Hello. I would like to start this thread by saying that i'm a noob in phones and computers in general. So please talk with me like you are talking to a kid.
Now, lets get to the point.
I want to install a ROM on my LG p500 optimus one, any ''newer'' rom will do its job. Now i have rooted the phone(I think) and it was previously installed with 2.3.3 android, and I would like to have a link or a tutorial on precisely how to install it. I mean like 4.3.3 or any newer updates, but the condition is that the phone has to work, everything that works now has to work on the other ROM.
Also, I read somewhere, that some ROM's make your phone perform faster, do you think thats true? And can you show me a tutorial that meets the conditions in bold that i wrote previously?
Please read the following thread to install Kitkat android 4.4.2 which is a smooth ROM

But wifi tethering is not working

There is absolutely zero need to worry about lag or anything of such before trying a ROM, Kernel, etc. 'Swapper', 'Swapper 2', and other applications similar to these boost your phone's speed (and oh, not to mention, overall performance) to incredible amounts. They do so by literally increasing the phone's RAM be significant amounts (if you want them to). They use your SD card for the extra RAM. My phone currently has 321 applications installed on it, which should make it lag as GTA running on an under-clocked P500, but guess what? It works as smooth as it runs once you buy it (weird examples, but you're getting the point). My preferance: that should not be your worry. What your worry should be is installing a ROM/Firmware not compatible with your Kernel. Good luck!
The newest and smoothest ROM for me is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2589303 with this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2140930
If it doesn't work as smooth as you expected(that's not gonna happen), you can allways go back to your previous ROM. Try it

Hi guys...
i am planning to buy(India) Motorola quench XT3, i need few help from you
Q1. is it advaisable to buy motorola quench xt3? is it great phone for budget price? i don't have much money to spend on phones since i have lost my iphone recently..
Q2. right now they are providing Android 2.1 with it....is it possible to upgrade to android 2.2? official or unofficial upgrade is possible ?
Q3. if i upgrade to 2.2, will i loose any features?
Q4. is xt3 possible to mod? i mean changing theme, adding widgets, etc..
Please help me in this....
i am looking for your support on this.
cheers
Can someone put light on this.....i am looking for your help dears....
its a great phone and i am using it know.Technicaly speaking its a phone that states its camera is 3mp on its backcover but mine is a newer android 2.1 version that motorola recalled it to change its camera sensor. It is shown in the camera launcher which says 5mp.It is pretty similar to the htc legend and i like it as the ui is very fast!It is so far very good and fast.No lag and it is very customisable. It can put almost any widget and at this price,It really is better then any phone even better then the legend. It also has a unscratcheable screen as it is gorilla glass! Its processer is 600mhz and that makes it alot better then the wildfire which loses in every way to the xt3!There is no 2.2 rom yet!But no features will be lost! And i am also a user of the iphone and i dumped it cos this is alot better if you know how to use it to its potential!Battery life is very good and can last a whole day with heavy youtube+web+Music+video usage!Get the phone! You will not be dissapointed!Make sure you get the android 2.1 version as there were two versions of it!
Hey Thanks Alisterrox....Thats great help....much much appriciated...
actually i already bought it - Motorola quench xt3.
i felt its good and the speed also good.....everything is fine...i played few games .....it went smooth.
also i have googled about 2.2 upgrade....few people have upgraded to froyo....which is cynagen mod.
if you know how to root our device...that will be helpful for me....there are few method ...i don't know which one works fine...
if you have rooted your device..pl. give some direction also if you have installed any theme or rom...please guide me how to do that
i hope i am not asking you somuch...
cheers
Root problem
Don't mention it!I did not root my phone as i have heard rumors that an official froyo update is in Feburary!I am sorry for the slow reply! As for cynagen mod it is the orange boston class which means you can try the mod in the class of the HTC legend or HTC Hero!I'm sorry if i am of not much help. However if you like the Samsung Galaxy S theme i have the file and i am gonna leave it here if you want!
Thanks alisterrox...thanks for your help....i already have installed Cyanogen mod 6.1.2 on my system....i didn't know that there will be a official update of 2.2....i could have waited for some time....even the installed cyanogen mod, i am not feeling its good....the touch resposive become bit lagish and the speed is very similar to 2.1...the battery drains early(this is the big issue).....the only benifit is i can install app on my SD card thats all.
between the file which you have attached here....how i can use...can i use 'rom manger to install ?
Thanks
Cheers
It is an apk technically speaking u just place the file in your sd card that will do the trick. You can use any app installer. As for the sluggishness of the mod it is expected as it is a general rom which may not be built for this phone specifically.....i will try probably to write a froyo rom into it if i have the time while i port a htc rom or any rom i can get hold of!Maybe dext motoblur rom as the specs are pretty similar!
Thanks alisterrox...whish you very very happy new year...i will try the theme and let you know....if you buil any rom please let me know...
also i have noticed that ...cyanogenmod people have ported the Gingerbread rom to our devices...pl. do check
http://boston-mania.blogspot.com/2011/01/rom-23-cyanogen-mod-7-rc0-for-z71.html

