Brownlee Youtube video where he was talking about Li-On battery overcharging - they don't apparently, since there is circuitry in the battery to regulate the charging. From memory, he described it as a sort of "bounce" effect, where the charging gets close to 100%, cuts out, then says "Maybe a bit more" and starts again - and it may do that a number of times. So I reckon that this behaviour is what you're seeing, and you don't have any problem.

Thank your for your reply
Now I know that everything's behaving normal. I almost thought that I have to replace the battery - and it's non removeable, so that would be a hard nut for me to crack, even with the right tools.
Last question, if I would replace my current N5 battery with another (original) battery, would the 'problem' vanish? Now I know, everything's OK.. but I'm a sorta perfectionist when it comes to devices. In other words, is that behavior related to the battery?
Here's the Marques Brownlee video I mentioned: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrcbcm11830
So the answer to your question is: no, a new battery will (most likely) make no difference at all - a lot of trouble, risk and expense for nothing. I leave my phone on a charging pad every night, on a timer switching off around 03:00, and it's usually around 95-97% in the morning. Like you, I'd much prefer 100%, but I've learned to live with it, especially as my Nexus 6 very rarely drops below 50% during the day - I'm a light user.
And a word of warning to anyone reading this. We tend to go looking for solutions to problems we've already suffered, when it can be too late. I managed a few months ago to drain my Nexus 5 battery down to zero, and when I recharged it the radio was stone dead - no SIM recognised, no data service (but wifi ok), no phone calls, no texts. There are many people reporting the same thing, so beware:
DON'T LET YOUR NEXUS 5 BATTERY DRAIN TO ZERO!!!

There is no need for you to replace your battery - the percentage issue might be solved with a simple battery calibration.
But just to answer your question, the hardest part when replacing the battery is getting the old one out since it's glued in pretty hard.

Can you please forward me to some sort of instructions of how to calibrate properly? Can't find anything but the batterystats.bin hoax.
Anyone?

disccharge from 100% until your phone shuts down, then charge it to 100% while it is off
As far as I know, this issue is software side, not hardware. Have you ever encountered this problem before ? On my ROM (which is SAOSP), the LED started turning green at 95%. This could also mean that the green LED is set to appear at 95% - 96% charge.

Yes, I've thought about that too. The LED could be the problem. Is there some sort of workaround for this?
And no, I'm encountering this for the first time. I've rooted and flashed Cataclysm ROM right after I unpacked my N5, so I don't know if the problem was on stock too.
Unbenannt, I would say that you need to stop looking at this as a problem - it doesn't seem to be one. You'll spend a lot of time and energy on this (you already have...) and the concensus seems to be that it's not worth the trouble. If you run down your battery you risk bricking the radio (and I know that GtrCraft is saying only until the phone shuts down, not drained to zero) but really, why take the risk of damaging a beautiful device for such a minor reason?

did you said charging LED ? wooh I've been using this device for 2-3 months and never seen LED blink when full charged !!
you are using any app or something for that ? bcz i'm on stock and i can't see any option to turn it on and No charging light for me at all !
does all people see it on stock ?!

I'm running a custom ROM (Cataclysm), so that's probably why.

Oh..i thought you were fully stock before flashing custom kernel.

G2 Battery discharge while off !

So, my beautiful white LG G2 is on the amazing Dorimanx Kernel (version doesn't matter-i've gone through all since V.2 until now V9-it doesn't change anything about my problem) + Cloudy G2 3.3.
As the title says, the battery discharges alone about 30-40% per night while the phone is OFF (just to be clear: not sleep, not standby, but OFF, the state from which I can turn it on only by holding the ON\OFF button for 2-3 sec). While awake (screen on or off ) the battery is normal (not better or worse than my XSP,XZ1c, Flex 2, or s6edge+). It's been like that since i bought it over a year ago.So yes, it did the same on Stock Kitkat 4.4..It came with total EMPTY battery in the box (had to connect to wall charger 2-3 Min just so it could show me battery 0-1% charging).
NOW, I know what you are all thinking: ''faulty battery'', ''change the battery, man!'' -that's what I thought too (although that still wouldn't explain the NORMAL ScreenOnTime I am geting). Nevertheless, 2 Weeks ago I ordered a new battery from here: http://www.ebay.de/itm/PRODUKTION-0...761107?hash=item1a052995d3:g:9lsAAOSwgQ9V328T and CHANGED it myself (I even received a newer one than in the picture: September 2015)..SOO ?? Well, after calibrating the new battery (the first day or so it shows strange values), I can say: the ScreenOnTime is even better than with the old Battery...But the ''turned-off time'' still sucks.. I made a screenshot so you can see what I always see after a few ''turned-off'' hours..
I never heard or read about something like that anywhere, so it's not likely that I'll get a solution anytime soon , but I still wanted to hear your opinions and suggestions..
Thank you guys! (and girls..who knows?)
I think it's a circuit shortcut on phones board that do this. But to be really sure i would flash a kdz and do all that root stuff again.
And you surely have no battery calibration in any boot script when turning phone on from off state?

