[Q] fastboot HELP [SOLVED] - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So latest AOKP nightly is broken and I didn't have a backup. Yea......
SO... when flashing factory images with fastboot, can I just flash system.img and data.img and the device will boot, or do I need to flash every file (cache.img, userdata.img, recovery.img, radio.img)? I don't want to lose my files in internal SD card :/

System.img and boot.img
However if you were on aokp before the update, you'll probably need to factory reset before it boots.
Did you try a factory reset anyway? Maybe this nightly needs one? Or can't you just flash the previous rom you were on?
Not enough info here to help

not enough info because I was fixing it while writing this and just "compressed" the info. Anyways I already fixed it, thanks still

Yeah the only thing we really would have needed was the state before you flashed the nightly because from aokp to stock requires wipe and vice versa so any help we give would need to be based on facts.
Glad its sorted though

update to 4.4.1 on rooted stock rom

hey everyone
i have a nexus 5 running stock rom krt16m with custom recovery and franco kernel . does anyone know how i could update to the new stock 4.4.1 without wiping the phone ? if i have to wipe it , thats fine. i just dont want a custom rom right now . kit kat is perfect so far as it is .
thanks guys!
Fastboot flash system.img and boot.img from the 4.4 factory image. check out the stickies in the general forum.
If you can flash the stock kernel from somewhere you should be able to flash the update in recovery without losing any data

Yes you can grab the OTA update from HERE and then just flash ontop. Make sure that you wipe the cache and Davik but it should work fine. You will need to reroot but that shouldnt be too hard just make sure you boot the device before you re root, You may need to flash back to the original kernel, but i beleve it updates the boot block.

Need help finding stock recovery.img for 4.4.1

For the nexus 5 I want the stock recovery.img for 4.4.1
I know a lot of you push CWM & TWRP onto the device, but I don't want it for security, just makes it that much harder if someone steals it to flash over my install.
Edit: should say thanks! And I have tried to look unsuccessfully

Yeah, but only fount KRT15M
Edit: guess I could flash factory, flash the OTA update, then somehow grab it from there.
Should note that I flashed CWM over it, and am just trying to go back to stock recovery.img without wiping everything to get OTA to work

Ah, perfect thsnks
There's no factory image yet. Not sure if the ota has full recovery, patch of recovery or no recovery... download it and have a look.
If it contains recovery.img - there you go
If it contains nothing - download krt16m
If it contains recovery.img.p - you'll need someone to rip it from their device

4.4 is the only one you'll find. The 4.4.1 patches 4.4. There is no recovery in it.

Yeah, noticed the recovery.img.p, I'll wait for the full factory image to come out.
The reason I ask is because stock recovery 4.4 doesn't work in 4.4.1 bootloader/radio.
Thanks all around
i'm also looking for the stock recovery for 4.4.1, so I can update to 4.4.2.

twrp 2.6.3.4
So I can just flash the update.zip with twrp? I don't need someone to make a flashable? doesn't the update.zip for 4.2.2 have changes to stock recovery?

1) DO NOT USE TOOLKITS. We Think it is better to learn the steps yourself by following teh "how to unlock bootloader" tutorial stuck at top of general forum.
2) If you read the guide in General (see answer 1), you cannot root until you have CWM recovery. So yes, you cna take a backup before root. However, you cannot have CWM until you unlock bootloader, and unlock bootloader wipes device.
Backup solutions all in "How to unlock bootloader" sticky thread in general.

No you don't need root to take a nandroid of android. Root only affects android when its running,.giving the user access to the root of the device, but recovery already has that access so no binary required in android.
Can you fastboot boot without unlock? If so then it must be possible

Has anyone tried the adb backup on the Nexus 5? I imagine that'd work as a backup solution before unlocking. That or Helium

Ditch the toolkit (save a puppy). Learn about fastboot and adb. Learn about custom recoveries, rooting, and all it entails. Learn how to troubleshoot should you run into any issues. Do your homework first to save yourself the trouble of having to start another "Help I bricked my phone" thread.

Finally, i tried. I have unlocked the bootloader, however, i try to flash the custom recovery CWM, it just start for once, and prompt me to root the device ( i reject). In my case, i trust i may not flash CWM without root.
But i got one more question, when i flash the CWM and it start for once, just like temp boot in CWM, may i try to make Nandroid backup on that boot?
Thanks

As previously stated, recovery does not need root. In fact you need CWM recovery (or TWRP or Philz) to flash root anyway. CWM DOES have a built in root checker however, which is probably the message you're seeing. You do not need to root Android before you take a Nandroid via recovery.

Sorry for my long questions...
I unlocked bootloader and try to flash CWM without root, and make a Nandroid backup already, but when i reboot and get in recovery, still getting in Stock recovery. So do you think the backup can be used, while i root my N5 and flash permanent CWM on my N5?
Sorry for my bad english again.
Thanks for all.

Bootloader unlocked
Boot in bootloader
Cd path
Bootloader flash recovery recovery.img
Press reload bootloader
Press recovery mode
Cwm comes up first time, so can do whatever funtions they had
Once reboot from CWM, it states fix root yes or no, and ask me fix
I press no
That reboot back to the rom automatically
Once i try to reboot to recovery mode again, CWM gone, but still can load in stock recovery
That is my all procedure to flash CWM
Thanks

Afterward, i am trying to root and flash custom kernal (Elementalx).
If i wanna get back to stock kernal from elementalx (in case, OTA update), do i only need to flash stock kernal?
Because i am interesting with the sweep2wake option in Elementalx.
Thanks.
Some kernels flash scripts so its best to restore a nandroid probably.

TWRP Recovery issue
Good day, I have an LG G3 D850 rooted on 5.0.1 OTA with stock recovery from unjustified dev root. I flashed twrp from the instructions here with flashify and later tried with rashr, I Also tried to install it through cmd adb on my pc. When I try to reboot to recovery (from rashr/flashify, and even manually) I get a boot certification error and then I guess a boot loop. The screen goes black and the led flashes red and blue. I have to take the battery out to restart. I must be doing something wrong. Any ideas?

Did you resolve this issue? If so, how'd you do it. I'm having the same one.
No, But I believe they have a fix here where you would have to flash a kit kat bootloader. From what I read this, method works. I just feel more comfortable waiting for it to be done with all lollipop coding.
