Is Kingo Android Root application SAFE ?
Many people are scratching their heads thinking whether Kingo's application is safe or not
So this thread is made for everyone who is in a dilemma about the applications usage, Ban and removal of ban from XDA's thread and rooting their phones with the kingo app without any hassle (NOOBS GUIDE FOR ROOTING).
So, I contacted kingo for support and information and they came up with a very satisfactory explanation about their application which has been attached below.
Moreover, some people are still concerned about the ban and thread that was closed by XDA, for their information the thread was opened and this application was declared as SAFE to use.:good:
Final verdict from my side is, every one who is afraid of flashing kernels for rooting (like auto-root) and the people who are concerned with KNOX warranty (MOST PEOPLE did not trip their knox warranty) should use this simple root & unroot tool to get the administrative privileges on their device.

I did Follow all steps, everything was going good up until my note 3 reboot and reboot over and over, when kingo said successfully rooted, it didn't work that way, instead to my surprise, when finally hard reset it, came to find out that it tripped knox, and have my warranty voided, this is my personal experience and wanted to share with you all.
I would always prefer using a computer to gain root access instead of theses on the fly tools. It worked for me everytime without messing up anYthing. Better getting some knowledge before changing any system components

Well Kingo Root helped me to root my SGA+ whereas others failed, including Odin. Didn't have any problems until now, and the only advice I can say is just use the computer to do the rooting work. I never believed that on the fly rooting is working on any branded phone.

Well, Kingo was the only tool that managed to root my phone.
After putting my hands on 20 or 30 devices, this was the toughest rooting.
(Alps - GT-i9502)
Now, if I were an employee of General Dynamics or Boeing, I might be a little cautious given how the way the tool looks up the method;
basically, anything could be happening under the covers and it could happen on a case-by-case basis.
But since I'm pretty uninteresting from an industrial espionage perspective, I'd say it was worth it.

it's better to use recovery mode and flash your su zip than rooting within root app. for me rooting with app is like doing a surgery while the patient still awake :v

My phone never got rooted by it. I have Xperia Z and whenever I try to root it, it says Root Failed - NeedRoot. However, I tried rooting my phone with every rooting application on web and it didn't work. Even my expert friend couldn't do it.

I tried that method with Android Version 4.3. But I just read that forum and it says that root only works for 4.2. I will downgrade version and try again. So, will I be able to update my phone to Kitkat (4.4) without losing root?

Virus Warnings?
What about the warnings? I downloaded the android_root.exe file from kingoapp and checked it with VirusTotal. It came up with warnings for: TROJ_GEN.F47V0329 and W32/QHost.C.gen!Eldorado.

No, I'm still on 4.3. I didn't get the update because I was rooted and my phone status is "modified."

So i was rooting but i got suspicous if it was doing anything. So i unpluged my phone and let it keep going. Funny thing is it said i was still connected even after a while! I dont think this stuffs real

I would not use kingo to root my device after seeing many people saying it is not safe.
I'm also certain this method you have described doesnt give you a custom recovery, as you have stated that it does. This would defeat the whole purpose, as your knox would be 0x1 after a custom recovery is on the device.

kingo and some other root program was said not to be safe because they it ask some permission so XDA did not approve of it but from what i read XDA now says its ok and i think they even change it on there next update so XDA would recomment it( at least not banned it )

Kingo is not considered safe since:
1) you have to download and run an EXE on your PC
2) that EXE will download "things" from the internet
3) those things from the internet have TOTAL control over your phone
4) the "things" from the internet might not be the same for every type of phone/firmware; in that scenario it is very easy to have 10% of the people "injected" with some form of long-term security backdoor which can be (much) later used.
I am not saying that Kingo does step 4 above, but it could be doing it and there would be no way for people to know it until it is too late.
well...
i rooted my device using kingo without problems, no knox triggered or anything, and i got root and cwm recovery installed aswell, right after that i did a nandroid, wiped everything that has to do with TW and tripped knox by installing CM, the best thing i have done so far, faster, more stable with custom dpi and much more familiar since i always have been using cm on all my devices ^^
Why would someone want to inject an "advanced" user's device? Since most users are flashing updates, wiping all the time it's not worth injecting such a device, i guess most people don't save important stuff on ther devices if they are re-flashing all the time, atleast im re-flashing all the time anyways xD

