[Q] Data wipe does not work, Apps are still there - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, so I have a galaxy tab 2 7.0 16gb wifi. it has many apps installed, almost 200 mb left. Then, it went into an infinite reboot, like rebooting into the home screen and a few dialogs will be displayed like "Google Play store had stopped" then it will show my lockscreen app, espier locker (or something, forgot it) then it will reboot, again and again. I tried getting it into a service center to get it repaired, but they said the power button was broken or something, but the reboots were constant, they had patterns (logo, homescreen, then few apps will stop, then lockscreen, then reboot) also, i tried data wipe and cache wipe in the stock recovery, and it says success, but everything was still in there, like nothing happened. I also can't flash CWM or any ROM into it, it says passed, but nothing happens. Also, it is out of warranty, as it was bought a year ago. What will i do now?

help please?

[Q] Force close loop with Launcher pro as default

Hello, This is my first post. I have the vanilla GTAB with the 2 updates that were automatically loaded last Dec. & Jan. I frequently get force closes. Today when I booted the gtab, I had it connected to my pc, but I clicked 'hide' at the activate usb prompt. Then the usual force close occured in Launcher pro. At the same tiime there was a prompt that said something like "which app to use for this action" 1) desktop or 2) launcher pro. Since I thought I already set this to Launcher pro, I selected Launcher pro, and (this is the important part, I think) I checked the box to make this the default action. I had done this before so I didn't give much thought to it.
Well, the device immediatel began looping between to 'force closes' that look similar: 1) The application LancherPro (process android.acore) has stopped unexpectedly. Pleas try again; and then the second half of the loop is 2) The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
Note that in #2 it doesn't refer to LauncherPro.
I rebooted the ddevice and it immediately goes into the same loop.
Is there any way out of this? I can't help thinking it is caused by making the failing app (Lpro) the default action. How do I get the prompt back? Or have I bricked this gtab?
I was able to activate usb support between loops, so I have backed up all my data to my pc (whew!), but I can't get the device to do anything on it's own, other than loop. I do not have a recovery file or any of the suggested clock??? utilies. This is a completely vanilla device. Therefore booting with recovery (power + vol +) just comes up and enters the same loop.
Sorry if this is long winded, but I want to hear any advice before I follow Viewsonic cust support's instructions to ship it to them for a hardware reset. TIA, -Jim
Try Fix Permission in the Recovery. I face this problem every now and then and could not find a better permanent solution . Its really painful at times. It usually happens when my Gtab awakes from a long sleep (like remaining in standby for overnight).
I just experienced the same problem the other day. It is my third time with all the loops and force close and android.process.etc.etc. Unfortunately the GTab with the stock OS has this troublesome issue. I followed the instructions to install clockworkmod (CM) restore to stock with the 3389 mods, and now when it happens I boot into CM and first try and clear the cash and if that dosen't fix the problem then I do the wipe data/ factory reset option which is a pain, but if you have backed up everything you are back up and running with everything restored in less than 15 minutes. Do a quick search and you will find the CM solution to get your tablet back.
Hope this helps! I think everyone who has this device has gone through it. I guess for the price what can you expect, $799 for a XOOM without flash or $350 for the Gtab with flash and some issues. There is always a trade off.
Thanks VERY MUCH for the replies. So minardml, it seems you have done the factory reset yourself. Is there instructions for this online? You took the back off the unit to do it? I will search for the CM solution. Also, kshwetabh, you are right it had been several days since I used the gtab. Could you explain how to "try fix permission in the recovery?"

@newbieJim, before wiping cache or factory resetting try Fixing permission option. It always works for me.
1. Reboot system into Recovery (Shutdown. Press and hold Volume Up(+) button and press Power button.
2. Select "advanced" ( scroll the options using Volume up/down button). Press Home button when on "advanced" option
3. Select "Fix Permissions".
This will take a while (depending on the packages/apps installed). Note that you will not see any progress bar. Once complete simply reboot.
Hope this helps . I don't know how the system looses permissions but somehow it does.

Sorry if I led you to think that I took the back off as I did not do that. The options that I was refering to are in the menu of clockworkmod. If you haven't found the fix I was talking about (installing CM) post again and when I get home later today I will see if I can find it. I think I may have bookmarked it on my laptop.
I just keep the home button prompt on. it seems to prevent 90% of FCs and also improved the screen lag i was getting.
it may be another step, but it's less of a pain the the ass in the end.
Once again thx to all. I will attemp recovery again, but I don't have high hopes because, as I said, the loop happens even in recovery (or safe) mode. IOW, I cannot get to any menu or screen.... Only the loop. I do not think I can install any new app., but I will try tomorrow when I return.

