Xoom screen failes to respond - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My wifi Xoom occasionally loses touch response and their is no way to reboot or shut down, forcing me to lay it upside down with something on top of the power button to drain the battery. This has become more common. Currently on EOS4 on BP but has occurred on EOS4 without BP and I believe on dream's ROM months back.
Any help is appreciated, currently on vacation out of the country and can really use my Xoom.

[Q] Xoom Won't turn on

New to the forum. Love you guys' work. Been a follower since the G1 days. I got the xoom on Thursday (like a lot of you) and have loved it, until last night. My battery was going low (20% or so) and I used it for about 10 more minutes when the whole thing just shot off. I'm not sure what happened. I tried to charge it and nothing happened. If it was my G1 or Nexus, I would have just pulled the cover off and taken the battery out and rebooted, not so easy on the xoom. I think I might have to take it back, but anyone have any ideas as to how I can get it working again?
exact same thing happened to me, I pressed and held volume up and power and it booted up.

Same problem. Same fix
I just had this happen to me today, so as of March 11 its still an issue. The system appeared to be locked in sleep mode and no amount of pressing or holding the power (or any other) button wakes it up. The little light top right just keeps flashing slowly. It wasn't on a low battery either. lets hope all the other users are savvy enough to search for the answer online. I found it here on xda forum in another thread - hold down power button and volume at the same time. Which interestingly is a trick i wouldn't find in the manual, and i couldnt find an explanation for the blinking light in the manual or PDF guide either. There will be some very very worried xoom owners around until this is fixed.
My xoom does not respond to my touch, so everything seems still alive, and when I hold on the power button it does ask me if I want to turn it off, but since it does not respond to my click, I cannot reboot the system. Same trick as above solved the problem.
More information would be helpful.
1. Does this happened before or after the update.
2. Rooted, modified in any way etc etc...
AFAIK Mine still working fine. I haven't done anything to mine, so is still pretty stock.
At least there's a way to deal with this.
So this just happened to my wifi Xoom. Except the forced reboot method (volume up + power) doesn't get any response. Any quick ideas before I go exchange this at Costco?
edit: This is a completely stock Xoom.

Thanks this fixed mine as well. It's a little unnerving that it wouldn't boot to begin with, though.
Yep had this happen on mine a couple of times now.

Thank you so much! I thought my xoom was bricked!
Yep its only happened once to me since launch day, but power + volume up did fix it. No idea why it happened, havent had any problems since though.
yeah, its a lil scary. i remember when i had it happ3n. glad its working for you.

Had my first Power lost - I think I figured out a trick :)

So I was streaming music through the browser and when I disconnected the phone from the car charger it didnt start up it looked dead, the screen was black, and the power button didnt work but........ I didnt have to take out the battery and restart, I held the volume up button and power for about 10-15 seconds and the phone restarted - like new . So, next time your phone powers off for no reason try holding the volume up and power for 15 secs before you try taking out the battery.
I think just holding the power button does it...don't think you need to hold vol-up

Yup, no need to hold the vol up button. Long press power will do it.

actually, try it while the phone is on.. It's a reboot option... which you cannot do with just the power button alone. I think that's what he experienced.
I don't get a reboot option.
Just had my first "power lost" as well. Except mine was idle, charging overnight. Tried to turn it on but no go. Long press power button only didn't work as well so I had to pull the battery. Thanks for the tip. Why does it do this? Hardware or software problem?
I'm almost sure that its software. Every new phone that omes out has bugs eapecially if u buy it near its release date.
I believe all the bugs will eventually be fixed

Alot of people, including myself, were experiencing this random shutdowns when the first batch of G2x's came out. Only solution was battery pull or exchange. I got tired of pulling the battery andi didn't want to wait for a software patch update to fix the issues so I exchanged it and my current one is fantastic.
Many theories came out regarding the spontaneous random shut downs; overheating, wifi, gps, charging, etc. although, no definite reason as to why this is happening
If you are experiencing this numerous times, you should exchange it if you have the option of doing so

I'm inclined to think it's software, I was running the stock OS for 2 weeks and didn't have a single shutdown, then I flashed eaglesblood and it's been shutting down twice a day. Probably one of the drivers???
I had a power off last night while, charging. I woke up and it was off and power button didn't do anything. I just did a battery pull. Running eagleblood 1.0.3. Also had my first reboot last night

Could be custom software. But even people with stock experienced shutdowns. There was a big thread about shutdowns in the tmobile g2x forums and most of them ran stock.
However, It seems a though this issue is resolving as there is less talking and complaining about it

I live in Northridge, Cal.
My first G2X I screweed up. I installed a p990 rom, and well you know the rest.
Exchanged for another, NO ISSUES!! Ive rooted, CWM, removed some crapware.
I use wifi at home, mixed g/n. wifi at work g, bluetooth for the helmet on the bike.
I havent experienced any random reboots.
My question is this:
COULD it be related to where these phones are shipped to?
NJ vs CA, or east coast/west coast?
Just a thought, without the caffiene in bloodstream yet...

