Dashclock + Nova Launcher
Im pretty sure this is no exclusive to the Moto G, but here's the deal...
Ive just started to use launchers, Nova especially because it feels like stock android + added funcionality... all good, the problem is that i want to use Dashclock widget with it, but everytime open an extension and press the back button it goes back to the stock launcher and i have to launch Nova all over again, as of now this is the only widget that brings me problem with it and while its not the end of the worlds its really annoying
Am i the only one with this problem ? Is there a way to fix it ?
thank you
I remember there being an apk. For the Samsung Galaxy S3 which if installed could give the user root access, I never really seen it again after that certainly not for my HTC One.
Not everyone owns a PC /Laptop so something like this is handy and you don't have to go to the hassle of rooting, unlocking the bootloader is simple enough but having read a bit on there rooting doesn't appear to be as easy, I'm due my Moto G this week and will be using it as a second phone so not in an immediate rush to root but still would like to do so with the minimum of fuss.
So my question is, would there be such an apk. For the Moto G?

Not yet. I am not sure that it will be possible. Samsung devices don't have bootloader the you have to unlock to root. You have to unlock your booloader to get root, and to do that you need to get codes from Motorola. And to do that you need a computer.

the 2013 version of ubuntu I think is heavier, but maybe the 2010 or 2011 is light enough?
I'm not talking about exchanging roms, but virtual machine,is thar possible?

How to bypass activation for wifi use only
Hi, i bought my daughter a stupid kurio so i returned it for a moto g, thinking that i could use it without having to add minutes to it. I was wrong, i have to activate it and add minutes to be able to use wifi. I can still return it for a refund, but i really like the device. I rather not root (although i will if i have to). Ive searched everywhere and i cant find any info. I read post about bp tools but i didnt read any confirmations if it was working or not. Im asking for a activation bypass that will let me use wifi. Thanks in advance!
ps- This is the first time i post on xda, so forgive me for any mistake (like posting in wrong place or something)

I know this is in the wrong section, but I couldn't find a section for the Memo Pad Smart 10 so I'm asking here as the TF300 seems to have almost identical specs.
First off, I only needed a light duty tablet, I have a GNoteII for my phone so I'm not in need of an expensive powerhouse of a tablet as I only wanted a larger screen for some traveling stuff and what not.
But I would like to be able to root and unlock the bootloader on my new tablet once I get it. But I wasn't sure if there was such a thing already in the works, where I could look for it if it is, or if I could somehow help out by providing data from the device when it arrives at my house tomorrow.
If any Dev's out there wanted info from me I'd be happy to help out as much as I can. I'm by no means capable of doing it myself, but I know how ADB works and such so I would be willing to help.

Hey I was on Toshiba forums and they have a root method. By using motocrunch not the bootloader aspect just the root you can gain root that way. The original link to the convo is http://www.transformerforums.com/fo...est-rooting-guide-me301t-android-4-1-1-a.html

Is there a way to 1. Get google wallet to fully function on my Razr HD on verizon? Or 2 if that cant happen, trick isis to not seeing I have root.
Also if I get google wallet to get past the idea my phone is a verizon phone, is there anything in the app for root that could cause problems for me like with isis?

Trust me I tried, the phone is missing the proper OS support with any os before 4.4. Plus the App will ONLY look at NCI. It aint happening untill google updates the chips that it supports and to be running 4.4 so the carrieries can be bypassed.
HCE support is missing from the AOSP stack for NXP NFC controllers. It only works on Broadcom (NCI) controllers. (Unless it was pushed as part of the android-4.4-r1.2 tag...)
So if you have a device with an NXP NFC controller - still no Wallet for you. If your device has the HCE permissions XML (this will only happen if someone made a mistake), Google Wallet will indicate that it's 100% ready for payment, but won't react at all to a payment terminal.
(Another option is if an OEM implements HCE for NXP chips even though it is missing from AOSP.)

I had it working way back before the wallet app was available to all phones, I updated on the assumption that the app would work without it hacked. I got the app from the s3 forum but it was taken down because the dev abandoned it and people had security concerns, all that was done was a mod that disabled the ID checker and told the app the phone was either the Galaxy nexus or the Nexus 4, not sure.
Im just looking for either a build prop edit script that also has the built in undo ability or a modified app by a reputable and trustworthy dev, maybe it was the wrong place to post in the Q&A and I should request a mod to either move to the dev area or FWD the thread link to a few developers to let them see it and have a discussion.
Im honestly NOT trying to start a argument here, I know it CAN be done and HAS before but I cant get instructions how to do it again.

