Nexus 5 doesnt detect SIM!!! :( - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay so I got my device (32GB,White) just one day ago , and it refuses to detect the sim. I had an airtel(india) sim which was cut into a micro sim . Are there any settings which I need to change to make it work ?
uploading the pic of the sim... Is this the proper micro sim or is it ruined ??

Have you tried any other Sims to see if that one was messed up.mine had a hard time picking up the one out if my s4

I put this SIM into another phone and its working quite well. But I havent tried any other micro sims on the Nexus yet....

Maybe any locking on some card from provider ?
Is the card coming out of a contract?

The nexus 5 is very picky on cut Sims go get a micro Sim from your provider I cut my full size T-Mobile Sim and it didn't recognize it at all I got the micro Sim from them and now it works

Also one note is the nexus 5 has different contact points for the sim inside the tray so your cut Sim won't work while another phone might as its got the same contact patterns
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

attached is my sim and your sim compared
as you see your bezel on the end is shorter and the contact points in the center are differently placed

are you sure its not recognizing the sim card?
try this
1.remove the sim card while the phone is on. if youl see notification that telling you that there is no sim card and restart, then its recognize the card and problem is somewhere else
2.go to settings
under wireless&networks=>More..=>MobileNetworks=>Network operators
wait until the phone will find all the operators and chose yours
if that not working go to next step
3.open SIM TOOLKIT app
Roaming Services=>Select Mode=>and try some of the Manual mods there or the Automatic
now go to step 2 and do it again
hope it will solve your problem

Yessir. I think it the manually cut sim is posing problems. I will ask my operator for a standard micro sim and see if it works. You help is much appreciated.

Hmmm, they ARE different. I'm sure the problem is with the alignment of the SIM. the contact points arent aligned at ALL .

I chose the the operator , it spent like 4-5 minutes searching.. and then came "Couldnt connect. Please try again later." I'm sure the problem is with correct contact points.
[Thanks everyone, you help is much appreciated.] I'll keep you guys posted.

I had zero success getting my cut t-mobile SIM to work in the N5. Wound up walking into t-mobile for a micro sim. Took less than a minute and was free. Had I known it was so easy, I wouldn't have wasted $8 on a stupid cutter...

I'll be getting a micro sim from my operator.... took 2 sims from them, cut them both and both failed to work..

So i just switched to an Airtel sim and my nexus 5x doesnt want to detect it.
1) I have tried other sims on my phone and they all work perfect and get detected under milliseconds after inserting.
2) Then, i tried to insert this particular airtel sim to my dad iphone and it does work and also can call from it. So yeah it is active.
3) SO! then i tried inserting my dad's Airtel sim in my Nexus and guess what ? It doesnt get detected.
Conclusion: Nexus 5x is not capable of detecting Airtel sim and so get a vodafone or any other sim card you prefer.

I have the exact same problem with my 5x. I Have an Airtel sim as well. The phone has stopped detecting sim. If I insert a new sim, the phone detects the new sim for a while but then stops detecting again. Though the sim is being detected by all other phone including a different Nexus 5x.
Not sure what is the problem here. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks guys

Absolutely, get the i9502, FTW!!!
this looks crazy awesome
Why would you go through the trouble of posting this video and asking for subscriptions when you do nothing to explain this is depth? Is the software on the phone already set up for this? How does the messaging app handle it? Is there any setup required?
do your phone have to be rooted or not to use it
I have this, 2 sim active, the only problem is it will only support GSM, data is usable, but you need to root or jailbreak for data, gmate promised a 3G version, but this was over a year ago.
[/QUOTE]
Also if people are after a dual sim adapter, instead of paying the high price for the magicsim, go to ebay and get a iphone 4 or iphone 5 version for about 5-7USD, these will also work for android phone, I'm using one right now, no root is needed and supports data.
details on using it, when the dual sim adapter is connected, a icon will show up in the menu, this menu allows you to switch sim.
This is on my note 2, but all android will work.

did you have to trim your sim card to fit the cards. does one card with adapter go in reg slaot and the other into extension or do both go into extension. will the extra stuff with sim inserted into sim slot damage sim slot on phone. looking at this and triple sim adapter for s4 and n3
For the adapter the main sim is the microsim that goes into the phone with one end of the adapter which goes under the microsim, the other end supports a full size sim, I actually have the ipnone 5 version so the size is slightly smaller, you should get the iphone 4 version, the fit into the sim slot on the phone will fit without any problem, as most sim sockets are made slightly thicker, about 0.1-2mm, as sim cards vary in thickness due to manufacture process.
As long as you have one microsim and one full size sim, you are ok, you do not need to alter it in anyway, if you do have different size sims like me, as shown in the photo's you can use sim adapters, data will work with either sim.
The photo's show some close shots of the adapter, even with the adapter in the slot, it is slightly loose, so I have used double sided tape as shown in the photo.

I have the same icon on my 920 since upgrading to ICS I am using a UK T-Mobile [EE] sim card. It does seem to disable certain sim features, [Call forwarding, call barring etc. Tried re-installing ICS and formatting etc but get a "network or sim error" report when trying to activate call forwarding. I bought the phone second hand 3 months ago and found the imei number missing from inside the phone so am not sure if it has been "cloned" or something like that. Perhaps some developer will read this thread and give us some help !

