Hello my fellow android enthusiasts,
Just thought i would mention this here in case some of you have never been over to the development section.....
Lately I have reached a whole new level of performance with our tablet.
The web version of youtube is working so well i can run it in floating browser on top of what i am doing, which allows me to browse the web and listen/watch youtube at the same time without any lag . I love multitasking with background youtube so this is huge for me.
When I say I get zero lag when using floating browser I literally mean zero lag. I am currently watching a youtube video in the floating browser while typing this sentence in the stock browser. I am getting zero keyboard latency or frame skipping in the video. I can load a page in the stock browser while dragging the floating browser playing youtube and the dragging does not stutter and the video does not skip any frames. This is all beig done in balanced mode clocked at 1.6 Ghz MAX. This sht is nuts, I have never been able to get performance this smooth, even when I had 4.1 fully optimized back when I first wrote my guide in May. As soon as I get back home I will record a video of this because you guys have got to see this. Its unbelievably smooth.
Booyashaka!!!!!!!!!
Sorry for the overly excited post, my mind has just officially been blown lol
If you would like to get your tablet running this well check out my guide to optimization. See the following link - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2232715. It contains every tweak i have implemented to get to this point and it is written such that even a total noob could easily implemet them.

Just wondering if anybody else browses the Battle.net Starcraft 2 forums on their Captivate and if you have issues. With Eclair it was no problem. Then I switched to the official release of Froyo and the whole battle.net site and forums are basically unusable, it is so freaking slow.
So I decided it was time to switch to a custom ROM and went with Serendipity 5.12 (now on 6.2) and the problem persists. It feels like the CPU jumps to 100% and I can't hardly do anything. No other webpages perform like this and I have reflashed several times.
Anybody else ran into this?

No need to be sorry about lyfao but what exactly are you lyfao about? I have observed a distinct difference between the behavior of the web browser on a particular webpage between 2.1 and 2.2 that is bugging the hell out of me. And I'm trying to figure out if it's something I can fix and if anyone else has observed similar behavior. But thanks for replying to my thread, buddy!

What's wrong with browsing the Starcraft site? It's an awesome game.
Anyway, I don't do it on my Cappy but I'm guessing the speed might be flash related? That'd be the major difference between 2.1 and 2.2.
Have you tried other browsers?

Go into your browser and hit menu, then more, then settings, then enable plugins, then on demand or always off. That should speed things up a bit.

I've never done so myself, though I am quite the sc2 fan, working on getting to masters.
Loaded up the forums on the phone, at first it was snappy. Then the phone got very laggy when scrolling and very choppy.
I found that zooming in, signifigantly helped, however the webpage, by default, loads zoomed out. This made for a very frustrating experience when flipping through pages.
I played around with the settings, I left the phone with 2 non default choices. Default zoom, close. Javascript off. I found this made for a very snappy experience, loading pages was quick, smooth, and scrolled nicely. I hope this fixes your issue.
Yeah I noticed its super slow as hell. I don't know why

Guys thanks for the suggestions, the browser settings tweaks seem to have helped a bit (although it is still flakey). I tried Firefox and it seemed better as well but I don't know... Firefox seems really clunky to me I can't really stand using it. Maybe I'll try another browser but with the tweaks it's more usable.
After the update to 3.1 it seems to be a lot more laggy and benchmark is quite abit slower????

wow keyboard lag system lag!!!!! NOT HAPPY!!!!
keyboard lag reached a new high when browsing forums and larger webpages.
I AM NOT AMUSED
Slower here, transitions are even worse than before
Quandrant went from 2000 to 1500!
I'm am seeing all of the above - starting to wish I hadn't upgraded. Scalable widgets are great but not worth the slow-down - especially as I don't even have the option of a gmail widget at the moment!

I have to agree with you. In general my experience has been pleasant. Although I haven't had the update for very long I have had to force stop the browser as it got extremely slow and wouldn't load pages (at one point the page was just lines of green) properly after a while of use. Has anyone come across this issue?
Well I have to say I'm really happy with the update so far. I've still got my Gmail widget and i don't see any lag at all. Typing has been a breeze, before it used to lag a hell of a lot but I'm typing pretty fast ATM and its keeping up with me no problem. I've also seen that some people cannot get the zinio app to work and I've been on mine and it works perfectly.
I don't understand how some people are getting different things from the same uodate.
Mabee because people rooted or summit? I've not touched mine its stock, although I wouldn't have thought that would have been a problem at all.

+1.. 3.1 is working flawlessly on my TF.. everything seems a lot more responsive
I am a bit confused about the different user experiences since upgrading also. I guess my unit was from one of the first batches as I have had it since a few days after launch, but I haven't put any custom roms or rooted or anything. And still I am getting a worse experience since upgrading, along with missing gmail widget.
Think I will have to do a factory reset and see if that fixes things

No lag here, it feels more tweaked out, youtube is fast, and the so called jutter effect while using the slider in the browser is'nt that bad as i saw in some vids.

