ROM recommendations? Replacing viper s 3.1.4 - HTC Sensation

Hey folks,
Lately viperS has been experiencing random shutdowns on my sensation xe. Some threads claim it to be due to SebastienFM kernel. I don't like pointing fingers, but it has come to a point where it's annoying me big time. It only happened a while after updating to 3.1.4 through OTA. 3.1.2 did not have that problem.
Now, a while back I got myself a new been nexus 7 and I rally dig that stock android shell. Makes the HTC shell look slow and bulky.
I checked out cwm but they stopped at 9. How are those unofficial ones.
So i want some recommendations. I have a few requirements.
*android as up to date as possible (my nexus 7 is on 4.4.2)
*as smooth as possible with the sensation XE's limited ram
*stock android ui? I don't mind losing HTC widgets, there's always alternatives.
*USB host support (may require newer firmware, see specs below) is mandatory with read/write permission? My nexus 7 can only read for some reason.
*maintained by OTA updates?
*has to be compatible with EU cellphone frequencies as I want to be able to keep sending calls and texts.
Device:
HTC sensation xe, hboot 1.29, s-OFF, twrp recovery 2.6.3.0(can swap to 4ext if needed.)
So what can the community recommend me?

Sorry, didn't know where to post it as there is no specific section for my device. Only the standard and xl version. Can any mid then please move this topic?

XE and 4g are the same as the original sensation...
But you can try Viper 5.0 if you prefer Sense or if you like experimenting and stock android i'll go for a 4.4.2 rom like Carbon or CyanogenMod 11

Moved to Q&A as this is a question. Thread closed as it is a question about the best ROM, which isn't allowed. Try the ROMs yourself and see what fits your requirements

[Q] Very VERY new to all this

Okay, here we go.. i recently bought my Sensation XE and am very pleased with the phone.
But there are som changes i would really love..
And here is my question: What ROM should i use?
I have been looking around alot and i am honestly very confused by all the different posts and statements of people so i decided to make my own post instead.
My phone is rooted and i have ClockworkMod Recovery. That's as far as i have come. What now?
Here are some of my specs from my HBOOT screen (i think it is the HBOOT) in case it can be of any use:
-Revolutionary-
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.17.1111
RADIO-10.14.9035.02_2
eMMC-boot
Jun 2 2011,22:31:39
I would like to test out a new ROM.
Does my Radio have to be updated ?
I have read alot about this CyanogenMod but have no clue as to which version to go for.
CM 7.2 RC1? (Edit: Hmm, Seems that this hasn't been released yet? or?)
CM 7.1 RC3? (Edit: Hmm, Is this the one i should go for? in case it is. can i have a direct download link since I don't have a clue)
or even another ROM. no clue.. help?
In advance, Thanks alot to everyone who will drop their 2 cents.
Edit: This "RUU" - Like this: "RUU_Pyramid_LE_HTC_Europe_1.73.401.2_Radio_10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2_release_215830_signed.exe 385.11 MB 2 months ago"
Is that the original ROM from the carriers? or what? geez.. this is a jungle :I
If you are sense lover then use energy sense3.5 or elangsia rom

First of all, welcome to the sensation forums!!!
This device will not disappoint you :]
In these forums you'll find 100s of great developers who are willing to help you in any way they can
Now my recommendations for a rom would be the Virtuous 3.0.0 rom. This is basically a rom that is stripped out of the sense interface and replaced with a really great AOSP feel. This rom is exceedingly fast and as far as I can tell, has no bugs whatsoever. Another reason why I love this rom is because of the amount of free ram that I have...First I received my sensation and it only had 100mb ram free, with nothing open. But in this rom you get over 300mb of free ram that you can decide what to do with!!!
Good luck with your new phone.
Have a good day!
Go through the following thread. It will be worth looking.

One thing that you need to learn is to make suer you get the right ROM for your phone. You can't just download any ROm and put it on your phone. Not even a ROM that is available for your phone. It has to be a ROM that is available for your phone and the version that is made specifically for your phone.
If you are looking at CM 7.2 RC you aren't looking at Sensation ROMs.
Cyanogen never made a release candidate of version 7 for the Sensation. There is an Alpha version of it (meaning it's got bugs and not everything works right) but not a RC, or release candidate.
If you got a CM 7.2 RC and tried to put it on the Sensation it wouldn't work, and could make things very bad.
Now, when CM has a stable build it's awesome. It gives you one of teh most controllable ROM's out there, with access to just about every possible setting you can think of, plus several special features that simply aren't available on a stock ROM.
There is a CyanogenMod 9 in the works now, but there's no release date yet. The main difference is that it's based off the newest version of Android.
Since you're new, just flash gingerbread roms to start with... I know its kinda hard to browse for it because of the ICS roms... You should be able to find those gingerbread roms under the same thread with the ics...

