General Questions Answered!

So, since I'm already a seasoned reader of the forums and a member of the Samsung Galaxy Ace forums right here in XDA, I bought myself a SGT2 7.0: it's great. Mine's the P3110 (Wifi only) and it came with 4.0.3. Now, I'd like to root it and mod it as I see fit but I don't see much information on the current status of things. I dug around the CM Forums and there's no SGT2 7.0 dedicated forums over there. Here I see guides on rooting and the like, but no one talks about the stable releases and/or nightlies of CM9 and CM10. So, to sum it up, here are my questions:
Is it safe to root and mod the SGT2 to CM9?
Where's the buglist of the latest stable release of CM9 for the SGT2?
Can you see a better battery life on CM9 compared with stock?
Should I download the latest OTA on my SGT2?
Now, I wouldn't have asked these questions if I see them answered here or any other forums, so that's that. Thanks in advance for any information you might offer.
As a seasoned reader, you created a question thread in general?

Basically, you could have found all your answers simply by looking at the development section. But here they are :

Yes, it is. You can root using CF-Auto-Root (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957160) or other methods that can be found in the same section. I think CF-Auto-Root is the simplest of all. Note that you don't need to root your tab if you intend to flash CM9 (or CM10 which is also available), just follow the instructions in the dedicated thread.

There's basically none, except the official keyboard dock is not working (although it works in AOKP). You're not concerned by IR-Blaster issue since you have a p3110.

I'd say the battery life is similar. Do not expect anything battery-wise. However, you'll be able to notice improvements in performance.

If you intend to stay with stock firmware, yes. The 4.0.4 is much more fluid than 4.0.3, and p3110 has also an official 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean) update.
The only drawback of JB (in stock and CM10) is the loss of the Tablet UI, replaced by Phablet UI. However, you can restore Tablet UI on CM10 by using a patch, or natively in AOKP or Paranoid Android. I greatly encourage you to go through a few threads in the development section, to get a better sense of all of this. Do not hesitate though if you feel lost or puzzled.
Thank you very much for your fast responses. Yeah, @PeartFan40, I guess I embarrased myself, haha!
@Einril, it's not that I don't like stock, it's just the bloatware that Samsung installs that makes me go all kinds of green but I'd like to keep my options open if something ever happens to my tablet I can use my guarantee, you know? I read about the Triangle Away app, so I'm good in that area, but just a tiny question: is it mandatory to have it or can I live with that triangle? Also, could I install the official stock firmware later down the road if I'd like? Right now I'm downloading the latest update for my tablet so I can save an image with CWM for safekeeping.
And just for kicks, what's new in CM9 for tablets? I'll google myself what's Phablet UI, don't worry
Thanks again!
What Triangle Away does is that it resets your custom binary counter, which is incremented each time you flash a custom recovery. Flashing a custom recovery on the Galaxy Tab 2 won't show up a triangle at boot, so you can live without using Triangle Away. However, it is necessary to reset it before sending the tab for guarantee.
You can always flash official ROMs via Odin. You can look at http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=GT-P3110&pcode=0&os=1&type=3 to find the latest firmware for your country.
What's new in CM9 ? Compared to stock? Basically a lot of customization tools, performance tools, and a more "pure-Google" experience. But it's quite complicated to list all the differences. The best way is to try it yourself

I already installed CM9. It was complicated at first because I had some trouble with ODIN (it seems the button Auto-reset shouldn't be marked) when I installed the CWMRecovery. Now I've downloaded ROM Manager and I'm thinking if I should install the Recovery the app offers. What do you think?
I also was tinkering with the system options and the kernel doesn't have a lot of governors. Any tips on the matter?

S4 (4.2.2) is it leaked to S3 ??

Hi All:
This is my first time here, I've been looking for a Rom for my S3 which can make it more similar to S4 with all its featuers.
I flashed many Rom and most of them has the 4.2.2 update but it has the nexus touch which I didnt like on my S3.
Any recommendations for a good Rom which is stable and have no issues..
Thanks in advance

The only answer I can give you is: Take a look in the developers forum. If you see something you like, try it. Maybe go for a rom with a stock (Samsung/TouchWiz) look, since that's what you're used to from the stock ROM. Actually, I'd start off by rooting your phone(you've already done that, since you've flashed a lot of ROMs), and remove all the bloatware you never use from stock ROM. Maybe replace a few of the stock apps with better alternatives. This makes the phone faster, and frees up memory.
You can also freeze apps, if you're not comfortable with removing them from the stock ROM. This thread discusses which apps are safe to freeze/remove. The OP links to this document showing a spreadsheet of apps that are safe/not safe to freeze/remove.
If you're not familiar with the term "freezing apps", you should do a forum search(or just Google) Titanium Backup. It's a feature LOADED (you guessed it...) backup-app, which allows you to freeze apps if you don't want to uninstall them completely. In short, it "disables" the app, removing it from the drawer, but keeping it installed. You can easily unfreeze the apps if you need them to work for you again.
Hope this helped you on you way. The world of custom ROMs is huge, so you're guaranteed to find somehing you like.

