Looking for assistance with my phone. Currently it will not boot, but does take commands in Fastboot and Bootloader. I have an RUU, but it fails to read the battery level, and states it is below 30%. I extracted the ROM, and tried to zip update, but signature fails. I am very capable of following instructions, but have just hit a dead end. I currently have stock recovery due to TWRP not loading. I currently have 4.2.2 with Sense 5. If any other info is needed I will reply. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can get the TWRP installed, however whenever I attempt to get into it, it simply shows my HTC logo, and at the top in green letters it states entering recovery, but then halts, and does nothing.

Were these the results for both booting and flashing?
When I state boot, I mean by this command:

You are most likely using the wrong TWRP due to your recent OTA.
Download and boot this one. They say it is only for K2_UL and K2_U but it will work for K2_PLC_CL as well. Same partitions. Won't work for K2_CL though. Different partitions lol.

The recovery you linked worked. Thank you. I was hesitant to try one not specific to my version. It appears my internal SD was corrupt as it wouldn't even mount. I am now at a point where I can get into recovery, and mount the int SD, but I had to wipe it.

I do from 10 days ago, that I successfully restored, however it is still getting stuck at boot screen. Potentially a hardware issue? Not sure...
I noticed it no longer displays how charged the batter is while powered down. It just shows an empty battery.

The boot.img has to be flashed when restoring from your backup because you are S-On. Take the boot.img (will be named something else - so rename it to boot.img). Then flash that boot.img using fastboot. That should resolve your boot issue after restoring your device.

No luck. I was able to get the boot.img and flashed it successfully, but it still continues to hang at the HTC quietly brialliant screen.
My Fastboot screen reads:

The version you are using doesn't like custom recovery. I had to downgrade to 2.00 in order to do good recovery on mine. Once working, then i reflashed 2.21, etc.

Sorry it took so long to reply, but have been really busy. I attempted to downgrade using the file you linked, however it fails. It Has the text of press power to reboot in ewd letters, and some unreadable green letters behind it. Pressing the volume bar does nothing, and the HBOOT version stays the same.

You have to be S-Off to downgrade your HBoot. You are currently S-On.

When you wiped your device, did you wipe your system? Because if you did then that is why your phone won't boot even after flashing the boot.img. The boot.img has the kernel which is needed for your device to turn on and operate the android OS but without the system partiton then there is nothing to load from there so it will literally just hang on the splash screen which is that HTC logo. Can you confirm that you did indeed wipe 'system' from within the custom recovery and can you also confirm that you were running on 4.2.2. If both are yes, then I have your solution but it will need to wait until I am off of work, but I can get your phone up and going.

I'll go back a little further. I was on 4.1.x I beieve, and had an update. I backed up, put in stock boot and recovery. I then took 2 updates bringing me to 4.2.2. I was having data issues. No 4g, and intermittent 3g, so I wanted to s-off to reflash my radio. This is where it stopped booting (I ran rumrunner or bootleg), and had to wipe the int sdcard.

Ok, well basically, what is happening is you no longer have /system on your device. So when you flash the boot.img all is well but it hangs when you boot the device because there is nothing in the system partition to load. The system partition is what holds your system apps, frameworks, and so on. Without the /system you won't gain access to your device.

I just remembered you are S-On. So unfortunately, system.img will be a pain for you. I'm booting up my pc as we speak. I will make a Rom for you to flash using TWRP. Ill be back with the link to download the Rom and with very easy instructions (so don't freak out lol).

Hi,
I have a Desire S, which cannot go into recovery. Whenever I try to access recovery from hboot, it vibrates, the screen is black for half a second, then the white screen with green HTC logo, then it stuck there, forever.
I tried to flash revolutionary's recovery, but it's same. Any help?

Hmm... I think you don't have a proper recovery. Can you boot normally?? If yes, just boot normally, install 4EXT updater and flash 4EXT recovery from it. The free version of the app is here - http://www.4ext.net/get.php?apk

Does you device boot normally? I don't believe that you have rooted your device yet?

FYI you can change the your thread #1 title by editing post #1 and using the Advanced EDIT function. button says "Go Advanced" Its also good practice to put [SOLVED] at the start of your previous threads title, so that people know that that problem is fixed.

hello to all!
i hope this is the right place for my problem. today i unlocked my girlfriends desire s with the htc unlock method. then i rooted it and installed superuser, 4ext and rommanger. when i now want to flash a custom rom, the phone restarts, gives me a few seconds a black screen with a green sign in the middle, after this the sign turns red and the phone freezes.
i cant find´any method here to get s-off (the hboot is 2....) all methods for s-off and hboot downgrade that i found here didn´t work..
any solution?
All i want is to flash a custom firmware...

