Credential Storage Password - Droid Ultra Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Prior to upgrading to Kit Kat FoxFi worked with no problems. Since upgrading it won't set up because it's asking for a Credential Storage Password. I've researched this and can't seem to find the answer. One solution was to keep putting in a wrong one and eventually it would erase the storage and allow you to set a new one. I did that and it didn't work, but it did erase all credentials.
Now I'm at a loss. I'm not sure if it is a software issue that FoxFi needs to work out or a security block now in place with Kit Kat.
Any thoughts? Suggestions? Ideas?

After a bit more research looks like this is being discussed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2543259 for the Moto X. Same problem for the Maxx. Hopefully FoxFi fixes it for us.

Not recieving SMS, can rooting fix this?

II think i have the SMS problem from the memory filling up. I don't receive any texts and I've factory reset already. I can send just not receive. If I root my phone is there anyway I can fix the setting that is messed up? I JUST put my invisible shield on and don't want to pay another $15 for a new one.
No one? Has anyone else has this problem of not receiving sms after a low memory warning?
I'm sure once a custom ROM is released, someone will have looked into that problem and fixed it in the ROM.
For now the only way to fix it is to exchange it for a new one. Rooting the phone and using the Modaco custom ROM did not fix the issue. Try to avoid using bluetooth to keep the storage memory from leaking when it gets stuck connecting. Sprint is not the best at disseminating information to it's employees so if they try to give you any problems reference one of the threads on the official Sprint forum. Will and the Sprint phone team have been able to replicate the issue with multiple phones and bricked them.
http://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/23854?tstart=0
Actually, I had the same issue when I first got my HTC Hero from Sprint. Call the actual support number. They did a walk through with me to change a system number setting. I've been able to receive text ever since. Except twitter which seems to be a Sprint global issue.
Just read this in the Sprint forum, appears it might be a workaround if you root your phone. Now if we can figure out the commands to safely delete these files, it could be done in terminal.
I think I may have found where this memory is going.
After rooting the phone, I was poking around in the /data folder and noticed a bunch of ~6.5 MB core dump files in the /data/btips directory. BTIPS appears to be a bluetooth-related service.
So I'm guessing that Bluetooth service crashes, which may be manifest partially as BT devices sitting at the "connecting..." phase, are generating core dumps that are left on internal memory and shouldn't be.
I deleted all of these files (all named core.xxxx where xxxx is a string of numbers), rebooted, and reclaimed almost 70 MB of internal memory. You do have to root your device in order to delete these files, though.
The HTC devs already know this, as wengla indicates, but it might help the few of you experiencing this problem with a rooted phone.
I've already hard rest the phone so no files anymore, but whatever flag is set is permently set. I don't get how, especially after a hard factory reset. So as long as no one knows what that is even rooting won't help me. I am getting a new phone but it ticks me off especially since I just installed an invisible shield on it.

Reversing Pattern/Password/PIN encryption on Lollipop

Hi all,
Everywhere I looked online said that the only way to reverse encryption is to factory wipe. Yet, today, when I went to change my lock screen pattern, I was offered the option to choose whether I still wanted to encrypt my phone with this pattern. I chose no, for the heck of it, and on reboot, it didn't take me to the decryption screen. Went straight to Android.
I'm guessing that the encryption is still there, but it's somehow just bypassing it. Any ideas on how to verify that it's still encrypted?
This is on Stock Lollipop 5.0.1 with no root
EDIT : My phone's encryption status still says "Encrypted" even though it doesn't ask me for a pattern
First, take a pencil and draw an outline of your phone on a plain piece of cardboard paper. Second, this isn't helpful goodnight.
Wrong section dude, you wont get answers here. Go to the Q&A section.
Thank You, bor3d2damax for pointing out the incorrect section! Now that it's in the right section and NolenUmar has shown how childish he can really be - Any ideas as to how to verify that it's still encrypted?

In Lollipop it lets you encrypt without a security method (its even enabled by default on a Nexus 6). A little pointless since it'll just slow down read/write and hardly provide any security, as well as having the usual encryption issues, but whatever.

I see. So it simply goes back to that method. Thank You for clearing that up.

