CPU Frequency Issues - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I got my phone on Christmas and on both DroidKang and Beanstalk Linaro I've had issues with the CPU frequency sticking to even the stock frequencies. I've tried many kernels and I get the same problem. I'm currently on the official BeanStalk build and there are no problems with stock kernel or Chaos. I'm assuming this is not the intended behavior?

do you have busybox installed? you need it. install stericsons busybox app from the play store, open it, install busybox.

Had not tried this, will look into it when I have time to flash a ROM.
Edit: Nope, same issues. I clean flashed Droid Kang and max and min are both at 1.5 but I can change the max, the min won't stick no matter what.

I think you need to grab an OC kernal, and there is an app you can use for your processor. I think in development if you look at a sticky it tells you everything.
Just download and flash a custom kern that's OC'able and then install an app (I use setCPU) to over clock to your desired clock speed.

Why does my Phone reboot during a call?

I am trying to find out why my phone is doing this? Could it be a rom or kernel issue? I am running asop+ 2.2 rom and glados 2.7. Or could it be a radio issue?
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
Glados has a problem with rebooting while calling
It's a known issue in GLaDOS thread. However, some users get a lot of reboots, some never get one.
If you want a quick fix then try flashing another kernel.
Thanks any suggestions on kernals? I have had nothing but issues with matr1x and now it seems glados is giving me issues.

Known issues with GLaDOS. If you want to stay with GLaDOS, you can try:
-Up the voltage a bit if you are using liveoc (or disable liveoc)
-Don't overclock at all
-Disable deep idle
Or you could try matr1x again and maybe up the voltage 25mV across the board (except for 100 and 200mhz) as it is underclocked by default which your phone may not like. Otherwise i'd be trying netarchy, eugene's icup or francos kernel.

I'd suggest you start with Eugene's kernel (ICUP) because I have used it for a week without a single reboot
Disable deep idle, fixes most problems.
99 problems but a deep idle ain't one.
I switched to icup and it seems to be doing good. Thanks guys. I never had deep idle enabled so that was not my issue

I'd try to upgrade to ICS or reinstall the ROM. Also check your battery. It it heats abnormally, that might be the issue as well...
Aosp+ 2.2 is ics... but regardless changing kernels fixed the issue.

Yeah idk why you would be having problems with matrix, I doubt it's the kernel.

Did you try to have prolonged phone calls as well? That's when it crashed... Every 3 minutes or so. The rest is perfectly fine...

Getting CPU settings to stick

I have been unsuccessful on being able to get CPU settings to stick. I am on clean kernel and its overclockabke up to 1.9, and the low side can be under clocked to 192, with default being 384.
I personally want mine to stick at 192 low and 1728 high...and it does for maybe 5 minutes, then its back to the CPU wide open at 1.9 and low 384.
What can I do to get my settings to stick? I have set on boot checked.

most early kernels were made to run at the creators best stable overclock. i would use a newer kernel that might have more inherent flexibility such as the new beastmode v4 or ElementalX which might allow you to get a stable overclock at frequencies lower then max.

Negative on Beastmode v4. I'm still trying to figure out how to flash that kernel.
In the mean time, I've flashed ElementalX v1.14. So far, settings have stuck, and I'm using kernel tuner.
No frills CPU app works very well for me. Kernel tuner was unable to keep my settings where i wanted them.

1.)Kernel updated to linux upstream version 3.4.104 straight from kernel.org and to B14CKB1RD v2.3
2.) Added Fast Charge support
3.) Added Optimax Governor and removed unneccesary ones
4.) Did various other fixes in source
As usual my personal preference is Wheatley Governor and SIO I/O scheduler as i get great performance and battery life with it
Awesome!! Thanks for your work. Great battery and performance with this kernel in liquid, carbon and omni! Thanks for do it

Which one do I need for cm11, is it TeamApexQ Roms ?
Can you rename the files to see a difference ?
I can't vouch for which one cm11 will use as its kernel varies between both...what happens is between my ROMs and omni/fat toad is graphical tearing...if one of these 2 causes this said tearing then try the other...I'd say try using TeamApexQ version first...

Is there an app you use that accesses system files...such as WiFi related...especially one with a lot of ads...or anything...certain themes may also cause reboots as well as using certain kernel tweaking tools

Notice reboots typically occur when accessing data (Internet) but not only Wi-Fi. No games, just Googling something. Also, using no themes. Did use trickster mod to set up your recommendation of sio/Wheatley, but that's it.

That's most likely the reason you get reboots...trickstermod is a known issue on a few devices....you can actually set governer and i/o scheduler under performance settings itself....unfortunately there no known fix even if you uninstalled the app except for clean wiping....I do not use any tweaking apps and have yet to get any reboots

I also have trickster mod along with pimp my rom, and a few others. I have also experienced some reboots until I put min at 1350 and max at 1512 and performance gov and io scheduler row. To do a "clean wipe" does this mean a full factory reset. I hope not. That is just something I am not going to do. That's why I'm still on carbon and not on the liquid rom.

i suppose a uninstall of trickster mod AND pimp my rom and a dalvik wipe and cache wipe then do a dirty flash of rom and then do the kernel same method will work...but curious as to why use outdated and unsupported apps like this when it has it built into the rom itself....im not intending to come off negative but this app and kernel tuner has been widely known since jellybean to cause reboots and even bricks of some devices. the min cpu should also NEVER be set higher than 480....thats one way to really overheat and kill battery hence why i removed the mpdec touchboost that teamapexq uses
I'd love to add some (or all) of the governors and schedulers to the stock kernel (4.1.2). Do you have a github for the source? It would be super appreciated.

Interesting perspective. I've rooted and run many custom ROMs and kernels on a Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, HTC One m7, and Nexus 5 with Trickster Mod and have never seen that app cause random reboots if the kernel parameters are set within reason (no UV or OC). Maybe I've just been lucky, but that would be very, very lucky as that lack of reboots applies to every ROM and every kernel combination with every single device I've tried over a few years. Even though I'm selective as to what I flash, that's in the hundreds as I can flash several times a day. And all with Trickster Mod on board.
The Relay 4G just seems unduly fragile to me. I've seen it reboot more times in a week than the other devices I mentioned randomly reboot in a year. I'm certainly not blaming any dev for this (and am thankful for all the efforts put here) and want to acknowledge just how difficult it must be to squeeze these great ROMs into a device that probably wasn't designed to handle them. Again, no disrespect to the OP.

Well nexus devices are built pretty vanilla when it comes to android so its compatibility outreaches more....I've had reboots on every Motorola and HTC devices I've owned....I know for me I haven't had a reboot but I guess I'm lucky....but it could just be small incompatibilities in our code that may cause this and we just haven't found them or figured it out yet

Which is probably why, as a flashaholic, I stick to Nexi(?). My girlfriend, however, insists on a physical keyboard *sigh*.
Thanks for the ROMs and kernel; you're singlehandedly keeping this device relevant. Well, you and TeamApex.

It also sucks since we are Verizon variants we have to have different kernels and I don't think we have enough devs who care about our variant yet to make kernels. I want to overclock but can't cause the kernel out there right now won't work on the Verizon variant.

Also what are you using to set the cpu speeds? Me trying to set the speeds with the default viper one rom settings isnt working for me. Im wondering if I need to buy his app to make it work.
