[Q] Hangout (version 2.0.217) Excessive Battery - General Questions and Answers

Hey everyone,
I am using Hangouts 2.0.217 on my stock LG G2 and I was wondering does anyone else see excessive battery use on their phones? It was the same on my Nexus 4 and I was wondering if it was just that phone or something. However, it seem to be taking far more battery than my stock messaging app.
Anyone have any ideas? Am I just being negative and it is actually the same I just never noticed how much battery the stock messenger takes?
Important to note I text all day and sometimes several people.

Google+ App - Poor Battery Life?

I'm just wondering if anyone's been experiencing the horrible battery life that I've been dealing with since installing the Google+ app?
My battery went from being able to go nearly 2 days with minimal use, to being under 20% after 8 hours of sitting beside me on my desk during the work day without barely even touching it (maybe sending a text or 2 during the day).
Android OS has now become the main reason for battery drain on my phone where as in the past, it's always been the Display.
Anyone else noticing this with their phone?
I've noticed it to on my Captivate. It seems like data is constantly going in and out and battery life is non-existent. Going to uninstall the app for now and hope that an update is released for it soon.
Ok...
So I wasn't just imagining things then.... I've been contemplating removing it as well, which is too bad since I've found it to be a bit useful
If you do remove it make sure to reboot the phone. I was still getting drain issues before rebooting. I'm watching it now to see if it still is draining or if it's been resolved. I'll let you know in about 30 minutes one way or the other.
I'm having the same thing on my G2x running CM7 nightlies. I'm about to uninstall this to test. Did uninstalling work for you OP?
edit: I just thought it could be related to instant upload? My wife has Google+ installed and no issues, but she's running a stock G2x. I'll disable it and test.
Stock Thunderbolt here. Don't seem to have any issues with the Google+ app.
I am also having this issue. lost over 20% over night. I have a nexus s and can normally get 3+days out of my phone. Since installing Google+ battery has not even lasted a day!!!! i have killed the service and already i am seeing massive improvements with battery.
I dont believe it is to do with instant upload as i have turned it off with no luck.
I hope google fixes this issue soon!!!!!!
I've got a Desire using the Leedroid 3.0.8 rom,
but it doesn't seem to show the mentioned issues.
I do have the instant-upload enabled and
about 70 people divided in circles with not
much activity in the updates-stream yet.
(I'm guessing it's based on push technlogy)
I uninstalled and rebooted my phone yesterday...
Curious to see if I get the battery life that I had prior to installing...
On a Captivate running CM7 Nightlies #54
Wasn't sure if the battery performance was related to CM7 or the app... So we'll see! I was getting some great battery performance when I was on #34, but did the Google+ install and the update on the same day... Haha
same here on epic 4g. uninstalled g+... problem went away. Go figure.
It's because G+ app has push notifications - any app that has that automatically starts up if closed and starts on boot.
Push notifications are a good thing, but only if you have a spare battery
OMg could i have found the cause for my POOR battery life, i cant even get a single day out the battery with my inspire 4g
I have a htc hd2 running RAFDROID HD and i been using the app for about a week now. I can say i haven't seen an increase in my battery usage while using the app. not sure what to suggest, have you tried to disable push notifications? settings/sync/google/uncheck sync google+ notifications. its set to unchecked as default.
I've noticed that Google+ is trying to instant upload all my photos for no apparent reason. They show up in G+ in Photos->Photos from your phone section, but I'd rather not have all my photos uploaded - eats out of my very limited (100mb) internet and lowers battery life. I'm not exactly sure if its only photos and videos either - need to look into it more.
Well....
I uninstalled G+ the other day to see if battery life would increase... And it did.
So I decided to do another test..
I reinstalled G+ last night, and after I took my phone off the charger this AM, I gave it a reboot. My phone's sitting at 72% right now with 8 hours of light usage... So I dunno what to say...
Maybe Google updated it? Maybe installing a different kernel helped me out? No clue...
How do you guys uninstal G+ the safest way?
Its not possible to remove without Roooting it says...

