Overclocked Xoom? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way to overclock Xoom Wi-Fi running stock 4.1.2? (without using a different ROM)

Just go to the developpement into the setting

overclock winray big part not staying
Running omni winray big part. Keep updated on the releases. Issue I'm having is that the overclock won't stay over clocked. I go to performance and max 1500 min 1000. But after screen goes off and I go back in its back to 216. Any ideas? This is frustrating.

[Q] Can someone attach the stock Xoom Kernel?

I have a US Wifi Xoom and I recently flashed a AOSP OC Kernel and I'm scared that my Xoom will mess up. Today I unplugged my Xoom and it shut off by itself. I couldn't turn it back on the normal way. I had to hold volume up and power. I have a feeling its kernel related since I flashed it last night. Thanks.
For the US WIFI Xoom, follow the instructions on this thread to return to stock:
USA WIFI 3.1 Stock:

Pretty straight forward.
Just out of curiosity, which OC kernel did you use? If you're pushing to 1.6GHz, it may not be as stable as others. There are others - 1.5GHz and 1.4GHz that you can try for more stability.
Tiamat's 1.4.2 Kernels:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978013
Keep in mind though, these kernels are tested rigorously before deployment, so unless you decide to mess with the files themselves, you shouldn't inflict any harm on your XOOM with these Kernels.
I did the 1.5 kernel and I just found it weird because I saw a thread today about someone's Xoom not turning on.

Hello,
Is that possible to have an added kernel to theTiamat list: one without any OC?
Battery consumption is a big concern for me...
Sorry for the post in here but I'm still limited to Q&A on XDA.
You don't have to overclock even though you flashed an oc kernal. I have 1.6 oc and I don't oc at all.
Is there an option to turn off overclock or is the kernel supposed to work with SetCPU or another OC app?
If OC isn't set as default then that's a good thing because I don't see any advantage to overclocking the Xoom.
It was a scare and I don't want it to happen again. Is prefer the stock kernel to avoid any problems.

The OC isnt set by default. It is still set to the default 1GHz.
The kernel just allows you to overclock to 1.6GHz if you wish.
I had another weird reboot yesterday. The last thing I flashed was the kernel.
Might do that sometimes. Might be whatever you were doing. Or the xoom isn't used to the kernal, or just plain don't like it.

Whats your CPU Profiles!

So I have...
My G2x Is running at 1gz\.4 I don't find a need to OV it...
The UV is set at -50 at 1gz and at 800 it is -100 and at 500 and 400 at -200mv.
What are your sets? I would like to see other people's choices. I will report on my battery life later. I can't today since I have been going into recovery mode all morning.
Ps. As profiles go...
I have screen off set to 800/400. I don't like it lagging when i turn my screen on.
I can run stress test easily with my settings. No hiccups or anything.
EDIT:
So I was asked what kernel I'm using... I will post my ROM + KErnel! and just to let you know, my G2x has never had any problems so that may be way my G2x can get -200 on 500 and 400
And I am using faux's CM7 Kernel Version 0.2.4
Full name:
"2.6.32.41-CM7-Faux123-v0.2.4
Mod version
CyanogenMod-EagleBlood_v1.2
Im new to setcpu, good thread for me to learn a bit more from other users...

Yes I'm trying to decide on SetCPU or PimpMyCPU so any info is appreciated

How are you not getting reboot problems with 400 at -200mv? I'm using faux's froyo kernel and when I undervolt at -100mv i get rebooting problems
I replied to your comment in my main post, since other people may be interested in that and that will cause them not to scan the pages.
Bump :\ I would like input
so how is your battery life?
Bad. Something about those settings messed it up. I much prefer just using the custom rom default kernel its much better on the battery

My chip could only use faux's OC 1.2ghz, using the kernel OC 1.5 would cause my phone to boot loop. I could go stable @ faux OC 1.2 with minimum UV, getting qudrant score of atleast 3000 - 3500. Another kernel that i tried is MOrfic's, I can go stable up to 1.4 Ghz/minimum UV- quadrant of atleast 4000-4300. I believe i have what they say as the "weak chip" though running OC @ 1.4 ghz doesn't make it look weak. Thanks to the great DevS!