[Q] Bootloop on stock 3.2

Is there any way out? TF boots, flashes locked screen for a second and reboots.
I can shut it down with holding Power+Volume Up for 10 sec, I tried to "cold boot" it with Power+Volume Down but no luck, it just goes into the loop again. Maybe I've done it wrong when there were two shapes on the screen - "Wipe data" and "Anrdoid", volume down seem to toggle them. I think I tried both.
Will this "Wipe data" lose ALL my downloaded apps etc? Will I have to reenter a million of passwords again?
Wifi sometimes shows "No internet connection", sometimes "SMC" - my home network, the icon is gray with occasional little symbols on it, too.
I tried turning the router off and starting TF with wifi tether on my phone and it should remember the settings but it just shows "No internet connection" and reboots.
I took the microSD out, too.
I once saw an Anrdoid Robot with a big orange exclamation mark but it didn't do anything for a while so I just shut it down again. Should I wait a bit longer? I can't find the combination that got me into that screen again, too.
It doesn't actually reboot per se, it shows the "Asus, perpetual perfection" with a running gear screen.
All other threads about boot loop here are about rooted Transformers, not surprisingly, and the solution is to flash a better Rom or to do it properly.
What about unrooted device? What is the proper way to recover the tablet?
Had to wipe in the end.
Yesterday it happened again, so I wiped it again.
This time I rooted and installed Titanium Backup, at least recovering will be easier.
So I guess that is the answer.
Pure, "one-click" root, as per
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198303
still keeps OTAs coming in case Asus figures the solution

Phone Freezing and Won't Start Properly

Hi all,
I recently tried changing the wallpaper on my phone from a live background to regular image. The background went black and the phone froze.
I removed the battery and restarted the phone but it now often freezes on the LG logo. When it does occasionally start up the touch screen will not respond so I cannot get past my lock pattern. If I press the stand by button at the top of the phone, the screen goes off and cannot be turned on again, but the phone is still running - as I can tell this when connected to the computer.
I don't have my phone rooted and do not know much about that. I was hoping there was a way to fix this without having to lose all of my data or root/mod my phone. Otherwise I would be happy just to have my phone working.
Can anyone please help with this problem or tell me why the touch screen will not respond the times it does start up?
Cheers
UPDATE - I started the phone holding the volume button down and went into the recovery mode. I'm not sure exactly which option I then selected, as I hit the home key a couple of times, but I think it was "Clear cache and recovery" or something similar.
The phone managed to start back up with all my apps and photos, etc. Although I had to go through the startup wizard again and sign into the Market, LG World, etc.
Now I have a problem with quite a few of my apps. Whenever I click on them, they start very briefly and then I get the message "The application had stopped unexpectedly. Please try again" and have to force close. This happens with apps such as Adobe Reader, GTA 3 and Viber, so it's not a specific type of app.
I also noticed with the few apps that work, data is missing from some and not others. For example, I still have high scores in one game, but not in another.
Does anyone know what the problem is here or why this recovery is maybe causing this?
Thanks very much
Still haven't fixed this problem if anyone could please help. Most of the apps before the recovery still force close upon starting.
Some of these can be fixed temporarily by moving to phone/SD depending on location, but this only lasts for so long, before I have to move again. Others will open up each time as though it's the first opening of the app, e.g. Do you accept....
Apps downloaded after the recovery seem to work fine.
Any suggestions people?

What ROM are you using?
If you want to manually shut down the tablet, press power and volume up while plugged into a power source. It shouldn't power back on.