[Q] Contacts and Battery Life questions

Hello all,
This is my first android phone, (received it last week) and I'm wondering if any of you know the solution to a few questions I have
- My contacts are all organized via Live.com. So I went into the contacts app and chose to hide all other contacts (sim/tmobile/phone, et cetera) to avoid duplicates. However, this works for the contacts app only. When I use the message app or the phone, it shows many duplicates. I'll have anywhere between 2-6 duplicates of a phone number because it will be in the sim, t-mobile contacts, live.com, et cetera and the phone wants to show all of them. How do I fix this?
- Is battery life supposed to be horrible on androids? In 11.5 hours my battery was already at 30%, and I only made 3 one minute phone calls and checked email once. The rest of the time I didn't even touch the phone, it just sat there.
Battery life is not as good as other phones but you can extend it a bit by turning off unnessesary stuff like wifi or GPS. There are also battery saving apps such as juice defender and others
Which ROM are you using?

lol give me a little credit here Yeah I know I can improve the battery performance, it's just that not even touching the phone, it will drain in less than a day. I was wondering if other people had the same experience using the regular ROM, because this seems pretty bad.

I'm using the stock Sensation ROM. In fact, I haven't got my data plan to work yet so there's no email or anything that could be pushing me data.

I have the same multiple instances of contacts problem with my phone.
I'll have to edit on the computer.
Your battery life issue could be a few things:
A bad battery.
Bad hardware.
A virus or some other demon running your processor in the background [maybe trying to access the 'net?].
For the battery monitoring,I use something called BatterySupervision 1.7.5
Seems to work well and I'm quite happy with it.
Aside from getting a new battery, is there an easy way to test if it is a hardware or battery issue? My battery gets up to 44 degrees when charging and using the phone, if it makes any difference.

[Q] Battery life issue!!

I understand that many people have battery problem with nexus 5 due to the camera app running in the background with skype or other apps that uses the camera. I dont use any of these apps and recently i am barely getting 2.5hrs screen on time(SOT) where just before a couple of weeks i was getting almost 4.5-5 hrs SOT. its a huge drop. I assumed it was a rouge app that i must have downloaded that is using up the battery so i factory reset my phone and have only reinstalled several apps such as facebook and whatsapp and several others but even today i only got 2hrs and 30 mins of SOT.
The battery setting shows the android system and the screen using most of the battery. Is anyone else facing similar issue? or if you can suggest me what I can do to fix it, I will be very thankful.
ps. i am running stock rom with stock kernel (not rooted)
thanks in advance
Normally I'd suggest installing BetterBatteryStats and see what is keeping your device awake, but it could be your sync settings/frequency, radio signal strength, and etc that are the culprit.
Factory reset again and install only updates for stock apps. Leave all other 3rd party app off your phone for 24hours. Use the phone as a phone, rather than a social and gaming platform for that amount of time.
See if you get better life at that point. If so, then it's at least one or multiple apps that you need to monitor closely. Best way is to get your baseline as I suggested, and then install apps one-by-one to find the issue.

If using the device stock with only stock apps doesn't increase your battery life the problem could be hardware related too.
The first N5 which I ordered the day it launched had the battery life fall to almost half
I tried everything I could think of, flash stock, factory reset, dim brightness, disable everything, only use 3G nothing worked.
then the earpiece started to go, called google for a RMA and the new device works perfectly
with the same apps installed I'm now getting 4 - 4 1/2 hours of SOT when I was lucky to get 3 before, usually 2 1/2
Seems battery had a hardware issue as well, I had been chalking it up to software battery drain issues, but it was definately hardware in my case.
Without screen shots from gsam or something, anything but the stock battery usage section in settings.....we're all just guessing here.

Faulty Battery sells often do get into the production line and its very common as OP has no pics we cant determine weather is software or hardware related
If anything send it to Google for RMA or LG for a replacement battery

Same problem i had in the past with Nexus 5 . We cant say that it is a hardware or a software related.MIGHT BE OR MAY NOT BE.
Its better to factory reset again and install all apps one by one to find out the actual reason only updates for stock apps leave all other apps for the time being.Turn off your Bluetooth and use your phone as a phone only, for a while.

Battery issues

Hello friends first post here, just looking for some tips on the battery life. I picked up a t-mobile z3 about 4 days ago one for me and my wife. I love the phone and I'm very happy with it coming from an iPhone 5s. The battery is my only concern because for some reason after I use the phone for about 10 min screen use the top right of my phone gets really hot and my battery seems to drain really fast. My wife's phone does not get hot at all. Anyone experiencing theses issues?
Maybe some misbehaving apps, or accidental/app camera usage? Try clearing out all installed apps and reinstall one by one to find out whats going on or as a last resort do a factory data reset.

Weathebug battery drain

Does anyone here use Weathebug? I was seeing unusually high battery drain about a month ago and uninstalled. Tried it again today and same way. Anyone else experience this? Just curious if it just me.
Edit: just wanted to add that my wife uses it on her Moto X 2014 and doesn't have this problem, and I also didn't experience this on my Galaxy Note 2.
No problems here. Use the app all the time.
