I'd like to see this too, back on GNEX days, there was an app called Logo Me that could change both, but it was only for the GNEX, as it isn't developed anymore.

Yup, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2577081. Even takes requests.

That's the bootanimation. The Boot logo / Splash Screen is before that. The Google sign, mostly with padlock if you're reading this.

As the OP stated earlier, he means the Boot Logo, not the Boot Animation.
The Boot Logo is the "Google" text when the phone first turns on.
Since this was done back on the GNEX, I hope that someone will be able to figure out how to do it for the Nexus 5

+1.. Miss that from GNEX for sure.

Yeah I remember that, had it on my gnex even bought logo me and glados control but sadly neither I think have been updated in a while

+ 1 Would love to know how to change that..
Where exactly is the boot logo (Google with that locked / unlocked key chain is located?)
I'm afraid that it's in the bootloader? Is there anyway to extract it?

For people that are confused, its called the "oem logo" its basically the "Google" text that appears before the boot animation. I remember making these, and it isn't really that hard. Just rgb5 format of an image and then rename it to .egf made it for the old Huawei U8160 phones :')
But those phones had it built into the system and not the boot loader, so this is pretty tricky.

Yea I agree with you. I was however allways wondering what it was called.. I've always tried to get it to change, on my Note 1, s3.. etc.. to feel more Google Like.. never really succeeded.
However I think it can be done, in this video from Phone Tech Kid, he has a STANDARD Galaxy S4 phone, and Google Play Edition rom, installed on it. (We all know, that Google Play Edition Rom, doesn't have Samsung OEM Logo, but Google's one.)
But If we take a look at 50s mark of the video, you will se, that he has UNLOCKED key chain under the Samsung logo.. So I think that the developer of that rom, was able to somehow change it..
What do you guy's think?

It isn't impossible to change it, its just more risky and harder now. As older phones didn't have it built into the bootloader.
If someone finds a way to change it I might give a go at modding and making one, but I wouldn't do it on my own.

+1 on that, If I've had a second phone to play with it, I would try it, but I need my phone for work..

[ROM] [MT3G Fender, LE,1.2] Ported_FR-MyTouchSlidev003c

Using dsixda's rom kitchen and with some trial and error with a few other roms I ran into some luck with MyTouch Slide ROM.
For a while we've been awaiting a stable release and guess what?
Yup! You guessed it! You're still going to have to wait.
This still has all of the problem that the G1/MT3G (1st gen) has except it seems a bit snappier.
As this develops I will attempt to keep up to date with it. Until then if you want to know the progress of this port you should check (perhaps even subscribe if your feeling wild and crazy) here.
To download click the disclaimer at the bottom.
"I accept the fact that if I do not know what I am doing or how to apply this rom then I will research first before asking any questions and will in no way shape or form hold anyone with the exception of myself liable for any damages that which may occur. I understand that I should do a backup prior to clicking and downloading any links and files within this post. I also understand that I am chosing on my own will to continue at my own risk."
(had to use 4shared server because Google Code will not allow uploads over 100mb)
Reserved for future use.
I think that I'll reserve this for future use too just in case.
Have you checked the slide kernel to see if it matches? It should. But the slide ROMs don't have su permissions so no root
flashing rom now will try to follow up afterwards
Wow that's an awesome rom. I can't wait for all the bugs to get out of that rom.
Any recommendations for ext1-4/swap with this rom?

Yeah I showed it to a friend of mine that has an iPhone. Strange enough he HATES the phone and loved the bootscreen. He's saving for a Nexus now. I told him that he's a good man for it.
great setup and actually did run pretty smooth (navigating between screens, use of drawer, basic apps like market ran well). problems that ran into were around apps gmail not loading messages only shows header when trying to open reverts back to inbox with headers. happened also with some random market apps where would not run fully would revert back to previous screen. waiting for later release to correct will go back to older rom for now.
I do enjoy the boot screen on this rom.

I haven't seen a thread yet on changing the splash screen. Do we have a method of doing so yet?

You need to flash a kernel that allows you to change the boot animation. Read the op's for each available kernel.

What an extremely unhelpful and unnecessary reply. Whether you can muster up the understanding or not, people change splash screens on their phones all the time (just check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=938988, or http://forum.xda-developers.com/tags.php?tag=splash+screens). There is nothing unusual about it at all.

