Is there a fix for this? I don't use GV. Just the standard sprint vm service. I did notice that my phone/messaging service isn't running. (See pic) Back on my gnex i had the opposite issue and would clear and force stop it to get the vm icon to go away. Now i can't get it to notify me on my nexus 5. Any tips?

You pretty much have to use GV if you want voicemail notifications on Sprint with this phone. There's really no way around it, unfortunately.

not a fan of GV, simply due to sms ending up in both messaging and GV.
tried youmail and seems to work fine. i would prefer vanilla voicemail but youmail seems to be the least intrusive.
Should that service be running? Is that possibility why my notifications arent coming up?

are you talking about youmail, or visual voicemail plus?
arent those kind of the same thing as google voice?
I like google voice, you can check you voicemail online, it transcribes(usually poorly, but but better than spring vvm, when i had my epic.)
Google Voice.

yep google voice. sux that any visual voice mail on att not on the iphone is considered a forwarded call and thus uses your minutes but atleast it's not a surcharge like on sprint to use call forward or use sprints transcription service. i used youmail a while back because for some reason on a stock captivate rom that phone wouldn't set call forwarding up to the google voice number for the life of me. if would just fail for no reason. yet it worked for the youmail number. on an i9000 rom my captivate set up google voice just fine. go figure. what i will say is that toe youmail transcription service works better but it is not free, they may still have a free trial for it though.

there is no other platform that has the 3rd party app support and dev comunity. the iphone ui sux. they are constantly doing hacks to get andriod features but they are never as good. meego looks good but few phones have compatable bootloaders.
I can't forward my voicemail at&t number to GV voicemail. On GV app setup when I click configure voicemail and choose GV, it just bring me back to configure voicemail,
I remember when I had my iPhone 4 and some called be on my att number and was sent to the voice mail, the voicemail was forward to GV voicemail.

I had trouble too. Just came from iphone also. You need to log in on your PC not the Google voice app and set it up there Google.com/voice . You should be able to find where it says activate voicemail. Click it and it will give you a long number to call mine started with a *. Enter that # as if you where making a call and press send it will activate your account. I tried and tried to get it working from my phone but ended up going it this way. Good luck

I thought the voice mail limit was set by verizon, not the software on your phone. Hence, why you can get it without directly using your phone if you want.
Voicemail limit is set by verizon, not the phone itself. If you want to have ALL THE VOICEMAILS and never have to delete them, go with google voice - far superior to vzw visual voicemail. (and you don't have to worry about that pesky no-voicemail-icon with gb roms )
How do I get Google voicemail to work?

Call your voicemail?
I've had an issue once where my voicemail was bugged. Calling it would bring me to nothing (no tone, nada) and the notification would randomly popup even after I dismissed it. Calling back my voicemail at some point and deleting the message fixed it somehow.

Don't know how your voicemail works, but mine I have to call my phone number to get to it. Holding the 1 key to call voicemail gave me a similar error.

If you go to settings, then call settings, what is your voicemail service set to? Carrier or Google Voice? If it's the first one, in voicemail settings you can change the voicemail number to the one you should be using.
I have changed the number and still receive that notification that I have voicemails :/

Have you been able to get into your voicemail though? As I said earlier, my notification would popup randomly as long as I didn't listen to the message in my voicemail.

That's probably the source of your problem. I'd call your carrier to inquire about what's going on.
ya....now that I think about it I had that error before I rooted my phone....calling sprint!

Not sure if you've resolved this yet or not, but I was having the same problem. I just went into call settings and changed the voicemail number from "*86" to my personal number and everything fire right back up. Hope this helps.

Google, top results, suggests it's related to T-Mobile and visual voicemail. Do your research son!
Anyone able to find out how to stop this? Apparently T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app triggers this when it's enabled. I want to keep getting the visual voicemails but not have these texts keep getting sent from my phone.
So. I have looked, And looked. Tried XDA, android central, Google search. No answers. Even called Google about this. I had an HTC incredible s before the n5 running 4.0.4. I would be connected to my WiFi. Mobile data would be off. I would send a MMS. Mobile data would turn on, send the MMS and turn off. All the while WiFi was still on. Now after some search it seems this was a code I'm the framework of sense ROMs. The phone was rooted and running mike1986 ROM. Awsome feature. Fast forward to today. N5 will not let me do this. My wife's moto x is the same issue. Now I understand this is not a huge deal to some but to have to turn off WiFi to send AND receive even the notification of an MMS is annoying. Is there any way to get around this? I have tried 8sms, and another app. Can't remember the name. No luck. Thanks guys!
No one?

@montrealer99 use textra does exactly that and can send sms and mms straight over wifi and it uses ur actual phone number
Thank you. Tried it today but still no luck. I find it hard to believe its so complicated for Google to fix this or at least add it as an option after 4.0
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
So it seems that as a battery saving idea, mobile data gets turned off when WiFi is connected. Will not allow MMS to function.

Same thing. Now one person at my work has a n5 on a different carrier and it works. Another is on the same carrier as that person with a gs4 and it does not work. Both are running 4.4.2