After using the TF for some time after boot, the browser seems to force close without any error every time I open it and browse to a webpage. a reboot fixes it for awhile.
The you tube app works fine but I was trying to play a vimeo HD video in the browers and it wasn't pretty. audio is smooth but the video was just black for awhile and then showed up and started chopping.
I'm running the leaked 3.1
Overall performance seems good though.
Just did the ota upgrade last night and been browsing and checking youtube. Everything is working better for me.
Smooth browser scrolling
Can load large webpages
Keyboard lag much improved. Not perfect but workable.
720p video in youtube is smooth
Not fixed though is my weather widget on the home page. Will cut off the temperature a bit if rotating a certain way. No biggie.
Overall, I feel much better about this device.

Maybe any links to what the browser is capable of in ICS?
Check the development forum...ICS is amazing, and the browser is much faster now.

Pretty much this. I have noticed a big difference in page rendering on ICS. I won't go as far as to say it's revolutionary because I don't think HC was that bad, but it is definitely improved.
Some pages, like XDA forums, are particularly bad in the honeycomb browser. No such issue on ICS browser. This page renders and scrolls smoothly, just like many other.
Thanks for the replies. I just picked up the Asus Transformer Prime & the keyboard dock. I'm looking forward to ICS on this baby.

One major difference is the iPad is not loading the Adobe Flash content/ads. XDA is extremely bad because of all the ads it has embedded. My suggestion is (if your not using my ROM) is to get an ad blocker, pages will load much faster.

The only other browser that I've used on ICS is the new Firefox. Firefox isn't as snappy as the ICS browser but doesn't seem to have the issues with links not opening. I'm also not a huge fan of the Firefox UI, so I tend to use the stock browser most of the time.
I find that setiing plug ins to "on demand" makes a big difference, the browser isn't trying to load all the flash stuff then. Mine is now pass able, still not as smooth as the ipad or ie9 in wp7 but I do have flash available which mostly makes up for the laggy performance.
definatly alot smoother.

I have a copy and paste app that just takes a long press to activate. Clip It works really well. There are quite a few free apps that do this...they are just resident and are available when you need them.
The long press can do wonders in android...many possibilities.

Its something that modifies the Android framework, so it cannot be a regular app. It has to be cooked into the ROM by the developer in order to be used. It's also incredibly unstable and is renown for breaking root access while open. The kinks are being worked out...

Thanks for the tip!
I just installed this app, and wow! I wasn't even sure I had any use for it, but after a couple minutes I was enjoying the heck out of it. I usually use the desktop view in my regular browser (Dolphin), so I'll just keep this one in mobile view and use it for quickly checking out links without switching away from Tweetdeck or whatever I'm in. In fact, it's awesome to be able to click a link, start that page loading, and then continue browsing through tweets or posts while the page/video/whatever is loading in the Overskreen window.
It's very smooth, too; almost too responsive, if that's possible. I'm impressed.
The one down side is lack of flash support in Android 2.x. However, 3.0 and 4.0 are supported, so that shouldn't be an issue for much longer. If I need to visit a flash site, I can just jump over to Dolphin anyway.

Thanks for letting us know about this, I installed it without knowing if it was something I would use but on first run I saw many benefits, especially on a large screen device like the Note.
I particularly liked the fact you can view YouTube vids full screen then scale the browser window to whatever size you want, then maybe have a cool tutorial video in the corner as you work on the app underneath!
It was a bit pricey but I think in this case it was worth it.
I'm about to go pick one up at the AT&T store and had 3 questions before I do..
1) I heard that the Web Browsing isn't smooth... like when you double-tap to zoom in or pinch-to-zoom it freezes and loads or whatever.
2) When you are recording video; it has terrible frame rate when you are moving the camera around...
3) Is this phone worth it?

I have taken several videos and haven't had any framerate drops. That's not saying it doesn't happen, but it hasn't happened to me yet.
The stock browser does have some jerkiness due to the text reflow. Some don't like the reflow, but I absolutely love it. If this bothers you, you can use another browser. Chrome Beta and Opera work great on this phone.

Just my personal experience, but I find the Chrome browser to perform poorly on this phone, compared to Opera Mini or the stock browser. I was running a vanilla ICS rom on my DHD and Chrome worked great on that.
That aside, I do find some weird jitters in the stock browser. Honestly though, it's not that bad. Usually only has a noticeable effect if I try to zoom on a page while it's still loading. Also, zooming in on plain text files (like game walkthroughs) seems to lose your place in the file, even though the text doesn't get reflowed.