Thanks all for the good answers. It's seems i should try to stick to gingerbread ROM's for now.
So now my question is: If you can advise any other ROM's?
Pro's?
Con's?
There are these two suggestions / Advises so far.

I use insertcoin 3.4.4... Pretty stable and no problem... One thing, you can't forward mms, it will save it in draft and you can send it from there... I don't send mms that much anyway so it works for me...
Once you get use to flashing roms, youll be fine flashing ics roms... Just a bit difference because of the firmware ...
You're welcome... Be careful and read every detail.... Always match the md5 sum or sha1 sum for the files, if given... You'll be able to.find md5 checker a lot in the web for free

[Q] some questions new sensation :)

hi guys, I come from an hd2....so I know cwm, android and the process of flashing...
but I have some questions...
are the 4.0.3 roms stable? have you got any suggestion for a good rom?
when I flash ICS from GB have to full wipe? I know that if I don't wipe the data/factory reset keep my personal data, but ICS is a big update...if I don't wipe my data will be lost? or the rom could not run the previous apps and read my data? maybe they are in a different folder in GB...or ICS...
doing the s-off, cwm and root my warranty expires...can I restore the phone like new without risks of bricking?....the procedure of s-on is really dangerous or is just for the disclaimer?
thx in advance. you guys are awesome

4.0.3 roms are stable, especially now that the devs are using base 3.32. 3.32 will be the official ICS update for the Sensation so you can count on it for daily use

Generally if you're coming from GB or coming from other devs roms, a superwipe is recommended to avoid headaches. You can use apps to backup SMS/Call log and Apps+data. For apps+data, I recommend using Titanium Backup.

Based from what I've read, yes, S-ONing is dangerous and a couple of people have bricked their Sensations because they haven't followed instructions properly so there is an inherent danger doing it. (I haven't done it myself)
+ 1 to all the above!
And as far as roms go, it depends what you want:
*there is an 'official' HTC ICS build out there, if you want to keep relatively similar to stock sense then that is the one for you
*Virtuous Inquisition is the best AOSP (vanilla ICS) rom I've tried, it's not quite perfect yet (only a few minor niggles like the lockscreen music widget not showing up or not displaying the correct track, minor, but still slightly annoying) but is definitely stable enough for daily use, and is damn slick!
*my own personal choice and the rom I've been using for a while now is Darkforest 5.5.0 coupled with Nova Launcher from the market, it's now sort of a hybrid of Sense and vanilla ICS. Using the Nova Launcher means I can't use the HTC widgets (that I really like) but it does have a boatload more customisation options than plain old Sense.
Hope this helps at all

Hboot= bootloader. Messing around with it can brick your device , if you don't know what you are doing. There are firmware upgrade files that include hboot+radio and are needed for some roms to boot.
Supercid is needed only if you are messing with firmware upgrades and ruus. That has to do with regions.
4ext is a recovery fully compatible with cwm. It just has a nicer ui.

OK, I recently flashed a HD2 for a friend so I know where you are coming from:
1) Do super CID, it is an easy process, with no risk , it does not break your warranty, and it will save you problems (soon you'll update to ICS and it is better to be super CID).
2) I did S-on myself after being S-Off to return my phone for the dust in screen issue. The process is fairly straightforward and if you follow instructions correctly there is no risk. The risk of bricking exists if you do things without FULLY reading all instructions.
3) No need to mess around with system partitions etc. Sensation is a phone that has plenty of space for current ROM's and apps so the flashing process is much simpler than with HD2. Just use your favorite recovery, wipe, and flash... as simple as that (of course, I am talking about GB, to upgrade to ICS the process is different).
4) I suggest you use 4ext, as you say, some dev use it because it gives you the option to make selections during the flashing process.
ok thank you all....
there are so many roms, but....I can't find what i'm searching...
I want try 3 type roms:
-an ics galaxy nexus
-a sense 3.5 without any....UI customizations, bootscreen ecc, I have flashed 5 minutes ago a 3.5 with transparency, custom icons and other features I don't like....so, I want a stock like rom
-an ics 3.6 sense stock like....
how I switch from cwm to 4ext?