I am interested in changing the slash screen and boot animation.
I would like to change the boot animation of a custom rom I just installed to the ICS one, is there a way to do it without the need of re-installing the rom?
The splash screen is built into the kernel if I recall correctly.
I don't believe there is an easy way to change it. Maybe one of our kernel devs could give some input. I know faux changed the splas screen in his kernel but I do miss the ease of changing it on a whim

At the risk of being punished for necromancy here's a little guide by me that explains how to change splash for pretty much any android device http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1575106 (it deals with viewpad 7 but same steps can be adapted easily to any device with any splash resolution with just a bit of common sense )
Hope it helps people who are looking to change splash for "unusual" devices and saves them some time (I had to spend quite some time torturing the VP 7 to "get it right")

Using an app like root explorer,
Go into system/media then copy and paste your current bootanimation.zip somewhere else as a backup.
Then after turning on read/write delete it and replace it with the bootanimation.zip of your choice. (tip) Sometimes you need to name it sanim.zip instead of bootanimation.zip and
Reboot.
[Now back to my lab to try and make a custom boot animation...mwahahahaha.]

Boot animation
Thanks ever so much for your replies:
/System/Media - Attempted those steps and none worked. In that folder there are Qmg files within this folder.
Any other suggestions? As for turning on read write im certain that its turned on as I"m using Root Explorer.
Sorry for the late reply. The splash screen is, the first image that shows then comes the boot animation.
Idk how to change the infuses splash but I kno on the att sgs2 we got to flash a custom image with Odin then run a .bat. This of start the sgs2 has do.
I did at one time try an app that did this, but it messed up one of my files and did a boot loop
.
Sent from my i777 high in the sky
you need a kernel that supports bootanimation.zip. the infusion kernel does but its named sanim.zip instead. if you are on froyo then get the defuse or community kernel infusion froyo for overclock...
on gingerbread you are looking for the entropy DD or hellraiser or infusion gb.
the stock kernel plays a .qmg file which is proprietary and can only be replaced with files from galaxy s phones. if all you want to do is get rid of the att branding then you can take the Samsungboot.qmg or whatever from a galaxy s i9000 rom.
boom.

its not nearly as easy as changing out a zip...you have to edit a database file and push it back onto a read-only partition...
buuuuuut thats only half of it as the splash screen is actually two images back to back
the other image is in the kernel and i have no idea how to f*cks with that
Then why doesn't someone hack it? Or try it...don't talk about it....today I will release Zeus with facial recognition, I didn't say when the hardware was released "idk if infuse can run this or not"....I just grabbed the files and got my dev on....I'm sure the splash screen can be changed....tho I've never tried...I'm sure it can...just grab the files you need and test test test....don't wonder...do it...

maybe this weekend... but really its not that easy.
but I forgot it may be in the kernel not param.ifs and bootloaders. I gotta dig into really old threads. I don't think its in the bootloaders like the i9000 gb bootloaders but if it is I'm certainly not messing with it. if its the kernel then I can take a crack at compiling one from someones github but I've never done it successfully.
the thing is I know who knows about each mod but haven't really ever gotten questions answered..

NICE!!! This worked flawless!!! Thank you!! I just started using Google Wallet for the first time this week and then THIS update comes out???!!!
This description is perfect. I'm not sure what the repercussions are on having it thing it is a Sprint device but I dont see anything different besides the SPRINT CARRIER "Choose the best connection speed" message that came up on first boot. It doesnt seem to affect anything. I imagine 4G will still work, I only have 3G at home but I'll find out for sure tomorrow.
Thanks again for taking your time and getting this figured out.

Sorry for the double post. I just wanted to mention if anyone is else wondering, it does NOT give the unsupported device message at the top. Almost like it is SUPPOSED to be on it.
Weird, mine showed "unsupported device" even after I activated the wallet and set it up.
Edit: figured it out, apparently Google doesn't like when you root and have wallet together so that's why it shows up, all is good!

Actually after rebooting a second time, I then had the UNSUPPORTED DEVICE message. I used it yesterday morning and it worked, but it said to check and make sure it went through. It was acting weird, so I uninstalled the update, replaced the original build.prop, rebooted, and followed the updated instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1794727. Now I am back to the original build.prop, no unsupported device message, and it works normal again.
Hope this helps! Just make sure and followed the update they posted to a T regarding the new Wallet update.
Can anyone help?I'm having a problem installing this...I did everything it said to do
, but for some reason in the Market still says that I can not install this due to my carrier. I can open the app that I got when I flashed the file, but the Google pre paid card doesn't work. Someone help please!