I am experiencing the same problem with reboot. I updated Tab 2 (PS5113) to 4.2.2 rom through the automatic update via WIFI (on Aug 30,2013). When you turn off normally, the screen shuts down (glows for about 15 sec before full black) then turns back on. Generally the second time I turn it off (in a row) it will turn fully off. I have tried turning off with or w/o connection to WIFI, and tried turning off all programs through applications manager (as well as clearing ram) first. One suggestion was to clear cache partition (hold down power on and volume down button) but this resulted in a quick error message (android logo lying down with X through it), so I am not sure that the cache was cleared. Since I never tried to clear cache before upgrade, I don't know if it is an isue with this upgrade.
Thanks in advance for any help.
It seems as though the OTA update was installed incorrectly. Perhaps a file is corrupt or you have an app installed that is causing an issue with the shutdown process. Is your install rooted? I would recommend either performing a factory restore, or re-flash your devices firmware with ODIN (Use with caution!) Either way, please post your intentions. Have you tried anything other than clearing your cache? Did you recently install an application? Let me know
Best of luck,

In the morning, I have experienced the same thing, I use the cm-10.1.3-RC2-p5110.zip
I had to shut down twice.
Rebooting
My device is not rooted (purchased in March). The update was through the Samsung notification - automatic (except for saying proceed). The update went smoothly - no error messages. However, after update, the Nook app would not open so I uninstalled the original and reinstalled through Google Play. In addition, the home page was changed, Samsung putting back on the Media Hub and removing all of my personal folders - icons (very irritating). The standard weather app and calendar widgets were larger than original after update (pushing the calendar off into page 2), so I removed and added the G0 Weather app (I have since removed it to see if the Tab will shut off - it still needs 2 shut downs. As I mentioned before, after the first shut down, the tablet keeps a slight glow for about 20 sec., then goes black, then immediately restarts (as if during the glow something is happening??). On 2nd shutdown, glow is for 5 sec. then off complete.
I prefer not to root (yet) but am uncertain how to proceed with factory restore if I have updated through Samsung. Might it not just reload a faulty OS? As I mentioned, wiping the cache did not seem to work.
Thanks again.

"UIDs on the sytem are inconsistent" error message + deleted data partition

Hey,
yesterday i faced a problem i didn't knew of yet. As i mentioned sometimes, i came from an One M7 2 weeks ago as it didn't work the way it should - camera useless and awful battery life. I rooted the M7, had problems with it and so on - just how it is with a rooted phone + custom roms.
However, due to the DRM i didn't root my Z3 yet. Yesterday i took it out my pocket, thought it was a bit warm.. nevermind. It worked. 30 minutes later i pulled it out again, still warm, and screen wouldn't turn on. I reset it (power and vol+ for those who didn't know), tried to boot again.. well, it took several minutes and finally showed me the attached error message. The system performance was really, really low. Everything stuttered, i couldn't even enter my pin. A few forced reboots later i could finally enter my pin and get into my system only to notice that my data partition wasn't doing fine. I had to set language and so on in the initial setup process, apps kept force-closing in seconds. My own apps were still on the device, however when i tried to open WhatsApp there was no data there, i should have gone through the registration process. The phone froze after seconds each time. I tried to enter the fastboot menu (is it called that way?) while booting to just do a factory reset, didn't find the button combination. So finally, after i found home without navigation from no man's land (sure, why doesn't it happen at home anyway..), i managed to boot it, get through settings and initiate a factory reset. Of course, all the apps were deleted then and i could install all apps like LightFlow again. Had to re-enter all the settings i did in those kind of apps, it was kind of annoying.
So, my questions: Why the hell did this happen to my Z3? Not rooted, didn't even think of it. There wasn't a day on the One M7 without flashing anything and it never happened. It wouldn't have been as bad as it was on the Z3, as i HAD root, could have wiped data in TWRP in a matter of seconds and also had backups of my data, which i of course didn't have for my unrooted Z3.
Is it likely to happen again? Can any app do this on a non-rooted phone? I read a bit about the error, that it would be caused by some apps, but not in the extent as it happened on my phone. Most of the times it would just be an annoying error message.
I got a thing in always getting a defective unit, so i hope it isn't happening again on the Z3
Maybe the internal flash is corrupted/failing. I had a similar issue with my HTC One X I went to nap one day and half hour later it shut down, it restarted but boot looped. Eventually it showed no data partition as being mounted and completely died. They replaced the motherboard.
Better contact Sony, maybe you need a replacement.
Mh, actually that's the least thing i want to do.. I'd have to wait for at least 2 weeks to get it back and chances are that they won't do a thing or damage it (bad experiences with my former Razr i). It works just fine after the factory reset, no errors yet. If it should happen again, i'd of course send it in for repair but i think, until then i will use it normally, with more caution and backups of course.
Probably the cleanest solution HERE