2- while no one knows exactly what information kingo sends from your computer to the Internet while your phone is being rooted, and you can be very suspicious of that step, AFTER your phone is rooted I can say with 99% confidence that there is no malicious software implanted in your phone by it.
3- after you root your phone, if you do anything that affects the bootloader, including installing a custom rom like cyanogenmod or custom recovery like cwm, you WILL trip knox.
4- in the absence of that possibility, the best you can do is to install safestrap (look it up) on your rooted phone.

kingo root is safe, if it dumbs anything onto your phone just delete them, i have safely rooted a couple cheap phones with it and see no problem.
I can verify this, too. I rooted about 5-6 devices with it, and it did it flawlessly with them all.
What I remember using it with is the Samsung Galaxy SII (i9100 and i9100g) and a Tab 3 and others which I don't remember.
However, all it does is that it installs SuperSU to your device only, and nothing else. One Click Root is also as known as Kingo, but it installs a custom recovery, too, if you choose to.

Yes I have also successfully rooted my device but I read online that kingo send the imei number and other sensitive information to a server in China.. have you heard about this?

I never heard about it, but I just googled it and you seem to be right. But I had it rooted for more than 8 months now, and I see no problems at all. I think that it uploads your IMEI code to their servers for 2 reasons. To know what is your device and get the correct rooting files so that it doesn't load your computer with a huge amount of files for devices that you don't have, and the 2nd reason is maybe they keep a counter or something like that of the number of devices rooted using their app. I said I am not sure about this, but I predict these are the reasons. And again, I didn't have any issues at all since I rooted my phone. However, if you just want to feel safe you can use One Click Root.

It's about trust! I don't know which phone/s you own, but for Sony smartphones/phablets there's Flashtool.
Personally, I prefer rooting my phone with Flashtool.
Some of its key features:
- unlock bootloader
- root
- ROM flashing
- kernel flashing
I never tried Kingo and I've heard only bad things about it.
What I used in the past- never experienced any trouble- is Vroot. Just to be sure, I followed these steps:
Install Vroot
Let it download the drivers for your phone
Turn off your Internet Connection
Connect phone
Root it
uninstall Vroot
delete all "leftovers"
It won't work with Kingo. Kingo wants you to stay connected to the Internet for some odd reasons. I'm paranoid, so I would never recommend it! What if it sends your phone's IMEI, ID, number to their servers?

I guess it depends on what you consider "safe".
I used KingoRoot to root my tablet, and after it was done, I found under Developer Options, Process, these KingoRoot background apps ...

I know this thread is old but I thought I'd add more warnings to Kingoroot.
I just tried to root my phone using Kingoroot. The apk installed and root just fine on Android 4.x.x. and it does require internet connection. It doesnt tell u what it uses it for.
Any ways, I tried to use Kingoroot again on Android 7.x.x and the apk failed the root so I downloaded the PC rooting program from their site. Low and behold, it downloaded a bunch of malwares and virus as bundle.
Long story short, stay far far away from Kingoroot.

Running kingoroot and connecting phone = failed root & loads of ****e installed on phone.
So NO. This software only installs crapware, and does not root android LG phones

I've read plenty of sketchy stuff about Kingoroot. Even so, suppose you use a phone that has no SIM card, that has no Gmail (or a fake Gmail) account attached to it. If Kingoroot would root such a phone, couldn't you get root with it then install TWRP, use TWRP to completely wipe the device, then either reinstall rooted stock or a custom ROM?

Sure I have, and you can expect this to be common practice on every corner. That's just the reality of today's big data collection. So I wouldn't exactly call the root "unsafe" based on that.

I sold my p905 a while back, going to get a p900 however, the biggest factor is able to delete files on the sd card. I know I have to root it, however, from what I read there's issues and you can no longer root it?.

I love how that guide says all variants and then makes no mention of the P907. I would love to be able to use a custom recovery. Unless the P907 falls under the LTE moniker even though the model number is different?
Yes, TWRP works with P900
I went through this a week ago (with some help) and once I figured out how to get TWRP 2.8 to flash using Odin the process of rooting and installing a custom rom was easy. There is a thread a little lower on this forum that goes through the process.

