I got a moto G it was charge to 100% played with it a little then completely shut down the device. Next day when i tryed to turn the device on, the battery was completely dead. Had to connect the charger for like 10 min before it powered on. Any ideas what can be the cause? Maybe the device does not shut down properly and freeze into the shutdown process with the screen turned off? Anyone else experienced the same?

I'm pretty sure there are other posts with the same issue. Did you search Google or XDA before posting.

Not exactly your issue but the best place to post I think as its all about battery issues. There may be something in there that helps.
It is similar to your issue but I realise you had switched off the phone and it still dropped battery to zero, but I would think the above post is related.
If the issue is hardware related I guess the battery could probably 'drop' its charge, or at least report the charge was dropped, even if the phone was off, ie battery goes 'wrong' while phone is off so phone can't power on properly.
It is similar yes, but yet diffetent will keep an eye on the thread and see if the problem happens again

Hi! Sorry if this was posted in the wrong forum, im new here
I installed Fallout V 4.3.0 on my HTC DS and everything was working fine. But then suddenly my phone started to restart randomly. 1-2 minutes after booting it restarts again. If i take out the battery, wait 1 minute, and the put i back in the phone starts automatically again. Then another 1-2 minutes before restart loop.
This does not happen when the charger is plugged in. First thing i thought was a battery-issue, but this happened after flashing a ROM, so?
The phone was working fine on Fallout V 4.0.0, problem occured when updating.
-I wiped everything before installing the ROM.
-Have tried to reinstall Fallout, same problem
-Have tried to install Endimyon, same problem.
Information about the phone:
Current ROM: [Endymion V3.5|Sense 3.5|GB 2.3.5][kernel V2.2|ControlCenter]
Hboot: 6.98.1002
Radio: Default
S-off
Would appreciate some help, as my phone is useless atm! :crying:
Hello,
Maybe this should be posted in the Fallout thread (however you have to make 10 posts before being able to post in the dev section...). Up to the moderators to move your thread or not
I have had some similar issues after flashing Fallout, except my phone didnt reboot but it just went off a couple of minutes after i tuned it on. Although this just seemed to happen once. After I turned it on again, everything ok until I charged it to 100%, turned it on again - and same issue.
I then flashed CM9, same issue.
I read somewhere that it might be a charge level display issue : when you plug the phone in charge and unplug it right away, battery indicator will say it is charged to 100% - while obviously it is not...
Hope that will help you.

Yes. Do you think buying a new battery will do the trick?
Time for the really stupid question - but it is the old one and has been a problem for many people (including me).
Have you tried to insert a piece of paper, folded so it is 3 or 4 sheets thick, in between the battery and the back of the phone when you insert it? There is a manufacturing tolerance which can cause the battery to move and lose connection to the contacts sometimes.
It's probably not the solution for you, but it's a damn sight cheaper than buying a new battery immediately.

Thanks for answering, but i've tried that... The weird thing is that if i turn on the setting "screen always on", the phone does not restart. Or if the charger is plugged in. It only restarts some seconds after the screen goes black (inactivity) or if i press the power button.
Sadly I don't have an answer for you, however, I wanted to recommend that you avoid taking your battery out as that can cause damage to the emmc chip and thus brick your phone

Thanks for the warning, but i really dont care about the emmc chip now You see, if the battery is in the phone starts itself automatically...

Don't worry about the eMMC chip that the other poster mentioned - the problem is not caused by removing your battery - it is caused by not removing it properly, or by removing and reconnecting it quickly which means there is still residual charge when it reconnects.
Given the more detailed description, I assume you have a custom ROM running? If so then try two things
1) Try to decrease the under-voltage settings by 50mV
2) Increase the minimum CPU speed.
It sounds like the phone is going to sleep, but is slowed down too much and a reboot is forced.

Tried your suggestion, but no luck. Will buying a new battery give me any chance?
It might do. I would be tempted to find a phone shop and ask them if you can test your phone with a battery from them before buying it though - just in case it is something else causing this.

Hy Guys!
My DS is doing the same thing after I istalled the ICE DS 5.1. Funny thing is it started only after 1 day. It was working perfectly until it restarted after pressing the power button. I've tried different ROMs (CM 7.2; Fallout 5) but it happend almost instantly. Also tried the CPU voltage, no result.
I'm curious superlorre if the new battery did the trick?
Or is there a thread I missed where the problem got solved?
Thanks in advance.
In the last few weeks i've been having major battery problems with my phone.
The percentage seems to be jumping around so it will show 100% very quickly when charging then quickly drop after not much usage. It always seems to reboot around 20% then I struggle to get it back on and when I do it will show 4% etc.
I've tried resetting the battery stats and two different roms but no luck. Is this likely a hardware issue? If so, could I get it looked at under warranty even though i've unlocked it? It's very frustrating...I like this phone but can't put up with this for much longer and if I have to replace it I might as well just get a nexus 4...
try calibrate your battery.
discharge it, and recharge it while the phone is off for few hours.
Whenever I power off it boots into cwm so can't calibrate. Does twrp behave like this as well?

