Is anyone else having trouble getting their Samsung Galaxy S III (Verizon) to be recognized in their Windows 8 PC as a media device? I have explorer functionality when the phone is in camera mode but in media mode it does not appear in Computer.
I tried the phone on a Windows 7 PC and it works just fine, plug in play. I have downloaded the driver available on Samsung's website, but doesn't have mention of Windows 8 compatibility and during installation also prompts many messages of compatibility issues.
Thanks for your time and any help.
Also, the although I have file explorer functionality in USB camera mode, I am not able to transfer songs to the phone and a message is displayed by Windows that while in camera mode this type of transfer (music) is not compatible.
Did you try Kies air or try to somehow put the phone in compatibility mode to windows 7/vista?
For me MTP doesn't work well at all.
mine works fine.....I can see both internal and external sd cards and all the files on both of them.
Worked fine for me out of the box. Plugged it in and windows downloaded the driver, wanted a reboot and was fine since.
Works for me

Hi all, Ive had my captivate for about a week now and have been playing with it, I've been all over the web trying to figure out why I can't sync it with my pc Ive tried both my laptop with windows 7 and my desktop running XP. Nothing will work ive downloaded the drivers from Samsung's site and kies and kies mini with no luck. No matter what i do it says device not recognized windows has stopped the device and nothing shows up on the phones screen it just shows its charging, I'm guessing its something I'm doing but i just don't know what. Once I had so much trouble I connected a Samsung flight to my PC that's running XP and it worked just fine. Can anyone help me out i want to root the captivate so i can get take off all this att crap!!!
Did you mount the phone after plugging it into your computer? You should pull down the notification bar and it should give you the option to copy files to/from computer.
Also, set you usb settings to mass storage. It's in settings...can't remember where on stock.

Yes I have put the phone in all the different usb settings debugging, media player, mass storage, ask on connection, kies. When I plug it in the only thing that changes on the phone screen is its showing its charging it doesn't give me any option to mount. The same cable will connect my old Flight phone and that phone transfers files just fine. This really has me stumped.
You downloaded and installed drivers from this site? http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/SGH-I897ZKAATT
This may sound random and stupid but are you plugging into a USB that is directly connected to the motherboard (back of the computer)? If you're on a laptop there is no way to test this...basically, there was some issues before of people not having their computer recognize their phone and the issue was too low of power from the USB.
Hopefully someone else can chime in as well. I'm pretty new to this too so I can only think of fairly basic things.
First off, i am running Aeon v1, my computer operating system is ubuntu 11.10 (was a pc with windows corrupted...been sitting for a while installed ubuntu and it works) oher usb mass storages connect fine and copy files to and from fine
im trying to put all my music thats on my phone onto the computer, ill connect it through usb mass storage and the computer will recognize it. I then go to move my music over and it will copy a few songs and then out of no where my phone will disconnect from mass storage mode by itself and media scans will start. No matter how many times i try i get the same result...ive tried every usb port (front and back) ive tried reflashing...nohing works

maybe it's DRM related, you could try connecting your device with adb tho..
adb push /pathORfolderTOcopy /sdcard/destinationFOLDER
I somehow got it working...the only thing I did different was copy the files from my phone to the desktop insyltead of copying from my phone to a folder...not sure of its a Linux/Ubuntu bug or if its my phone....

I had a similar problem once, though the OS was OSX.
My phone would disconnect every 5-10 minutes, it started working again when I changed the USB cable.

I am running the June 19 build of a CyanogenMod based on version 11-20140620-Sultan-skyrocket (Android 4.4.4).
I was working to reorganize my music library and finally dump iTunes. I am experimenting with a new Music Player that requires a USB synch using MTP.
The main reason for the switch from iTunes is that a lot of my Music is Lossless encoded and it just takes up too much room on my phone. I could not find an iTunes synching solution that would transcode those large files to a smaller format during the synch process (unless I go with an iPod / iPhone).
When I switch my phone to MTP mode, the PC (Windows 8.1) does not recognize it. If I switch to Mass Storage (UMS) the phone shows up in the file explorer.
Any suggestions on how to get the MTP working would be appreciated.
Thanks
Go to device manager and look for the the icon with an exclamation mark, with your phone hooked up to usb. Right click on it and update software. Then go to where it says let me pick from a list..... Choose android composite adb interface. It'll ask you if your sure, just say yes.

Sorry for the slow reply and Thanks for the post. Unfortunately Windows would not let me update the driver in error in the Device Manager. It said it was an unrecognized USB Device and would not browse for additional drivers. I tried every way I could think of to "force" it.
Just to help determine what might be going on, I restored the ATT / Samsung ICS using CWM. Unfortunately I am having similar issues with that. Sometimes the USB connects and sometimes it is unrecognized. I tested the cables and my Windows 8.1 PC with my Galaxy 5 (stock ATT KITKAT) and everything seems to work fine. I guess the micro USB port on my phone must be going bad.
Thanks again

So this is very strange. When i use to plug my G2 into my mac and use Android File Transfer everything worked fine. Recently, I went to transfer some files over and I plugged my G2 into my macbook and it automatically chose the "PC Software" option and says "Installing PC Programs, check your computer." I go to select Media Sync (MTP) and it just automatically goes back to the PC software option. When i click Android file transfer it just tells me to plug in my USB. I have my drivers installed for my Mac and i've even tried it on my virtual terminal and the same thing keeps coming up. It's so annoying bc it use to work just fine.
Someone please help me
Have you tried a different USB cable?

Ya and same thing keeps happening. I am using the cable that came with the G2 when I got it. The same cable that I used when I use to be able to send stuff back and forth between android file transfer. It's very very strange
Hi. Got the phone a little over an hour ago. Loving it so far but I can not for the life of me get it to connect to my work PC. Drivers installed fine. Transfer Photos (PTP) works but others are not. Trying to get my music on the phone. Tried plugging the Pixel into my previous phone just not sure how to bring files over.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Did a window pop up on the phone to allow the phone to connect to computer?
PTP also works for me, but MTP doesn't. Ran through the Nexus toolkit, uninstalled/reinstalled and everything.
Same here. MTP not working, only PTP.
found this http://recomhub.com/blog/how-to-connect-google-pixel-and-pixel-xl-to-a-pc-computer/ I'm not able to install drivers though
EDIT:
Tried from a different pc running widows 10 and it worked right away
I just hit the USB notification on my phone and click file transfer, no issues on Windows 10.
Ok guys. I was able to fix the issue by uninstalling the device in Device manager and then uninstalling all android devices in USBDeview. After wich I restarted the pc then got the driver from the link I provided before. It's called latest usb drivers. I extracted them to my desktop and then I plugged in the phone. This time it worked and all the drivers got configured correctly. Hope this helps guys.
Just plugged mine in, works fine, no driver's to install, debian Sid ?