I have same problem exactly. I am in the UK using UK T-Mobile, which is now rebranded EE. I think the fact the sim card is T-Mobile and the Network is now EE is causing the phone software to try and use 2 sim cards. The unusual system icon [the 1 in a white square] is displaying the sim card number1 is in use and connected. Try a friends sim card which has data enabled in your phone and it should clear. If it does you will need to get a sim card from T-Mobile/Orange that works. Please let me know if you get the problem sorted out and I will update you if I get any answers to the problem from T-Mobile UK.
Regards, Keith

Actually, I am in Brazil, but the same thing happens here.
If I put my old SIM card (from the carrier "TIM"), the icon disappears.
But with my new SIM card (carrier "Oi"), the icon appears again.
I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but my old SIM card was a very old mini-SIM model. This new one that doesn't have call forwarding has a micro-SIM-style contact arrangement on a mini-SIM-shaped card.
I would check with my new carrier if I could switch my card, however I never use call forwarding, so I don't suppose it is worth the hassle.
Anyways, thanks for the help.
I believe that means that you are using line 1 had this on one if my windows phone. That is your service provider settings.

hi , this happens mostly when you insert a corrupted sim card .for example you cut it for creating micro sim and didn't do well . please be careful be aware of any pressure and hard action when you are trying to insert sim card .
anyway , you should show issue to a expert shopper to look accurately .

The HTC One S did have problems with the SIM card locking in place or something similar. I believe it was just loose and the SIM card couldn't be read. You should try and get a new SIM, if that doesn't work it is your phone.

My son try to help me and cut the sim. End up with broken sim tray and had to replace($89 at shop). Then I got the micro sim from carrier. 2 weeks latter I get the "no sim" message. Had to re-set the sim. Work for next week and happen again. Then I read about the "tape trick". Put 1 or 2 layers of clear tape on back of sim and the problem was gone. 3 months, and still do not have sim problem. I learn that most of the micro sim devices have that problem ( HTC and Samsung).

T-Mobile not working with OPO

Hey everyone thanks for your help in advance... I just bought my phone and went to T-Mobile to get a new micro Sims card. After putting it in, the phone didn't recognize it. I put in the APN settings and it doesn't save it. This really sucks right now because I don't know what else to do. Any help will be greatly appreciated. And my phone isnt rooted yet, just want the stock for now. Thanks again
Is the sim activated? Sometimes on a new sim it takes a few hours to start working.
I was already on Tmo with an N5. I just moved the sim over and all was good.

I screwed up and instead of using my old Sim card and cutting I went into T-Mobile and had them activate a new micro Sim card and put it straight in. The old one is deactivated.
The new micro Sim does work in my old gslaxy S2 phone which used an older big Sim card. Its now using a Sim adapter.

Did you insert the SIM card in the right direction and not upside down? I know thats silly to ask.
to be honest its simple man and actually nothing you needed to make a thread about. Simple go to TMobile store and try an already active sim card. Go to AT&T and see if they can put an active sim card to help you out. Basically go to anywhere that works with a TMobile or AT&T derivative and try it out. Nothing really else we can do to help you on this.
Not try to be rude or anything but its the truth. If none of that works then you may have to RMA. Also maybe find a friend or family member and try their sim . Good luck :good:
Should work. Using my one plus with Solavei (t-mobile based company) and having no issues.

First time i've also put the tray wrong. True story
Just had this problem after coming from using the phone overseas and no signal whatsoever on the phone despite numerous restarts, SIM cleaning, and chats with T mobile. After verifying the APN was correct I went to Settings-->About Phone-->Status-->SIM Status and checked to see if the SIM was connected(it showed my phone number, but was disconnected). So from here went to Settings-->Mobile Networks-->Network Operators and let the phone find carriers automatically. Mine showed T-mobile(with a little SIM icon to the right of it), Verizon, and ATT. I clicked on T-Mobile and it registered and is now working.
Probably saved me $15 at the T-Mobile store. Hope this helps even just one of you.

Help please... Device not detecting Sim 1.

Today I wanted to insert a data sim in first slot but it was not going down. Thinking that there the sim is old. So I went to provider office and bought a new data sim. I inserted the sim without any obstruction but the device is not detecting the sim. I found that there are scratches on one lower end of sim terminals but there are no signs of scratches on the other end. Meaning that the device terminals are not attaching the sim terminals.
Any help would be much appreciated. I can't approach even the service center even if it is present.

I think you should trace the problem and go step by step here.
Since you are using the 1st slot then I am assuming you have a micro sim here.
A good first move would be inserting your friend's sim in the phone. If the sim works, then it could be possible that your sim got damaged for some reason.
If both are still not working, then you need to check for the carrier.
Maybe the phone is not fully unlocked, which means it will not work with some carriers.
Hope that helps

Secondly the same phone was having good data connection with the same carrier.

What you are talking about? This was posted before the other post you have seen. I am the best keeper of any phone. But this was very unfortunate. I was inserting sim into the sim one tray. It was not going. So I left it. It was an old sim which was cut. I didn't use much force. Then I went and got a new sim and tried again. It went but was no more detected. I took it to the shop, from where I bought it. They sent it to Huawei center. They returned the phone saying that the inside terminals have broken. You have to pay 400 dollars. I refused to pay as I am not insane to do that.
It means that it is very delicate inside. Broken with a mild force.
Now I am using it with sim 2 only.
