[REQ] Own section for the Samsung ATIV S - General Topics

Dear administrators of XDA-developers,
Lately a lot has been done around the Windows Phone 8 Developement and Hacking forum and most of that work contributed by really talented developers was related to the Samsung ATIV S. The ATIV S is the first Windows Phone 8 device to be Interop Unlocked and I see further progress coming. Maybe developers will be able to full unlock or even root the device in the near future, so that custom ROMs for the device will become reality. Currently it is only possible to flash signed ROMs with Custom CSC, but I progress is coming.
That's why I want to request an own section for the Samsung ATIV S in behalf of the Windows Phone 8 developer community on XDA-developers. I think that this will make their work much easier and better organized and will avoid posts like:"When will this be available for my Lumia 920?" or similar.
I am really looking forward to hearing from you and would love to see an own section for the ATIV S at XDA-Developers. With further work contributed by developers the Samsung ATIV S could become a worthy successor of the legendary HTC HD2.
Best regards,

Suggetion of new section for Samsung i780

Hi guys
as you all know , samsung i780 is one of the most powerful pda with a slick design , it grabs your attention even if you hate samsung company, its really a special pda
so my suggestion is why we dont make a separate thread for this device, a thread that has sub threads like general , upgrading and roms hacking, accessories and FAQ, like the one for tytn II or touch curise
so what all of you think ?
thank and best regards,

Seems that this phone is selling very well, at least in europe.
A dedicated room makes absolutely sense.
I would
also love that ! Just stopped using my Tytn II and is using my new i780 as my primary device - the Tytn II is in the drawer. But I love XDA so I would love to have a i780 section event though it aint an HTC phone
thank guys
lets hope we get separate section for samsung i780
would be cool but i gues all owner of this phone think so
I completely agree, finding infor on the i780 is pretty difficult and it would make things easier to make a special topic for it. I have been using the i780 for two weeks now.

I'm agree too
This phone is one of the best on WM...
Thank you all guys (dariog78, harrisoon and sebastientoussaint)
it seems there are alot of people who are interested on this device ,therefore a new section is really needed for this device.
I jst traded in my HTC Hermes for a new Samsung i780 and loving it. It would be nice to be able to share all the tips and tricks with other people.
Thanks!
seems like i780 is a very popular phone..
I agree, the I780 must have it's own home. I have a herald, but when I got my hands on this baby, wow nothing like it. We should start to encourage developers for this new kind of screen.
While I have no doubt that the Samsung i780 is a good phone I must say that it should NOT get its own section here.
On the Main Page you will see this....

Welcome to xda-developers.com
This site is about certain PDA-phones, made by a firm called HTC in Taiwan. Their makers named them 'Wallaby', 'Himalaya', 'Blue Angel', 'Wizard' and 'TyTN', but almost nobody knows them by those names. The mobile provider O2 sells them under the brand-name 'XDA', and that's what we had in our hands first. They're also known as Qtek, MDA, SX-56, Hermes and many, many other names.

So Unless I missed something in my search, The Samsung device is not made by HTC. I'm all for there being a Developers Forum for a Samsung Device. If I had some web hosting space left I'd offer to host it. However this is an HTC site and I think it should be kept that way.

but as you can see in the devices section, there are sections for HP ipaq and Palm Treo 750, and from my knowlege HP ipaq and palm treo 750 are not htc devices therefore we dont see any problem to have a section for samsung i780 since the hp ipaq and palm treo 750 had, also the samsung i780 is a special case because the resolution of its display is 320*320 which means it will has its own programs and games, thats why it is important to have a section specially for this device
@AbdullahT
HTC is the manufacturer of the Treo 750 and several HP iPaq smartphones. So it's normal that they have their place on the XDA-forum.
@JimmyMcGee
While I agree with you that this forum is all about developing for HTC manufactured devices I still think the i780 should have it's own place here on this forum. First of all, this site has been created in order to port Linux to the XDA. That aspect got somewhere sort of lost, since this forum talks more about porting the latest Windows Mobile versions to older devices and writing Windows Mobile software to enhance the experience with Windows Mobile devices then porting Linux to HTC devices. So this forum has evolved and I can't see why it couldn't evolve into a forum that also talks about other then HTC manufactured smartphones.
Personally I would welcome a dedicated i780 section. It would make finding information about tweaking the i780 a lot more easier. The main problem is, that there are other popular smartphones around, like the LG KS20 which also deserve their own section.
In my humble opinion I think the current structure of this forum doesn't allow anymore for adding more smartphones. So I think it would be a wise idea to rethink the current structure. I would think more in terms of activities then in terms of different devices.
go for it!

Adding the i780?

Hi all, just as a matter of curiosity, why hasnt the samsung sgh i780 been added to the forums (i know there are people who have added stuff for the i780 here - there just isnt a link from the main page to a forum specifically for the i789)?
I know the forums are generally htc/treo targeted but the i780 is a windows mobile based device which out weighs the tytan 2 in many respects and performs well as a pda/ppc, surely it would be of interest to many to see what rom updates etc you guys could come up with for this great device from the first page?
I am a wizard owner and am upgrading to the i780 - hence the "mandatory" blowing of its horn. I would love to see what you guys come up with as i never make a move on my wizard without first reading up on it here, it would be a pity to start tinckering with the i780 without first cross referencing here on XDA
This is a forum for htc devices only, people have asked for i780 forum before also, but as i said this forum is just for htc devices. You have to look somewhere else for samsung i780 forum (check my signature).
Hmmm... i always thought it was more for windows mobile devices as opposed to focusing on a single brand of phone, cant complain though - everything here is still awesome.
Thanks Sammy, i think this is the first reply i have ever gotten on xda, hence mu low post count . Im checking out your sig now. Thanks again
hmmm, windows mobile is becoming a standard on alot of devices now. maybe they should consider adding a section for other brands since everyone ends up here on this site anyway.
Not to mention at the moment other brands have posts and threads all over the show making it all very messy.
They can simply add a section and call it : Non HTC brands ... will certainly keep the forum neater.
Maybe someone should make a poll and put some pressure on the guys to do it ?
Well, even though i had given up the query i am still inclined to feel that there isnt any reason phones like the i780 arent a featured device.