Just switch to TWRP and indeed, it stays off ifyou plug the charger in. I'll try calbrating...
Even after calibration my issue still persists. The rom starts rebooting like crazy as the power drops down to 40% 'ish, the phone is becoming unusable. Is there anything else I can try to debug this? Different radio? ROM? replacement battery?
Have you opened the back of your phone? That really sounds like you have a connection issue with the battery but being that it's a little cable and not pins sort of seems unlikely but possible.

Well I've actually ordered a replacement battery off eBay so I'm going to try that.
What I've noticed is I can charge it to 100% with the phone off. If I turn it on and run it down to say 60% then put it back on charge with its powered on, it says its fully charged after about a minute. Clearly its not charged....

Okay, guys. I'm begging for help. I have a rooted One XL Evita, and I woke up last night to it very hot near the camera, but still functional. Working and everything. So I set it aside to cool down. Now, I woke up to it completely dead, so I plugged it into a AC charger.
There is no charging light. No signs of life whatsoever. So, I searched the forums, and I tried just about everything. Button combinations, everything.
Now, I did find something that seems like it works somewhat. If I hold the power button while the phone is plugged in, the charging light will blink 8 to 10 times. Then stop, and go back to doing nothing.
I don't know what to do. Please help me if you can. Thank you. :crying:

It was actually in my hand, haha. But nothing intensive was running. It boggles me. :highfive:
The fact that it was covered (even partially) probably has something to do with it heating up. I've seen reports of these phones heating up while under pillows or in pockets, so it's not much of a leap to think holding it could produce excessive heat.

This phone has some history of battery tanking occasionally for some folks, and the phone becoming unresponsive. Often happens at night, so may be related to signal and phone not properly disconnecting from the network when idle for a long period of time. Plugging into the wall charger overnight seems to be the remedy for most folks. This might have been what happened to you. The frequency of this issue seems to be increasing as the device gets a bit older.
This has happened to me several times during the life of my phone. You just need to plug it in for a while and the charging light will start flashing red, then when it turns solid red a bit later it has enough juice to actually boot. It happens because your battery was completely drained.

We're actually talking about a different situation, it's not just a case of the battery draining normally. There is a power management bug that rears its ugly head every now and again on this device. When this happens you don't get the usual flashing led, you get no response whatsoever and it looks like a brick, even though it isn't. Usually the phone will power on again after being charged overnight.

Hello, I had a really weird problem about 2 weeks ago. My nexus just turned off, and it wasn't working for another 3h. I couldn't turned it on, pc didn't see it and it wasn't responding for charging. Then suddenly after 3h he turned on and it works fine. Do you have any ideas what is wrong with it, and can I use it as my daily phone?
Maybe a faulty battery since you had no power to boot the phone. Did you already notice weird behaviours with the percentage of the battery?
No, it was the first and for now the last time it happened.
Keep calm and see if it happens again. Others may have other opinions since I have never seen this issue.
Good luck.
Ok, thanks for help, bro ?
Hi All,
I'm facing a weird issue with my phone from more than 2 months and it has reached a frustrated level now. It used to shut off at levels like 15%, sometimes between 15-25%. But nowadays, it shuts down automatically at 40-60% and that is really unreliable. So, i wanted to check if there are other people facing the same issue or is it only my device. Please share your views, any possible solutions, possible reasons, and if applicable, similar experiences.
thanks for the info, i got my oneplus one back in 2013, hopefully it will not shutdown after a while. i have not found such problem and hope i will not in the future as i want to have the phone for at least 5 years

thanks so much, bought it after my nexus4 died which im still sad about because its one of my 1st real android phones after having a contract android phone.
As an update, i kept my phone on charge for straight 4-5 hours. and now it shuts down after 20-25%. Definitely an improvement. But still it's a mystery why does it show this bug in the first place.
Umm, how has no one mentioned maybe trying battery calibration!? Seems like a fairly obvious first step here to take before swapping out for a new battery.. Plug the phone in and let it charge entirely. Even at 100% in Settings > Battery it will still show "100% - Charging on AC" (or USB whatever you've got connected)
You need to wait for that to turn into "100% - Charged." Then, calibrate using any battery calibration app from the playstore, ( I use this one )
After it charges to 100% - Charged, hit "calibrate" in the app, disconnect the charger, and let it drain entirely. You might find it dying out before 0% once again, but this hopefully should have been the last time. Plug the phone in and switch it on as soon as you can while it starts to charge. Let it charge uninterruptedly to 100% - Charged, again.
Not saying this might solve it 100% but it is an option to try.

Well already tried and i may sound a bit silly, but studies have proved that battery calibration is a myth. Android automatically cleans the batterystats.bin file after every single full charge. Rest assured, i have already done that with no avail.

I had the same problem, phone was switching off @ 40% and at times @35%. Battery calibration certainly helped. No more problems now. Works well if the phone is rooted.
