RMA Nexus - will I receive a device with the most recent hardware revision? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is the second RMA I'm about to start. The first one ended with a device affected by dot pixels. I sent it back 10 minutes after I received the package. Now I'm about to ask for a new RMA. Will I receive a device with the most recent hardware revision (larger holes of speaker, more solid buttons)?? I asked google support and they answered that They were not able to answer
Thanks all folks

Probably. If they're out of old Nexus 5s, then they'll give you new ones.

Yes, and here you will see there is only ONE hardware version. rev_11

Someone really has to make a sticky for this. All these "variations" that people are talking about are just manufacturing tolerances. NOT new hardware revisions. The Nexus 4 had hw rev 10, 11, and 12.

It doesn't matter though. People will find a way to argue it both sides. Oh well.
OP: It really doesn't matter what "revision" you get. As long as everything works, just be happy, or wait until there actually is a new revision to RMA.

Nope... some just have bigger ones and some have smaller ones. As I said, manufacturing tolerances.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. There is only one hardware revision. The variances are due to units from different assembly lines. If you exchange a new device, your replacement will be a new device. If you exchange a used unit, you'll most likely get a reconditioned device.

Half right. You will get a new device whether or not you send in a new or used device. That is if you bought it from the play store of course.

You'll get what ever is in inventory at the time. Why do people ask questions that no one here can answer?

Might trade for G2

So I have the G2 and I have a buddy of mine offering to trade it for a 32GB N5. While I know that its basically the same phone I am more encouraged to simply because I feel that the N5 is more future proof.
Am I wrong for this ? Or should I keep it.

You should change the title to "Might Trade for the Nexus 5".
And to answer your question, yes the Nexus 5 should be more future proof than the G2.

I have changed the title I have offers for both white and black versions I've been reading on some new N5 hardware is there anything I should be looking for when choosing between old and new hardware?

The hardware changes include: larger speaker grills and sturdier buttons. Get the version with the newest hardware. You can tell if it's the newer version if the phone's first three serial numbers are above 311 (312, etc).
There's also another way by looking at the HW Version in the fastboot mode. REV_12 or higher should all have the latest hardware revisions.
Fyi, the G2's base cost (~$669.00 unlocked on ebay) is much greater than the Nexus' base cost ($400 unlocked off the play store). Keep that in mind before trading.
The G2 has a better camera and battery.
I almost got one but found a good deal on a Nexus 5.

I personally would go with the Nexus 5 because of official software updates and the day development community that continues to grow!
If you don't care much about development and timely/official updates from google then I'd say stick with the G2.

I would trade the G2 for nexus 5 and sell the g2 and rebuy nexus 5 and you would probably make a profit

I have a day one N5. Not one problem (that wasn't because of KK bugs).
All of this worry would be better redirected to deciding what ROM you're going to put on it. And oh man, what kernel should you use?
I know it's personal preference, but I never understood the color thing. Just don't get it. To each their own, I guess.

No, it's just OP'sluck that he got one with small speaker holes. The 312, 401, 402 aren't revisions. In fact they are the month in which the device was manufactured/packed.
Yes, there was no revision. I have a brand new red one and a 311 white one and there are no differences. Besides color of course Lol
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
The larger speaker holes were for the black one specifically. They probably fixed the glue issue and figured they didn't need the larger speaker holes after a short while. Therefore the red and white ones don't have it. Maybe even the newer black ones don't have them anymore. Never know.
Guys, there are no "revisions" or batches. Devices are produced constantly on a line, where device 9999 may be revision 310 the one after it can be 311. Also no device can be exactly same as the other, thats why some have bigger holes, some have smaller.

There are no "updated holes". Some have big ones. Some have little ones. Its not a conscious decision. Just different machines calibrated differently etc, hence the term "manufacturing tolerances"

That's because they aren't updated holes, just variances in the manufacturing process. Exactly why RootSU said tolerances.

Does Voice Wake (Always-On Listening) work yet?

I'm talking about the always on listening where you can say "Hey Snapdragon" supposedly (same concept for the Moto X) or does it not work yet?
It works... If that's what you call it. Its Qualcomm's implementation. And they didn't seem to do the best job so its not really reliable.

My phone is rooted, has CM11, and also have a badly cracked screen/digitizer. I'm debating if it's malware or just the digitizer. I've ran AVG and Malwarebytes and nothing shows up. Coming here to see what you guys think.

From Googling, people are stating $130 with waiting 1.5 weeks to 3 weeks.
Don't have an extra phone, so getting it fixed where I'm located might be a better.

What he said. If you want the newest device, wait a month for it to be released. If you want the Nexus 5, wait a month for the price to go down. It'd be silly to buy last year's model at full price today when you can get it a month from now at a substantially reduced price.
All in all, still a very good phone. But will be a better deal after the N6 release and the "expected" price drop.

No one can guarantee there will be a price drop. And if there was as with the N4, didn't the stock dry up within a couple days? Not exactly something to set your schedule for IMO.
