hi guys,
i'm new to the forum. this weekend I'm gonna buy my first android phone. not sure whether to buy nexus s or lg 2x. hope u guys can tell the pros and cons of this two phone.
cheers!
Edit:
From my understanding,
Nexus s,
-great super amoled
-will get latest update
-more optimized
-certain phone have problem with capacitive touch screen
Lg 2x,
-greater cpu n gpu
-better camera
-dual core is not being fully optimized with current os version
-problem with random reboot
I am also thinking of replacing my Nexus S for LG Optimus 2X but I dont know should I do it. Big dillema...

Also some LG experience the screen bleed problem.

The Nexus S has a better GPU but a worse GPU.
Also the Camera isn't necessarily better on the O2x, megapixels doesn't matter too much.
The Nexus S does not have a touchscreen problem.
And finally: Yes, the dualcores aren't being used very much (yet).
As for a real answer: None of them, Galaxy S II.
It doesn't cost much more than the O2x, but is miles better.
What touchscreen issue is the op referring to?

Are we talking about the LG 2X or the t mobile version LG G2X
dont think the LG 2x
has the same hardware issues as that plague t mobile version not 100pecent on that though
OP you're asking about the lg optmius 2x ... the LG-P990 that means you're are probably going to be on bands that the international galaxy S supports
i say SGS2
I'm referring the back capacitive button
Look up for reviews on battery life of LG Optimus 2x, dont know how the dual core handles battery life.
But, i have been looking up on SGS2 forums over here @ xda, and it seems most people are not happy with their purchase due to battery life issues.
PS: I bet you wouldnt want a phone that dont last long right?
EDIT: FYI, do read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1088098
most ppl get a nexus because its a nexus. everyone knew when the nexus s came out that is was no revolutionary piece of hardware. but they wanted the direct updates and support from google.

Really? if i was paying $800 to buy it here in the states (that samsung USA probably wouldn't provide support for), it better not have any issues!
Hey OP
I actually had a G2x for 29 days. Actually I had 2 of them. On day 29 I sent it back for a refund and got the Nexus S. I haven't looked back.
I was plagued with random reboots and freezes. It was really annoying. Also, the G2x was unusually "tall" and heavy with large spaces between the touch buttons at the bottom. It felt like a quality device, but it didn't feel as comfortable as the Nexus S.
With the Nexus S, you are guaranteed updates for a long time into the future. With the G2x, you are stuck with Froyo out of the box, and a few custom ROMs are emerging. None of the custom ROMs are fully stable and bug-free yet. Heck, even the stock ROM isn't stable and bug-free. Furthermore, the stock ROM isn't Vanilla Froyo, which really annoyed me. LG made quite a few subtle changes to the UI that I did not appreciate, and much preferred the true stock Nexus experience.
The G2x was snappier then the Nexus S, but the overall experience was not as fulfilling to me.
Yeap agree with that.
Support from Google is onebof the main selling point!

I'm a sucker for technology. Right when the g2x was released, I had to replace it with the nexus s. I had the g2x for 2 weeks and went back to my nexus S. The g2x had too many problems and the annoying screen bleed!! I would watch videos at night and I'd always stare at it and try to rub the area just to see if i could fix it. Anyways, the nexus S is alot faster then stock g2x. I'm sure the g2x can get faster after some modding, but when I was using it only got a quadrant score of 2400 while the nexus right now gets 3300 with c7 and netarchy. The nexus s also has a better form factor as well as samoled screen. The g2x had horrible speakers. Everytime old I'd go into speaker mode, the other person would hear echoing. Also my g2x had a hard time getting a GPS lock while the Nexis s gets it in 5 seconds. I think ill pass on the g2x since it didn't exceed any of my expectations.
One thing I liked about the g2x was the way it looked and felt. I don't really like the plastic feeling of the nexus s.
for playing games, LG is better
for roms, ehhh...