I m screwed up with my pretty old HTC Touch.. I am looking for best of HTC Wildfire, Samsung Galaxy 551, Motorola Quench XT3, LG Optimus1 P500, Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8..
but after seeing this thread and other threads I will definitely go for Motorola Quench XT3. Only one question how is the display colors and resolution compared with others ?
ThanQ
@ kbmkreddy
according to me ....Motorola quench XT3 is best buy...
Screen quality is better than any other mobile in this category ....(you can check the specification and compare...XT3 is best in class).
i would recommend do check LG optimus 1 p500 also...this is also a pretty good mobile.

Tried rom
I have tried all but the best so far is the official 2.2 xt502 rom with gingerbread ui.it's very stable fast allows the installation of apps to sd card.also the kernel 2.6.32.9 is way u will want if u want superb battery life and great speed.cyanogen of course is faster but it gives horrible battery life.apanda's and foxconn rom's are very good generally.but I heard the clock speed is capped mostly at 480mhz.apanda's are 600mhz but don't worryfficial Rom usually have no imei fault whatsoever.oh if u are facing problems with any rom that gives u other region setting(that's wat I got with the official rom) just go android market and dl the regional settings app.I suggest the official rom bcos it's made for our phones and u will not get things like commitiva z71 or any other orange boston clones;it say xt502.Apps2sd works fine here if u do a custom partition;I did it and it works fine.generally if u like firetrap has good rom.but recent roms also built on the official rom such as the balakaila rom have the same stable kernel.look for those as they are special kernel for our phone.oh error codes on sutlr are very common as we had clockwork mod to install cyanogen b4...thus it works wierdly.I have been fiddling around and I will most probably attempt rom building on the 2.6.32.9 kernel with no root.complete stock will give good performance.besides the gingerbread ui is gorgeous so try that out!it even has smart dialing enabled unlike other rom's.it make dialling a dream unlike the previous roms mentioned.cheers!maybe we should request for a thread specially for our xt502!
Hi alisterrox,
Where do I get the official update to 2.2 mentioned in your last post? I'm running stock 2.1 rom on my XT502 and need to update specifically for apps2sd and such other features.
Thanks in advance.
Sent from my Motorola-XT502 using XDA App
@ pamfu ...Official rom i have attached in my post...the first link is the official rom for our device(not exchatly xt502 rom but its official rom for similar variant.....i guess you know...its just a brand name...everything else are same).
@ alisterrox ...Thanks man....even i thought the same....official rom are fine to use..its very stable.......
since you have knowledge about rom's...you should cook some rom for our device....we should ask seprate thread for our XT502....that will be very much helpful
Cheers

Step 5o not worry about the errors u get after flashing.Just go ahead and boot ur phone up.After the motorola badge u will get the green android robot. It should boot up.
Step 4:If u dont like the chinese root explore use system app remover to clear file and dl the full version using applanet
Rmb to always backup ur rom!
If problems persist with booting(applies to most roms)
Step 1:Go into recovery mode(power+vol up+camera button)
Step 2:Using trackball or volume buttons, select wipe cache and wipe user data(select button is camera button, back is power button)
Step 3:Go into advanced settings and select wipe dalvik cache and wipe battery stats
Step 3:It should work.If there are problems feel free to ask.
Rooting ur phone if u are still on stock 2.1 and want cyanogen
Step 1:Using the universal androot apk provided, install it to ur phone.Click root after installation and opening the app
Step 2ownload rom manager.U can use the market but u can dl the premium version using applanet which is a app that provides paid apps free.
Step 3:In rom manager, flash clockwork mod recovery.
Step 4:Back up ur rom by selecting it in the app.
Step 5l the cyanogen rom u want.Rmb to download gapps or google apps.
Step 6ut the rom rar file into ur sd card root folder.Rename the cyanogen rar file as update
Step 7:Go into recovery mode again.Select the flash 'update.zip' option.
Step 8:After complete, clear all user data, cache and everyting as mentioned b4.
Step 9:Reboot ur phone.U should get the cyanogen mod robot. If stuck at the motorola badge dont panic.refer to the help at the top of this post.
Step 10:Ur done! But rmb to download the latest google apps to ur phone. Its the same way put the gapps mdpi to ur root folder. This time dont rename it.just select flash zip from sdcard.after complete u will get the latest google apps.
Step 11:Voila u are done!

