[Q] CM9 build 14 Low wifi signal - HTC Pico (Explorer)

Whatssup guys ? I have installed CM9.1 build 14 for HTC Explorer, it's working fine but there's one little problem, my wi-fi signal is low when I'm not close of the router, In the original htc explorer rom I had very good signal . How do I fix this ?

it just displays that way..otherwise speed is same as stock rom.

This commit: https://github.com/sakindia123/android_kernel_htc_pico/commit/9b0f1c0702e210bdbd1a6b9eeca9fba6cce984c8, might be causing it. Try reverting it, and compile a kernel, and test for WiFi range.
Even though it *might* fix it, battery backup might be directly hit.

[Solved] CM7: downgrade from RC1v2 to RC0 due to wifi probs

With CM7 RC1v2 I get serious problems with wifi and minor problems with GPS. Plus Gmaps freezes, even with Setvls tuned. So I tried to revert to RC0 but that gives me bootloops.
My settings: German Froyo base.
My steps: w and w/o cache/dalvik clear. Replaced wifi driver with the one from RC0. Did't work.
I'm on a trip through europe, 5000 km from home. So I can't do big downloads.
Any idea how to solve the problem?
How to downgrade, how to fix wifi/gps?
Thx
honestly, it's urgent. sorry for bumping.
U need to redo every thing to go
Back to rc0 ie flash sbf n all that...
Try to clear cache n davlik cache...
that's all I know.. .
Swyped from my MB525 using XDA Premium App
I found a solution for wifi problem by myself w/o downgrade:
Delete the file /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf and reboot.
Make a backup if you want to recover passwords of your wifi networks. Didn't manage to include old pw in new file but I'm happy.
What kind of problems ins wifi u have?
I'm asking cause i got some problems too, in my case the wifis spots was not showing when wifi turned on, just showing the ones that was saved when i used.
Deleting them solved but temporarily only, cause sometimes i need to put forget in some saved spots that have a big password, then later need to rewrite all the passwords, and its annoying.
Had your problem exactly. Never tried deleting old ones.
strange thins some users (me 2) had problems with the wifi from rc0 maybe its a phone thing or some hardware differences
In my case wifi always disconnects. I only can solve this problem if i reconnect.
But it always happens again.
Should i try the same thing than measel ?
i don't know. but since it's easier then reinstall...maybe it's worth a try. i just found out by trial and error. just be sure to make a backup.
so i deleted this file and it seems to work out for me. Didn't have this problem since then
sorry i was wrong, my problem is still there

Tested this ROM,
It's working well.
Fast & stable
The same big bugs we have in R169 or Munjeni roms: BT , FM radio, video , etc
Problems with Data connection : 3G , etc.
To resolve it i must remove telephony.db in the update directory. It's taking it from the 3g fix but not working for me.
EDIT : When i start wifi and stop it Data connection don't start.
Regards.

DjFastest,
Thanks for this new thread, but now.. could you please write info about it? is that yours? you're developer? or what's the changes had made?
Great verion, really fast and stable !!
No problems with data connections for me
Looks like the "cardsharing version" but the problem I had with that version (big time bug) is not with this version..... ok a small one (8 minutes in 12 hours) but for that I use ClockSync

Same for me: I have the slightly faster time whereas 169 was ok, without being connected to charger. Furthermore no bigdifferences seen.
Ok thank you pwel so there are no big difference
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
differences with R169
My main differences are:
1) time running too fast in this one. Since I don't have data connection and not always wifi, clocksync does not work.
2) battery consumption is less: it takes now longer for the battery to run dead as compared to R169
3) somehow my agenda notifications do not show up when display is off: it seems it is in a deep sleep (maybe that;s why it uses less battery power?)
seems faster than 169. still observing for bugs.

ok, that his version is faster is very good. also the battery goes longer is very good. But problems with 3G connection is a annoying bug

[Q] sms over wifi. wifi calling doesnt work well with ICS

SO, a long time ago, before i started flashing roms on my sensation, I could send/receive SMS over wifi no problem with the wifi app.
Now on IC Sense 4 ICS beta, wifi calling is removed because it doesn't play nice.
Anyone know of a way I can send SMS/MMS over wifi?
Yeah the wifi calling patch. It works perfectly for me, but it has to be the one for ics. If need it have it
See the following thread for more information on WiFi calling for ICS:
ICS Wifi calling
Basically, calling over wifi isn't stable and probably won't be until Tmobile releases an official WiFi calling app for ICS ROMs. In my experience, making phone calls is hit or miss but SMS over wifi works without problems. This is on Hyper NonSense ROMs using the 1.0.2 patch from that thread (non-AOSP version).
Cool, i remember that thread when it got posted, didn't know it got updated.
--Since Baad didn't put wifi calling apk in IC beta, do I need to install an .apk (anyone have latest?) and then flash the fix, or does the fix have everything I need, it didn't quite say that in the thread.
--Will test when I get a chance to play with my phone.

Just flash this via recovery and ur done http://db.tt/sxfQrsXU
Similarly, flashing the 1.0.2 zip from the thread I linked will install everything you need (including the wifi calling app). Calling over wifi is still hit or miss, but sms works fine.