I too get an "this item is unavailable in your country or by your carrier" message after following the instructions in this thread. When rebooting after changing build.prop to the Sprint values, I got a dialog asking for permission to use Sprint's auto-network select feature; however when opening the link in Google Play, it still seems to think I am on verzion.
Edit: I opened the older version of Wallet, authorized it again, and then was able to update.
At the top of my app, it says "unsupported device. Learn more. " and also I can not get the Google prepaid card to work. I followed the instruction perfectly and I'm on the latest update.

Thanks for the help. I actually just did this and it worked great!
just so everyone knows, the "unsupported device" message is not something to fret about. it happens on rooted devices on the unmodified (readfficial) Wallet apk, all functionality if intact.

From the discussions and responses, it seems that it has worked out great for most of the users. I guess I am going to go through it as I am always keen to experience these kind of trials. Thanks for sharing.

The thing is Soul roms are considered Warez in XDA forums. Unless they choose to close one eye on our lonely Butterflys.

Yes I know and I feel for the people who get ripped off with all the hard work that they do. Even trying to get a hold of Boa's new rom is impossible. You join there site get one point a day build enough points up and you still cant get a hold of it. I give up on that one. The best i can do and will do. If there are payed apps on the rom I will delete them and purchase them from the app store. I cant go back. Truthfully this rom is amazing and so is his soul 19.
Apologies to all who think i am wrong in wanting something a bit better on my device and very thankful to all who put all the hard work in to make all these roms.
I hope some other butterfly users can experience what i am loving at the moment on my device.
I am able to get hold of boa rom and I'm also using his soul28 ROM. It feels really good to be able to have a taste of sense 7 before I get my hands on the M9
I have Boa Lollipop V1 and would like to get a hold of V3. Same on soul 28 at the moment and loving this sense 7

Does this ROM work on Butterfly X920d?
Yes. I have a X920D
Anyway Butterfly is gonna lost support soon. Warez roms are going to cease support. Time for a new phone?
I also got the soulrom Sense 7 on my X920E, works perfect, but i like Soul 25 Sense 6 more. I also was looking for a new phone but the only option for me is the Butterfly S because i like the style. One M8 and the Butterfly 2 have the buttons on the display, i don't like that.
With Soul 25 Sense 6 my X920E is blazing fast. Don't think i'm going to buy another phone!
I got stuck on boot few times on my x920e with soul_28, and phone wouldn't reboot on power+vol down . So I had to wait 3-4 hours till battery died. I think it was something in Soul tweaks section

I thought the butterfly already lost support until i found these. I will be getting a new one myself. Maybe something with a bigger screen though. And with lots of support

:good: I'm holding on to butterfly for a little while more before M9 reaches my region.
Tried this ROM. Works great, it is superb.
Very smooth & quite fast.
Never imagined would get Lollipop with Sense 7 on my Butterfly.
Great.
Thanks
Glad to hear. Have fun.

Yup,
Thanks to you guys.
At first the phone rebooted successfully.
I installed Gapps as well. Installed all other software from Playstore.
I made a few changes to the Soul Tweaks and applied a few themes.
When I restarted the phone. It is not rebooting.
Now I am stuck on the boot screen. Tried everything, power + volume down, but the phone is not restarting.
I might have to wait till the battery gets drained.
Is there any other option.? Will the phone reboot after I restart again?
Please advise.

Thats what happened to me multiple times. I had to wait every time for the battery to run out.
Tried everything else and nothing worked.
Just let your phone charge and after charging boot straight into recovery, install the rom again and dont touch the tweaks or restore previous backup.
I think something from the tweaks section is causing this, I restarted multiple times and booted fine but when I changed something from tweaks and rebooted it was just stuck on "htc one" screen.
Nice info buddy..
I wanna take a try, but i dont quite sure what to do.. since google translate just give me more headache to understand the translation..
I have x920d, stock JB rooted ROM, S-ON with kairi's twrp recovery..
Can any of you give me a little guide to install this ROM?
Im not that noob, i know how to install cust ROM, kernel and stuff.. just not sure about this one because its in chinese..
thanks alot before guys..
Are you using google chrome to help with the translation?
You have to download the rom from the russian site 4pda dot ru. In Aroma the first option is X920E, X920D, J Butterfly or Droid DNA, second option is S-ON or S-OFF. After that you can choose if you wanna install Facebook, HTC stock etc. Reboot, wait a couple of minutes and android will update all apps, after that you can select your language. I'm using Kairi's TWRP 2.7.0.3
For S-ON get boot.img from zipfile and use it in fastboot.