Dorimanx has also confirmed (I asked in his thread also) that it's a short circuit.. It doesn't matter what stock \Rom\Kernel ..it's always been like this..
thanks for answer..

Dies at 20 percent, charge for 5 mins, turns on again is 29%

So my Moto X dies at ~20% charge, which is bad, but not entirely surprising for an 18 month old phone (despite the fact that I rarely use it, which is disappointing and continues to reiterate my point that Motorola QA, before or after Lenovo, sucks). The strange thing is that if I plug it in then, the charging screen on the screen off shows 1%, then 2%. If i turn it on then, the boot is normal, then on lock screen, it shows 25-29%. Any fixes?
try calibrate battery, it happend to me a lot of times and after calibrate doesnt happend, only when i change rom
Update, phone is now being very wonky. See graph for details:
I have the same issue
Same problem here. Xt1097, started 3 months ago. Already wiped battery, delete files, completed charged and discharged. Nothing works. I was running stock when first happened, I changed to custom and the problem persists.
Mine does the same, except at around 14%. XT1095
Same here (xt1097), around 10%. Already tried to calibrate without any success.
Any thoughs on this ?
Same issue here at about 15%. Pretty annoying. Is there any way to adjust the kernel to adjust shutoff voltage or adjust battery so is shows 15% as 0%?
Reporting on the same problem, I'm running CM13

The battery is dying.
Usually iphones and samsung phones have the same issue.
Change the battery. Is the only solution(99% of the time).

I am afraid you are right... I also have this problem, but not allways and it is very annoying. Do you know where to get a new reliable battery? I also live in italy. In the pass I bought a cheap battery for moto x 2013, but it doesn't charge

Guardalo su eBay http://www.ebay.it/itm/172111017544
Look for original bulk xt1092 batteries
The battery is dying. There's no software capable of fixing this. Replace it.
I solved the problem with a clean instal of stock rom and take the OTAs. I used the phone without root for some days and I completely discharge it, when it shut down I recharged the phone keeping it powered off , when it was charged I turned on the phone and then rebooted it, then I unplugged the phone (I did a battery calibration). After some days I rooted again (latest supersu in systemless mode) and flashed xposed (systemless version 86.2), but I didn't restore all my xposed and rooted crap. Battery life is still quite poor, but the phone didn't shut down at random percentage... I don't know if the issue was caused by some app or root method, maybe restoring stock rom helped, before doing all this stuff I tried just to calibrate battery but didn't solve the problem.
I know it's not really a solution, but I found that activating the system battery saver around 20% helps getting down to 10% without the thing turning off. I haven't tested below that yet.

I don't think so, I recently send my moto x to Motorola because it was damaged and they send a brand new moto x and it has exactly the same problem.

That's sad to hear.
Battery dying fix
1. Shut down Moto
2. Hold volume down and power button
3. Clear dalvik cache
4. Let it charge to 100%

S7 Battery Drain? Or Potentially Another Problem?

So my sister upgraded her phone and gave me her old Galaxy S7. It has a problem, when left idle, it will drain its battery to 0%, essentially shutting itself down. But I tried watching a 50 minute video on it and it lost 20%. So theoretically, it should have about 4 hrs of video playback capacity.
So my question is, will replacing the battery solve this problem? Or could the problem be something else? Cause I really don't wanna go out and buy a new battery for this, without being certain first.
Thank you all for your responses!

If the phone is working normally, the possible reason is battery or a bug in a management service of the battery. Make e full backup, do a factory reset and see again.

My sister had this problem before she handed this phone to me. I reformatted it as soon as I got it.
So do you think that replacing the battery will really solve this?

Turn Airplane mode on the phone and leave to for a couple of hours. Then check it again.