Then, enter fastboot mode on your phone and in CMD (in the directory where you have fastboot) do this -

PATH TO RECOVERY is the path to the recovery eg. C:\downloads\CWM.img
i get to work this and was able to flash a cfw in clockwork-touch-mod but after flashing 2 different cfws, my phone sticks at the green htc logo... i´m so pi**** off.
i guess the problem is that i got hboot 2... and s-on, but i think i have read that when you use the the htc unlock method, you do not have to have s-off

Actually, it wasn't that easy, even after unlocking it says I wasn't rooted. My bootloader is unlocked, restore was flashed, and I get "tampered".
I had to install some kind of exploit that kept failing to change my CID.
Also, my HBoot says S-On, maybe one of the reasons I couldn't use root when I flashed it?

Well of course you wouldn't be rooted after that...do you really think HTC would put out a program that would root our phones and then take responsibility? No.. you obviously did not read at all....once you unlock your bootloader you flash twrp than flash a Rom/ or root... Is that hard to read?
S-on has nothing to do with root. Have you installed a recovery? TWRP?

Yes, I ****ed up. I know. I didn't fully understand what I was doing at first, and just basically skimmed though a couple tutorials before I messed up my phone. If I can get this fixed I know for next time, and probably wont attempt something like this again until I fully understand it. I just want my phone back.

Download viper xl 3.2.3 to your computer (for now then you can switch roms)
Connect your phone via usb to your comp Go into twrp mount your storage and drag the Rom over to the phone where you'll be able to find it on your sd
Now go into the wipe menu in twrp select wipe system and factory reset..
Nowclicj on install in twrp find viper where you put in on your sd and click on and flash it
You now have a custom Rom/root/ fixed phone

Okay, I'm currently downloading the Rom you suggested, going to take a while. Pretty big. Also, when I mount the System, data, and cache, I get a message from windows asking me to format the J: drive. Should I continue?
Another question, after I flash this Rom, would I be able to reset everything back to the way it was? No Root, relock the bootloader, and reset the the main factory rom?

I only have four options to mount, System, Data, Cache, and SD card which wont check when I tap on it.

download the file in the link which above which will include adb and fastboot....put that on your computer somewhere you can find it.. now take the recovery.img(I'll link you in a sec) and place it in that folder... Boot your phone into bootloader scroll down and select fastboot and now open a command prompt with in the fastbootbadb folder on your comp and type to command without the quotes "fastboot flash recovery whateveryouwishtonameit.img"

Will the flash recovery still work, even though my S-ON? TWRP Says it needs to be Off?
You do not need to be soff just follow the directions
Okay so I rooted my one sv just fine and I went to put it back to stock I accidentally wiped the os off of it and for the past few days Iv'e tried everything to put a stock rom back on it but to no prevail. It fails when I flash a rom from my sdcard, adb sideload doesn't seem to work, when I try to fastboot flash a rom.zip it says "FAILED (remote: not allowed), and some other stuff as well that has not worked. My drivers are up to date, adb/fastboot works fine, I can still boot into twrp recovery mode, and my bootloader is unlocked (but still s-on). My rom backup got deleted but I have a stock rom of my device I downloaded that I know works. But as for now if I try to reboot the system it goes into a loop and twrp recovery says I still don't have an os.

Because you are S-On you have to flash the boot.img separate through fastboot. Extract the boot.img from this Rom. Then redo the process again and afterwards flash the boot.img through fastboot.

First Install the rom then extract boot.img from the rom you installed put it in your adb folder run "fastboot flash boot booot.img"

I tried this in a couple different ways: I did what you just said where I flashed the boot.img before flashing the rom in recovery then flashed the boot.img after and rebooted (it was still looping) then I put my sdcard in my computer extracted the boot file to my fastboot folder (again) then deleted it from the zip file and went back into recovery to flash but before I flashed it the second time I wiped everything (cache,data system,int_sd,ect.) then after flashing I hit reboot and it said "my phone wasn't rooted do you want to install superSU?" but either way if i installed it or not it didn't do anything. So is there some other method? or any way I could get S-OFF without an os?

It fails when I flash a rom from my sdcard, adb sideload doesn't seem to work, when I try to fastboot flash a rom.zip it says "FAILED (remote: not allowed), and some other stuff as well that has not worked. My drivers are up to date, adb/fastboot works fine, I can still boot into twrp recovery mode, and my bootloader is unlocked (but still s-on). My rom backup got deleted but I have a stock rom of my device I downloaded that I know works. But as for now if I try to reboot the system it goes into a loop and twrp recovery says I still don't have an os.

Go here and download the twrp twrp recovery backup I have posted and just restore through recovery
If you are not able to side mount just take out the microSD of your device and place it a card reader of some kind on your computer.
Then place it back in the devices and restore
NOTE:
there is a file in the back up named boot.emmc.win
Rename it to boot.img
And fastboot flash boot boot.img
Fastboot reboot recovery
Then restore the backup from microSD card

You might notice it's ICS backup, but as long as you do not mess with anything in the system
Just flash stock recovery from that folder after renaming it of course...
Relock your bootloader
Then accept all updates do you can have JB again
Yeah I just installed the latest version again and it works like the day I got it. So I can go back in and unlock bootloader and S-OFF and whatever else again? And thanks again

Yes, you can. Just make another backup and save a copy on your computer before you do anything crazy.