If it can be done on the Razr HD then you would be the first. Many have been trying...search the forum and you will see. The build.prop hacks just dont resolve the issue...with the build.prop modifications you can install the old GW and even start the process of initializing google wallet but then it just hangs there forever. New Google Wallet will install but no tap and pay.
When Android 4.4 comes to the Razr HD then you will have host card emulation and all will be working fine with Google Wallet as it wont need the secure element.
It doesn't even work on 4.4 yet. GW doesn't support our chipset. Once they fix that then we will be good to go.

People, this isnt rocket science, someone hacked the app for a verizon s3 back in the days of ICS. The hack was supposed to just be a simple change and the effect could have been done the same by a build prop edit according to the thread. If its not rocket science how come you do not know how to do it? If its simple you would think there is no need to ask the question. Look people who have been on this form much longer than you have been trying to help you understand its more than a build.prop edit to get this to work. The support is simply not there yet. Google Wallet has also changed a lot since the ICS days. When Android 4.4 comes out for the phone from Motorola then GW will work.
I am using my Moto X daily now so I am not sure about this next statement but CyanogenMod 11 might work for you on your Droid Razr HD if you have yours unlocked. If not wait on Moto to release the 4.4 update and give GW a try then.

There will be no Tap&Pay until someone gets the NXP Controller set up for HCE.
This will require some decompiling of files that are not easy to decompile. Of course, nobody that does this is going to get paid, so, we can't exactly hire a software reverse engineer. I am going to try to get in touch with Dan Rosenberg and see what he can cook up for us. He's the most known software engineer here and responsible for our unlocked bootloaders.
If you want Tap and Pay, the best thing to do is push that Googe+ link that I posted last night (a few posts up) to any social medium you can think of and maybe it'll grab the right person's attention.
ISIS and Google Wallet have nothing to do with each other. Android 4.4+ and HCE made it independent.
What we are looking at:
Decompile NFC.apk, NFCui.apk
Decompile the CPP files in that.
Find out what is missing from AOSP
Add it to CM or make a flashable zip.
If you have any friends, family or anyone that can help out. This is the time. Because it doesn't seem like it's going to get merged into AOSP.

Hello fellow Moto G owners,
I didn't quite know where to post this as I'm quite new to android (comming from Windows Phone).
I'm currently in love with my phone, got the bootloader unlocked, rooted and custom kernel.
There's only 1 thing annoying me right now, the carrier name in the status bar. It takes up a lot of space, and since I damn well know what carrier I'm on, it doesn't need to be there 24/7.
I seached through a lot of threads of people wanting to ADD the name, but none of my results actually showed something to remove it..
Can anyone help me, or is this a stupid question?

Mine doesn't have that, is that only on international version?

You need root access and, in exchange, you will lose the phone's warranty.
Is it worthy? Not for me.
As a past Windows Phone user, you can't believe how much I've craved all the modding there is to Android. To me, rooting is MORE than worth it.

Rooting your phone is more than worth it.
You can always unroot your phone if needed, but it doesn't make sense to me not to root it.
Anyway, like Crisicus said, for anyone who got root and wants to remove the carrier label, just go to my thread and install MotoGuide.
It's worth it.
there is a Xposed module "MotoGuide" can remove Carrier name from status bar. It's the only function of this module.
oh.. the OP found the module.

Whoa guys, a little hostile today, are we? Just because you hate LG's interface, doesn't mean everyone does or even should. I, myself, don't like it either but OP came here asking an honest question about modifying his Nexus 5. We could at least have the decency to tell him what we know, or not respond at all.
Anyway, OP. I personally do not know of any way to flash the G2's ROM to the Nexus 5, or any custom ROMs that were inspired by the G2. Your best bet is to try to download something from the Play Store that mimics what you like on the G2. Just doing a quick search, I found this app. I haven't tested it or anything so I'm not sure how well it works, it's just one of results that came up from searching the Play Store. Seems legit, but like I said, I can't vouch for it.