I can't post a link but the thread is in this forum. I have not unrooted but there are several threads that mention going back to stock.

I do not have enough posts to link an email. About three weeks ago I had the same question. The thread is in this forum on page 3, 5 or so messages down. I am the op, stedmakr. Gastrom answered the thread, provided a link and helped me root the p900 and install his rom (its excellent). Sorry I can't post links. Page 3 of this forum.

Since there's this thread... How about KNOX? Is there a way to root P900 without tripping KNOX flag? I don't care about KNOX software itself, but since here in Poland warranty problems are left to the decision of the service, it is quite important for me not to give them opportunity to refuse a repair (if something happens, which - I hope - never will).

Not sure if you realize this but one of the reasons people aren't answering you is because those of us who have rooted do so and never look back. I wish I could tell you for sure that it will work with the current version of the firmware but I cant . . I rooted 8 months ago and haven't looked back. I cant speak for others but I'm not about to flash stock and go through the whole thing again just to update an old thread so I suspect that this is part of the reason that there's no updated guide. For devices that get a ton of development things are different but this niche device doesn't have a flurry of development activity surrounding it so . . .
One thing I can say is that it is my experience that if CF Autoroot fails the worst thing you're left with is a tripped knox and the stock rom without root. I say this because I was one of the unlucky ones who had to struggle through multiple attempts to get CF Autoroot to work. Eventually it did but during that time I had multiple shots at it and each time I was able to at least recover to the point of getting stock OS and recovery working again.
I see no reason why you can't achieve root on a SM-P900. If you can't do it with CF Autoroot then just download one of Gatsrom's images of stock rooted, flash TWRP using Odin (with auto reboot option disabled), boot into TWRP and do a full wipe and flash Gatsrom's image. You'll lose your setup and apps but you'll get root.

If someone's gonna root their tablet, especially one of this caliber & price point. Then they should know how to recover it back to stock on their own. Concerning the tripping of Knox, who cares! Samsung won't turn down a hardware issue covered under warranty just because you decided to load another ROM. That topic has been discussed to death in another thread. If your going to root this thing, then root it and live on! LoL ?

Not here in Poland...
So I just got my new Sony Xperia Z3 but unfortunately it's D6603 model so no 32GB goodness which means I probably need Link2SD as I'll end up with probably about 10GB user available storage after all the updated which means I need to root.
I haven't even turned the phone on yet, it's still sitting there charging, but let's assume for a moment that it's not yet on Lollipop and still running KitKat which should mean I have various easy rooting methods at my disposal, right?
So what I'm asking is what would be the easiest (and most universal/in other words covering the most versions) root I could use.
I don't care about custom this or whatever, I want to keep my phone as stock as possible, I just want to be able to use Link2SD and maybe Titanium Backup, so if possible I'd prefer not to add a custom recovery or mess with anything beyond getting root access for those 2 apps.
I know I will have to check the bootloader first (I assume it's already unlocked though given the phone it's an international version that isn't carrier locked but that's a different problem anyways). But after that is there a recommended one-click root to use that alters as little as possible and covers as many android versions as possible? Or something almost as easy?
I don't want easy because my technical knowledge is lacking by the way, I want easy because the fewer steps there are the less I can screw up and I'm terrified of bricking the phone....so terrified I've resisted rooting my previous two android phones even after getting replacement phones, but I really need Link2SD now.

Search forums. You can have Z3 rooted on both locked and unlocked bootloaders or or install custom fw.

I know there are many options, I was hoping to be pointed to what someone considers the ideal easy way. My very problem was that I was inundated by potential rooting options but many either modified more than I would have liked or some seemed suspect/too good to be true (no way there are 30 accepted one-click root programs for this phone) so I'd been hoping someone would help me find the right tree in the forest of options I was looking at.
Anyways today I finally turned the phone on and to my great dismay found that it was already fully up to date (well our local network OTA updates may be a revision or 2 behind international updates) and running Lollipop 5.02 and I gave up all hope then there but Kingroot looked so easy that I decided to try it anyways and to my great surprise and tremendous delight it worked perfectly. Downloaded rootchecker and I'm fully rooted. Tried Link2SD and I'm extremely pleased to say that I have all of Asphalt 8 - Airborne's massive bulk as well as Spiderman Unlimited taking up space on my SD card and most of my user available internal storage remains unused.
I think I'm going to stay with KingRoot's app though and not switch to SuperSU, I don't want there to be any chance of losing this root access (I know it shouldn't happen but I desperately need Link2SD to stay happy so I don't want to rock the boat in any way).
So I guess this thread can be closed now.