Hi Alisterrox,
I'm using official XT502 with 2.3 UI rom too, it worked good so far. But why everytime I restart my phone my internal memory always reduced a little ? I used app2sd with ext3 partition in external. Did it happen too in yours ? Thank you.
@alisterrox
You really rock man! Such flawless instructions! My XT502 upgraded in flat 5 minutes!
THANKS THANKS THANKS ..... MANY THANKS!
Hi all. I've got my O3D coming tomorrow and want to root it and install a different rom but not sure what to go for. I've had a look around and I'm interested in the ThiaiZO3D rom along with the v6 supercharger. I've currently got a hannspree hannspad tablet which I've modded with CWM and custom rom so I'm familiar with android and Modding. My current phone at the moment is the Nokia N900 which I've also modded. Ive also had a play with my mate O3D and loved it which is the reason i bought one. Here's a few questions I would like answering please.
1) what rom is best in terms of reliability, fast and responsive?
2) will installing the tegra software work fine with a custom rom like ThiaiZO3D for example?
3) is the camera mod in the development section worth installing, also is it installed via CWM?
That's all for now.
Thank you very much. Ashley.
I think the Thiai Rom is currently good choise but.i try to test king 3d. He release v2.2 this week and i think its a great alternately to Thiai Rom.
Sorry for bad English
send from 3rd Dimension with LG Optimus 3D
1) Think ThiaiZ with V6 is the way to go. If you want to have new kernel go for Koala or King. But for me it seems ThiaiZ stock runs smoother.
2) Sorry didn't try
3) Yes and yes. Look the amazing comparison pics in its thread.
I just installed ThiaiZ yesterday and also used the v6 script but cant actually notice any difference. Swiping between screens has a little 'judder' as it scrolls, I haven't actually tried any games but overall performance seems the same.
I haven't had the phone crash yet like I did on the stock ROM; but time will tell.
seems like thaiz rom, is one of the most stable one in this forum since it is stock based. But im not upgrading to 1.5.3 anytime soon, cuz i love my stock browser too much . i think it gets the job done, simple and easy to use. might upgrade if thaiz decided to put the browser in again
Hi,
I'll be getting my brand new Xoom Wifi (EU) next week. Now that there's an ICS rom with camera and hdmi, I want to upgrade to ICS. I have some experience with rooting/flashing the Hannspree Hannspad but just to be sure. The steps to go from stock to Team Eos Wifi Nightlie (wingray/MZ604):
- root
- install clockworkmod
- flash zip from sd
Is this correct ?
Thanks

You can use the guide, below. I recommend that you read the 1st post thoroughly and at least read the last several pages as they may be somewhat relevant to your situation.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1249798
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction !
Don't upgrade to any ics rom if you are planing to test drive or daily use the Xoom. You will not be able to play games that have 3d. Only native apps will work (some). I think its the build and not that its a new OS...but its a nightly so you can't complain. I'm going to relock my Xoom and wait for the official release. There is no real point in using a custom rom if you are at the newest OS and the horse power is great for gaming and working. There are plenty of apps that will give you customization without root. Overclocking is not that notorious but will drain the baterry faster so there is no gain. ICS looks awesome and devs are really genious but I think the rom will not be useful until the official update comes out.
I'm coming from the Hannspree Hannspad and on that tablet I've used all kinds of roms (different Honeycomb flavors). I'm not sure I understand what you mean here. From what I've read in the forums the current build is a fully functional ICS rom. Can someone shed a light on this ?
Games or apps that require 3d doesn't work. Even soul craft that is a ics compatible game. So its not ics ...its the rom. I'm not complaining its a nightly but people saying its a functional build...well it is if you stay with the stock apps and native made apps. But for me its not. List of apps that doesn't work that I use. AutoCAD,Photoshop, gta3 , every gameloft , dead space.... some other apps work but sometimes fc or refuse to open and have to reboot. Some will say its not the rom but devs not upgrading theyr apps for ics but I have seen games working and then not in every ics build. So there's that.
Most of the application works. gameloft's game is not working currently.
I m nw on teameos aosp build29 n i m very satisfy with this rom. It is extremely smooth n fast. camera is working now too.