Hey guys,
My phone died from the dreaded "qhsusb_dload" issue, and since I cannot afford the replacement phone I really want, I bought another AT&T One X.
I had my previous one since March of last year and I have gotten everything done with no issues, including S-OFF, upgrading Firmware to 3.17 to use JB 4.2.2 and trying various Radios and Kernels, so I do have experience.
With this phone, completely stock, I unlocked the Bootloader, and at the top it shows TAMPERED and UNLOCKED. I now have two issues:
1. I cannot get into the Recovery. I flashed it manually from "Fastboot USB", as well as with EZ Toolkit Advanced (Evita) and WinDroidXL Tookit and it showed it was successful with each method, yet when I try to access it, I get the boot screen with the HTC logo for about 3 seconds then it just powers off completely.
I researched and tried TWRP 2.6 as well as CWM from WinDoidXL toolkit. I have also ran the "fastboot erase cache" command after installing the Recovery yet I still have the problem. I installed gapps to accomplish the same thing but I don't wanna use it just yet.
I am asking for help as I am afraid of bricking this phone as well. When it powers off after failing to access the Recovery, it stays off for a while, and Device Manager even shows "qhsusb_dload" I have to hold the power button for a long time (and multiple times in some instances) before it powers on and boots into the OS.
Please help me get this working as I am afraid to try it again with the fear of having it bricked.
I do not have root access (I need recovery to flash t he Super User zip file first, correct?) and my HBoot is 2.14 (can't remember what it was on my last phone). Do any of those play a part in the problem i'm having?

My phone works fine with stock ATT 4.1.1 that it came with, it's just the Recovery that won't launch, even though it appears to install fine when I flash it with fastboot.
My Bootloader shows:

No, but I have tried 2 different versions from here, the one I had on my previous Evita, and I have also used the ones embedded in the WinDroidXL and EZToolkit Advanced (Evita).
I've seen others saying their phone ends up booting normally after selecting Recovery from the Bootloader but mine just powers off when I select it and I can't find a previous thread with this issue.
It's possible your partitions are a bit funky. Running the 3.18 RUU might help.

You can disregard all that. I ran the install for TWRP 2.6.3.0 from the EZToolkit Advanced (Evita) then cleared the cache with the automated option in the same Toolkit, which I have tried like 10 times a few hours ago and now it's working... I swear all I did differently was leave the phone idle and plugged in for a while.
I'd still like to get the S-OFF done at this time. When I run "fastboot getvar cid" it returns "cid: 11111111" which means I have SuperCID and I can go through with S-OFF?
Finally, I cannot find a S-OFF guide for HBOOT 2.14 and ATT Firmware 3.18. This is for my HBOOT but not my Firmware http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42631876
I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485865 which states it's for 3.18 Firmware but shows nothing for my HBOOT.

You have no idea how terrified I am right now, modding a phone that is basically the same as the one that got bricked a few days ago.

Just RUU'd again so:

CID: 11111111
Bootloader: unlocked
Security: Off
For some reason the time on the bootloader screen says nov 26 2012 :/

What Rom u on? Stock roms don't usually come with a reboot choser. If that's your case..download quick reboot from the market

Exactly which recovery are you flashing? What's the exact filename? What method are you using to boot into the recovery?

I just want to be clear so as not to create any confusion, the volume down + power button combination doesn't boot the phone to recovery, it boots the phone to the bootloader.

1) Nope not via adb. rebooting via fastboot or manually. Although I did try adb and no dice.
2) What drivers are you talking about? And as for the rest of it, I don't think that's how it works :S Once the device is off, holding volume down doesn't take you to recovery. It goes to the bootloader and then you have to select recovery and go there. If you could clarify this part, it would be helpful.
3) On the stock Rogers version of the stock rom. 1.94 I think. And yeah there is no way to get to the recovery from within the rom. Have to reboot with volume down held down. Or try and do it through adb. Both of which I have tried, to no avail.

Okay so I've tried many different recoveries. Here they are:
1) 2.7.0.0 and 2.7.1.0 both taken from here: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/evita
2) 6.0.4.8 the touch version of the HTC One X(ATT) taken from here: https://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
3) and 2.7.0.8 unofficial taken from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2738246
I tried them all with the same filename as downloaded and I tried them after changing the name to 'recovery'. The methods I've been using to boot into recovery are:
1) After flashing, type in fastboot reboot-bootloader and then select recovery.
2) From the rom, reboot phone and hold down the volume down button, then from bootloader select recovery.
3) From the rom, adb reboot recovery.
None of these work. The phone simply bypasses recovery and goes to the rom.
Can you please post the first five lines of your bootloader for me, exactly letter for letter.

I only have one idea, and that's to run a much more recent RUU in the hope that updated firmware will fix your issue. You need updated firmware anyway, otherwise you won't be able to flash any current ROMs. You're s-off so you can run any Evita RUU regardless of the carrier, no locking of the bootloader is needed, just connect your phone and run it. The 3.18 at&t RUU is the one you want, you'll find it here:

Once you've run the RUU, try flashing a recovery again and report back.
