hi all,
i was wondering if there's any reason not to use your note intensively while connected to the ac power.
i use my note to do homework while at home and my thought is that keeping it connected will prolong my general battery lifespan...
any thoughts?
thanks
Anyone?

I have two notes stock no root, if I use while chargeing it is not as responsive. Have other androids that do the same.

Hello Guys!
New to XDA but I have been a lurker for a couple of years now. Used the site as an invaluable source of info for dozens of my Android devices.
I have been using my phone as a hotspot for since I am on an unlimited LTE data plan. Since it can drain the battery fairly quickly, I often leave my device hooked on my laptop or to a socket to charge. I was wondering if this can really negatively impact my battery's health. Currently using a LG G2.
PS: I use the hotspot for like 10 hours upwards.

Hi, obayani.
No One really can answer that except battery testers at huge enterprises like LG,Samsung etc...
It is really dependant of your phone`s battery. If you have Li-ion you need not to worry as it`s capacity degrades fairly slow. Other types a bit faster. In general: using phone heavily will degrade your battery by 50% within a year and 75% within 2 years.
Also battery manufacturers suggest to charge Li-ion as often as possible. (in terms that you should not wait till it fully discharges as fully drained battery looses its internal chemical structure thus lowers it`s capacity.)
(Rule does not work for nickel battery. It can only hold certain amount of charging cycles. Again depending on manufacturer.)
Thanks OlegSer for the speedy reply!
That settles another question in my mind. I am more keen to confirm whether using the phone while it is plugged is bad for the battery.

Modern phones are protected from overcharging so in general yes it is not bad to keep it plugged.

Hi,
Thanks for using XDA Assist.
This may be a battery problem, or a problem with your charger. Try changing your power brick/charger cable and try with the official charger. If that doesnt work, it may be your battery nearing end of it's life. You could consider a replacement battery. For more answers and discussion, head on over to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522599
Best of Luck!
I changed the charger and the cable
And the device is new and I don't used it because of this problem
Can it be a software problem ?

Could be a software or hardware issue. But since the device is new, the sensible thing would be to take it to the service centre and either get them to fix it or get a free replacement.
Simple question guys.
Cheers

Thanks for your quick answer. I'm currently using a iPhone 6 plus, thinking of a change.

I'm a pretty light user and can get 36+ hours (more realistically closer to 48+) on a charge, so I get the best of both worlds
I am using the phone a fair bit can usually get more than 12 hours use

Impact on Battery Life with Quickcharge
I have not experienced any Battery Problems jet and i'm charging it every night and my Battery is fine.
quick charger is in the box still. I use what was a Blackberry tablet charger 1.8A with fixed 6ft MicroUSB cable attached. I charge every night and after the first couple days where I was using it constantly I've made it every day without having to charge up. 15-16 hours with more to go before hitting the sack. I always charge when sleeping.

I know a lot of people are getting below average battery life but in my case I'm very impressed with the battery life. I had my first S6 which was decent in battery life for a month, then I switched to the LG G4 for a couple of weeks and now I'm back on the S6. Battery life has really impressed me granted I'm rooted and running a custom rom.

Running rooted stock on ATT, Google Now and location history off, location set to GPS only, I typically get 16-18 hours off charger with 3.5-4 hours screen on. Mostly Facebook/browsing/forums/g+. No gaming.
just as 1st reply...
yes
I'm getting a minimum of 5 Hours screen on time over 48 hour period and around 5.5 to 6 over 24 hours. Quickcharge just means I won't be caught short if i'm using GPS a lot.
I am still testing differences between regular Samsung charger and the quick one ... And for now I think if you charge your phone over night with the regular Samsung charger it gets a bit better ... But I still need more time to come to dome conclusive answers ...

For me it seems to as I don't think there's any problem with the battery on my S6. I always have portable battery packs with me, but I LOVE the rapid charger, it's one of my favourite features. I love getting up seeing my phone at like 15% because I forgot to charge it and thinking crap have to go to work in 20 mins, and being able to plug it in and have it be at like 50% in such a short time period. I find it good enough that it's the only charger I use and make sure I don't lose it!
I recently purchased an S7 (no edge) and it mentioned it had a quick/fast charge feature.. great! Faster charging! However, I noticed that with actual use (with screen off I might add) it doesn't really charges that quickly over the normal charge. Maybe a few minutes less, but not much of a difference..
Anyone else having this issue? Using the global version, no root/no ROM (for now).
Of course it works, are you using the oem charger and cable?
Also make sure Fast Charging is enabled under Settings - Battery

Yes, using the stock charger that came with the device. Thus far, returned the S7 when I first received it due to the same 'fast/quick charging' not working. So, this is the second S7 device I'm having.

Fast Charging is enabled by default, so ya.. that's not the problem either.
Fast charging means tha from 0 to 60 % it charges fast (30 minutes) and after 60% it charges with normal speed.

are you sure about this information man ?
it works but you have to have it enabled in settings/battery.
Recently I noticed that my fast charger wasn't doing it's job as the charge rate was 'standard'. So I checked with old charger from Note 4 and it's cable, it worked wihtout issues as 'fast charge'. I ended up finding out that the problem was the cable I was using, it got damaged because of use and it's not helping the phone to detect the fast charger. So, just in case, change your cable and check again.

This is a stupid question, but did you plug in the cable correctly into the charger? Mine was like half-assed into it the first time and then quick charge doesn't work. Make sure you lube it up nice and wet and slide it in as deep as possible.
i bought one couple of days ago,and neither me, i dont see any difference between fast and normal charging
Coming from OnePlus 7 pro , i really miss the feature to charge really fast even while the screen is on,
Is there any way to force the 25w quick charge to work even while using the device and the screen is on?
Thanks in advance

Oh hell idk, I'm personally not really worried about the difference in time. I can leave my phone alone for half an hour if I really need to anyway. Let it charge in peace.

It does charge at maximum speed. It's just that that the screen takes a lot of power, slowing the charging of the actual battery because you're using the phone at the same time. It can't charge as fast when cpu and the screen are working can it now?

Personally I'll avoid fast charging as much as possible, as heat will build up when you fast charge & heat is the enemy of any lithium based battery.
So I slow charge it over night...and only (super) fast charge it when I'm in a hurry...[emoji16]