Thanks. I ended up using Kingroot before this already because when I turned the phone on for the first time I saw that it was already on 5.02 which I thought made it unrootable (without a custom rom, but I may have missread something somewhere) so I decided give it a Hail Mary try and it worked!!
I think I'm going to stick with KingRoot's app though and not replace it with SuperSU, I just don't want to rock the boat and lose that root access (I know it can be done without losing it, but I'm super paranoid).

I would be more paranoid about using quite unknown app instead of rock solid and proven SuperSU..

I don't have anything sensitive on my phone, I'd prefer they didn't spy on me of course but as far as I'm concerned they can have every shred of info they want. All I need is root access for Link2SD, I don't need the rock-solid and proven SuperSU for that and I don't want any more features incase that offers more.
Since KingRoot has given my phone a chance at a decent life I'm willing to trust them until being shown info to the contrary (and I mean more than just them knowing my IMEI number).

Besides having the more trusted app what would I gain from SuperSU? Does it to do more? Besides the engrish the Super User app from Kingroot seems fine.
Can SuperSU also unroot my phone again (should I need to warranty claim) and also try to keep the root permanent even when updates happen (which Kingroot apparently tries to do even if it likely won't work)?
Oh by the way one more question with regards to rooting. Back when I had my Xperia neo apparently OTA updates would make you lose root but doing an update via the Sony PC companion program could maintain the root...is that still the case? Or do I lose root no matter what now?
Pc companion is a worthless pos. Believe me. Look for alts, anything that works with android to your liking. You'll be much happier. Kingroot is not needed AT ALL. Plus I don't like the fact it calls home. Reminds me of the latest lenovo fiasco where programs within the bios are calling home-wtf! Use the tested working giefroot, flashtool, xzdr stuff. My 2cents

2. Knox is easy to trip now.
3. There are no custom firmwares anymore for Samsung phones.
4. Samsung requests the removal of links on this board constantly.
5. Can't use Samsung pay with a knox tripped phone.
6. Downgrading is blocked in case you have an upgraded phone.
Is this what Samsung forums have come to now? Are there phones out there that you don't have to deal with Knox?
It seems people don't really care anymore about Samsung phones?

Your question has been asked by many people on multiple forums. Samsung's flagship is great as is, however the software has a few bugs that bother everyone which is why we root. Samsung built knox so there products would appeal to corporate customers. That is why it exists. To say there are no custom firm wares is false. Just read the development forums. Root is not an absolute must, but it is getting harder as time goes on

I obtained root just to prove to myself it can be done. It is not the most important thing In the world. That said, I do understand your perspective. I appreciate the root apps and custom ROMs, and each year root access I harder and harder. Even without root you can appreciate any android device
I stopped rooting just because my Barclay's bank app doesn't work on rooted phones and it's very convenient for me. Also stock android got a lot better and I like it as it is. Also you have theme engines build it now so you can customize your phone without rooting. All that said of course there is some exceptional cases that root is needed, like recently with the new S6 there is no option to choose 2G only network mode on stock rom and I don't know if there is a no root solution for it
So perhaps I am in a shrinking group of people that still needs, or rather appreciates, rooting.

I am restoring every app from the former to the latter and some of my games aren't... stored on the Google Play store. And I like root-requiring game alterers, unlocking my phone to be a hotspot, and simpler things like using Coolify, Root Booster and Root Explorer, among others.
Now I've tested my ability to transfer everything over from one device to another (my tablet), so I know it will work. I just keep reading more and more about KNOX (which I successfully avoided on my S5) and how it's unavoidable on the S6. How you can't rollback to an earlier version of Android (since I got my phone today, I'm assuming I have 5.1.1). I don't care about Samsung Pay. At all.
Is it advisable for me to root? If I have 5.1.1, CAN I? I read that PingPongRoot won't even WORK on 5.1.1! What am I to do? Or does no one care about rooting anymore? Is anyone devoted to resolving these issues or did everyone shrug and go, "Eh."?