HTC Sensation - GPS problem - CyanogenMod KitKat

Hi Lads!
I'm experiencing problems with my HTC sensation. I've installed newest ROM and gapps from Albinoman887 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2524961). My GPS works just fine if I'm using WiFi or data network, unfortunately I don't have an internet plan so I can only use WiFi when in range. No matter how long I would wait google maps (I've saved offline map) or Garmin/TomTom wont connect with GPS. I've tried to connect it in not urbanised area, were i wasn't surrounded by building or high trees.I was switching between 'device only' and 'assited with WiFi and network data' but since I don't have internet connection I think it makes no difference. I had this problem as well on - cm-10.1-20130610-Albinoman887-pyramid , but as I had internet plan wasn't bothered about that. Did you face similar problem ? Would you know how to fix that issue ?
Phone spec:
HTC Sensation
Android:4.4.2
Baseband ver: 11.69A.3504.00P_11.23..3504.07_M2
Kernel ver: [email protected]ox#1 Sat Jan 18 10:34:02 EST 2014
CyanogenMod ver: cm_pyramid-userdebug 4.4.2 KOT49H 39f88656cd test-keys
here it goes again...
Hi Lads,
I would like to add, that RIL is definitely correct (checked by getRIL app)
i have also amend GPS config files, I can't paste the content of the file, as it contains links to outside sources and I'm new user so I'm attaching configuration file.
unfortunately , nothing has changed
I've got an idea but i might be very stupid (please forgive me my ignorance), but I thought that as GPS was working fine on the stock ROM
maybe I could get it and export files responsible for managing GPS (radio files??) and swap them with existing ones on my system ? Or maybe its not worth ? what do you think lads ? I really hope you can help me out with my problem
best regards
Tom

Hi, thanks for you advice, i've cleared factory reset, partition cache, dalvik and installed Banks Gapps form http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012857, unfortunately I still can't use offline GPS
lil update
i have downloaded GPS Status, and i can't localize any satellites - even with internet connection - but at the same time google maps are working fine (but not sure, if they are using my routers localization or my GPS), running out of ideas how to set it up
Might be totally ridiculous, but do you have Location enabled? Check under Settings. Forgive me if you already have that enabled.

Hi, thanks for your reply, yeah, location is on , im switching between 'device only' and 'hight accuracy' but since i dont have wifi connection (except home which doesnt make much usage for GPS,unless testing) neither internet plan my (data connection is off) i don't think it makes any difference.
Lads, i still didnt figure out how to fix it, did you experienced similar problems with your devices ? how can i check to be sure that my GPS is def. working ? (it worried me, that while using GPS status i didnt see any satellites and couldn't get my geo. position )
Lads,
Almost 1,3k views and no advice
Please help me
Did you try another ROm like UniRom??? or the new Carbon ROM...
It will be better i think
why don't you download an app from google play sensor tester and see if your gps is working okey? maybe you have hw problem :/
Hi,
Thanks for your advice.
I had it already, as well i downloaded GPS Status (seems to be a bit better than sensor tester). I went out today and GPS Status caught 5 satellites, but couldn't determine my position , after that i've switched to g.maps and after a while, my position on the map was ... my home's address (that's were i used internet for the last time) - two streets from where I was standing, so after that I've switched again to GPS Status and within next 15 minutes couldn't catch any satellites. Have no idea how to fix it....
Hi lads,
So...i fixed it
I'm kinda ashamed after posting so much stuff earlier on, as the problem was with the hardware (had nothing to do with ROM/Kernel/RIL whatsoever), i only realized today (mostly cause I wanted to 'boost' the antenna) but the pin connectors with antenna were bent...yeah....really....i just stuck a small piece of an aluminium foil.
Below is screenshot form GPS Status - form inside my gaff - phone is placed against the window.

[Q] GPS issues on CM12 based roms

Anyone know how to get a gps lock on CM12 based roms? I have tried using the gps.conf from a sense rom, but to no avail.
Backup aosp ROM
Clean flash sense
Get a GPS lock in maps and/or something like gps toolbox.
Wait a minute or two for good measure.
Restore aosp ROM
Lock on in maps and/or GPS toolbox.
If no lock achieved, try try try again. As per some peoples experience in threads they didn't get it until 5 or 6 times, whereas I have either had working GPS off the start or only had to do it once, so mileage varies.
I hope it works for you
This is kind of reflection as CM as a whole. It's great they support 38475728 devices now but in turn the overall quality has seemed to go south for a year or two. They almost always move on to the new version before making the current one stable.
How I fixed it

My GPS was working on CM 11, but broke since I've gone to CM 12.1 nightlies. After quite a bit of fiddling, I got it working again but the fix is somewhat involved. I outlined it here on the CM Bug tracker, which I can't link to directly because I'm a new user. jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/CYAN-5691?filter=-3
If you've got root access, you might be able to just drop this .conf file into /system/etc/ (if that dir exists on your CM version) or /etc/ (if /system/etc doesn't exist). Reboot your phone after putting this file in, and see if GPS works. I recommend using the app "GPS Status & Toolbox" by MobiWIA - EclipSim to test your GPS-- it will let you see what's going on with just your GPS, independently of other location services.
Edit: I was going from VZW stock software to CM 12.1, and getting a solid GPS fix on stock software before switching over did not work for me. That said, getting the GPS fix on stock software may be necessary but not sufficient to get the GPS working-- if in doubt, do both.
Good luck.

For a reliable GPS fix, add/replace two files: gps.conf and gps.conf_default, from a stock rom. You find these files in the system/etc directory. Fix permissions, if necessary. GPS is fixed.

Hi. Can you tell me if it is possible to download this file from somewhere as it is missing on my device. I am using SM-N9005 and can't get any lock. Wondering if this file missing may be the cause. Many thanks. Karl.

This has been fixed in the CM 12.1 nightlies months ago. Just validated in cm-12.1-20151010-NIGHTLY-m8.zip that PHONE_TYPE=CDMA
