[Q] Horizontal Lines while recording video in low light - Nokia Lumia 1020

When I try to record video indoors I can see horizontal lines of noise in the video. It generally is only visible in solid brown colors. It looks similar to regular noise from low light except it is in lines. Sometimes it even purple hues. Unfortunately, I upgraded to Lumia Black before taking any videos so I don't know if this is a software glitch in Lumia Black. Anyone else with Lumia Black seeing this problem? Thinking of getting mine replaced as I also seem to be getting the Mura Effect on the screen and want to see if maybe I can solve two problems at once.
Thanks,
Craig
So I just had my phone replaced. The screen has some other defect, no Mura apparently but it was something else. The new one doesn't have the screen issue nearly as bad but now the horizontal lines anywhere are still there. I also tested before and after Lumia Black. Amber, the lines looked different but they were there. This does appear to indicate a hardware issue with some refurb phones as the lines are in a different spot on this one. The first had it on the the right side only. This one has it milder on the right side but also has it across the top.

Damaged Screen?

I have a HTC Touch Dual and is going to be about 3 months old.
I randomly decided to open VSPainter today and noticed that in one area of the screen there is a faint bluish hue in one area (a circular area about half the size of a pea). If i tilt the device and look at it at an extreme angle it can be seen clearly. You cant really see it unless the screen is white. It wasnt much of a big deal until I investigated further and drew lines in VSPainter across the region and noticed that the lines would 'bend' around the spot.
I think this problem could have been caused by some pressure on that area of the screen...but I could be wrong.
Since I've only had the Dual for 3 months, do you know if I'm covered by any manufacturer warranty? (Im in the UK and on Orange).
Is there anything else I can do?
Hasn't anyone come across this kind of problem?

Oh god, dust and dead pixels are my ocd's worst nightmares. I get so depressed when I see them Color Banding will soon be joining them too
You should add a no issue selection.
how?
Wheres the "no problems" option?
Mine has very minor light bleed, but thats it. Its only noticeable if I'm looking at a pitch black screen in a dark room.. so its pretty much no problem
Only issue I'm having is that the screen is too bright for the auto brightness.
Other than that it's perfect
No issues. But there's no option for that in the poll.
Gradient banding and light bleed (bottom right corner).
I have a yellow screen. But for me, I am getting intermittent screen flickering, specifically in Chrome and Messages.
Furthermore, I already have tons of micro scratches on my screen. Have no idea how they got there. Glad I picked up a screen protector for $3 on amazon and Ordered a Seidio Active Case also. Don;t want this beautiful screen to get a jacked up.
No issues here either.
No problem at all here! Gray one X.

You could try Juice defender. It has an option to change the auto brightness, both the maximum light, and the average light (and minimum)
Only thing I miss there is an option to disable it while charging or in the car.
My only issue is banding. For those who DON'T have banding, I would appreciate if you'd check out my thread on the issue, especially if you're able to post a photo of your phone's screen.

Thanks!
no issues for me either .
banding sometimes but minor , and isnt that software related anyways?

I don't think so. Take a screenshot when you see banding, then look at the screenshot on your computer or on another phone. When I tried that, I saw less banding on the computer and on my old Captivate than on my One X, viewing the exact same image.
I have banding, but it seems more like a software bit-depth issue than a physical problem with the screen.

Guys, I wish it were this simple, but it doesn't appear to be. I can use Paint.NET to make a gradient, and view that same image file on many screens, and my One X shows more banding than the others. It still doesn't look as bad as the One X's app-uninstall screen, which is likely because my gradient is linear and theirs isn't, and so on top of there being bands, they're also unevenly spaced! But there's no denying that the bands are there (at least on mine), and they're more apparent than on the other displays I have access to (another phone, a laptop, and a TV).

I meant a driver-level firmware issue. When I had the Nook Color, there was a kernel that enabled lower bit-depth to speed up the boot, but it introduced banding like this. There was another kernel that could show full 24-bit color and had no banding.
So just loading an image onto the phone isn't proving that is a hardware issue. This just makes my argument stronger with the uneven banding being related to bit-depth and not hardware.
I have no screen issues! @TinyBoss I saw your other post and I have to say your banding does look bad. I was leaning toward software until I compared mine to yours and I'm thinking you have a bad display...

[Q] Uneven grey on bottom of screen?

I took a look around and didn't see anything similar, but it seems like the bottom left corner of my screen is brighter than the rest when it is grey. It's not super noticeable, but you can kind of see it when the nav bar changes in the settings menu.
I assumed it was backlight bleed, but I don't see it when the screen is black, only grey.
Does anyone else have any experience with this? I don't know if I am just crazy or not., i.e. is this even a possibility.

