I want app updates on wifi only - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't find any settings for getting apps to update only when on wifi. Does anyone know how to set this?
Edit: nevermind, I guess my settings are already set for "update over wifi only". I could have sworn it updated using data, but oh well.

Open Play Store, click that 3 dots upper right, Settings, Auto-update apps. There you can change your auto-update settings

[Q] unable to download from google play store when on 3g

hi all,
I have samsung p6200 samsung tab.
I am unable to download any app when i am on 3g from playstore. Although downloading works perfect when on wifi.
I have tried the clearing cache fix but doesn work.
Thanks and regards

Open the Google Play Store. On the top right corner you have a menu, go into settings and deselect the update over wifi only option.
P_
did you fix it? im having the same problem here and i dont know how to fix it... already deleted all of the play store data, still nothing...
does it say it is downloading and the progress bar keeps going but no percentage? I've had this too. just reboot once and open up play store, it should resume automatically.
yeah, also uncheck wi-fi only.
Unable to update/download from Google Play/Market
Hi Guys,
I too have been having this problem from the past month.
It works fine on a WiFi connection, but not on data.
I have tried every remedy I cud find, but no joy
1: Clear data/cache method
2: Uninstall/Reboot method
3: Sign in/out method
4: Tried a different Sim card
5: Tried a different g mail account
6: Rollback to Android Market
7: Factory reset
8: Conferred with the service provider (Vodafone)
9: Got the tab updated at an authorized Samsung center.
10: Google Play support (They suck)
I don't think there is anything I haven't tried.
Downloads on the browser work fine, Its just Google play that's acting up.
The status just gets stuck on 'Downloading' and then stops with error 495.
If anyone has had a breakthrough with a fix apart from the ones listed above...please share.
Thank you.
Use search. Plenty of topics on error 495, no need for another.
anyone had any luck..
I too am facing the same problem.. not able to download anything via 3G but working fine on Wifi.
Let me know if anyone was successful.
I never had a problem with 3G on Play Store, in fact I prefer it rather than Wi-Fi.
Try updating your Play Store to the latest one.
Check your mobile settings. Your APNs and all.
Can't really tell a solution because I haven't experience it at all. I'm just here to say that it works great on mine. Even from a fresh clear data on the application(No settings or whatsoever in Play Store options applied).
I'm having the same problem with my N800 Note tablet. Sees the apps in Play Store but the download progress bar jut says downloading with no progress. Download over WiFi only has been disabled.

Check the eee Pad Transformer Q&A threads for error (495). Mcdeep from Pretoria had a fix. (I'd post the link but I'm too itty-bitty on this forum atm. )

I finally managed to solve the problem. Just follow these steps, but bear in mind that i'm using a custom ROM so it might be a little different with you. Go to Settings > Wireless and network > Mobile networks > Access Point Names (or APN). Now select the APN that u are using. (I chose MTN Data since i'm MTN. Now go to "Proxy". There should be a number in there, delete everything that's in there and leave that field blank. Go to "Port" and clear everything as well. It worked for me.hope it works for u too. Let me know.

I have a Note (N-7000) and was having this issue. Found a solution on another forum and it worked for me.
I had actually tinkered with the background data settings to restrict it for some apps. It included Google Play Store as well. Whien I uncheked background data for Play store, the downloads still DID NOT work.
After some search, I found that the 'Media' process should also have background Data enabled for Google Play to work on 3G/Data connection. I had restricted background data for this process as well. After removing the restriction on Background data for both 'Media' & 'Play' Store, I am now able to download over 2G/3G connection as well.
The 'Update over Wifi' setting had nothing to do with the issue apparently.

plus all the google related app must not be data restricted they create problem in one way or other (
Finally solved the problem
Google Play Store is working fine in my Micromax Nitro A310 with 2G mobile data and wi fi but not when on 3G. I tried every trick & tip found in this forum and elsewhere over the internet like enabling background data, clearing cache, clearing data, logging in & logging out, clearing APN proxy and even factory reset. Nothing worked for me. Here's how I resolved this problem.
I use Airtel 3G. In the Access Point Name (APN) settings under "data bearer" default action selected is "not specified". Select "LTE" here. It worked for me