The 2x is for Europe (supports different frequencies), and runs LG's custom skin on top of the OS.
The G2x is for T-Mobile USA, and they removed the skin.
Both appear plagued with similar problems, the 2x appears to be getting/have gotten? an OTA to address some issues, but I don't know where that stands.
i was also thinking about getting the g2x but im going to keep my nexus s as it might get supported more than the g2x
I have replaced my Nexus with O2X and havent regreted. Everything is so fast and snappy. Not to mention fantastic Tegra 2 games connected thru HDMI to plasma.
Sent from my Optimus 2X
First some history. Im currently using a Desire HD and switching from sense to CM7 back in forth once in a while so custom ROMs are a must.
Previous to that had a nexus one.
My main requists are the following
Flashable ROMs
good battery life
Good overall performance
Good reception and call qaulity
Good speaker
Screen at lease 4"
Must take MicroSD (I have a 32gig and I spent 100$ to get it so I want to use it)
Im looking to get a new phone and im pretty much down to the following 4 choices which are currently available to me in Canada
LG Optimus 2X
LG Optimus 3D
HTC EVO 3D
Samsung Galaxy S Infuse 4G
Samsung Galaxy S II 4G
HTC Sensation 4G
MOTOROLA ATRIX 4G
MOTOROLA XT860 4G
Now in terms of price they are all give or take about the same. Specs wise the atrix still looks like a good buy especially now that bootloader is unlocked. 1 gig of ram 16gig internal plus external etc but from what I hear the screen isnt one of the best out there and due to the higher pixel count speed on the CPU takes a hit.Battery is huge which is a big plus
In general I think the 3D thing is just a gimmick so that's no big deal for me as long as the 5megapixel is semi decent
I could care less about full keyboards as im used to screen ones now
In general I tend to avoid LG due to past issues but the optimus 2 has some good reviews out there.
As for Samsung ive known a few people who say changing roms is harder then lets say on HTC devices.
So any opinion would be appreciated.
So in order here are my priorities with these
Reception
Voice quality
Battery life
Ease of rom installation and support
Good speaker
Good overall CPU performance
Screen size
Good cam 5MP and up
Dont care if its HSPA+ or whatever. Never get above 3Mbps on my network anyways

But the battery is pretty small for a device with qHD and 4.3 screen also in my general experience Sense looks night but takes allot of potential out of the CPU compared to CM7 or base android.
Also it has less internal storage and RAM then some of the other devices as well
But AFAIK,battery backup is wayy better in sensation compared to sgs 2 although both r dual core...!
N btw, stock roms tend to take a hell lot of ram...customs roms uses wayy less ram..
N hell yeah,memory is a bit f problem unless u root it..
N btw, nothing can touch d samoled screen f sgs2,but one has to consider other things too...

Well from the looks of xda its easy to root the GS2
as for battery I see Mugen has a 3200mah battery but would distroy the look of the phone.

At this point I think im leaning towards SGII seems specs are as good if not better then Atrix and battery is bigger then the Sensation
You won't regret your choices on any of the phones you listed but I would go with the: Samsung Galaxy S II 4G. I have one & it's awesome. Check out the SGSII forums to see what ROMs & other goodies you can get if you decide to get a SGSII.

Hows the battery on it? Any recommendations on ROMs? Is it easy to flash customer stuff?
I saw how to root and also I see there is CWM for it so figure it should be easy to install ROMs and kernels and stuff after.

Battery life is awesome & I've been using Cognition since it's release. It's easy peezy hence why I love it so much. I use to have a HTC Inspire & it was a pain in the beginning but easy after I made a successful gold card.

New Phone
Definitely judging by my hands on experience HTC or Motorola!
Id say the sensation 4g, in my opinion.
Thanks for all the replies
Sensation, or ATRIX+dock.
htc make amazing phones.. I bought the desire a year ago and it performs like a rock! and rocks do perform, it's known
I would suggest the Samsung Galaxy S II 4G.
The battery life is solid, it's very easy to root (check out its forum).
The camera is awesome, and the screen can't be beat.
Go for it.
Find dock is a waste of money. Leaning towards SGS2. Other then the battery on the atrix the specs beat all the others. Don't need qhd as that takes away from the cpu for nothing in my view

I would go for the optimus 2x. I have a g2x and love it. GREAT screen, GREAT camera. GREAT phone. haha
I am loving my Infuse. Best phone I've ever had. It is easy to root, go back to stock, flash roms and just about evrything else. Htc seems a lot more difficult.to do all these.to begin with.
The screen is amazing, first phone I actually wanted to watch anything on(had iphone previously).
Battery life is good and there are good roms although right now they are on hold awaiting att to roll.out gb update to the phone.