-_- 5.1.1 is perfectly/easily rootable just by flashing a custom kernel. And if you looked in the development forums you'd see there's plenty of devs that care as there is plenty of rom and kernel development going on.

Secondly, PingPongRoot is incompatible with 5.1.1, but depending on which variant you have,
you might still be able to root or roll back to 5.0.2
Which variant do you have?
Two years ago I would not have dreamed of using an unrooted Android phone, but Android has come a long way now. I have been using my old Note 3 and my current S6 unrooted and I'm not missing root at all. Most of the reasons why I would root are available now without root.
I also enjoy unprecendented stability on my phones. No more flashing untested amateur stuff that fixes one thing and breaks 10 other things. So the answer to your question for me is, no, it's not worth rooting anymore.

I appreciate your response. I have been looking at the development forums. I've been reading all kinds of threads and I guess I just find it daunting. I'm kind of in my own head about how I'm going to do all this and it SEEMS there are so many restrictions on what will work with what (moreso than used to be), incompatibilities and laser-focused restrictions.
I typically feel confident about these things, but when I start reading the various threads, I feel like a n00b. I have to ask because, as you've seen here, I convinced myself out of the possibility of rooting.

Good to know. Possibly. Thing is, I haven't activated my phone yet (and I just got it 5 hours ago) because I know it will deactivate my old one and I'm still doing Titanium Backup to Dropbox. And I'm just incredibly terrified that I will lose the ability to do something that requires my old phone to be active. I don't actually know what that would be, but that's just me.
So, I don't know what variant I have yet. I will report back on that. I should be ready to activate by tomorrow morning.

KNOX & many other apps can be made non-functioning with the Google Playstore app:
"Package Disabler Pro".
It is very easy to follow or change any of their suggested recommendations.
Settings can be saved or restorded to or from .xml files. Password protection is possible.
Worthwhile.

Hey! I have version 5.0.2 on my phone! Fantastic. Now I just have to turn off auto updating.
Update: My phone is not supported by PingPongRoot... G920PVPU1AOC9.

Did you try using odin to revert back to an earlier build?

No... I... feel really dumb right now. Rooting has always been so easy. My build just WAS fine.
I will go find ODIN and a tutorial on that.
Update: Not finding anything remotely like that on the Internet, but will search these forums.
Edit 2: Not finding anything. I assume I'm searching incorrect terms. And the PingPongRoot thread is closed because people couldn't stay on topic!

Restoring the stock firmware WILL NOT trip KNOX.
It is true that the PingPongRoot thread is closed, but you still can sideload the apk.

This is great. I had found this thread, but didn't know if it applied.
And I already installed PPR, it just told me when I clicked "Get Root" that my build wasn't supported. Is there some close cousin of my build that would be "correct" to change to? Like the closest build name?
I have: G920PVPU1AOC9
On the list of approved builds, I see, for example, G920PVPU1AOCF.

Since your build number is for the Sprint variant, downgrade to the earliest build there is for the sprint variant.
If it is listed on the PingPongRoot thread, install it. The one you just mentioned looks like the one to use. Try it.
An update: Worked beautifully. Laterally changed my build from G920PVPU1AOC9 to G920PVPU1AOCF - success!
Installed PingPongRoot - success!
And everything followed... Titanium Backup, Lucky Patcher, etc.
Last part is kind of important, though. Tried to install Modded Google Play Store. Failed. Did research and found out I need Xposed to install it.
So I install Xposed (I already had a backup). It tells me my framework is outdated. So I do some more digging and find out I need a special version of Xposed for Lollipop, which I get and install. There's a .zip that I have to flash via recovery in order to make Xposed work which would make Lucky Patcher work which would make the Store work.
Flashing the zip requires TWRP or CWM recovery. Can I install either of those without tripping KNOX? This is getting way too complicated. I mean, logically, I would think that since I have PingPongRoot already, that I'm good.
