Hi!
Sorry if someone has already covered this but I really tried to find threads but I was too confused.
I have rooted two devices before, but this is my first Sony device. I am on latest 4.2.2 firmware with build no.15.3.A.1.12.
If you can please tell me the best way to root my device, that would be great. I want to overclock my cpu and maybe install a custom kernel. Will root be enough or do I have to unlock my bootloader to?
Thankyou in advance,
WahajAyub
hello; this way you can root your device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2591290 u need usb debuging on, unknown sources on and werify apps off for that, also i adive you to install fastbtoo, flashmode drivers (they are in the flashtool folder called drivers) and just in case jdk, sdk.
I dont think there is an option to OC withought custom kernel but i many be wrong
Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply but how can I install a custom kernel? Does it require unlocking the bootloader?
Edit: And could you tell me that does installing pc companion make a difference? Should I uninstall it?
well for me not. there is was and will be problems with pcc so i always install seus instead. they are nearly the same but seus has less bugs
for your first question, yes installing kernel needs unlocked bootloader, there is a guide on the forum so i think rthat if you can (some ppl cant) unlock it you shouldnt have any problems with that
Thanks

Hey guys!
I've just read an amazing thread form DoomLoRD
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527159
All I wanna know is : I can Unlock the bootloader and Root my device properly? Cause I've found others threads that says in W8 the drivers have to be installed manually...:silly:
I've tried to install the flashtool drivers (from the flashtool folder), but an error ocurred. None of them were installed. Any solutions?
PS.: Sorrt for grammar errors!
PS²: I'm new developer
i updated firmware from 15.0.A.1.31 to 15.0.A.1.36, when i buy this phone.
i tried to root after it, but i even cant do PARTIAL ROOT.
motochopper.zip and xperia_L_ROOT.zip both stuck at "daemon started successfully", backup TA(v9.5) cant detect my device.
debugging mode is on and i can see driver installed properly when i connect my phone to my pc.
i hope there is a method root witout unlock bootloader.
anybody has idea or any pros can help?
sorry for my bad english.
Use framaroot...there is thread about it...do some searching

P.S. bad English doesn't matter :good:
You will only get partial root access with a locked boot-loader for full root you have to unlock boot-loader
Try other root tools, first totally unroot if you have installed super su remove it and go to Development options and allow mock locations,[I kept it on while rooting and got succeeded. :good:
Please upload a full video of rooting xperia l

there us one app called framaroot... it gives you partial root access (after enough trys) and that will be enough for TA backup. You will do that backup an afterwards unlock the bootloader. Then just flash extended stock kernel or vengeance kernel for root. Sounds easy right? it is if you have a clue about that flashing thing. Just pay attention about drivers and all will be fine

Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2345499 it work on .31 firmware. On .36 maybe work too.
My bootloader unlock status says no. Is there any way that I could get it unlocked? I badly want to try ROMs and MODs.

Use this:
www/waledacdroid/com /2013/07/how-to-root-xperia-l-c2104c2105-jelly/html
(it's not letting me post the full link properly, so the two '/' in the beginning should be replaced by '.' and delete the space between the 'com' and the third '/' and make the '/' at the end a '.' also)
Looks like it will work for sure.
Try it out, let us know how it goes.

rooting has nothing to do with locked bootloaders. First, those instructions only work on the old ROM. .17 needs a different root method.
Without an unlocked bootloader, the phone won't boot an unofficial kernel, and thus no CWM for ROM's. Your stuck with the official .36 or .17 unless Sony releases an update for us. Some carriers don't allow bootloader unlocking, some do.

What is .17? The build number?? If it is, I have .31.
So if I use this thing, what will happen?
Check the whole build number from about phone in settings menu.and you can root your phone with motochopper method

Phone says I can unlock bootloader flasstool says I can not there is nothing wrong with flashtool if sony could make a rom with out all the bloat ware and crappy apps your never going to use we would not need to unlock the bootloader.
Might be a driver problem (it is on mine just not worked out how to sort it yet)did you enter the code in the phone to check if it can be unlocked?

This happens because you have not installed the drivers from flashtools. I faced the same issue at the start. If you phone say bootloader unlock allowed and even after installing the drivers from the flashtools folder n flashtools it say not allowed .then you can uninstall flash tools and install it agan wiht proper guidence. :good:

Hi mate!
Have you tried to root via this http://www.unlockroot.com/ ?
You can download free version and don't use flashtool via rooting.
If you try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2033114
or something similar to that way, remember about shutting down adb.exe process with ctrl+ald+del and in processes find adb.exe
Give me feedback if it worked
Edit: And remeber about one of most important things: enable unknown sources and usb debugging

You should use UnlockRoot i'm using this because it's fastest way in my opinion. Rooting takes max 5 minutes. As for the "Bootloader unlock allowed: No" i have the same problem mate but you can root using UnlockRoot anyway While rooting shut down your anti virus