[Q] Can't download/update apps using data connection on play store.

whenever I try to download or update an app from the play store when my wifi is off and only data is on I'm getting a "xxx could not be downloaded due to an error.(404)"
I tried deleting data of everything market/play store related and nothing helped.
When the wifi is on everything works great.
Edit: if im going to the market site and choose to install the selected app on my devices it will also fail if the wifi is off
Also if it matters I'm using the market fix from LCD modder pro
u answered ur own question. Market has a known flaw when interacting with LCD modder and any dpi changer.
As far as I know the flaw is not being able to see/update certain apps, but after using the fix everything works.
And as I said over wifi I have no issues at all only while using data so I doubt that's the case.
Bumping this because I tried restoring to the original market and I still cant download/update using mobile data.
Would be great if anyone can help me with this.
while in market> settings> deselect wifi only.
Sent from my SGH-I727R using xda premium
It's not selected. I think I tried most of the obvious things but thanks for trying.
have the same problem
Did u fined a solution?
Solution
The solution is: go to System Settings > press "More..." in Wireless and Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names (APNs) >press the menu button, inside the menu press "Reset to default“ > now another option will appear called "Internet 3G" (modem) , besides the "Portal 3G". Choose the new option "Internet 3G" and you are done! =] here's a screenshot:
http : / / i47. tinypic .com /2njbv2u. png (delete spaces)
Solution - works
It worked for me although I didn't change to Internet 3G - just reset to default.
Thx. I already tryed a few fixes that didn't work.
Change proxy settings
I removed proxy settings from my APN attributes and then it worked fine.
Thanks a million! This worked for me and has been bugging me the last couple of weeks. Google support had me clear cache, do a data reset of all the Play store related apps/service, along with flip air plane mode on and off. They eventually sent me to Samsung support and they pretty much went over similar steps outside of trying it in Safe Mode. They even had me do a reset with the phone which didn't fix it either. I knew something funky was going on as my wife's Pixel was also doing it. Now I have both phones fixed!

[Q] Why I can't sign in to Google Play Store

I installed Photosphere for ICS. When I am at the setup, I connected to my WiFi, and set the date and time, and when I want to sign in to Play Store, it says that "Couldn't Sign In" (You can see the screenshot below). But I've connected to my WiFi. My WiFi is OK, I can use it in my computer. HELP, I want to download apps from Play Store.
Does the wifi work on the device for internet access? If it does, go back to the time/date settings and set everything manually, don't use ntp/internet sync. Then try again.

You might also need to check that "MOBILE DATA" is enabled. I'm not using stock rom anymore so I can't tell you exactly where to look in the settings, but it should be under "MORE" just under the Wifi settings. May be called "Data". If Mobile data is turned off, it doesn't matter if WIFI is on or not, Google services cannot connect.
Can you go to https://play.google.com/store on the browser of your tablet and login there?
Sometimes I could happen that the Google server is a short time offline aswell.

Google play services draining battery

Hi.. I have a problem. When I'm not using wifi, I find google play services always draining a lot of the battery... the % is always between 10-15% after many hours. I did some changes hoping that it would fix that... like I only sync emails with my 3 google accounts, I disabled totally google now, i disabled google location history and set location to wifi-mobile. But it still drains too much (i think, whats your % on google play services?).
Is there anything else I could do to lower the drainage? I have many apps installed but I cant think of anything that could cause that.
Thank you!
PS One thing I really dont get: why in wifi its not even listed in the list of the apps draining memory, while in mobile data its so high?
Make sure always scanning for wifi is off because that setting always enables if you use GPS and doesn't disabled aftewards
For me it was the Google Backups. That has always decimated my batteries lol.