Just to clear it up, Virtuous Inquistion is not a true AOSP ROM. It's just a sense-based ROM themed/modified to match ICS

True, but it does a pretty good job of it, the only things of Sense they have left in are things that either didn't work from AOSP, or things that were better than the AOSP counterparts. Off the top of my head I think all I noticed was the camera, there may have been more underneath the operating system I wouldn't have noticed without looking, but it's still as close as you'll get to vanilla ICS on a Sensation at the moment

Thanks for the response. Is Mikhei777 sense 4.1 retains it's original 4.1 looks? I have tried Elegancia ROMs but it seems like it's fully themed and integrated all those special tweaks. Yes, Elegancia has the original-look ROM but still, it's fully tweaked. I was hoping it was like ARHD ROM. Sorry, I am not against themed ROM, but I think not that very obvious.

So.... did you try any of the ones that were recommended? I am really looking for a good 4.1 Rom. I bought a sensation from a friend and it came with Cyanogenmod (10.1 I think )... way too laggy, stuff kept shutting down, took forever to go back to the homescreen when pressing HOME... so I tried one called SuperXE... supposed to be super basic, and it is... maybe a bit too basic... it did improve performance a lot compared to CM but still feel the phone should run better. I came from a stock Gingerbread Inspire 4G (with bloatware and all)... and the sensation seems way slower in comparison. I've been considering going to ICS on ARHD, reading tutorials and how to do it but to be honest I'm 1)too much of a noob to tell if that can be done without any problems since I'm already on jellybean 2)afraid I might brick the phone.

flashing a rom won't brick your device
just put the rom.zip in your sdcard and flash it from recovery
and before flashing a rom
1)make a nandroid backup just in case
2)full wipe from recovery

HTC One S 4.2.2/Sense 5 Question

I'm kind of a newbie, I just know how to flash roms and what not. Are there currently any roms for the One S that have the look of Sense 5 preferably Android 4.2.2. I have found some but there are way too many bugs. I am big wifi tether user, so I need that and camera to definitely work. Also, what is the newest (stable) rom for the One S?

No Sense based 4.2.2 because we haven't got the kernel for that working yet. All Sense 5 ROMs have no working Bluetooth or Wi-Fi tether. I wouldn't consider any third party ROM on here as "stable". Closest thing would probably be CyanogenMod 10.1.

MIUI v5

I'm wanting to port an MIUI V5 ROM to the MT4GS. Right now I'm using the HTC Sensation version. The available HTC devices for the MIUI V5 ROM show:
HTC Sensation 4G
HTC Sensation XE
HTC Evo 3D (GSM)
http://en.miui.com/thread-2651-1-1.html
As this is the first time that I am attempting to port a ROM I'm definitely going through learning pains.
I figured the HTC Sensation 4G would be the best ROM to use to port, Anyone think otherwise?
Also I'm trying to find a good JB 4.1.2 AOSP/CM base. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I was hoping to use this one by kornyone:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1972273&highlight=4+1+2
However, the direct download links are no longer available and was hoping to find a stable base.
Also, I've got it to show the boot animation, however, I think because the resolutions are different on the Sensation than they are the MT4GS it is displaying offsync. How does one resolve ports if the devices have different resolutions? Still new at all this.
Any help would be grateful. Tried searching forums, and haven't found anything recently but will keep trying.
Thanks.

So using a JB4.2.2 base and porting from the HTC Sensation MIUIv5.
Has some initial issues with the updater-script but worked through it. Now got as far as the MIUI logo showing during the boot process....
And now that's where I'm at. So now I'm diving into using apktool to mod the framework to minimize the differences. I love technology and a while back programmed using a scripting language but at this point I'm thinking I'm either in over my head or this is where the fun begins!
In choosing the HTC Sensation I found that from the MIUIv5 device list, this was probably the closest match to the MT4GS.
Out of the HTC devices out there is there a better device to port to MT4GS than the HTC Sensation?
When a device is stuck during boot process. Would I be able to reboot into recovery, mount the USB storage device and navigate somewhere that would give me logs as to why it's not booting all the way?
Still new, so if I missed something obvious, definitely let me know.
Thanks.

You can't port miui v5 from sensation on top of cm 10.1 . Sensation and Evo 3D are all on 4.1.2 you can't port a 4.1 ROM on top of a 4.2 rom

:cyclops:
Doh!! For some reason I thought it was a 4.2 ROM. Now looking back at it again it even has 4.1 at the end of the filename for the HTC Sensation ROM..

Thanks for saving myself further time heading down the wrong path. 'Should have caught that before' :silly:
Back to the drawing board, hopefully with better results.
Thanks

I just went to the http://miuiandroid.com/ website to check it out.. I saw a link to preorder Xiaomi MI3 which goes on sale in October. It had US price of $499... I know Hugo Barra, just went over to Xiaomi, but I can't find anywhere on the web that it says it will work on any US network. I it had GSM and the same frequencies that AT&T T-Mobile use.
Does anyone know if the MI3 will work on any of the US Networks?
