The change in backgorund noise is not very apperent to me since the nexus 5 volume is higher.
For the noise problem,
Maybe try to record in a quite zone without elecronic devices near.
Maybe you should try to change you phone runtime to ART\dalvik.
Good luck

It's an elusive topic, most phones out there cannot do this natively. The South Korean Galaxy S is known to have this feature BUILT-IN.
Wonder if Nexus S can do this?

Anybody...?
No

I'm interested in this too... My LG Scoop dumbphone (Ahhh, the Alltel days) could do this natively, but I never found an app for it when I got my Droid.

Think it can be hacked onto the Nexus S which uses basically the same design and components?

With Galxy S you just need to take the libaudiopolicy.so from the Korean Galaxy and it works.
of course I tried the libaudiopolicy.so with Nexus S but phone won't boot after this.
hi
did anyone find a solution ?
im desperately in need of this
It's very important function, lets try something...

Have you tried the MIUI Rom? I know on the Evo it had incall recording and it worked great
Anybody tried this application?

Just wanna buy Google Nexus S , but call recording is importing for me .
There is a restriction recording calls on Nexus S. Don't know why...
It would be cool if somebody find the solution...
IMO there is no way to enable call recording. Nexus S is 1 year old, and today it still don't have ability to record calls.

Coming from a Galaxy S3, the only thing I miss about my old phone compared to Nexus 5 is the camera app / functions.
One feature in particular is the ability to pause the video recording and resume recording the same file. On Nexus5 I have to record numerous short videos and then stitch them to a final video. I gave Camera Awesome a try and it looks great for taking photos, but it doesn't have the pause video recording functionality.
Anybody tried a decent camera app that has this specific function ?
Anybody ?
This cannot be a Samsung only feature, I'm sure I have seen it on other phones
Google is working on a fix for the camera, I would just wait for that. It should be soon.

Hmm, am I weird or I don't have that issue? I just watched about 4hrs of YouTube videos (Modern Marvels) but not directly on the phone, just pushed to the TV from the cast thing to my WDTV.
I played a few quick videos on my phone directly too before doing the above and it worked just fine. I do have issues with it on HSPA even though I have 7.5Mbps speeds. Either routing or prepaid carrier slowing down youtube purposely!
Guys, I have a Christmas video from last night that I would like to get some still pictures from. Is that possible? I thought it was but I can't find a way.
Thanks!

Not sure since I have never tried it myself, but if it is important enough and you don't want to waste too much time, VLC on your computer.

You could try pausing the video and doing a screen shot (power+Vol Down and hold for a second). Other then that direct from the phone im not sure.
On the computer definitely. vlc, ffmpeg, etc have the ability to grab stills from the video.

Thanks for the info guys. Yeah, I knew I could do it from the desktop, but was looking for a future way to do it on my phone when I wasn't home. Thanks for the app linked, but I am looking for a free solution. Plus, the reviews on that app were kind of crappy.
I like the screenshot idea. Gonna have to try it and see how the quality is.
Screen shots should be at full resolution based on testing.
New update again.
4.4.3 didn't fix the audio bug when recording videos (that background hiss or noise that we could hear if there was no noises or voices).
Can people check now again with the new update?
Thanks.
unfortunately my nexus told me he is up to date with 4.4.3 :<
Anyone else?
Just flash the factory images if you're so worried about something like this.
Not fixed in 4.4.4

I don't have the Nexus 5.
Had it and returned it due to this issue. That's why I'm asking again, but just like the guy above said it's not fixed, so it's definitely a hardware issue, just like I suspected.
Shame.

It's not "definitely a hardware issue ". Them not fixing it doesn't mean it's hardware. All symptoms point to software.
Google haven't even acknowledged an issue and that is why it's not fixed.

No, it does not fix it.
Can you please make a recording and show us? A fan makes a nice sound to hear what is wrong.
This is the Nexus 5 on 4.4.4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tzrClyzqE8
and this is the Samsung Note 4.1.2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-a_O09Gj-w
Placed at the same location, give or take a centimeter.
I've just done the recording with a Samsung S and a ZTE blade at the exact same spot but I have yet to upload it but they sound as normal as the Note and not like the Garble from the Nexus 5.

Well... I remember that i HAD this thing on stock and in earlier slimkat builds (it was like underwater with sound distortions). And this patch fixed the problem. Just to be sure if i don't have placebo or smth i put stock mic settings. But(!) i couldn't get this on latest slimkat build! Videos recorded with Google Camera app.
with fix: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-QbNpZDrFk&feature=youtu.be
w/o fix: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnO478hxRqs&feature=youtu.be
You can hear that with fix it sounds more clear and less loud, but w/o it sounds like i'm trying to smash table by my fingers (very loud and little echo). Distance between sound source and telephone is minimal.
Weird.
If it was software it should have been already fixed.
Google is aware of the issue because on their forums there was a huge thread about this issue since November, and the moderators said they were aware of this issue and were working on it.

It's a hardware problem a lot of Nexus 5 have, as you guys can see on the link to the google webpage.

You've been saying that always, but I haven't seen any developer fix it with a patch.
Not even Google has fixed it with updates. Do you really believe the all powerful Google can't fix it? They have great software engineers and developers, yet still no solution.
In the Google forums everyone keeps saying it's a hardware problem and I believe that.
It looks like Google won't/can't fix the issue, so it's not software, or they could have already fixed it.
Well exactly 0 of the symptoms point to a hardware issue. If it was a hardware issue, why haven't they updated the nexus 5 with a new microphone?

Same reason LG hasn't updated the bad GPS of the G2 or the antenna location to fix the cell reception issues.
Same reason Apple didn't update the antenna issue on the iPhone 4 until the next model iPhone 4S.
Same reason OnePlus won't update the screens on their phone to fix the yellow tint issue.
Same reason they haven't updated the Nexus 5 to include a stronger vibration motor.
Same reason they haven't updated the Nexus 7 2013 with a new screen to fix the touchscreen issue.
Enough with the software issue seriously.