Hello.
I'm searching for a phone right now.
I'm thinking about buying the G2x but I was wondering if you guys can show me something better ?
I want a fast smartphone, reliable, powerful ?
Budget is unlimited.
Thank you
G2X is a very good phone. But if you're willing to wait a couple of weeks for the Galaxy S 2 to come out you should get that.
Thanks for replying.
The Galaxy S2 will be like.. 4.5" for Tmobile and that's too big for me ;/ !
Like which is better: TMobile G2x, Htc Sensation or MyTOuch 4G Slide ?
I can also consier other phones from tmobile.
I really to buy this tonight !
Thanks

I've read outstanding comments about the MyTouch 4G Slide. The camera is suppose to be the best there is on any phone. And the audio quality is suppose to be superior. But I myself don't like thick phones, which slide out keyboards make.
The Sensation is definitely better than the LG phone and looks and feels better...to me. But the SGS2 would be the best one to get. I thought for a long time that 4.3" is the biggest I would want to go in a phone. But I gave a Samsung Infuse a good try and found my new maximum size increased to 4.5". It was excellent. The SAMOLED+ and Samsung's thin phones are worth it. You would be glad to have an SGS2. The sound quality will be the best there is and the camera will probably rival the MyTouch 4G Slide. The battery life will be better too.
If you need a phone right now I would pick the Sensation. Mytouch 4G Slide if you really want the camera, but like MartyLK I don't like thick phones.
+1 for Samsung Galaxy S 2.
It might not have the CPU of G2x but it has more RAM and so multi-tasking would be pretty smooth.
Since you have an unlim budget and if you are willing for new models to come out, look for these specs.
1GHz+ processor. 1GB RAM. 4G. Preferably a dual core 1GHz and 1GB RAM.
3D phones have the cool factor. However, I personally don't think they are worth it.u
That's about it.
I would also go with Sensation!
Actually, if it worth it, I can wait for the Galaxy S II.
When is it being relased ?
But 4.5" is not too big ?
I would recommend SGSII as well.
Last time I heard, it has a 4.3" display.

It's out of question. The OP wants a good device. Not a cheap or budget device. Non of the Optimus phones(except Optimus 3D, Optimus Black and Optimus 2X... or rather the expensive models in Optimus series.. ) can run Flash.. as they are all ARMv6.
我觉着吧,htc g14蛮不错的~
I have as u can see LG 2x and device is great, my friend have SGS2 And i can tell u that multitasking browsing net loading apps is the same speed. But LG is so mych better in games(cuz of nVidia gpu) . On sgs2 display is much better and battery managment us also better. U should buy sensation only for looks and sensUI. Thats my opinion

I very much enjoy the versatility of the htc sensation 4g with the Android Revolution HD 3.6.11 rom.
Guys, plz tell me that is it worth that i can change my optimus 2x with sensation ?
can u plz tell me whats normal battery life of sensation with or without UC/OV ?
any other issue ?
and death grip ?
also plz give ur voltage table for different frequencies ( max Undervolted)
I've just switched from the Optimus 2x and I'm so happy I did now. I was using miui and cm9 at the time but when I switched to stock sense it is so much better!
It's altogether smoother than any rom I'd tried on the 2x.
I can now do so much more in a day on my sensation xe. And still have plenty of battery life left at the end of the day.
Iv not tried any custom ROMs or kernels yet as I'm waiting to see what official ics is going to be like before doing any s-off or root or anything like that.
Everything seems so much more complicated than the 2x if you want to put customer ROMs on HTC than it was with the 2x and there doesn't seem to be a tool which can recover from bricks as well as nvflash and smartflash.
Another plus point is that HTC is actually releasing ics ATM for certain sensations unlike lg who will wait about a year before releasing ics just like they did with gingerbread.
Hope this helps?

It depends on how much money you have to give! The Sensation is an overall much better device than the 2x ( less issues, better build and software quality, a much much larger development section, ICS(!!!!) etc ). But better phones are coming ( ONE X, ONE S and SGS3 later on ) so i would suggest you wait and see unless you found a great price for the Sensation! I love this phone and it's getting better every day especially since ICS development begun!
If you want to buy it on a contract than just wait until Samsung unveils the GS3. If you don't want the GS3 take a look at the Nexus or GS2. Sensation is not worth it, HTC are already starting to drop support and it's not as powerful as it's supposed to be. I, for example, will never buy an HTC phone again, I expected more but it's just another glitchy Android phone.