Try a screenshot, and a photo. Does it only appear on one of those?
Doesn't show in a screenshot. However, I went and looked at a display model and it was somewhat similar... At this point i think it's minor enough not to mess with. Especially since I don't have any of the other issues.
e.: It looks like its the back light shining. I guess the weird part is that I don't see it on a black screen.
The same here. The phone is Rev.2, 10.10.2014. This issue is on many Z3 phones, because i had at least eight Z3 phones in my hands for the last 2 monthes, and almost everyone has an uneven grey (white) or some kind of shadings on bottom of screen. I don`t know what`s the problem, i`m a little bit hate Sony for that, i buy a expensive phone, and it have such a problems, maybe this is not so much critical, but for me it is unpleasant thing.
---------- Post added at 03:54 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:41 AM ----------
And, by the way, for those 2 monthes i still didn`t found a "perfect" Z3. Everyone has an other issues: if the screen was ok, it has a uneven gaps between screen and frame, if there`s no gaps on the screen, there`s a caps with gaps, if there no gaps at all, there`s a problem with the screen, and, as i wrote earlier, almost everyone phone i looked has a uneven grey (white) on bottom of screen, but some of them has a gaps problem in addition to the problem with the screen, and some of them didn`t, but from those 8-10 phones i looked in a last 2 monthes, noone has no problem at all! This is sad, but it`s true. Or maybe i`m so lucky
I went in and got it exchanged as it was bleeding light from the gap, and now this one is worse, and on both sides. I was told by the sales rep that "All of ours are like that, it must just be how its made", and they wouldn't give me another. This one also has a pink spot on the camera. I am going to another store tomorrow. At this point I can deal with the uneven grey, but not this. I'm going to tell them Sony said the light in the gaps was a manufacturing defect... even if they haven't directly said that.
Got a third one.... better, but same issues. It is lighter in the bottom right corner of the screen, but since you have said that seems to just be how most are, I'll probably just try to get used to it.
same issue
I have exactly the same problem but with the colour white, the lower right hand side of the screen is a tad bit darker than the left when the screen is displaying a white colour, one has to really observe the screen carefully to notice it,however it is a bit irritating after you learn that you spent so.much on a phone with this kind of problem, Sony should really step up heir quality controls.
For me it's the lower left corner that's slightly darker (or the lower right corner that's brighter, whichever way you want to look at it). I've had so many Z3's in my hands and this issue is pretty common. Though it has to be said that grey is a very difficult color for displays in general as it points out even the slightest non-uniformity. It's not surprising that a solid grey screen is recommended for TV's if you want to test for clouding or DSE.
I think in the end we should just let it be if its a general problem, it shouldnt spoil our experience with such a great handset.

Pink tint/hue

I am wondering how are your units in regards to famous AMOLED pink shift?
Mine seems to be a bit more pink on the side making whites and darks looking uneven.
Looked at display units around shops and all units had it to some degree, also YouTube videos shows a pinkish screen nature.
How is your one?
To me pink shift implies that it turns pink when tilting the phone or viewing off angles. I don't have any problems with that however the regular OLED color uniformity is an issue on my device. Nearly ever OLED phone I've had has had some issue with this and I think some people are just more sensitive to it than others explaining why it's a non issue for most people and a huge issue for others. My Pixel 2 has a pink tink at the top 20% of the display which is minor and think most would either not notice or find acceptable. It bothers me a bit but it could be worse and I'm not sure I want to go through the trouble of RMAing the device until I get something better (OG Pixel took 3 tries and then I gave up and accepted the problem, but then my 3rd OG bricked itself and they sent me a 4th with a nearly perfect display yay!). Pink on the side or diagonally across the display is the worst I think as it's really noticeable when reading text on a white or grey background. At the top is the best case scenario for me as it's only really annoying when reading content in landscape orientation.
I spoke with a Google Tech at length today regarding the different color tints on our devices (mine is blue) and he assured me that the tinting was intended with the new screens. On a side note I notice while out in the sun when it's hard to see my screen, if I tilt slightly my device, the Blue tint actually helps me to see my screen better. Not sure if that was intended or not.....

Horizontal lines across the entire display?

Anyone else experience anything like this? I've just started noticing that there are faint lines all up and down the screen. There doesn't appear to be a reason they show up, and they don't always stick around. In fact, they seem to fade in and out.
Once you notice them you can't un-see them though. I doubt this is something that would come across in a screenshot, but I will try to take a photo with another phone and post it.
Well I finally have some pictures to show what I'm seeing. Hopefully I'm not the only one?
everything fine until now here
did you contact the xiaomi support ?
Check that it's not just colour banding in your wallpaper.
Absolutely not just my wallpaper. I notice it most on my keyboard, but the lines are up and down the entire display regardless of what is on the screen.
Since I bought the phone from an eBay reseller in the US, I highly doubt they'll consider my warranty valid.
Hi, yes, I have the exact same thing happening. It started like half an hour ago, I've been on a walk, with a headphone plugged in for 2 hours. When I got home, I noticed the stripes especially on colors that are not entirely white, like the notification shade pulled down on a white background. Now it starts to fade away and is barely noticeable. Did it go away on your device, or it still persists? Did you do anything about it?