Thanks a lot for all the information that you've shared with me, I am still not familiar with many things in rooting which I might need your help with that.
The first thing, what you guys mean by Stock Rom? does it mean the original android framework that was not modified yet?
2nd: how to remove all the bloatware? and what do you mean by bloatware?
3rd: is it bad for the handset to be flashed again and again with many different ROMs? I always follow the steps which the developers mention in flashing any new ROM, so is there any right ways to do that without damaging my phone?
for now these are all the doubts that I have about rooting, but I might come up with many points in the future,
I hope you guys can help me in getting more knowledge about it, and thanks a lot for your precious time that you are giving me
Thanks again

[Q] Which custom roms disable the OTA updates?

So since Verizon is starting to push out the 4.2.2 my phone is now complaining that it wants to update. I don't really want to be forced into a new ROM whenever Verizon thinks it's a good time so I'm looking at my options for rooting and going with a custom ROM. However, I can't find which ROMs allow and which ones disallow the OTAs.
These two sound pretty good:
CleanRom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832070
BoneStock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2275376
Is there a way to know without installing it?
Thanks,
-Greg
Install any rom you want just delete the smd.apk with titanium backup and you won't get bugged for an ota and to be exact it's 4.1.2 ota.

Good call, I'll do that. Thanks!
Synergy and Hyper-drive are both excellent if you like stock plus S4 apps and customization options.

Q&A for UPDATED 9/30 [ROM][P900][P900UEU1BNI2] Original Stock and Debloated Stock Variants
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for UPDATED 9/30 [ROM][P900][P900UEU1BNI2] Original Stock and Debloated Stock Variants. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!

I do not feel completely confident it would work , not enough to tell you to take that risk.
Although they do appear to have the exact same hardware chip wise (the cpu/gpu are identical) I would need someone who is rooted on the 901 to check that the partition tables are identical to the sm-p900. The biggest one being that /boot is still mmcblk0p9. If /boot was set to the wrong block because they are slightly different you would end up with a bricked tablet, which would be awful. There is also the unknown of different parts in the firmware to account for the sm-p901 having 3g support while the sm-p900 is only wifi.

I think it will work, but you need to replace kernel (boot.img file) from your tab
edit: possibly not. I didnt find any libs with 3g support in p900 rom...

That was my other fear. It may flash onto it fine if the /boot is the same, but I have not seen any support for the 3g service part of it.
Will any firmware updates coming soon to this wonderful rom?
Can you add widgets to the lockscreen?
OTA and new kernal - Gatsrom's ROM
I have been using the debloated stock variation of Gatsrom's rom and love it. I also use Xposed framework. When Samsung pushes a new OTA I don't want it to screw up the Rom. Will the new OTA be blocked or is there something I need to do to block the OTA? Second question: there is discussion in the original thread about changing kernels. What is the benefit for a non-developer or non-heavy tweaker for changing kernels.
Great ROM!
Keith
Really need some help guys ive followed the install details and install twrp with odin.
Tired both roms and on reboot it just sits on the Samsung logo screen.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks, you saved me!
Gat, I rooted my None Pro 12.2 P-900. Then got Twerp up and running and put Cm 12 on. Did not like it and it was buggy. My Samsung tablet mouse and Samsung Blue tooth keyboard lost some functionality. Could not unmount flash drive which I use anew OTG cable to read the drive... leta just say I was not in a good place. Found your thread here on XDA and decided to download your Ron and flash. Had trouble the first few times, but finally am up and running thanks to you. The Cm 12 fried my 120gb micro sd, but that versus the thought of bricking this device is a small price to pay. I am out an sd but still have a functioning note pro. Cm 12 was an awful experience for a first time rooter and rom flasher. You saved me and I would like to personally thank you.

[Completed] Need help deciding on a custom rom for the galaxy s5 sm-g900h Indian version

First of all I wanna say thank you for taking your time out to read this. So like I have mentioned I need help deciding on a custom rom, so here are the prerequisites that the custom ROM should have. 1. I want the finger print feature to work 2. I bought the s5 due to the really cool camera which comes with a selective focus and a panorama picture mode so I'd like the camera to retain these features 3. The ultrapower saving mode 4. Since I flashed my phone which led my knox counter to trip even after getting back to stock android I can't update my phone through OTA so it would be lovely to have a custom rom which would provide me the feature of upgrading or updating the firmware through an independent OTA feature. And Lastly 5. I want the battery to last longer and also the private mode and lastly it should be slick. I don't mind not retaining the samsung touch wiz look. PS it would be really lovely to have a stable ROM. And also it doesn't matter if it's lollipop or kit kat, but it would be great to have a nice lollipop rom which would have all the above mentioned prerequisiteS. Thank you. Need all the help I can get. Really desperate.
Hi
Welcome to XDA Assist.
Check this thread for a list of all ROMs .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2719906
If the list is incomplete you can check the Development section
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/development
And the Original development section.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/verizon-galaxy-s-5-android-development.
Stability & battery life differ device to device and configuration and it has to be tested individually.
You can check the individual ROM threads for the features you want.
For better reply from the Peer S5 community ,you will have to sign up for forums and post in Q/A section.