I would think it would. Do you have screenshots of your battery screen you can share?
Settings > Backup and reset > Back up my data.
You should be able to check data usage by WiFi as well. If anything, I think you can restrict Google Play Services to not use cell data.
Settings > Data usage > (find the app) > Restrict background data (at bottom)
WiFi settings...
Settings > WiFi > More > Advanced

No carrier at all... unbranded. Any idea?
Under data usage I have a menu called "Background data" where I can prevent individual apps from using mobile data when not running in the foreground and not in wifi... problem is that i dont have "google play services" there... i just have a general "google".
And still cant find advanced menu under wifi setting... i checked on google and a lot of people dont seem to have this option anymore even on s6... Im confused tho, some people with s7 have it and some dont??

It is confusing, not sure why it's like that. One would think they'd all be the same.
Maybe someone else here is in the same situation. Not that it matters, but then again might as well ask lol. Are you using a GSM or CDMA phone?

That first pic I don't have the paragraph at the bottom.
The second, for me scanning settings are under Settings > Location > Improve Accuracy.
So there seems to be differences.

I'm in the same boat. A few days ago, all of a sudden, Google Play Services started to eating up my data like crazy. In less than a week it's eaten up over 1GB in the background, and now the "restrict background data" option is gone. Things like these made me want to dump my S7 and switch to a Nexus......
I have a bone to pick as well with Google Play Services, but it's regarding non-stop location requests. I've been searching high and low for similar issue but don't seem to find any.
Just t be clear:
1. I don't use Google Now
2. I have disabled Now Cards
3. I have disabled Location History
4. I have performed factory reset
5. It's not rooted
6. I want to keep Location Service switched on
Under Location, Google Play Services location would always indicate "Battery usage: low" and occasionally shows "Battery usage: high". I use GSam, and it barely register any GPS activity, and I think any GPS activity that is logged would be the ones that was "Battery usage: high".
I also use Greenify to take advantage of aggressive doze but doesn't help with the location issue.
I use Package Disabler and have disabled most bloatware and Google's apps I don't use.
I just want to see of anyone has noticed this on their S7. It's a European variant.
mines having this issue too. it'd wake time is 11 hours today outta the 13 hours off charger. it's been crap the past month. it was OK for 2 days and nowhere near the top, but now it's crap again. getting annoyed with this damn phone.

There was an update of google play services a few days ago to version 9.2.56. Since then I experienced a huge battery drain. I found out that my s7 doesn't go to deep sleep when I switch Bluetooth on and afterwards off. Reverting to an older version of google play services solve this issue for me.

I was having this problem, 65% battery usage with Google Play Service, I set up Google as below and it seems to have worked.
In Settings > Accounts
Tap Google and Turn off all the items you do not need or want to Sync
Also
In Settings > Google under the Services heading
Nearby - Set to Off
Google Photos Backup - Set to Off
Location On but Locating Method - Set to GPS Only
Ads - Op Out turned On
Search & Now > Now Cards - Set to Off, also Now on Tap - Set to Off
Exit out to the Home Screen and reboot your Phone, in the last 21.5 hours no Google Play Service draining the battery.
Failing that working you could try Settings > Applications > Application Manager > Google Play Service tap More and Uninstall Updates as suggested by @DSC05 and reboot your phone
What is the firmware version you are on?
I have a 930F with APE2 firmware and play services is the last on the list with 5% drain. Still, I have a smartwatch (LG Urbane) connected with bluetooth on all the time.

I need help with 2 problems.

I have my Mix 2S for a week now and I'm very happy with it. But..
When ever I turn off the wireless at night time, it turns it's self back on.
I've gone through the settings and can find nothing to help with this problem
My other problem is with the Amazon app store. It installs just fine.
But non of my apps show up in it. I have tried lots of different versions, but non show my apps.
I can pick a app and it will install ok.
I am on the latest Miui global rom.
Thanks in advance
In order to install apps from the Amazon app store, you'll need to turn off MIUI optimization in Developer Settings and restart your phone.
Not sure about the Wireless one.

I had to give permission for amazon app store to "Install apps from unknown sources" it works now.
But the wireless bug is doing my head in.
I went out and set the phone to use mobile data. Only after a hour I noticed it was trying to connect to a wireless point GRRRR
Found out one has to turn off Auto connect doh
Now all is ok