Actually the nightly builds are quite functional for daily drivers. It depends on what you do with your Xoom. I'm not that much of a gamer, so I don't care much about that. Photoshop Touch works fine, but can't connect with Creative cloud (at least a few builds ago when I tried), most everything else works fine. Not all apps have made the changes needed for compatibility with ICS yet, so not really an Eos ICS Nightly problem.
All went smooth. Running ICS now! Heaven. Thanks a lot!
Edit: should cifs work out of the box? Using cifs manager but cannot mount shares
Edit 2: When upgrading to a new nightly: just wipe cache & flash zip ? (sorry can't post in the correct forum yet).
Hi, I have recently rooted my Desire S, with revolutionary, clockwork etc, and I currently ported this rom HTC_DESIRE_S_2.3.5-2.10.401.4.zip
Everything is working just fine, but theoretically, when I decide to port a new rom, how would I know which will work, and which won't?
Actually, I'm waiting until ICS is released for desire s, so I can find it and install it...
Are there any methods to identify which rom would be compatible?
Thank you!

hey mate
your're actually talking about two different things: porting a ROM and flashing a ROM.
Porting means, you take a ROM from another device and modify it so it works on your device too.
flashing means, you take a ROM which is already optimized for your device
and install it, so you wipe the stock firmware and get a custom rom.
which of the two things is what you want to do? i think its just the flashing.
so you can take any ROM from the "development section", and if you follow the guides that you can find everywhere here im sure you will be succesfull and happy with it.
bytheway
there is no "best" ROM for your device. it all depends on what you need and want. there are alot sense 3.5 Roms, Endymion 3.4 is the one i would recommend. you can also try AOSP ROMs (android open source project, means no sense), cyanogenmod7 could be a good first choice. and you can also try ics right now, since there are at least 3 (?) ICS AOSP ROMs right now:
CM9, Virtuous Quattro RC3, IceColdSandwich
have fun!
Yes I meant "flashing" a rom
Thanks for all the information. That's the general idea I have as well, however I had this question because after I flashed another rom (official rom through htc sync - that could have been the problem) over my first flashed one , the phone was "bricked"....

i would never recommend to flash an official ROM over a custom ROM. But anyways, i think if you would have done a full wipe before flashing the official rom you wouldnt have got a "you call it brick"
a real "BRICK" is a useless phone, where there is no way to use it again.if there is still a way, its no brick.. but who cares about definitions
I recommend you to flash the ROMs only through recovery mode. AND ALWAYS DO A FULL WIPE BEFORE FLASHING A NEW ROM. very important
and dont forget to backup as always
Yes you are absolutely right. I'll have that in mind the next time I'll decide to flash a new one
Yeah the device wasn't completely useless, it hanged at boot...but I guess that was due to not following the right procedure as you previously described..
Thanks eyahl
Start flashing different roms and trying them for a day or two. First
Sens 3.0 and then sense 3.5 roms to see the difference. Only then you will know which rom is best for you.
+1 for Endymion 3.4,