Fair enough, but no explanation as to why XDA describes itself as

Doesnt make much sense, it almost implies that htc, palm and treo are the "only" true hybrids... Dont know about anyone else but my i780 whips most of em and makes for a pretty realistic hybrid of phone and pda.
Such as it is though, i am still very appreciative of the people on xda, a lot of time and effort goes into their work - for htc's and whatever else the mobile world pumps out. So essentially if they dont want to waver from pure htc then who am i to argue. Hence i suggested and dropped it.
- by the by, any admins reading this... how do i change my screen name?
yes i would agree with a general samsung phone as there are a few of us here among the HTC user. btw HTC made the hardware for the Palm treo 750 that is why there is a forum for it here.
Along the same lines, Samsung is responsible for the processors in most htc devices.
Im glad someone agrees with me though, even a general "click here for samsung stuff" would be great.
I have a htc like you but I would not be against the idea of a section for other brands
If xda-developers admins dont want to add non HTC devices then how about this: Create brand new site that will host a forum for all these devices. Then just ask the admin to add one dummy category that will guide all non HTC users to the unofficial xda-developers forum.
The problem is there are too many other forums. For example modaco – there are categories for different devices but ROM cookers keeps releasing on xda-devs. I like they are relesing it here but sometimes it's hard to find among all the HTC topics.

Lol... yeah, i have checked out modaco a few times but the reality of it is that they are just adding links through to xda. Doesn't really help the cause. The thing that makes a forum like this so great is that there are so many dedicated developers "HERE" - why would they want to go somewhere else It is weird however that the developers are obviously interested in developing for other hybrids, so why haven't any of them posed the question? surely its disappointing to see your hard work disappear under tons of "i need a great headset" and "my phone got wet" posts?
Well, i made a poll on weither or not we should have a non HTC section, please go cast your vote there. this way Admin can actually see how many of us there are that use other brands and might change their minds ...
go vote here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=417812
We have been trying for ages to get them to do this, it is not going to happen. Trust me.
Thanks for trying though.
Rob
I guess we should be happy they dont delete the thousands of posts in Samsung/HP/Dell/Acer/... cooked ROM threads.

Samsung Galaxy S - the dev community

This might not belong here and should perhaps go in the Galaxy S subforum but I would like to get the opinions of more than just those who have the phone in general.
I am wondering what people think will happen regarding the hacker and dev community with regards to the Samsung Galaxy S. Samsung have put in a good deal of effort to the market the phone. They might even be embracing the hacker community, leaving the phone relatively easy to root when compared to previous Samsung phones. This suggests that they have realised the benefits that come with a good dev community behind their phone and are trying to pull people towards it.
The question is - will the community take the bait? Currently the community favours phones from rival companies such as the HTC Desire. Generally, the subforums for the Desire are filled with new releases while the Samsung Galaxy S' subforums are still relatively empty. Do you think people slowly gravitate towards the new Galaxy S and its new hardware and develop as many apps as they have been for the Desire and other HTC phones before it?
The reason I am asking this question is because I am going to buy a new phone at the end of August and am picking between the Desire and the Galaxy S. I really like the new hardware on the Samsung but am worried that if the community doesn't embrace the Galaxy S, updates will stop coming (Samsung are notorious for not supporting their own phones for very long). If people think devs will slowly move to the Samsung Galaxy S, I will almost certainly get that phone. If not, then I might stick to the Desire.

FactoryROM is looking for Talented, Dedicated Team Members

Whats happening Community? I am in the process of starting an Android Development group by the name of FactoryROM.
I have personally been working on my own and due to the amount of work that goes into creating a Daily Driver for any
given phone it only makes sense to partner up with several people to get the work out quicker and also to combine
talents and expertise. I have setup a website at www.factoryrom.com and now all I need is the people
.
With this said, if you feel like you would be interested, please PM me and I will get back to you ASAP. As of right
now I plan on supporting the HTC Thunderbolt, Samsung Galaxy Nexus and also the Samsung Fascinate but
I am willing to add to this list.
Thanks.

[Q] Android on HTC Titan PI39100

Hello XDA!
Although I have been using XDA forums as my main (if not only) source for everything to do with Android and HTC alike, I have only just registered and am therefore a noob, unfortunatley .
I currently own a HTC Sensation, an amazing phone with alot in the way of versatility, especially considering the wide range of custom ROM's and other development material available from the highly talented developers within your ranks. I, personally, would not know where to start.
As I work for C.E.X ltd, I have access to a wide range of gadgets to play with and assess for my own interests as well as product research for my job. I have recently got my hands on a HTC Titan PI39100 WM7 phone for a two week test drive. This is a really nice phone that has an amazing feel and a nice big screen, however, I'm not overly keen on WM7 as an OS. I have searched and searched for an answer to my question but have been unable to find one on the web in general.
My question is, is there any way to port/flash an Android system onto the HTC Titan PI39100?
If this is a stupid question please let me know, but personally i beleive that the Titan would make a brilliant Android phone.
