Hi developers! I just bought new SD card, but then i realise that i can`t install apps on SD card. I wonder, is there is a way to do it?
I think the only way is by rooting your phone

First of all you need to partition your sd card to ext2 partition (primary) and fat32 partition (primary) and download app named link2sd from play store, then you can create link for data directories for the movable apps. App2sd.sh script is not suppprted on stock rom, I am porting app2sd suppprt for core and the work is in progress

Another way to install apps on sd. HERE

Hi,
After searching a lot here and other place, I didn't find the solution of my problem.
I have 8gb card.
1st break up
6GB - FAT32 - Primary
rest - FAT32 - Primary.
Link2SD is not able to mount.
Displaying in storage info as - "SD Card 2nd Part." Not Mounted.
------------------------------------------
2nd try, with another breakup.
6GB - FAT32 - Primary
1.2GB - EXT2 - Primary
60MB - L.Swap - Primary
rest - Unallocated.
From Link2SD, I m able to see that sdext2 is mounted.
So for a demo purpose, I installed an application, The auto linking starts but get fails. Not able to create link /bla/bla/ - I/O error.
I did mount that location as RW with root explorer, no luck.
Please let me know what to do and how to resolve it.
Hi
What app did you use to format the sd card?
When i format my sd card using the cwm, i have to format the ext particion using easeus to ext2 particion, witch is the format that the stock rom suports, when i did that, i go to the app, select ext2 and reboot the device, that does the trick
Tell if it works for you

Hi psicop,
Thanks for your reply, I used MiniTool.
Please suggest how/what to do..
I partitioned my sd with CWM and used A2SD, and it works fine.
Maybe you could try to partition it with CWM?

Link2SD automatically moves all files in SD. Its seems better that A2SD. Correct me if I m wrong.
Also, please tell how to flash recovery to CWM ? I downloaded 1 click recovery and installed the v5.0.2.8 , at the time of flashing, it display failed.
Please direct me from where you did that...
Please help someone, my phone memory is full now... i can also add person to my gtalk or y! messenger....
Do you have clockworkmod recovery installed?
If so, partition your SD from there, and if I'm correct, go to Link2sd, and choose ext4 as partition format... worked for me after numerous fails with other tools...
Edit: search for a tutorial to install CWM. That's how I installed it...

Apps in SD not working
I dunno if its relevant in this thread, but i couldnt find the answer anywhere else.
I partitioned my 8gb class 10 sd card and installed link2sd and all was fine. I created links for most of my apps and everything was fine, until I had to remove my sd card for some data transfer. Now my apps that were shifted previously are not working. For your information I use CM11 in my Galaxy ace.

Seems like you have to reinstall them, dunno why but removing the card might have had created problems.

The problem got solved, when I mounted the script again and did a reboot. When the phone boots, link2sd has to update all the links. There is an option available for this in the settings. Anyways thanks :good:

Use the app Link2SD from play store. Requires root. And also a 2nd partition on your SD card to store apps.
There are many tools which can help you partition your SD card but to on the safe side, backup your SD card data beforehand.
Just go through the description of Link2SD on the play store. It should make things easier
But if i dont want to root the xperia?

The easiest way to partition an sd card is via clockworkmod. Advanced/partition sdcard. And choose what sixze of partition you want. This formats the sd though so backup first.

If you want to move apps without rooting, check out this post. It should help
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1162757
But there are some limitations when you don't root. But if you root, you can also get rid of unimportant system apps & bloatware!
Plus rooting is very simple these days thanks to one click rooting apps & brilliant devs!
Choice is yours

Not sure the if the procedure mentioned in the link above works on ICS/JB.

Settings > Applications > move to SD, by defauft you can set in CM settings.
Use App2SD
Use AppMgr III previously known as App2SD, search Google Play for it. Pretty cool app.
Other option is, partition your SD Card and install app there using Link2SD as App2SD won't move all the apps and their data to memory card. However, formatting SD Card and using Link2SD to install all apps to the newly-partitioned SD card is a different story altogether.

dont work
Re
nop nop work "AppMgr III (not pro)"
I'm going to try of partition as you say the "SD Card". Then, it can be simple with an app as "gl to sd" ... to mount partition/s of the inserted sd.
But before, since is the well-read one of @kakolin (in.htcmania) I will try with "Directory Bind" (com.vanpit.android.directorybind id in store). Probably it isn't necessary to make partition.
Greetings

Hello Andrey.
I had the exact same question before some time ago.
Well the easiest method is by installing Link2Sd from Play Store. Its free so no worries!!
It requires root and from there you can choose to install applications to external storage.
(That actually didnt work for me but seems to have helped a lot of people so give it a try! )
If that doesnt work you might try to swap the storages
Which cell phone do you have?
Hello.I have Samsung galaxy xcover 2

Hello,
Have you considered using Mount2SD?
With this application, you can move your applications (user, system or both) or the phone cache on your SD card.
2 prerequisites are needed:
-rooted phone
-an ext partition on your sdcard (clockworkmod or any linux distribution do it well)
link to the application: https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdfilter=mount&fdid=com.spazedog.mounts2sd
How can i create ext partition?Im beginner...
Sent from my GT-S7710 using xda app-developers app
It depend on what you have.
If you used Clockworkmod (CWM) to root your phone, there is an option to format your SD card and create ext partition.
Step to step:
-reboot your phone in recovery mode (for my htc, power+vol down)
-on the CWM menu, go to "advanced" section
-select "Partition SD Card"
CWM let you choose the size of ext partition, swap partition and data partition.
I usually set 512 Mo to ext partition, 0 to swap (no need for me) and remaining for the data.
If you use linux distribution, you can use gparted or kparted.
Remember that creating a new partition will format your data! Make a bakcup!!
I dont have that option in my cwm image.
Sent from my GT-S7710 using xda app-developers app
Maybe too old version. Check if you have the last version for your phone on CWM website and upgrade it if necessary.
Or try an Ubuntu bootable disk.
You can use mini tool in pc to create ext partition in memory card

I have just installed Alien Rom V5 on my ST26. The app looks great and is very fast.
Can anyone tell me if I can link apps to an ext4 partition on my SD card using Link2SD?
I have tried doing this, but apps keep closing.

as i know in this AlienRom, the SD card (external) is swapped into internal SD card so you dont have to link coz all install apps go to external which is now read by the system as internal.....(correct me if im wrong )

I'm aware of the external SD / internal SD swap, but I think apps are still being installed to the internal memory (not the internal SD).
Before switching to AlienRom I was using gavster's AVD Rom and Link2SD installed every app to the ext4 partition on my external SD.
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to prevent apps installing to the phone memory? I have a number of phone only apps which have filled the phone memory and are preventing some app updates and the installation of larger new apps.
Link2SD with an ext4 partition worked so well on the AVD Dark Moon Rom.

why don't you just edit vold.fstab :silly:
I thought vold.fstab only switches between external SD and internal SD. The Rom already does this.
Can vold.fstab be edited to prevent apps saving to the phone memory?