Except almost every response was worded in a very condescending way. Plus, just saying "Nope can't be done" then the issue getting dropped very rarely happens on XDA. Look at the G2 battery in the Nexus 5, people still haven't given up on it despite a bunch of reasons why it "won't" work One guy said he'd basically hard-mod his phone, taking stuff out, to make it fit. You get that innovation everywhere else on XDA. For some reason this only happens when a feature from another phone is requested to be ported to, or run on, a Nexus device. Since the Nexus (and Android in general) is all about choice I figure hey, throw the guy a bone and elaborate and help him a bit by throwing up alternatives or workarounds instead of providing a brick wall and then moving on with my XDA browsing.
Guess all I'm trying to say is just because some guy might not fully appreciate the Nexus 5 and/or vanilla Android and wants a feature from another phone, one's response shouldn't change from the response one would have given if it were a question about a cool ROM they used on another phone or whatever else (but it commonly does).
If all goes well it should be here next week. I would prefer to have a game plan on what I need to do with the device once it gets here.
Things that I would like more info on are:
Step by step guide on setup out of the box
Should I replace the Huawei launcher?
Any do's and don'ts with the device.
What options I have for rooting and if its worth it?
Thanks for any help!

From what I have gathered it will be the 703L. I purchased mine off Amazon and it is listed as the Honor Mediapad X2 with 16GB of Storage and 3GB of RAM in silver.
I can't believe you didn't get more help. I also just bought mine too GEM703L. And would love to know same exact thing. Which SD card do they recommend. Can I take this SIM card from my current AT&T phone and plug it into the X2 or do I have to go to AT&T store.
I've tried to read a lot and take notes on installing google Play, getting messages to work with textra, etc. But I'm just a rookie

Put your AT&T SIM in and it will read your APN settings from the SIM and just work. If you need to root there is a Root Mediapad X2 guide in here that you have to follow to root it, then you can flash TWRP in Fastboot. First you need to unlock the bootloader by sending Huawei an e-mail with some information and wait for them to reply with your unlock code. It's posted in one of these threads. Search this forum and you will find it. This is the root guide thread to follow:

I think I just expected a little different experience with replies, the fact that they were limited is fine. I just have to start playing around with different things myself, and that's ok. I just wanted to dig in and read what people were doing with their phones and learn some tips and tricks. Going outside of main stream channels to purchase a phone is a new thing for me and I was hoping for more of an experience where enthusiasts who are using the same phone would share what they are currently doing.
I agree. I always bought the next best AT&T Android that I researched. Been with the Note series as I like big phones. This will be my first phone bought outside the norm also and I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm going to keep reading and searching. Wish I knew who the best honor x2 tech guy was and Id hire him to give me personal advice and files etc and step by step what to do to get my phone 100% optimized and functional. That would be great.

Hi! I saw your post a long time ago but didn't answer because I am in the same boat you are! Lol! A lot of what is discussed here is waaaay over my head. (Most of the rooting information - which I don't want to do anyway because I don't want to lose my warranty). I am the type who just wants to pleasantly use a big-#$& screen phone! But I do read ALL the posts and pay attention because I do enjoy learning things along the way. I hope you at least have it working like a great cell phone... that's what I hope for...

Google and You-Tube are my friends when it comes to my Note 3 and I am definitely going to try to do things on my X2 because I feel that the people here have a more important mission than helping me! (I, too, would love my own personal X2 concierge).

I created this thread yesterday. It will get you started. Yes you can replace the stock launcher. I'm using Apex Launcher. You can delete a lot of the stock apps from system/app and system/priv-app once you're rooted.

Thank you so much.
I'm nervous about bricking phone. So I will start with getting the SIM card working with my network. Getting calls and texts working. Getting play store installed. Getting textra installed. Getting it all on English. Getting buzz launcher going. Getting SD card installed and able to read and write. Getting all of my apps and data transferred over in the easiest manner (currently what I'm researching.. Looks like helium is best option)
Root will be down the line a few days. If I get the nerves up to do it.
Thanks again

DITTO. (Except maybe for Buzz Launcher and DEFINITELY rooting). My OCD is also stressing because app icons will just be an all-over-the-place mess without alphabetical order (from what I have heard) so I might be spending some time alphabetizing apps (if that's possible)! lol!

You won't brick the phone. If you get stuck in a bootloop you can put the phone in Bootloader Mode and flash the stock rom through Fastboot.