If your thought is correct, then tmo screwed the west side lol. Nah. Im from hawaii and my first g2x was filled with reboots but my second was fine (same manufactured date). So I don't think shipping location is a factor.

[Q] Power Button Broken?

Hey guys,
I tried researching this issue but haven't come across anything with my particular problem so forgive me if I failed to find it.
I've had my transformer for about a month now with no problems whatsoever however my power button has just stopped working. I can still feel the "click" whenever I press it and everything else works just dandy however when I press it nothing happens. I can't turn on/off my screen or even power it off. To turn it on I have to either dock it or use the power cord. I've also tried to factory reset two times to no avail.
Do you guys think that it's a hardware issue or a software issue? I'm hoping with the imminent release of 3.1 it'll solve this problem so I don't have to RMA it. Is anyone else running into a similiar problem or am I just SOL?
BTW, I'm running stock with no mods.
Thanks for your time.

I've had the problem since I received it in the mail on the 15th. I thought it was the software also so I factory reset and nothing happened, then upgraded to "US_epad-user-8.2.3.13" still nothing, and now I am on the leaked 3.1 update (not rooted be the way) and it still doesn't work. So I am confident that it is a hardware problem, which sucks because I love this thing but I am going to forced to send it in to be fixed.
Edit: I hope this helps because when it happened to me no one could relate to my problem.

Damn it really does look like we're out of luck. Mine worked great up until last week then my power button just stopped working. I'm not sure how it could as it mostly just sits on my desk and occasionally put into my bag while docked for travel to work.
It looks like I'm going to have to RMA it. Hopefully Newegg doesn't charge me to ship it for a replacement. =(
wow so many hardware issues.
My issue is slightly different... I can use the power button to turn on/off the screen and shutdown. But once its shutdown, I can't turn it back on without plugging it into the power adapter.. anyone have any ideas? Was having the same issue before the 3.1 update, and still have the issue after updating.

Try setting the screen timeout to 'never'. See if that resolves it.

My issue is not waking up from sleep, its turning the unit on when its completely shutdown. For whatever reason, the power button doesnt do anything once the TF is completely shutdown
Slightly disappointed with the many various hardware problems this tablet seems to have. I mean everything else on the tablet works great. its just really annoying not being able to use the power button to turn the tablet on from sleep and having to use other means to do so.

I take it your pressing and holding the power button? I have to hold mine for about 2 seconds for it to turn on.

I got it to turn on It was most likely user error... if I hold the button for about 2 seconds and release it turns on.. previously I was holding the power button waiting for any sign of life, and got nothing. I guess with the TF the initial splash screen doesnt come up until you release the button
Woot for Newegg! Free return RMA shipping via UPS and they'll be sending me a replacement unit.
Luckily they actually have some 16GB in stock and luckily it's also within the 30 day period (whew).
BTW, I also updated to 3.1 OTA which didn't help my issue with the power button as it still doesn't do anything when I press it.

[Q] Bricked Nexus S. Faulty power button?

Hi guys.
I noticed a few weeks ago my power button started to work when it felt like it. Sometimes it would be fine, other times it would take about 30 presses before it registered I was attempting to use it..
Now it has completely failed.
The phone is currently off, whenever I try to press the power button it never turns on. But as soon as I attach a charger to it (AC and USB), without even pressing the power button, the phone vibrates and the google screen flashes up, but never gets past that screen.
If I hold the volume up button as I attach a charger it attempts to enter recovery/bootloader mode(?), but freezes as soon as it comes on. No buttons work and it requires a battery pull to turn it off.
The phone is also not recognised by my computer, or by odin, or anything.
Not really sure what to do. Would try and flash things back to stock, but can't find a way to do that. Not really sure it would help either?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance
Oh and I looked through current threads and searched on google but I couldn't find anyone with a similar problem :/
It seems, your power button is constantly pressed. Maybe you dropped it? You should try to carefully move the button in every direction instead of pressing it, hopefully it clicks back to its right place. Other option is taking it back to the shop, and get it repaired. It's a hadware problem, so you won't be able to use neither recovery nor the ROM. The bright side is, that probably it's an easily repairable problem, and won't take too long

Stock ICS has a feature to wake the screen using the vol rocker.
And you can search the market for "Lock screen widget" to shut the screen.
In this case you minimize the need for the power button..That what I was doing..

[Q] The buttons won't work.

Hi, recently, my siblings were playing with the tablet, I didn't know what happened to it, but then my brother showed it to me and the power button seems to work, but it won't turn the screen on, and the big volume button is sticky, both doesn't work, I'm guessing they spilled juice in it or something. So is there anyway to fix this?