[Q] overclocking inspire 4g

I'm new to the forums here and I just installed CM7 on my phone the other day. Ive been trying to overclock my phone but every time after I install it, the phone is so unresponsive that I have to reload CM7 again because its unusable. The bottom home and menu buttons don't work either. Does anyone else know why this is happening or the solution?
Overclocking is built into cm7. You don't need any other app

How are you trying to overclock it? What are you setting it to? What type of governor are you setting? Mine locks up when I use SmartassV2.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103414
i personally use the tiamat kernel and setcpu to overclock on cm7, since the stock cm7 kernel only goes to 1.5, but still even without overclock cm7 is never unresponsive or "unusable".
I've had mine oc to 1.2ghz and min is all the way down on ondemand setting. Im using absolution right now and I'm not seeing the greatest of battery life like i did with cm7 and talonace's kernel. but I just turned off all animations on the phone today so I'll update you tomorrow
I actually underclock with CM7 and it's still snappy and responsive. Slows down a bit when syncing, but otherwise it is solid even when clocked under stock.

[Q] rooted xoom not overclocking???

Hi, i have searched the forums, but haven't been able to find an answer, simply put i don't believe my xoom is overclocking. I have been testing it with an app called neocore, but have tried quadrant as well. It doesn't matter if i am at 1000 or 1700 Neocore always says that my xoom runs at between 34-36 fps, which is the same as when it was bonestock, quadrant is the same. No change in animation speed or results no matter what i have set the clock too. I currently have eos nightly 77 for 4g on my xoom, I was using the stock kernel that came with the rom, and recently downloaded the.3.0.5 tiamat overclock kernel, which after flashing think it was the same(I am a noob). I was originally trying to use android overclock to adjust my settings, now have completely uninstalled it and using eos's settings, no change. What am i doing wrong, or have missed?
Thanks for any help you can give me
For increased smoothness in animation, etc, I believe it is the overclocked gpu that helps as opposed to the cpu. Not all the eos kernels are overclocked. Quadrant score appears to be meaningless. Believe me, the eos kernels permit overclocking. What governor are you using? Is your setting stable?
I have it currently at interactive, after you mentioned the governer, i put it to performance and ran the neocore benchmark to see what would happen, 38.2. Well if it requires a gpu overclock that would make sense that i am not noticing a difference with the apps i am using. But raises another question, what is a overclocked cpu good for? More apps running at once? My overclock is ALLOT more stable with 77, i was previously on 74. Before it would get glitchy allot more often, and random reboots on anything above 1000. 1400 and i was having to watch the temperature, 1500 seemed to work the best, but still got random reboots (still better than what I got on honeycomb. I still get glitches here and there on 77, but still have yet to get a.random reboot.
Unrelated to my topic, thank you so much for your guide to rooting and romming, i had read a couple others and hemmed and hawed about whether to do it, even though my mouth watered about the benefits, your guide made me clap my hands together and say "let's do this"
I went back over the kernel I downloaded and flashed, it is the team tiamat overclocked gpu 3.0.5 kernel that was realeased 2/19/2012... sorry, this stuff is new to me so I am learning as i go along

No problem...the EOS nightlies are on a newer kernel, but I think the lastest don't have oc gpus.

1.6Ghz or 1.7Ghz max?

I have an unlocked and rooted but otherwise stock TF700t. I downloaded setCPU and tried to go to 1700Mhz max but it will not go above 1600. I have tried setting min 1700Mhz, tried changing governors and schedulers, but nothing will make it go above 1600Mhz. Is this something ASUS has locked down?

You should go and try custom ROMs and especially their kernels to overclock.
I don't think the stock yet rooted kernel allows overclocking.
For what it's worth, running the Zeus ROM, CPU Master reports 1700 Max... Although, I don't think it has anything to do with the kernel in this case (it uses stock kernel) - I think the max speed can be tuned via some settings at the OS level (via root, of course). Take a look at the cpu1.sh, cpu2.sh and cpu3.sh scripts in /etc - they are the PowerSave, Balanced and Performance modes (those scripts get run when switching modes).

I have stock + rooted, I can selected 1700 with SetCPU. This is stock speed, no over clocking, no custom rom required. Do you have the latest update (version .26)?
If it is set to run at max, it will run at max when needed. AFAIK it's 1700 for the 1st core and 1600 is for multi-core use.
I too have seen tbis happen except im using system tuner to set it to max. When i set it to hit 1.7 it seemed it only ran 2 cores mostly one. Not all 4. When i set max to 1.6 all 4 cores are on.
