Moto X like ROM for the Nexus 5? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After seeing all these phones at the end of 2013, the Moto X has some sick features. Is there anyway to flash a rom with those features or can I just get most of them through the play store?

Which features you looking for?

He's looking for Active display, Moto Assist, and Touchless control.
You can get them all from the play store. Omni ROM has Active display. The rest are available on the store.

They are only compatible with certain Motorola devices so you can't just download them from the play store like that.
@kyco16- Those aren't just software features, some of them take advantage of the actual hardware of the X. The touchless control is made possible by the X8 chip, and Active Display takes advantage of the AMOLED screen and uses one of the low power cores of the X8 chip as well. Yeah, there are similar apps available now but they just aren't the same. You want Moto X features? Get the Moto X. I have one and there has never been an Android phone like it. Seriously the best smartphone ever made, without a doubt. Motorola just dropped the price too. $399 off contract for 16gb.

@_MetalHead_ I meant knock off features. The copy cats. They have similar apps in the play store.

Nexus 7 or Others

Hi Guys,
I am currently have Note 10.1 3G version and I am eying to a smaller form factor Nexus 7 (second gen?). Do you think it would be worth to replace my current tab to Nexus 7? Or maybe Note 8.0 ?
I am looking a portable yet powerful tab. I dont watch full length movie or play intensive games on tab. What i need is to be able to check my emails, fb, chat with friends, play bit of simple games , skype, Google apps, maps. I also need a tab thay has capability of wifi hotspot.
Your thoughts please.

its time to try new generation laptop-tablet hybrid
waiting for N7 2nd gen
I suggest waiting for the 2nd gen Nexus 7. It may be the best 7" tablet on the market when it comes out and it could be only $200-250 if they price it like the first gen. The rumor is that it will be announced next month, so let's wait and see!

The second gen nexus 7 when it is released would be a good buy because it can easily perform all the tasks you need it to do. If you are in a hurry you could just buy the first gen nexus 7.

Nexus Suggestion
I do agree with the others, I have bought 2 Nexus 7 tablets 6 months ago and I agree that having 4.2.2 out of the box is awesome considering some of the latest phones are just starting to get it, they are ahead as far as software goes. they are lean with an AOSP interface but as well as they are stable, Ive found that the battery as much as it should be awesome is not stellar on either of the 2 I own. I am not hypocritical of the device as I think they're awesome but for the $199 they are worth it.. and if the 2nd gen matches in price with improved specs, it's a win-win...
Cool.. Thanks guys. Im sure the new nexus 7 is worth buying. But we are not sure when this new device will be release, but still I'm holding for awhile

Moto X to Nexus 5

Has anyone here switched from the moto x to the nexus 5? What are your thoughts and are you thinking about going back? I got my nexus on Tuesday and although I've always had nexus devices this one is just OK, so I've been thinking of trying the moto x.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
ditto
Moto X has a more immersed Google Now and no KitKat. I think this Nexus will have more Google Now support via CM11. It's possible via our Snapdragon 800 chip.

I had both and returned my original nexus 5 because the Moto X has much better features and better in hand fell. I would have kept my moto X hands down until I won a nexus 5 at that point i returned my Moto X for a full refund saving almost 700 dollars. IfI had to pay for both of these I would buy the MOT X especially now with thee discounted price
Been thinking about picking up an X and return this N5. So disappointed with this device.

I would've gladly paid another 100 for the nexus 5 to be a premium phone.

Ill give you a solid review as im a in love Moto X owner and now a in love Nexus 5 owner.
Moto X
The screen has better contrast, saturation and viewing angles
Active Notifications make me want to come back
Solid, thick build quality. Feels premium
Speakers are LOUD and vivid.
Touchless Control is a plus
Nexus 5
Large 5in screen is nice
Super fast and developer support
Speakers suck, low and raspy
Super light weight, but cheap build feel
Cheap phone for what it offers
The Moto X will get kitkat soon, which will make it even better of a phone, however most of the Nexus 5's faults should be improved upon by software\rom\kernel support.
I've had both and think the nexus 5 crushes the moto x. Not impressed with the moto.
Galaxy S4!!!
Just picked up the N5 yesterday and sold my Moto X. The moto x is an awesome device with many great features but at the end of the day I love the support and Dev community of the nexus. Love the lightweight as well as the grippy back. At first when coming from the x the n5 screen looks washed out but after using the n5 looking at the x screen, it looked over saturated. Both great devices but I choose the Nexus 5.

will nexus 5 get touchless control like MotoX

Since the N5 had the snapdragon 800 do you think it will ever get touchless control like the Motox?
I'm debating between these phones, the only thing that's pulling me towards the Moto X is the touchless control. I find that very handy

No, the reason might mainly be because the Moto X is a dual core phone and the Nexus 5 is a quad core. It will be a tough task to get it to work plus the ROM is so much similar to ours.
I'd like to get the OnePlus One ROM on our phone though. It has the "always listening" feature like the Moto X & the "knock on" feature like the G2.

No. The OnePlus One has a custom version of CM11 with special features like already mentioned that has not been released as open source yet. I believe it's CM11S.
Some of the features of the Moto X require hardware we don't have/can't access. For instance the active notifications take advantage of Amoled capabilities our screens don't have. And, though our hardware supposedly has "always listening" capability, even the dev that figured out how to turn it on won't release his method for fear of legal action.

What is so complicated about my question?
Moto X software is aosp with a few additions like always listening and active notifications. Both of those can be replicated but with poorer battery life. The software running the moto x will not benefit this device because those functions are boosted by the hardware backing them.

This ^^^
The moto x is near vanilla, as is the N5. I don't see any reason to want to port it. Its barely different. And the moto x exclusive features either won't work on the N5 period, and the ones that may would kill our battery.
Just my 3 cents.

AMOLED isn't the same as IPS LCD
Regarding the Sense 6 port and the (possibly) upcoming TouchWiz port by GalaxyUser, the devices they're ported from have similar hardware i.e. similar SoC/other hardware, the Moto X is quite a bit more different.

CM11S barely has that much new to it. If you wanted active display a lot of custom ROMs implement it, however as stated, the Nexus 5 does not have an AMOLED display and it'll use more power when it displays on the screen compared to the Moto X for example.

Edit: sorry, yes, you posted the thread. So far it hasn't been done. And trust me, if it does ever work....its sure to destroy battery life.

The ONE thing that Samsung has done well, the camera and camera software. Just in the last 6 months I have went from an S3 to HTC Droid Dna and now on the Moto X and I have to say, the S3 camera was FAR superior to any phone I have had in the past(I have had a lot of phones). The wife has as S4 and it is absolutely amazing. I will say though, I prefer the Moto X camera over the rest.

That might be an overkill of features. I found Camera Awesome to be actually pretty good with the right amount of features.
It works on these devices:
Samsung Galaxy SIII, S4, Galaxy Nexus, Note 2, Note 3,
Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 10,
Sony Xperia Z, HTC One, LG G2,
Motorola Droid Razr, Motorola Moto X,
Kindle Fire HDX 7", 8.9"
