I've looked everywhere, and I can't seem to find an application that will allow me to transfer a file from my Nexus 7 (2013) to my computer without actually using my computer. Is this not possible? Thanks for help.

When you say not using your computer I gather you mean not plugging it in to the computer?
Use Google Drive? It's free, just upload it to your drive: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.docs
Install this on your computer: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/drive
You're done. :good:

Ha, yes, the cloud, but I should have clarified: colossal monstrosities of files that won't fit in Dropbox or Drive or whatever else. This?

Yeah, I meant like more than one, and without having to buy like, a corporate account.
Thanks for the other suggestions though. I've tried Airdroid, I got annoyed at it but I'll give it another shot and check out that other one.

with the 720p recording on this phone, im thinking it would make a kick ass webcam...is that even a possibility though?
Root your phone, get DroidVNC, forward your ports correctly on your router.
Start droidVNC (you gotta be on wifi), start your camera app.
Now login to your ip with the port, and enter the pin code in droidvnc setting, and bam, you see your phone's camera. heck u can even control your android now.

It's not slow? What is making you say that? If you are referring to USB transfer speeds that is not the sdcards fault.

nobody can because we don't know what you're talking about. the nexus s accesses the file system at a very fast rate.
he probably means that he has slow transfer rates form pc to internal sd card, if that so, then maybe this help him.
Mine is slow to my files will only transfer at 1.4-1.9 m and my wifes same phone copys at 8-9m/s any way to fix this

Yes, don't bring up old topics. And use the search function.
But otherwise there's many ways. Transfer from within CWM. Use MTP. Or check my signature, even!
Hey guys,
I used to stream my iphone screen to my PC and was able to control it using keyboard and mouse. Is there a similar way to do this with the skyrocket? It makes it convenient here at work. Thanks!

Try this. It is what I used when my screen was broke. Make sure you have adb running, else it will not launch. Another thing is it is not working anymore on my particular ICS Rom. Should work fine on any GB rom, though. Hope this helps!
Here is the link to the google code page for this project. I take NO credit for this helpful app whatsoever. Devs and further info can be found here- http://code.google.com/p/androidscreencast/
Note- It is a bit slower than your probably use to, but it is the only app I could find for our device.
^^ Thanks. Testing it now.
Our new app, VMLite VNC Server, should fulfill your needs, it does exactly what you need, to control android phones or devices from a PC, so you can use the external keyboard/mouse, etc. We app has fast responses, and works on rooted or non-rooted devices.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vmlite.vncserver&hl=en
so far our users like it. You can simply click a button to do USB connection:
more info here:
http://www.vmlite.com/vaac/#usb_connection
i use a program called MyPhoneExplorer and the corresponding Android app is in the store.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 AT&T and I also have a busted screen. I am trying to just pull my pictures off of it before my replacement arrives. I downloaded the SDK package you linked to but lack the knowledge to just get it to link to my phone via USB. To complicate matters I had it pattern locked but since I can't get the screen to work at all I can't unlock the phone. If I could my computer sees the phone as a portable device but won't show me any of it's files. Any pointers would be helpful.
Hmm
Well, I have a HDMI IN port in my rig . And with a MHL adapter, works perfectly fine on Windows 8.

I use an MHL adapter as well but will matter if the screen isn't functional? As far as I'm aware you still have to direct it via the touch screen....

Hi
I just got my OnePlus 7 Pro and I've tried downloading some torrents.
On all my previous devices I could play the .MP4 file, for example, while it was still downloading, almost simulating a stream.
OnePlus 7 Pro on the other hand, simply doesn't work, can't play the file, as if it were corrupted.
Has anyone tried? Or explored this side?
Can someone help to fix this? Workaround or something ?
Please
Thank you.

It's dependant on the torrent client, you need to download in sequential order.

I tried with the app flud, for example, and I enabled sequential download and doesn't work still.
Plus on the other devices that isn't needed.

How can it not? I can literally use another OLDER, CHEAPER android phone and it works.
So I do believe it has something to do with the phone OR android version Q.
Either way doesn't work, and it's something I do need at a lot for work.

Hi, I have a Mac and a new Pixel 7 Pro, but have been having problems getting the Mac to access the phone as a USB device via Android File Transfer. I started using Google Drive to transfer music but everything just lands in the Downloads folder. Then I found that the cable you use makes a BIG difference. Suprisingly I have been results using a Kindle cable with an Adapter! Anyone have similar experience or better suggestions for File transfer? Photos I can do Via Google Photos & documents/Ebooks via G. Drive, it's the music files that are troublesome...
Cheers, Greg.
I've read that Mac users were having success using USB hubs. If you have one around might want to try.

On your Mac, download Macdroid. Works every time now even with a type-C to type-C cable.
Also if you plan on using Android Flash Tool or Pixel Flasher, you will still need a hub for a type-C to USB-A cable.
MacDroid, have not heard of that one, will check it out, thanks...

OpenMTP ( https://github.com/ganeshrvel/openmtp ) and MacDroid is the best option
I still lean towards OpenMTP because it's free. Donated to the dev already tho, such a good app deserve appreciation.

Exactly. Hahaha. Way too much when main purpose is simply a file transfer.
Google messed up big times with AFT tho. If they want to sway more users from apple ecosystem, they need to make their platform work together better with apple one, but instead, they put halfass*d effort by never updating their app, and let 3rd party dev do the job for them.

Thanks mate for this recommendation. Was forever stuck in trying to connect my Pixel to my Mac. Strangely Android File Transfer was able to identify every other Android device except for Pixel. Finally, gave OpenMTP a try and it worked in one go directly via a type-C to type-C cable [just had to uninstall AFT as it was always conflicting with OpenMTP].
Been using a chunky USB C to USB C cable to connect mine to my MacBook.....works most of the time. I have always found AFT to be flaky on the Mac.....and temperamental.
I also have an Xperia 1 IV and luckily Sony make Xperia Companion for Macs which works a treat