Each ROM type suits different personal tastes, so there isn't an 'best' ROM for everyone. Trial and Error which ones suit you!
General opinions:
Stock
Pro: Straight from HTC, *newest kernel/drivers*, least likely to have compatibility issues.
Cons: HTC is slow to release updates, and sense interface is usually resource hungry.
Sense-like
Pro: usually keep the Sense interface, but custom kernals offer speed / various other improvements.Runnymead versions are kernals ported across from HTC Sensation (which offer some of the goodies like Beats Audio etc. that were not originally developed for Saga.
Cons: Sense interface is resource hungry...
CyanogenMod based
Pro: offer lots of customisations
Cons: not the most user friendly
AOSP
Pro: Roms from the android source, usually less resource hungry, so lighter and faster.
Cons: Obviously, no sense.
ICS Alpha/Beta
Not strictly a new category, but builds from the new Android 4.0 (ICS).
Currently some things (like camera) isn't fully working yet.
Note: new Desire S may suffer from camera/video lag bug with non-stock / non-sense ROMs, this is due to HTC putting in new hardware / driver into the new DS phones and the other kernels not reflecting this change yet.
Personally, I use SenseMOD Lite V1.2 build 2 as it is one of the few AOSP like builds that don't have the camera bug. Oxygen would have been best choice for me but unfortunately camera bug makes it unusable.
Hey guys. I don't want to drive over your feet, but I think the OP is already very satisfied with all those replies. specially the post above is really trying to help, but you spend much time to type what has already been written on the first page.
I appreciate your intend to help, bit I think the OP isn't gonna read this anymore..

can someone please help me with a step by step guide for rooting the v20c as i have tried umpteen times with the above rooting tools but failed miserably.
I am more of a noob than a seasoned campaigner, please be patient.

Megatron Root
Hi,
Megatron root definitely works.
It took me many goes before it actually worked...It kept saying something about files being "corrupt" (it was a while back so cannot remember exact details).
The phone would reboot a few times, and end up being the same and unrooted.
What worked for me was i did a factory reset, and then ran Megatron root again. It may have had something to do with the number of apps i had on the phone. It then finally worked.
Hope that helps.
Hi Paki0402 and vicdo1000
Successfully rooted, I had to rely heavily on google translate for the german lingo
thanks again.
can you also help me with the best way to install a custom rom for V20C? which rom will be the best in terms of eye candy, fastest, smoothest ( may not be all in one rom)
help greatly appreciated !!! ppl like you make us noobs feel protected !
Subir
This is a bit late, but adb is android debugging bridge, and is required to transfer files to root locations without su privilages. Adb is part of the android sdk and in the package of platform tools. To use adb you have to install it and configure it, look on youtube, then from command prompt you can us it.

Hi Schubeir,
CM7 is always a winner in terms of a good stable ROM, but you will lose the goodies that make our phone unique (3D as well as HDMI). Very fast and smooth, and because the ROM includes Theme Chooser, there's a huge selection of themes to choose from that will change your entire Android interface.
I'm currently using Promethius v1.3. Fantastic ROM...fast/smooth and keeps most of the stock LG apps. Feels like stock software, only much much faster and everything works! however, this version i dont think will work with your current baseband. you wont get and service if you flashed it.
Ultimately, there are many good ROMs to find in the Development section, so just have fun trying them out. whats good for me might not be good for you.
by the way, do you have ghost calls on V20C?
Hi,
Did not wait long enough on V20C to know if there were ghost call issues!! the UI was behaving like stop n go n stop n go, lagging every now n then, hence wanted to root and change over to custom rom.
I need to have the 3D and HDMI, purchased this model only for this. I am at present using the DNA_GB 3.3.3 based on the new V21E rom. when i flashed the ThiaiZ O3D V2.7.1 GB.------ NO NETWORK!!!!!
Was it due to the 21D baseband in the ROM? do I then need to flash the 21e Baseband?
which do i flash first, the base band or the ROM?
Cant believe I am trying all this at the young age of 52!!!
Thanks lots for all your help.

OK Schubeir,
I had the exact same problem so no problems. Yes the baseband is what is causing the lack of network.
I know there is any easier way to flash baseband, but i found it quite easy flashing my phone back to a stock v21e kdz, and then flashing a custom ROM built using the v21e as a base. The reason for this is V21E is proven not to have ghost calls, so thats the biggest benefit. it also has much better battery life. And finally, you can flash Promethius which has all the stock goodies (3D, HDMI).
Follow this link and go to point 3 - LG Flash tool.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1491870
you must follow it step by step word for word or it wont work. Of course you will need to download the V21E kdz file...jut do a search and you should find it.
After flashing back to stock V21E, root again with Megatron, then flash ROM as you normally would. then flash GAPPS (google Apps) right away also.
Bit long winded, but its a one of and its well worth it getting your phone setup right. With Promethius, the phone runs awesome!
Cheers
