Changing from Dalvik to ART - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm unlocked & rooted using stock ROM 4.4.2 and kernel with Xposed framework installed.
When selecting ART in developer options the phone reboots and then is up again in 10 seconds.
I know that this should take up to 20 minutes.
Can someone please help me out?

I think xposed and art are incompatible.

Correct. It is bouncing your device right back to dalvik.

Are you wiping data when you flash the rom?
If you don't have any important stuff on your phone, I would just flash the factory images and start over with the rom process.

Please tell us also what is your phone's status at the moment. Like is your phone rooted with bootloader unlocked and stuff like that.

Well since he's flashing a rom, it would be rooted and the bootloader unlocked.

It never hurts to ask though. Maybe he did something different and bypassed something. You never know. You got to have the whole story. :sly:

When you flash the ROM it also flashes the kernel that comes with it.
So if you are using Mahdi ROM then everything is ok but if you try a different ROM you get the error constantly?
using the ClockworkMod recovery.
If you receive issues on flashing, double check your download. If nothing, I suggest using the ClockworkMod recovery.

Phone has stopped is related to your gapps

The type of recovery you use will have no bearing on it, hundreds of people on here use twrp and cwm.
All I can suggest and it was suggested before is to wipe your phone completely and start over again. Something went wrong, clearly.

Nexus 5 Flashing Issue. And help/tip?

It seems I can not flash the Miui beta with the RIL working for the Nexus 5 through twrp recovery. Is there a way to fix this?
Also. I currently have PA's latest build. How do I change the trigger area for PIE? I see in screenshots they are on the side. How can I do this? I hate swiping from the bottom since I'm used to doing that to launch Google.
Thanks in advance.

I got an error the first time I tried to flash the MIUI port in TWRP. Try rebooting the recovery after the error and flashing again. That worked for me.
As for PIE in PA, I don't know as I haven't used it.

Why about adding the error message? You may need to upgrade your bootloader.

Is xposed a ROM?

If it isn't can I have xposed and custom Roms at the same time?
No it's not a ROM. It's a framework that installs on any ROM. There is an Xposed thread XDA in the non device forums that explains what it is

It is not a ROM, and yes, you can run both. I am running OmniROM and XPosed.

Thanks
But you cannot use it on ART runtime

Well you can try to run it with art, like so many do, but it'll revert back to dalvik.

Xposed Android Lollipop

Before the installation of the ota of android 5.0 I have to unistall xposed because it doesn't work with ART, right?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
You'll have to uninstall xposed for any ota anyway regardless of lollipop
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
And flash stock recovery. And hopefully nothing else was altered in the system that could affect the Ota.
Personally, I'd backup my apps and just flash stock 4.4.4. As soon as I hear the Ota is out that is.
Tho really, I always wait a couple days and flash it with fastboot, clean. ?
Ok, so I have to unistall Xposed...
I rooted the device with Towelroot, so there isn't particular problems with the system? Or towelroot makes something different to system files unlike root?

Although why OTA anyway? If you're rooted with a custom recovery, you can just flash a pre-rooted L zip which will be available before the OTA Anyway

Haha exactly.
I have not my PC since last month, and probably I will have it in the first half of December, however I have not a custom recovery, only root with towelroot because, like I said, I have no PC

So use flashify to install twrp recovery and then you will have a way to flash. Doing any phone/tablet modding is highly dangerous if you don't have a computer available to you in case something messes up...

I just grab the files from google and flash my phone clean with fastboot. I'll Add the recovery and root a few days later (if available). I like my phone the way it is and don't like to change just for OTA.
Ok, I'll probably use flashify, thanks everybody

Am I correct in assuming that xposed does not work under lollipop because of art?
Can lollipop work using dalvik?
Correct. And no.

(A man of few words. ? )
That's a problem for me and might make me not accept the upgrade. I really like xposed and xgravity and my nexus 5 is fast enough.
I'm sure it won't be long til xposed will be updated.

I hope you're right but it may not be an easy task because of the different ways dalvik and art handle things.
Then we'll need to rely on custom roms for customizing.. Until xposed does work.

Kind of like we have done for the last X years? Before xposed ever existed?
