I have a rooted Galaxy S3 running stock 4.1.2. My husband recently upgraded his unrooted S3 to 4.3 and I'm super jealous of his stock email app. I tried copying the apk from his phone to mine, but it didn't work.
A few days ago I successfully updated the email app on my phone to the version from 4.4 just by renaming the old and copying the new apk to my phone and rebooting. I thought installing 4.3 would be as simple but the 4.3 version isn't working. I tried copying with and without the corresponding odex files, renaming the apk from SecEmail_J.apk to email.apk, but nothing I've tried works. When I click on the email apk in Root Explorer, I tried to install, but it says problem parsing. I copied SecEmail_J.apk, SecEmail_J.odex, SecExchange.apk, and SecExchange.odex, rebooted, no stock email app. Then I tried just the two apks, rebooted, no stock email.
Thank you for any insight you can provide to me getting 4.3 email!

I have a TW rooted version of the TF300T on build Version V10.4.2.9 , Android 4.1.1 . Recently, as i was trying to install whatsapp on tf300, i came across this a forum gizmolord that has a guide to install whatsapp on tablets without 3g sim slot. And i installed the ALL winners mod app.
This All winners mod App screwed up my build prop. (i didnt know what it was till now) and system apps such as supernote, and mylibrary stopped functioning and crashed (cannot even launch) . As i was a total noob, i tried to shift those apps out of system apps and uninstalled, them hoping to redownload the apks and reinstall them, but to no avail. However, it turned out that it was the build prop that was changed by the "All winners mod" app when i used "build prop editor" to view it.
I manage to find supernote.apk and .odex from a stock rom online and managed to reinstall supernote. I rename some of the prop file settings to ASUS/ EeePAD, then rebooted, and supernote worked fine. However, i cannot find a proper working Asusreader.apk and .odex. The one which i have still says it stopped working whenever i launched it. Also, after i managed to rename the prop file, an OTA came. I tried to update, but halfway it failed , showing a dead android. After which, i forced restarted the tf300t and it says update failed. (i already temp unroot my device)
How do i get the OTA back? And i think it might be because i removed the Mylibrary app (asusreader) which is a system app. So how do i get the My library app working again? Because i cannot find My library in a clean stock rom online. Supernote works fine. I need to update to firmware Version V10.4.2.13.
Help is apppreciated.
I want the old functionality where I could delete emails from the notification shade but also have both archive and delete buttons when looking at individual emails in the app.
Just got a new N5, unlocked and rooted, and tried renaming the system Gmail files and installing the 4.3.1 Gmail APK.
When I try to install I get message "App not installed." Tried restarting phone, same result.
Interesting - just saw that even though I renamed the Gmail files in /system/app (and the icon disappeared), Gmail is still running on the phone. It notified me of and then let me open a new incoming email.
Any way to get 4.3.1 running under KitKat?
Simply renaming an apk in system doesn't prevent it running. Android doesn't use the apk name to identify it. You must remove it completely

Do you know if there's a way to use Gmail 4.3.1 on a rooted N5 running 4.4.1?

remove/uninstall/delete gmail from your phone completely, reboot, wipe dalvik/cache, then install the gmail 4.3.1 apk. thats all you need to do.
No luck so far

I did that, but when I restarted the phone:
- the APK went to the permissions screen "no new permissions needed" and then said "not installed."
- the Gmail files are gone from the /system/app directory, but gmail still runs. Version 4.7.1
Was i supposed to delete the files from somewhere else? Is there some reason the APK is not installing?
thanks
Hi guys!
well, i'm using the 4.4.4 GPE Rom but I think Google Dialer is not as pretty as the CM11 dialer. how can I replace that?
I've tried many ways, but without success.
- download lastest nightly, extracted Dialer.apk
method 1: isntalled as regular app.
method 2: put the apk in /system/app, rebooted, changed permissions, rebooted again.
I have Android 7.0 on my Note 5. I'm trying to install an older version of Gmail (I have the Unknown Sources thing already turned on) . I have tried downloading the APK files from various sites, but every time I click "install" it always says it can't install the file because it's corrupt.
I've had a few updates since getting the Note (it's been about a year now since I got it from AT&T) and I think one of those updates may be what's causing it to stop installing the APKs. Obviously other changes have been made under the hood, but it has to be the OS because I could install APKs when I first got the phone (back when it had Marshmallow on it).
I've tried wiping the cache and even doing a factory reset and it still won't install the APK file. I've tried several APK files and I keep getting the same response; App not installed. The package appears to be corrupt.
What's really odd is yesterday I was reading an article and it mentioned installing a APK for Google Now integration with Nova Launcher. I thought what the heck and downloaded the APK. It installed without any problems. I got this APK from the same place (APKMirror) I was getting the older APK versions of Gmail. I wonder why this one worked and the Gmail ones didn't?
If anyone could help me out I would appreciate it.
Thanks.
I managed to install an older version of ES File Explorer this morning. I got it from the APKMirror webite. Unfortunately, none of the Gmail APKs will work. Obviously I can still install APK files, so I'm going to have to search around on some other sites and see if I can find a good one for Gmail.
I was deleting Bloatware (without root with adb commands) and I deleted my Galaxy Apps Store on my Samsung. Now, I need it for some reason and it isn't installing. I installed ZArchiver and went to /system/priv-app/GalaxyApps_OPEN/GalaxyApps_OPEN.apk
I tried to install the APK but it isn't installing. I tried to install APK from APK mirror and even it isn't I installing. I tried older APK from my old Samsung and it doesn't install.
i know that a factor reset can undo everything but I don't wish to start up fresh again as I have customised my Galaxy M31 a lot.
so, if anyone knows any other way of installing that again please tell. I will be really thankful to you.