Wifi / Bluetooth / Sim Card Issues Since Last Two OTA Updates

I received an OTA Update in early to mid May. I am now forgetting which version I received at that time. ( I forget as I have done so many downgrades/upgrades/factory resets in my troubleshooting the last month!) Up until these issues, I've never rooted or flashed a ROM, or unlocked boot loader or anything. My N5 had always been completely stock.
First Issue
It all started with just the sim card. I get "no sim card" message, even though it was in there. This was my original SIM card and I had never ejected it since I bought it new. I found I could turn it off, pop it out and back in, and boot it again. Sometimes it will see the sim card again. It may take 20 times, but finally work.
I naturally got a new sim card, as well as confirmed said sim cards worked in other phones. My wifi and bluetooth were working fine at first. Working with google support, they recommended a factory reset to fix the sim card issue. Immediately after the factory reset, my bluetooth would no longer turn on nor show a MAC address. At this point, my wifi was fine.
Second Issue
In addition to the sim card slot issue, now my Bluetooth no longer works! Around this time, I received another OTA update, this time it was 5.1.1 LMY48B. I had hoped it would fix the issues, but no dice! I start reading up on the XDA forums as I am determined to start rolling back to see if this will fix anything. I unlocked the boot loaded, rooted, etc following the threads on XDA
Third Issue
I do all sorts of flashing to hammerhead-krt16m_4.4 to hammerhead-ktu84p_4.4.4 to hammerhead-lrx21o_5.0 to hammerhead-lmy48b_5.1.1 . On the final flash back to 5.1.1 my wifi now no longer works!!!!!!!!!!! It is stuck at wifi turning on and no MAC address shows. It also seems my cell data is very very slow now!
After many calls to google, I think I finally succeeded in getting a “ticket routed up”. My phone is from the play store around 10/31/2013. They keep pushing I am out of warranty. I attempt to ask for a refurb N5 without luck so far. I am not very confident anything will come from google. This being my only handset now, it is just not an option to send this to LG. My current state is my voice/txt and cell data are working. Data seems a little slow but usable. Wifi and bluetooth won't turn on. I also still have the sim car slot issue upon rebooting. After a bunch of reboots it will eventually see sim card.
What else can I try? Is there a better way to attempt to repair/reload my radio drivers? Perhaps there is corruption of sorts? I have not tried a custom ROM or radio or kernel…… I did take to a local tech. They looked at everything literally under a microscope and did not see any issues that way. I am in the USA and have a lgd820. Although we are quick to assume a hardware issue, I am wondering if there is some sort of incompatibility with the first run of N5 and lollipop….. who knows!
I’ve read all sorts of threads on the internet. It seems I am not the only one. We are very quick to assume it must be a bad motherboard, it just seems too coincidental to me!

Hi,
This link was actually what i was going to suggest. It seems you've tried pretty much everything in the book except that.
I think its worth a try. Same as any other learning process, take your time and read the whole thing once or twice until you feel comfortable with the process. Then go for it.
Darn it, I should have downloaded those programs BEFORE rooting my phone again. Now I a struggloing to get my SIM card detected again to get data to DL them! whooops!
How would I go about attempting to read my files first to see if they are accessible and potentially write down my old MACs first?
EDIT: I found this but not sure how to get that working? I have Windows 7 and CMD prompt at this point. what program is that using?

OK, I went through those steps. everything appeared to go through correctly. Still no wifi nor bluetooth
EDIT: I rebooted a second time. WHen it first boot up, wifi was on and connected to my works AP. I quickly went in and snagged a screen shot of MAC address. Oddly enough, it did not match what I had input via hex editor. Within a few moments the wifi stopped working. It is back to the turning wifi on issue..... bluetooth still not working as well.
Very interesting.....
EDIT2: I get access denied when attempting to read either files within their corresponding folders under persist.
I was able to copy my stock files into my sdcard download folder and read them there without issue. Thus seeing my default addresses for both!
Perhaps it is normal, but I am never able to edit the old or new files under persist. I basically renamed original folders to bluetoothold and wifiold. I could delete them perhaps.
Note that I put my phone into airplane mode before doing anything noted in the steps.
Any other ideas? Given that it is showing my original MAC address the one time it worked, this makes me think that it is not reading the files .macaddr at all
I have the same problem. Funny thing is, the phone is just over 2 years old and the motherboard was replaced just 9 months ago (so, brand new one).
In my case, I received and Android update 2 days before I found the phone burning hot and restarting on it's own. Then the same chain of events you describe started to unleash. Now I can't be sure if this is software related, hardware related or both.
Can't seem to find a solution to the issue either.

I'm facing the same issues and I tried all the possible steps I could find on internet trying to repair the problem.
Actually, since the latest updates I was encountering some issues with the WiFi only: not turning on either off and not showing properly the MAC addres. So I decided to factory reset, even SDcard and since yesterday I have tried all the possibile guide I found to internet to fix the MAC address not showing and the WiFi not turning on/off but nothing worked. I tried even to flash again the old factory images, such as KitKat, Lollipop, etc., to lock the bootloader again and to dismantle the phone in order to clean the motherboard, but nothing worked. Phone still gives me MAC address 02:00:00:00:00:00 alternatively with the correct one, I can't figure out on what it depends because sometime it seems to work: it shows the correct MAC, it connects to wifi network; suddenly it doesn't!
I'm really going crazy to understand what's wrong.
You'll have to dig up my final posts on this , but in a nutshell, send into LG for repair, select cheapest option they offer. Receive mint phone. My cost was $45 and about one month... I picked up a cheap $20 phone to get me by.
In other news.... I now have a 6p!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Could a device be tampered with through mail

