Hey guys, I'm about to get a new Galaxy S2 (AT&T) and I was thinking about porting my number over to google voice. If i do this, could I cancel my text messaging plan and use google voice to text?
u could however you would only be able to text from a computer. ur phone will still register any message received as an incoming text and charge u the standard domestic rate per message.
is that really the case...I have numerous numbers registered on google voice, and you can specify in settings which ones can receive text messages...
I would assume that if you set them all to not, it wouldn't forward any txt messages sent to your GV number to any of your other numbers...
so you'd be able to get your txt messages on their website or the android apps...which shouldn't incure any txt msg charges
For some reason I stopped being able to send or receive messages since yesterday. The message sends out and there is no errors but the person does not receive the text. If someone send the text to me I don't receive the text either.
On the AT&T usage data says I did not use any of my unlimited text message plan.
I did recently change my messaging plan from a family unlimited messaging to individual.
My SMS center number is +13123149810
APN is set to default
I am currently on 2.11.26 ICS MIUI build
Any idea what the problem is? Phone problem? AT&T's problem?
Update: Called AT&T they somehow fixed the problem
Stock Nexus 5 on T-Mobile.
Have somehow gotten into a situation where my SMS and MMS messages in Hangouts disappear from view (in Hangouts) if I log out of Google+/Hangouts. Log in - they appear - log out, they disappear.
Have even tried clearing all MMS and SMS, logging out of Google+/Hangouts, and then restoring the SMS/MMS messages. Nothing. No messages seen (in Hangouts). And then I log back in to Google+/Hangouts, and wham! they reappear.
Somehow, Hangouts has decided that all of my MMS/SMS messages belong in my Google+/Hangouts profile, and if I'm not in that profile, I don't need to see my SMS/MMS (in Hangouts).
[Third-party SMS/MMS apps remain OK, however the messages are messed up - wrong order, SMS show with a blank title line, etc]
What is going on, and how can I fix this?
You probably just have to close it and re-open it (if it's still set as the default SMS app), but the bigger question is...
Why do you keep logging out and back in to Google+/Hangouts?

It is kind of a two part app. a standalone sms app and a sms/hangouts app at the same time. When you are logged into hangouts you are smsing in that part of the app. If you sign out you are not longer in the combined app. You are now in the stand alone version. If you don't use hangouts stay signed out. If you do use hangouts stay signed in. It is kind of "it is what it is" thing. It may change later but for now with this first release for integration that is how it acts.

hangouts is designed to stay logged in... but best way to fix it would be get a MSG app and use that for texts and then log in to hangouts when you want to use it.. Or stay logged into hangouts all the time

Would have understood if new messages I sent from Hangouts had ended up in the 'combined' app. But surprised that my old SMS messages from last week, month and year get hijacked into 'combined app' as soon as I activate SMS functionality within Hangouts, and won't show unless I'm logged in.
I updated to 5.0 last night and I am running stock not rooted. I'm currently on a wifi network with cell service. I have been using google voice for SMS and this scenario. Before the upgrade I would get SMS messages through GV over WIFI no problem. After the update to 5.0 i need to go into Hangouts wait about 20 to 30 seconds and new messages will come in. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm looking to make it so messages come in automatically without user intervention.
Edit: Just going into Hangouts isn't enough. I actually need to go into the SMS thread after which any new SMS messages will appear
Hi All - hope I can find some help!
I am using a Verizon brand S4 on AT&T, runnng 4.4.2. I'm hoping the VZ phone on ATT isn't the root of the problem, so trying to troubleshoot everything else. I have not ever had an iPhone or used iMessaging. I am using the stock messaging app. I do not want use a third party messaging app to avoid this problem, I want to fix the problem.
My first problem is that I am receiving picture texts as group messages. I am the only intended recipient. This always creates a separate, new message thread between myself and the sender from the one we have been texting in. Is there a way to receive pictures in the same "original" thread? (So I don't have to go back and forth from thread to thread to send and receive messages. I want them streamlined.)
Next: For any group message I receive or send (including the above mentioned picture texts which ARE NOT supposed to be group messages) I can see myself as a recipient along with the other people. When I reply to the group message, I receive a text from myself. Why? How do I make it stop? This occurs regardless of replying under the "Group" or "Individual" tab. (When using the group, the message I receive from myself stays in the group thread; when using the individual, the message I receive from myself goes to a separate thread I share with myself. Very annoying.)
Again, I do not want to use a third party app to achieve what I should be able to do in the stock messaging app. My old S3 never presented either of these issues in the stock app.
Any help would be much appreciated!!
