Can I reset Nexus 5 but BUT still save pictures, files? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to reset the Nexus 5 phone; BUT still be able to save the pictures / docs folders ?
I was able to do it on HTC One (also didnt have SD card slot like Nexus 5) but it seems standard way to resetting will wipe everything off.
Any help will be appreciated.

If you do a factory reset in the stock recovery it'll wipe your entire device. Back up everything off the device before you do a factory reset

Nope

[Q] custom recovery factory reset (p500)

Hi there,
I installed void #echo on my p500 a few months ago, and it was good for a while, but now for a few reasons I want to return to the factory defaults. I had done a nandroid backup before flashing void, but I'm getting a "damaged SD card" message when in void, and I can't restore from my backup.
I have read that, before installing custom recovery, you could do a hard reset by holding the power + vol down + home buttons, but now of course that just boots into custom recovery.
I have also read some instructions on flashing original firmware, but they seem to all assume you're on a PC, and I'm using a mac.
Is there no way of simply doing a factory reset after installing custom recovery?
What would be my best course of action to getting my phone back to factory default state, considering I've got a damaged SD card, and using a mac?
Thanks in advance!

I think the only solution is to have use a nandroid backup or flash kdz........if u press home + volume down+power, it only resets void to its original settings

Thanks for the reply.
Sounds like I'm out of luck then... guess I'm stuck with what I've got then

Huh? Maybe, actually try to go to recovery and go thru the menus?

Why thank you for that enlightening post! I'm sure that simply doing the wipe data/factory reset option in custom recovery does exactly what I needed, and everyone else who went through the procedures using KDZ firmware updater were wasting their time

1/ Get a working SD card. Duh!
2/ Until 1/ is finished, the only thing you can do is doing a factory reset of your current ROM or get a Windows PC to use KDZ.
Bye.

1 is finished, it just took a simple format & repair SD Card in custom recovery, no need to go out and get a new one.
So now that is done, could you explain where to go from here, or just post some links? I've looked all over, and can't find anything about doing this without KDZ?

You should maybe see a doctor, since your look must be pretty weak. If you actually had read the sticky thread, you would have found e.g. this thread containing a huge archive of recovery images including the stock recovery or this thread containing a nandroid backup of the stock **** (there are nand backups for other versions as well, go and use the search, will not do the legwork for you.)

Factory reset phone with root and twrp

Hello guys, yesterday I sold my phone. Now im trying to factory reset my Oneplus one in the menu. But when I do that it reboots and gets in a TWRP bootloop. I already backedup my data on my new phone, so I just want to get rid of everything. When I reboot the phone nothing has changed and all my apps and data are still there. Anyone have an idea what I should do? Thanks in advance.

Simply boot into Recovery, tap Wipe and swipe to begin the process. Doing so will perform a regular Factory Reset.

The best way to ensure that the device is ready for sale is by flashing the stock images with fastboot. See section 8 of my guide:

Well the method that I suggested will ensure that the phone is back to a 100% stock state, exactly as it came out of the box.

I've read that your files are still accessible even after a factory reset unless you encrypt them?

Hi, doing a factory rest is your best option. This will wipe all of your personal data off of the phone, it cannot then later be retrieved by a new owner of the phone.
Just perform a hard factory reset on your device. Then fill the device's internal memory with blank txt files and perform another hard factory reset on it again. This way you can be sure that nobody will be able to recover the data that was stored on your device.

Forgot unlock password

Hi, I have forgot my password for unlocking the phone and now I need help because I dont want to restore it and loosing all the data (pictures and so on). Is there any way, please helpp
I think the only solution is to factory reset from recovery, if you can do that.
SORRY.. i think factory reset is the only way..
also i heard another way which requires twrp to be installed , but i dont recomend it, bcause it caused some serious problems to some ppl..
Do you maybe know if there is any possibility for me to recover the lost photos after?

Unlocking the boot loader to flash TWRP wipes the phone. Factory reset wipes the phone. Bottom line don't forget the password

Yeah sadly with Android 5.0+ you need root to get rid of any lockscreen security. The only way is to factory reset if you want to remove it. But sadly as mentioned rooting would wipe the phone since you have to unlock the bootloader.

it's good if you think about it ... what if a stranger wanted to get your photo's txt and contacts ?
that's the whole point in having the password in the first place