Hi!
During the last 6 months I've had a real problem with my online security. Bought a MacBook Pro which turned out to have had a root virus installed, infecting my Wi-Fi and thus all units who connected to it.
Took me a while to figure out...
First I had a brand new, out of the box Xiaomi MI 9 that got rooted OTA and I lost admin privliges etc.
From my experiences with that and from what I could gather I think it might have had something to do with this cloak and dagger virus thing, overlay and ****ing permissions hidden and yeah I really dont know, anyway.
Today I still worry about what happened. I know much is irrationell since I no longer have any Wi-Fi, instead I use unlimited data and got my self a new Oneplus 7T.
Not even enabled developer options nor touched the bootloader or usb debugging.
When I first bought it, (I had not been able to browse the internet nor search the info before bc of above) I ofc asked the store if they had any type of deal or knew of for a reliable VPN.
Unfortunatley, due to my lack of research, being locked out of my mail acc etc I ended up with a second license of Mcafee Internet security vpn, proxy.. (Probably have around 10-15 of those, containg True key and virus protection)..
This is where my fear comes in again.
Been trying to find an answer to this but I can't find enough to have piece of mind, or my 6 months "rehab" from the internet and technology made me a noob at googling.
Bear in mind, I also have and had Malwarebytes Premium, now I also use ExpressVPN instead of Mcafee. (Though I think I'll take advantage of this life time deal on Ivacy VPN today.).
Back to my first fear.
- Mcafee Internet security + Malwarebytes.
As mentioned I lost my mail accounts. Lost or lost, I reclaimed them and eventually locked them with a Yubico key.
Trying to retrive the Gmail on my new device I could swear my menu altered and Android all of a sudden allowed other users, ("All users get their own space, acc, etc").
Still having PTSD (how I refer to it) after this spring I wiped it all, didn't use it for a week, wiped it some more, hahah, and I begin to use it again.
I changed pass, added Yubico key, log out of all devices nor do have anything worth stealing. I wonder If there is anything I'd might have missed?
Ex, might be of topic.
When I try to restore my messenger password. I get the mail, enter the code and proceed to change pass when the code no longer is valid, permission #200 something. This ofc gets me thinking that my mail somehow might be forwarding my mail, syncing them? Gdrive have previously been set to auto sync and then I've unknowingly loaded malware in previously used phones.
I'll to summarize my question.
I guess I wonder if it could be dangerous in somehow or possible to install something on my new device through Gmail if I decide to log in again? Just saw my fb acc is schuduled for delete tommorrow, which is why I'm posting here, could use some advice.
While I'm at it I also am curious if there are any good info regarding Android security. Because I would like to flash a new rom without all bloatware, Google stuff etc and keep reading about safetynet and Selinux.
Also, good tip if there any on how to disable ssh, sftp, stf and all that? During this that happened I also found Samsungs Knox good, probably bc it wont work with overlay? Are there anything similar to Knox for a Oneplus? Many questions in one but I also wonder; I know that I once used my NFC security key one the Xiaomi, when it was infected. Could the key somehow been copied? Might be a bit over cautios,

Question IMEI / fingerprint problems... Any fix?

So today I'm doing the usual flashing of new roms to try them out and I run into a problem. During device setup, Google Fi fails to activate giving error code B042, and also errors out when it's time to register my fingerprint. Didn't think much of it at first, but now I've tried everything I can think of with no luck. Eventually I notice both IMEIs are listed as all zeros. I've wiped data multiple times, reflashed many factory and custom rom versions both with Android flash tool and manually, and always get the same issue with Fi activation and fingerprint scanner not working. I talked with Google techs and they just tell me to take it to Best Buy where it was purchased. I'm thinking a partition must have corrupted or something that doesn't restore during a typical reflash. Can anyone comment on what's going on, and if there's a way to go about fixing it myself. I do have both IMEIs listed on the box if there's a way to go about restoring them, but I doubt that would do anything with the fingerprint problem if even possible. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Been on these forums for a decade and this may be my first time posting since I've always been able to work through problems myself, but I'm totally stuck on this one. Oh and the Pixel 7 pro I just bought to mess around with root and roms as a second phone, and my main S22u is still working fine, so not exactly an emergency or anything. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like your EFS partition got corrupted...
I haven't done anything with my P7P, it's stock, so can't offer any advice other than a google search to get you started... here
If the mod will erase it not state it. You mess with that you are on your own? Broke the op as well. Just delete it.
