Hot reboot when app tries to pair via Bluetooth - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
my Nexus S does strange things when I try to use apps which use bluetooth.
For example I wanted to use a presentation app which needs an app on my phone and an additional software on my pc. When I connect both via wlan everything works just fine. When trying the same with bluetooth, it shows a "cannot connect to device" infobox on the Nexus for the split of a second and performs a hot reboot.
It makes no difference whether I pair the devices first or try to do this within the app.
This happens with other bluetooth apps, too. Normal file transfer from one smartphone to another or a pc works fine!
Any ideas?
Android Version: 4.1.2
Build: JZO54K
phone is rooted

Try to flash any other rom after wiping all data, cache, /system...

LONG Press and see if you can click Connect
Download Bluetooth File Transfer from the market. Usually works for me. Works even better when both phones have the app installed and running.

Windows 8 Support

Is anyone else having trouble getting their Samsung Galaxy S III (Verizon) to be recognized in their Windows 8 PC as a media device? I have explorer functionality when the phone is in camera mode but in media mode it does not appear in Computer.
I tried the phone on a Windows 7 PC and it works just fine, plug in play. I have downloaded the driver available on Samsung's website, but doesn't have mention of Windows 8 compatibility and during installation also prompts many messages of compatibility issues.
Thanks for your time and any help.
Also, the although I have file explorer functionality in USB camera mode, I am not able to transfer songs to the phone and a message is displayed by Windows that while in camera mode this type of transfer (music) is not compatible.
Did you try Kies air or try to somehow put the phone in compatibility mode to windows 7/vista?
For me MTP doesn't work well at all.
mine works fine.....I can see both internal and external sd cards and all the files on both of them.
Worked fine for me out of the box. Plugged it in and windows downloaded the driver, wanted a reboot and was fine since.
Works for me

SW 2 Bluetooth Problem?

Hi,
I've got yesterday sw2. It is really cool, but sometimes i have problem with bluetooth. Sw2 seems to be connected with phone, but when i start some app, it is loading, but this app don't start. I must restart my watch and then everything works fine, but then when i don't use it for a while it didn't want start against. I am using nexus 5 with custom rom. Where can be a problem?
I am having the same problem. Also a nexus 5 with custom rom. Maybe this is a nexus issue?
Which kernel are you running on the phone.
I am using latest Droidkang rom with stock cm kernel.
Some times I will clear phone's RAM to temporarily resolve this problem.
Any ideas anyone? I have the same problem on stock 4.3 on HTC One Max. It drives me nuts ^^
Stock Nexus 5 has no such issue so I'd start with the kernel /ROM bluetooth compatability. Certain apps seem to lose their state occasionally I've noticed. They generally just need to be closed and reopened though. No reboot has been necessary.

Difficulty with MediaTek devices
I have a Wiko Stairway, which is built on MediaTek platform. Pairing is difficult but possible. I don't know whose fault it is, MediaTek or Sony or both?
Still I find it awkard that I have to install 10MB of Sony software just to establish a faulty connection.
My workaround:
Pair the devices without installing the Smart Connect suite
Install Smart Connect and restart watch
Start Smart Connect and wait a while. It should now find the watch and prompt for installing the add-on
Turn bluetooth off and on on both devices
It should now work
Problem is that every now and then the connection is dropped and you may have to toggle bluetooth on either watch or phone or both. Even sometimes a restart is required.
A work around might be to see if force closing the app 'bluetooth share' temporary resolves the issue. If that's the case you could set up a tasker task to kill bluetooth share every 8 hours or so. You might need a plug-in to properly kill bluetooth share with tasker.

Problems to be fixed in many ROMs!

1. Can't send files to unpaired bluetooth devices.
2. First 4 letters of every unpaired bluetooth device are missing.
3. When connected to computer, device only charges. Doesn't even show the option for USB Storage. Doesn't work even from recovery.
4. After a reboot, notification panel's background resets to stock transparency.
Please provide solution.
it is normal thing with all roms

How to transfer files (photos+videos) from S7 to mac

After using an iPhone for 4 years, I thought it would be refreshing to change.
I recorded videos on the S7 and wish to transfer them to the photos app on my mac. However, upon connecting the USB cable I received a message on my phone saying that it is not compatible and I should therefore install Android File transfer or Samsung Smart Switch. I went on both sites and they said that my phone and mac are incompatible to install those apps... so now I don't know what to do.
Is there something out there I can use to transfer files from my samsung s7 phone to mac?
Try samsung Side Sync or android over wifi

INSTALL Android File transfer (https://www.android.com/filetransfer/), IT WORKS. When you connect S7 to the MAC, it says cannot connected, but a popup appears on your phone. Allow it, end don't disconnect the USB cabel. Once again, start Android File Transfer App. This is how it works. Each time when you plug S7 in, you have to allow the connection on the phone, after that it works until you disconnect S7.
Okay, somehow I've successfully installed Android File Transfer on my mac just now and it works. Usually when you want to install an app on a macbook you need to drag the new app to the folder icon, but the two icons were blank at the time so I was unable to do anything (don't know what I did to make those icons appear just now).
Thanks for the help.
I am using Airdroid, pretty cool app. It has similar features like you have with an iPhone on Mac (recieve calls, SMS, file transfer...)