Having owned both:
Battery life is worse on Sensation (still gets through a day).
Speaker is worse on Sensation (kind of fixed through mods).
Wi-Fi Death grip if you hand gets near top of phone.
But saying all that, I am still happy I switched. Rooting your phone can fix battery life and speaker volume and the 4.3 inch screen is nice. The real advantage sensation has over optimus is the development. We have a lot of really good devs working on the sensation. Cyanogen team is having problems getting CM9 on it but they will figure it out by the time CM9 has an official release I bet.
and what about camera quality over o2x ?
at least same ?
cause o2x camera have good camera.
Sensation or Optimus 2X
I have used both phones. The IPS screen on the O2X is very nice. Lg made the screen for Apple's Iphone. The Tegra 2 chip for the O2X is also really powerful. Since the O2X has lower resolution 480X800, the benchmarks are almost at par with Samsung Galaxy SII. The problems with the phone is lack of development, lack of LG support, and very few extended batteries such as Sensation's 1900mAh battery. I would suggest that you wait for the Galaxy SIII, or HTC One X or the LG optimus 4X.

Right then, Before i start i just want to say I have got a Sensation XE. not sure if thats the phone you are looking at buying but here goes...
i have add to upload the to picasa so ill send you a pm with the url in.
I am trying to compare these two devices because I can get them for the same price.
All the benchmarks I find show the 1GHz OMAP in the LG is faster than the 1.5 GHz S3 in the Blaze. The comparison of the GPU is a bit more even with some benchmarks higher in the SGX some in the Adreno.
For the life of me I can't decide between the two devices.
Blaze has better XDA support, but the L9 has a bigger screen and better battery life.
What do you guys think?
I traded my LG G2X for a Blaze and don't regret it one bit. Better support on xda and LG is horrible at supporting their products. just my two cents.

Yeah, the support for the Blaze is amazing. However I went to the store and tried both side by side and the L9 screen is just gorgeous and larger. The L9 felt far snappier too. I had my mind set on the Blaze but after playing with both I'm not so sure anymore.
The main reasons I went with the Blaze are: a ton of Dev support, light sensor, perfect screen size (for me), and used prices are the best bang for the buck (about $160 for a very good one). The L9 lacks all of those, imo. Also, the L9 looks like a brick with a screen, and doesn't feel as high quality as the Blaze.
just my $0.02.

You're right, the L9 isn't much of a looker, but if you ever held both the L9 is much better (thinner, lighter, wider). The pentile screen on the Blaze looked REALLY bad next to it (which was the reason I had a change of heart in the first place). Like you said, blaze has tons of dev support. I don't care much for the light sensor, i don't have one on my current phone.

And that right there was the reason I went with the blaze - even though development was in its infancy (compared to where it is now), there was no ICS nor an update timeline... but my choice was a bit different and it came down to features. For me it was between this phone and I don't remember what HTC phone it was (it was the lower end Amaze like the blaze was the lower end S2) but it didn't have a micro sd slot. They were similar, use the same chipset, the HTC was a bit larger with a higher display res, had ICS already but with a lower battery life and I think only 8gb of storage. Well T-mo doesn't carry that HTC phone anymore and they still got the blaze... and development here has been superb. We have some great devs pushing this phone forward. Since you are here on XDA the support and development here is the #1 reason (for me) to chose this phone. Also this phone is solid, I've never had any issues with anything not working hardware-wise in the 8 months I've had it.
Blaze for sure. This is a solid phone. I have dropped it a few times and its still going strong. We have GB/ICS/JB and CM9/10. No major non working parts or issues, overclocking available, and as above mentioned great support.
I bought both a Blaze and an L9; the Blaze for me & the L9 for my Mom. I figured she'd appreciate the larger screen & I wanted the faster processor. After reading this thread, seems like I made the right choice.
Sent from my SGH-T769 using xda app-developers app
I just returned L9 back to Walmart because my Blaze arrived back from repairs.
L9 is quite thin and lightweight, the touchscreen is very responsive and just feels better than Blaze's one. I did not play with the custom ROMs as the rooting procedure was different, so I did not bother with it. L9 does not have NFC, but it may not be a big deal for many people because very few use it anyway. The camera quality IMO was the same as Blaze - very crappy. I would say that for $200 seems to be a good choice (better than T989 for $300).

But do you actually see any practical difference (when playing games, etc) ? Blaze is much easier to "root" and install custom ROMs, so I guess it was a good choice for you.
TBH, I haven't played much w/the L9. It feels a bit plastic-y & light, but the screen looks nice. I just flashed my Blaze to racing19969's AOKP JB, & it seems more responsive, & hopefully improved battery life.

Was considering getting an l9 found a 80$ on craigslist but after reading the forums for rooting and development of ROMs don't think I'll be getting it lol, staying with blaze and easy root great devs and roms . Only plus side of the l9 is bigger screen size
Edit: got an Atrix HD instead, only downfall is the locked and signed bootloader :banghead:
